This is a great and inspirational read. This is a great read for those who like romance stories but don’t need the heat. There are some slow moments and sometimes it comes across preachy. But at the end of the day it is a good book. One that. I have recommended to my aunts to read.

Ms. Simmons has introduced us to a new family, The Knicely sisters and their Aunt Tweet. My Rock was an easy ready. Every family has their share of problems, but only a select group have to deal with being a caregiver to a sick family member. In My Rock, we meet Tabitha, Rachel, and Kym Knicely. They are the only living relatives of Aunt Tweet. They have made a pack to take care of their aunt. They have set up a 6 month schedule for her. No one knows how much goes into being a caregiver until they are actually doing the job. Tabitha loves her aunt with all of her heart, but she is not sure if she enough for Aunt Tweet. That is alright, because God sends a ram in the bush when Tabitha is not even looking. That ram's name is Marcus Whittington. Meet Tabitha and Aunt Tweet in St. Louis. You will experience a range of emotions. Everyone needs a ram named Marcus in their life.

My Rock: Tabitha by Pat Simmons is a Christian contemporary read surrounding love, God and Alzheimer's. It is the first book in the Caregivers series.
Alzheimer's is a cruel disease, robbing us of our loved ones bit by bit. Occasionally we glimpse the person they once were but Alzheimer's "is hard to watch." We grieve for what we have lost even though physically the person is still there.
My Rock: Tabitha is an emotional read. The three sisters have a pact to care for their aunt. It is too much for one person to shoulder. The sisters give "not out of a sense of duty, but... of... enduring love." Many memories were formed in the past as the sisters all had a close bond with their aunt. Her mind may be failing but the love remains.
The novel also deals with the subject of black inequality. Years ago education was segregated. Black women fought for equality alongside men. It is sad to see the decline in the health of a pioneer.
God calls each and every one of us. He does not want our left-over's. He does not want just part of us. He wants our all. " 'What more do You want from me?'... 'You. I want you.' "
We all need a network of support when we are caregivers. We need empathy and someone to look out for us or we will pour ourselves out and there will be no one to fill us up."
In spite of the subject matter My Rock: Tabitha is not a gloomy read. There were some very light hearted moments. It is a powerful read that will play with your emotions and tug at your heart. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the subsequent books.
I received this book for free from Net Galley. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Excellent story. Author is known for her characterizations and did not disappoint with this story.

My Rock: Tabitha by Pat Simmons is for fans of contemporary Christian romance that echoes real-world dilemmas and for fans of contemporary fiction with a cast of characters who represent an array of messy people whose personalities don't conform to typical mainstream stereotypes.

References to evangelical elements like hearing the voice of God and speaking in tongues shouldn't prevent readers from enjoying this thoughtful story about coping with Alzheimer's.

[minor proofing incorrect/correct oversights: pg.44 During the chat she mention/mentioned their aunt... pg.48 He boasted a feign/feigned puppy-dog expression. pg.50 ...and reached for two bottled waters that was/were kept stocked in there. A few other similar oversights, too, that should get straightened out in the final draft.]

This is a very sweet and inspirational story for readers who want the romance without the heat. Even if Christian fiction is not your usual cup of tea, this is a pretty good read. A bit slow and moralistic in spots, it's still has all the classic ingredients to satisfy any romance junkie's heart.
