The Hawaiian Discovery by Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter is another charming, contemporary Amish story in their Hawaii series. Again set in the beautiful state of Hawaii, readers find Ellen and Mandy dealing with the struggles that life has put in their lives. I loved the returning characters and the new ones too--strong and realistic with a depth to their emotions, strengths, and foibles that readers will connect well with. Lots of discovery going on...discovery of forgiveness and acceptance, discovery of strength in very difficult circumstances and of course, discovery of love. The Hawaiian Discovery is a touching story of
friends, family, and faith. The Brunstetters are wonderful storytellers and you won't want to miss this one!
I received a complimentary copy of the ebook from Netgalley and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

The second book in Wanda and Jean Brunstetter’s Hawaiian series, The Hawaiian Discovery is a book about love, family, and faith.
We rejoin Ellen and Mandy in Indiana, where Mandy and Ken have relocated and purchased a bed and breakfast. Ellen is working at their business to assist with the daily operations and she truly loves her job.
When Ken’s father passes suddenly, they are needed in Hawaii. Mandy and Ken return to Hawaii to assist his mother on their poultry farm and Ellen stays to run the B&B with the help of their friend Sadie.
Ezra is happy working at Ellen’s father’s shoe store. He is quite smitten with the lovely Ellen but can’t get up the nerve to ask her out. When she begins working at the shoe store to help out her father, he tries to find away.
When tragedy strikes in Hawaii, Ellen gets permission to fly out to be with Mandy. She quickly rediscovers her love for Hawaii and her friends she left behind. She also meets Rob Smith, a young man that is hired to help out at the poultry business.
It was great to be back in Hawaii for this book. It is really odd to think about an Amish story taking place in Hawaii, but Wanda and Jean pull it off so well. I love the old and new characters, as well as, the story line. Another well written hit!!
I received a copy of from NetGalley and Barbour Publishing in return for my honest review.

I have to admit, the idea of Amish in Hawaii, sounded a bit strange. The Amish are notoriously modest, and I couldn't reconcile them with beaches and bikinis. But I have enjoyed other Wanda Brunstetter books, and wanted to give this one a chance. I am glad I did. It is a gentle story, not filled with danger or suspense. But the author has managed to create a pleasing story set in Hawaii.

Ellen is perfectly happy running a bed and breakfast with her best friend Mandy and her husband. When Mandy's father-in-law dies, she and her husband relocate to Hawaii to help run the family chicken farm. When Mandy sells the Bed and Breakfast, Ellen is out of a job. While she looks for new employment, Mandy calls to say that her husband has been attacked by a shark while surfing. Ellen leaves immediately for Hawaii to support her best friend. While there, she must make a choice between a new love interest, or an old friend back home. Who will she choose?

I liked the story and I think that author did a good job. I think that other readers should start with book one. I feel like I missed out on some of the story because of events that happened earlier. The author does her best to fill in the gaps, but I still feel left out a bit. Overall, good story and I will be waiting for the next Wanda Brunstetter book.

This is a cute book. I think it must be part of a series, because there were times (about 10%) that I just wasn't sure what the author was talking about, and it felt like I should know other characters and the story before. HOWEVER, it doesn't detract from the book as a whole. You're not quite sure until the ending which suitor she will end up choosing, and there are a couple of big surprises sprinkled throughout!

Wanda Brunstetter is the author who first got me hooked on Amish fiction over ten years ago! And she's still one of my top favorites! I also now enjoy the novels she co writes with Jean Brunstetter, her daughter in law. Such talented story tellers, these ladies are.
In The Hawaiian Discovery, readers are re introduced to longtime friends Ellen, Mandy, Sadie and Barbara, and particularly, Ellen and Mandy. Mandy has settled in Indiana with her Hawaiian husband, Ken, running an Amish style B and B. Ellen is happily employed by Mandy and Ken to assist in the daily operations of the inn. Ellen becomes a full time proprietor when Ken and Mandy must travel to Hawaii due to his father's sudden illness. Ellen further discovers her joy in running such an inn.
Meanwhile, Ezra, who works for Ellen's father, tries to summon the courage to ask Ellen if he can court her. However, this plan is quickly halted when Ellen is asked by Mandy to come to Hawaii to support Mandy when Ken is seriously injured. Ellen receives permission to travel back to Hawaii where the four friends traveled a few years ago. She re- discovers her love for the islands and the people of Hawaii. Her initially planned brief stay turns open ended as she stays to assist Mandy and Kens' mother in his recovery. She also meets and spends time with Rob, who is hired to help on the chicken farm. Will Ellen decide to leave the Amish church? Will Rob reveal the secrets he is holding about why he has left his family, and just who they are? To find out if Ellen and Rob have a chance for a future, and to see how Mandy and Ken's life together continues to develop, I wholeheartedly recommend The Hawaiian Discovery. Prepare for several hours of enjoyment!

Wanda E Brunstetter is a wonderful writer especially when it comes to faith and romance. After reading the first book I was expecting a totally different story with this one. I felt the beginning when Ellen was working at the B&B was way to played out and it felt like it took forever. I was hoping for something a little faster pace like the first book it smoothed right along and with this one it felt a little forced.Ellen maybe to blame I could not connect with her character at all in this book. I however am hoping there will be another book with a continuation of characters from this one and I will fall in love with them! Read the first book before diving into this one so you know what is going on.
