GIGGED by Sarah Kessler should be an up to date analysis of how work is changing, Instead, it is kind of an unprofessional whine as she refers to "becoming employable – not following dreams, seeking some sort of personal fulfillment or whatever it is they tell kids in coastal states." Even though she does talk about some of the opportunities like being your own boss and some of the problems such as more individual risk associated with the gig economy, Kessler also notes, "I followed a handful of their experiences for this book. It's not intended to be a complete, birds-eye view of the gig economy." Another concern is that many of her examples are out of date (Uber in Austin has gone through quite a few permutations since her opening references to 2011) or out of business (like Homejoy, a former cleaning company). GIGGED attempts to address an important topic which deserves more thoughtful coverage. 2.5 stars
