Zen teachings from one of the great Zen text of all times. Although this is not an easy read, you may have to really take your time reading these teachings to truly grasp what's being said. I find myself going back and rereading more than once to further my understanding. If you are looking to deepen your understanding of Zen and Dogens teachings, this is a great read.

A heady philosophical exploration of the concepts of being and time in context with Buddhist principles. It isn't meant to be easily digested and Shinshu Roberts expects readers to take the journey slowly in order to really gain from the experience of the exploration. I'm really enjoying the book as a prompt for meditation and contemplation of that difficult attachment to the moment, the self and the general outcome of my (and others) efforts in life. I recommend this book highly if you enjoy taking heady reads slowly and taking time to digest sections of what you're reading.

Take your time and savor this book. It's a dense book of instruction and philosophy that can't be rushed through. Once a week, I read bits of this book, then I mull them over, and come back to find what I missed during the first read through before moving on to the next week's reading. I'm hoping to find others to read this with me, for extra insight into the text.. In the meantime, just the act of reading this book has become its own practice.
