This is a very good Suspense novel by author Shalini Boland, the first book I have read by her but now someone that I will read more of.
A new mother named Kirstie is awaken when she hears a man on her baby monitor saying "let's take the baby and go". Kirstie quickly goes to her baby Daisy relieved to find her safely asleep. She calls the Police and checks are made but Daisy is the only baby in the street. Kirstie is still not happy and this begins weeks of anxiety, nobody believes her and even her husband thinks she needs medical help.
This is fast paced making it so difficult to put down.
I would like to thank both Net Galley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

What a book! I predict this book will be one of the top reads for 2018. Kirsten is married to Dominic and they have baby Daisy. She hears voices a male voice coming from the baby monitor suggesting that her baby is going to be kidnapped. Baby Daisy is found safe, so who was the voice and where did it come from??? Kirsten is fearful for her baby's safety and she slowly begins to unwind trying to protect her. All of the residents of their peaceful cul-de-sac seem to have secrets. This is definitely a page-turner with a surprise ending I did not see coming. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller.

Wow! This book was intense from the start right through to the end. Very cleverly written the ending blew me away, I had no idea. All through the book I had an idea in my head but I was so wrong!

A few words that spring to mind when I think about this book are shocking, mind blowing, creepy and intense.

The Child Next Door is the sort of book that you can't put down, you get sucked into the characters lives and you just have to keep reading to discover what is going to happen next. It really is unputdownable!

Reading a book like this really makes you wonder what's going on in your own street, will I be eyeing up my neighbours with suspicion in the future. You never know what is going on behind closed doors.

I loved this book, I lapped up every page, it definitely deserves 5 stars. It's a cracking read that I highly recommend.

Why am I now only just reading this authors books!

Ashamedly, I haven't read any of this author's books but I really liked the sound of it and with it mentioning a brilliant twist, well I was well and truly sold. I picked it up one evening and BOOM, my whole evening just disappeared! I was so wrapped up in the story that before I knew it, hours had passed and I had turned the last page.

The story starts off with Kirstie overhearing a man's voice on her baby monitor. Now obviously it is every mothers worst nightmare anything happening to their precious child. This event leaves Kirstie understandably on edge. I'm not usually a big lover of characters that seem to be losing it and are unreliable, it's been done numerous times. With Kirstie though, you are very much with her every step of the way as without a doubt she has every reason to be concerned. Kirstie begins to doubt everyone.

Kirstie and her husband Dom leave in a small cul de sac. Her best friend lives in one house and there are an assortment of couples, families in the others and then of course there is Martin. Martin is your typical nosy neighbour that seems to know everyones business and is like the neighbourhood police. He is without a doubt a bit of a weirdo and I could totally understand why Kirstie would have concerns about him.

There is literally so many twists and turns towards the end. It was brilliant. I loved every minute of it. There's nothing worse when a book promises twists that you won't see coming and you see them in advance, well this author not only delivered it, she well and truly nailed it and then some!

The Child Next Door is without a doubt a page turner of a read that will have you gripped until the very last one. Brilliant book and was floored by the fabulous twists of which the last one will stay with me for a long time to come! Can not wait to read more books by the author.

I was really looking forward to this book as loved Shalini Bolands last book and I wasn’t disappointed, this author writes gripping, exciting, easy to get into it and fascinating books
( I have to mention my favourite description in the book is when Kirstie the main character looks at her ‘suitcases’ under her eyes 😃)
This book centres on a woman (Kirstie) and what happens when alone at home sbe hears a baby crying and a muffled conversation over her babies alarm.........the story then goes at an amazing pace as Kirsties life literally dissolves in front of her eyes, from all angles, it had me hooked immediately and didnt let up until the epilogue ( which I guarantee will make you gasp and shiver )
The characters are immediately made known and centred on the 6 houses and their occupants in the cul de sac where she lives, all are ‘personalities’ like or loathe!! and all are easy to ‘get to know’ and this authors talent of writing so you are involved in the story and with them all the way through is as good in this book as the last
I know ‘twists’ is a word easily used when writing a review but this book is full of them and they keep coming
LOVED this book, a great not to be missed read
10/10 5 stars

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

Kirstie hears a conversation through her baby monitor, which leads her to believe that her daughter Daisy is being taken, but Daisy is safe in her cot. Kirstie therefore calls the police, who canvas the other homes in the cul-de-sac, but there are no other babies in the street. Kirstie then spends the next few chapters locking and re-locking and checking she has locked all the doors and windows in her house and we hear about this in minute detail.

Then other unpleasant things start to occur and Kirstie decides her husband is having an affair, although the woman she believes him to be involved with changes from day to day. At about the two-thirds mark things pick up a bit plot-wise and Kirstie undergoes a personality change and becomes decisive, assertive, brave and a protector of the vulnerable.

While this was a fairly easy read, I didn’t enjoy it much. We spent the entire novel (apart from the epilogue) in Kirstie’s head and she was so unlikeable: whiney, distrustful of her husband and best friend, self-pitying, passive aggressive, just plain passive (when she wasn’t taking what she perceived as terrible risks) and not terribly believable. Her life didn’t really ring true: if you feel unsafe in your own home, wouldn’t you want to spend as much time as possible out of it? Kirstie never even went to the supermarket. Surely a teacher on maternity leave would be taking her baby to the library or a baby group or to see her grandparents or to the park.

The ending was the best part and I found the conclusion satisfactory, although the epilogue was at once a bit much and not enough. On a minor note, who buys steroids from a neighbour and parks in their drive, before moving his car the few metres home? No one, that’s who.

Shalini Boland has done it again.. absolutely loved this, easily ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️from me for this book that shocked me right up to the last page!

Kirstie is a new mum to baby Daisy. One day whilst at home on maternity leave she hears a man on the baby monitor saying "let's take the baby and go". Running up to Daisy's room she finds her fast asleep and safe, nobody else is in the house. The police are called and check with all the neighbours but Daisy is the only baby in the street. This begins weeks of anxiety of the new mum and nobody believes her, even her husband thinks she has gone mad. What is happening and who can she trust?

A great, fast read that you will not want to put down. Real characters that have you pulling for them. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book to read and enjoy in exchange for my honest opinions

Absolutely brilliant as are all of Shalini Boland's books! Kirstie wakes hearing a voice on her baby monitor suggesting what sounds like a kidnapping!! She races to her babies room but Daisy is safely tucked up in her cot! Things start spiralling out of control! Is Kirstie losing her mind? Is her husband, her neighbours and her best friend all they seem?? I read this one in a day!! Can't wait for her next one. Thanks a million Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book. Highly recommend it.

OMG. What a phenomenal book! Shalini Boland is a masterful story teller. I read this book in 24 hours because I could not put it down. Kirstie Rawlings is the mother of an infant. She wakes up to a baby crying and runs upstairs to check on her baby. She hears a male voice on the monitor saying "let's take the child and go". Thus starts her waking nightmare. Things keep happening, She begins to doubt her sanity, her friends and her husband. That is all I can say without giving spoilers. I do love this Author's writing. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
