This is book 2 of the Kittridge Ranch Series. In this one, Harriette approaches local rancher Jensen because she needs help for a student. When they work together, neither knows what will happen, or if the sparks that they feel will destroy everything.

ALL NIGHT WITH THE COWBOY - Soraya Lane

SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE - 3.5 stars

Plot - 4 stars - After a violent fall from a rodeo bull, Tanner needs to recover before getting back into the ring. The best PT for the job is his ex, Lauren, but both of them are leery about spending so much time together.

Writing - 3.5 stars - Lane always creates such great characters, and this book was no exception. The setting of Fiji is different and exotic, and it was fun to see both of them out of their usual element. My only problem with this book is that Lane spent a little too much time on the same conflict between them--the long-ago break-up. Sure, that was an important memory between them, but it seemed to take up too much space in the story, and I wanted them to move on a little quicker.

Characters - 4 stars - Lauren is a great heroine--a strong woman with a good career. She's a little unsure of herself, especially around Tanner, but she's professional, with a close relationship with her family. Tanner, a former wild child, has reached the top of his career field. But he's still pretty stubborn about continuing when retirement looks like the obvious choice to the rest of the sensible people around him. I didn't feel as much of a connection to him as I did to Lauren, which took away from the story a bit.

Title - 3 stars - I'm not too sure what the title means. Well, besides the obvious. Sure, they spend all night together while they're on vacation, but I didn't really feel that it was the main focus of the story.

Cover - 3.5 stars - A beautiful background with some eye-catching color, but the characters and the pose are just routine for this genre.

Overall - 3.5 stars - The only reason I'd take off any points is that this book, although sweet and romantic, spent a little too much time on the same plot line. Yes, Lauren was unhappy when she had to give up Tanner as a teenager, but she's moved on, hasn't she? And, yes, Tanner was shocked and upset by being dumped as a teenager, but he should also have moved on by now. The fact that they are thrown together again has some elements of sexual tension that worked, but it's time to get over it already. I did like the unusual setting and adapting a cowboy story to Fiji was clever and different. There was a build-up to a big storm, but then that sub-plot just fizzled when they were airlifted off the island. I was expecting some sort of danger and exciting scene with them stuck somewhere, but...no. On top of that, I thought the Tanner-flying-the-helicopter-around-helping-people-during-a-hurricane part was a little over-the-top. All in all, a good story, but not one of her best.

A second chance all around…

Ahh… Cowboys. Filling boots and stirrups in only the way they can. Tanner? Well, he fit the bill nicely. Recovering from a horrible injury from his last ride, having his old flame be his physical therapist was not what he ordered. His high school girlfriend dumped him abruptly and since then he’s never been able to trust anyone outside his family. Lauren wasn’t looking for a second chance with the love of her life but it seemed she was getting one…

Set in beautiful Bali, it was neutral territory where they argued, grumped and tried to come to grips with the hurts of the past. There was steam and heart to hearts that told me the sparks were still there.

I admit, I struggled with this story at times. From why the break up happened to the hot/cold nature of their relationship now. At the end though, things sorted out in just the right way.

This was a solid first read by this author and I will be looking for more from her…

All Night With The Cowboy is an enjoyable second chance romance and I definitely have a weakness for that trope, add up and injured bull rider and his high school sweetheart becoming the best physical therapist in town and you have me completely smitten.

I liked Tanner and Lauren’s journey, how they both grew up chapter after chapter making hard choices for the future and how they also succed to mend their broken hearts in the process.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

I was looking forward to learning more about Tanner after we met him in Mia's book, but I was surprised with the direction his story went. I'm a sucker for a second-chance-romance story and when he and Lauren are brought back together while she helps him recover, the sparks that got them in trouble when they were younger are still there. I guess I was torn about them both being so stubborn about their relationship. I get not wanting to change your whole life for someone, but it seemed like they were both being incredibly inflexible. If I'm being honest, I actually have a hard time seeing how they're going to last if they keep this up.

I'm intrigued to see what's next in the River Ranch series, especially since we didn't meet either of the other siblings in this book, other than a passing mention.

All Night with the Cowboy is the second book in the River Ranch series by Soraya M. Lane. It's a stand-alone second chance romance and as some people might know, second chances romances are a miss for me. Still, I give them chances, especially if they are part of a series I read. The book was a miss for me for plenty of reasons, but mostly because I didn't like the hero of the novel who seemed very immature and not worthy of our heroine.

Tanner and Lauren bring us through many emotions in this second chance romance. It is a standalone novel. I love me some cowboy!

The story line for this one was a good idea - a second chance romance - however I found that the main characters kept bringing up how much they hurt each other in the past. It was quite repetitive. It felt like the story dragged a little bit, as yes, things were happening, but if felt like nothing was moving forward at the same time.

I liked the characters in the book, however it just seemed to drag a little for me. Maybe its just my reading slump at the moment, I'm not too sure.

I would like to read more from this author though.

I enjoyed this standalone second chance romance. Told in both Tanner and Lauren's POV.
The writing is good. There are a few errors, but they don't pull you from the story. I also felt that the flow of the book was a bit choppy in places.
Overall, the story was intriguing enough to keep me emotionally involved with the characters.

This was an enjoyable read if you are looking for a good sweet second chance romance for a quiet afternoon then this is for you It is well written with good likable characters. Tanner and Lauren were high school sweethearts but have not seen each other in more than ten years that is until he is injured while bull riding and she turns out to be his physical therapist. These two have lots of chemistry and both still have deep feelings for each other this is a really good sweet read.

An easy read - predictable storyline but was a good holiday beach book - didn’t require a great deal of thinking. Just what I need for a holiday.

Second in the River Ranch series, All Night picks up the story of the second Ford sibling, Tanner, and the physical therapist who brings him back from a career-threatening injury – who also happens to be his first love. The athlete/physical therapist pairing feels like a fresh take on sports romance. While other examples can certainly be found, it’s less common than the sport journalist or owner/manager/team business person. Happily, any ethical concerns are adequately addressed and readers will appreciate Lauren’s concern for her professional reputation. Business-like details about how she goes about her job add interest and credibility. Tanner is more wounded by their past than she is, and won’t trust easily. Their temporary “no strings” affair in Tahiti combining work and pleasure give them a chance to fan their old flame, and also to discover the changes that come twelve years on from a teenage love. But giving it all up when they get back to real life will be harder than they expect. Fans of sports romance and cowboy heroes will definitely want to check this one out.

SUMMARY: Tanner Ford gives “stubborn” new meaning. All he needs to do is step into the family dynasty, but he’s been in love with bull-riding since he was a kid and nothing is going to make him give it up before he’s ready. Not his father, and definitely not the mean-as-hell bull that put him on the injured list for months. But to get back in the chute he’s going to need the help of Lauren – Lol – the girl who dumped him harder than any bull ever did. As for Lauren, getting past the guilt and the anger over their past is almost too much to ask. But professional pride as an elite physical therapist and an attraction that never burnt out just might be enough.

All Night with the Cowboy is the second novel in Soraya Lane's River Ranch series, but it's also the first novel in the series that I've read, as well as the first time I've read anything by this author. It does work as a standalone, so I never felt lost because I'd missed the first novel in the series. I love a good second chance romance, I love reading about cowboys, and I am especially fond of bull riders and the PBR, so this novel appealed to me on many levels, and, for the most part, it kept me entertained throughout, and it gets 4 stars from this reader.

The principle characters in this novel are Tanner Ford, world champion bull rider, and Lauren Lewis, a physical therapist under contract with a professional sports team. Once upon a time, these two were high school sweethearts, planning on being together forever. Although the two teenagers had amazing chemistry and deeply loved one another, Lauren's parents thought Tanner, the town bad boy, was beneath her, and forced her to break up with Tanner or lose the college tuition they planned to give her. She'd she'd always wanted to go into sports medicine, and couldn't see herself following Tanner around on the rodeo circuit. He'd always wanted to be a professional bull rider, but when she ended their relationship, she never gave Tanner a reason why, and she broke his heart, and her own as well. Over the years, Tanner's broken heart morphed into deeply held anger and a complete distrust of relationships.

Tanner did indeed become a champion bull rider, and he's at the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, and has drawn a rank bull, Thunder Cat, who throws him after only 5 seconds, tearing the muscles in his wrist as he does so, and then repeatedly goring and trampling him, breaking his ribs, and crushing his ankle. Tanner's recovery is long and slow, and it's not going well. The stubborn cowboy wants to ride bulls again, and so his sister, Mia, arranges for him to get away with the best physical therapist in the business. She's sending him to Fiji for several weeks of intensive PT, and it's only at the last minute that he finds out that the therapist is Lauren, who had planned to spend 3 weeks in Fiji vacationing after an exhausting sports season finally ended. To say that neither of them was comfortable seeing each other again is putting it mildly. But Tanner needs intensive PT, and Lauren is the best at what she does, and so Fiji it is.

Although Lauren had the career she'd always dreamed of, she'd never really gotten over Tanner either, but she didn't hate him, and she'd never in the 12 years they'd been apart found a man who came close to measuring up. The chemistry these two had for one another is still there, and although Lauren doesn't mess around with her sports clients, her attraction to Tanner is something she can only fight for so long. Tanner, although surly and uncooperative at the outset, is still the man who holds her heart, and the two finally agree to a vacation-only fling, and what a fling it is. Their vacation is cut short by a terrible storm that's about to hit the islands, and so too is their fling. Tanner is back to being surly on the jet home and the two part yet again, but you know that isn't the end of their story.

My only issue with this novel, was that these two characters seemed to be more in lust than in love, and there was a bit too much waffling back and forth on both their parts. I couldn't help wondering why Lauren's reason for breaking up with Tanner back in high school was kept such a deep, dark secret for so long.

So, what's in store for these two characters? Will they overcome the differences in their career goals? Will Tanner be able to rejoin the PBR? Will he be injured again? Will Lauren manage to finally get over Tanner, get on with her life and career, and find someone else to love? What, if anything, will bring these two characters together again? To find out the answers to these questions, you'll just have to read this novel yourself, since I don't do spoilers.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

This well written novel is all about lost first loves and second chances, keeping you guessing about whether the two can push past their history in order to make a future together.

Tanner and Lauren were deeply in love in high school. Their romance as everything – they were always together! Tanner was always viewed as the motorcycle driving bad boy and Lauren the good girl. Just as they were about to graduate, Lauren breaks off her relationship with Tanner which devastates him as he never learns why, although he does blame her parents. Later on in the novel we learn that her parents give her a choice – break up with him and go on to school and they will help pay her education or stay with Tanner and they will not help. While it may sound harsh, they have her best interests at heart and Lauren realizes this later. She understands that if she hadn’t gone off to college to become a physical therapist, she may have settled into marriage with Tanner and kids (while not wrong, she wouldn’t have realized how much she loves her career and may come to resent him later).

Tanner’s sister works some magic and arranges for Lauren to become his physical therapist after a serious injury. It isn’t long before sparks fly! What they first agree to (a casual, no strings attached fling) soon becomes more with each not sure how to move forward. We watch them struggle with their feelings, expressing their emotions and learning how to move forward if they want to make a relationship work. It was a beautiful story from start to finish!

Sandy M’s review of All Night with the Cowboy (River Ranch, Book 2) by Soraya Lane
Contemporary Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 29 May 18

I’m a huge fan of cowboys in romance. So when I thought it was time to read a new author and I came across this title, I figured I couldn’t go wrong. Should I have stuck with my favorite western-writing authors instead?

I’m thinking so. There are no surprises in this book. I do like Tanner, a sexy bull-ridin’ cowboy. He’s been on the top of his game for the last ten years and has just suffered his first major injury while riding Thunder Cat. He needs the best in the business when it comes to therapy so he can get back in the saddle, so to speak. His sister knows all about Lauren Lewis, the one who left Tanner without a word, with a broken heart during their high school days, and who is also now successful in her field. Tanner has held a grudge ever since, so you can imagine what a reunion will be like.

Of course, Lauren had her reasons for the breakup. At first she’s reluctant to take Tanner on, but time in Fiji with the love she left behind? At least that’s what you’d think. However, Lauren goes all professional, despite what her heart and emotions tell her. This is fine to a point, but once she gives in, she goes right back to her ethics, and a teeter totter ride has begun. It takes too much time for her to finally give in and all the see-sawing kept me from really warming up to Lauren. It’s paradise, they don’t even try to really talk to each other to figure out their feelings until it’s nearly too late, so sex is it for quite a while. And it’s Tanner who tries to throw in the towel first, so that cowboy garners high marks from me.

Unfortunately, Tanner’s efforts, the love scenes, and the realizations late in the book can’t make up for those issues. Things are much too predictable and too late for this reader to make this story a more enjoyable read.

Grade: C

The writing is top notch, and the story is entertaining. The romance is sweet, and I liked both of the main characters. Tanner is a bull rider, whose heart was broken by Lauren when they were 18. Tanner is injured and Lauren is a physical therapist, so they go to Fiji to work on Tanner's rehabilitation. Lauren has her reasons for leaving Tanner, but he's determined to keep his heart locked up, so he doesn't get hurt again; he can't trust Lauren. This is a second chance romance, and then there's also a sort of friends with benefits thing, or rather sex without getting involved relationship between the lead characters. I'm not really a fan of that scenario because it always works out the same in books, and I don't like to think of the characters being dumb enough to think feelings won't get involved. I love second chance romances though, so I enjoyed that aspect. I do think Lauren should've fessed up a lot sooner. The story moved a little too slow for me on that aspect. Overall, it's a sweet story with some sexy times, and I liked it. I liked the cowboy aspect, and I liked the connection with Tanner's whole family. I'd be open to reading more by Soraya Lane, and reading more books dealing with Tanner's family. Since this was my first book by Soraya Lane, I'd also like to read the first in this series to get the full story of Mia's (Tanner's sister) story. Sweet, easy read.

I usually love second chance romances. But this one fell pretty flat for me. Why? Glad you asked.

There were so many things that didn’t sit right with me, starting with the way author continually rehashed the hero and heroine’s thoughts/feelings. She didn’t want to break up with him, he got his heart broken by her. Blah blah blah…

Lauren and Tanner were high school sweethearts. But Lauren’s parents weren’t impressed with motorcycle riding, cigarette smoking, bull riding Tanner, so they made an ultimatum she couldn’t ignore. Now it’s 12 years later and physical therapist to pro-athletes Lauren is the best person to help Tanner heal after nearly being trampled to death by a bull. Tanner’s sister Mia works a deal with Lauren for Tanner to tag along on Lauren’s long overdue and much needed vacation to a tropical island to start on Tan’s physical therapy. (Yep, her nickname for him is “Tan” and he calls her “Lol” - because when they were younger she was always laughing out loud. Please excuse my gagging.)

So off they trot to Fiji for three weeks of rest, relaxation and rehab. They both get all hot and bothered while she’s doing the massage part of his treatment. I don’t think I need to spell out where things lead.

But they both agree that their fling will only last while they’re on the island. So now this book has jumped into the “relationship with a time limit” - which is a trope I DON’T love. Because, again, we’re having to read too much repeated internal monologue about the other person not feeling the same way and not wanting the same things. Blah blah blah...

Seriously, these two just needed to have a long, honest conversation. About the past. About the present. About the future. Stop having sex and use your words!!!

So yeah, this book frustrated me. A bunch.

And then we get the most random thing thrown in. A big storm is going to hit the island so they have to evacuate, and Lauren is feeling terrible that they’re able to take a helicopter off the island but the people who work there and live there can’t. But not to worry! Tanner flies a helicopter and is able to make multiple trips back to the island to help with evacuations. Wha??? First of all, he’s a bull rider with a helicopter license? (It’s explained later in the book that his family’s ranch is so big they use a helicopter to keep an eye on things and that he’s been flying for years, but when it first came up I was all, huh???). Second of all, I’m fairly certain it’s not like driving a car where if you can drive one you can drive them all. Aircraft aren’t like that, and I seriously doubt whoever owns that helicopter is just gonna let any yahoo who says he can fly it take it up in the air - in a huge storm. I realize this is all fiction, but I like things to be at least a little realistic.

I was cautiously optimistic about this second book in the River Ranch series. The first book mostly fell flat for me as well, but picked up in the last half of the story. Sadly, this one never moved away from all the repetitive internal monologues lamenting about, well, everything. I always like to give a new-to-me author more than one read, and I did, so I can put this author in my “don’t read this author” pile without regret. I still feel bad doing it though. But not every author is going to appeal to me, and I’m okay with that.

On to my next book!
