I feel with that premise this book could have been great for me but I didn't really enjoy it tbh. I think it's cause I read so many like these that it all blends together

DNF - tried about 20% but the plot didn't work for me, the characters were boring and there was an overused cliche feel about the whole thing. Not interested in anymore.

Flat characters, plotline that is not innovative AT ALL, lack of great writing. This book has all of that. Sometimes I feel like I overgrown some kinds of stories, not because they´re YA or NA (I love those), but because the characters can be so immature, it frustrates me.

When I saw this book on Netgalley, I loved the cover and was really interested in reading it. But this turned out to be one of those don't-judge-a-book-by-its-cover case. The writing was flat, making the characters look flat. Added to that, the instant friendship felt off and the characters had an emo thing going, like they couldn't decide which mood they wanted to be in. It was annoying. And the way all the kids were straight-forward and told their feelings honestly to each other? What teen does that? It was unrealistic.

Even more annoying, the constant shifting from guy-to-guy without a specific love triangle thing going on. The twists that came out of nowhere without proper explanations. There was no specific plot-line either. The scenes didn't seem to lead to a proper intense climax and were too frivolous at times.

I really tried to like this book but it just wasn't for me.

Emerge: the awakening by Melissa A Craven.
This was an absolutely fantastic read with brilliant characters. I loved allies character. I loved how Sasha aidan Vincent Chloe and Kayla got on well together. I wasn't expecting that. Looking forward to next part. 5*.

I received this book for free from Netgalley and Publisher/author in exchange for honest review.

First, lets just look at this cover. The beauty of it... YES! The cover on good reads is different but even more stunning.

This book was just amazing. I loved the world building in the book. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I hate it took me this long to pick this book up. This book was published in April 2015 and I just now got my hands on it. WHAT!!!! I seem to always pick up books with schools. I think I am just pulled that way.

Melissa Craven, the author, did a great job translating this story. I was not a let down.

This was dull.

I enjoyed a lot of things about this book. I think it was a great introduction into Allie's world. Allie as a character was likeable. She was resilient, had good instincts, and stood up for herself when she needed to. I could definitely feel for her as she described the loneliness that she has felt all her life as people around her felt uneasy with her. I loved getting to know Aidan, his friends and his family. I think that it was interesting finding out their backstories. I do have to admit that at one point there were so many characters that it did become a little hard to keep them all straight, especially when she met Aidan's brothers and cousins and so on and so forth.

I really liked Aidan as a love interest for Allie. I get that there is a sense of "insta love" because they are able to be around each other and feel at ease with one another; but I think the author did a good job of having Allie address that when she was telling Aidan why they couldn’t be more than friends. I like that they are developing a friendship before diving into anything more (which I do hope that they do).

The pacing of the story was good but I definitely liked when it picked up toward the second half of the book. Sometimes the training scenes could drag on toward the middle of the story, but I understand that the author was really trying to give us a clear view of this new world that Allie was a part of. It was a breath of fresh air for me to read this story as typically the books that I have been leaning towards either have vampires, werewolves, or some type of fae in them. I mean don't get me wrong I can read those stories ALL DAY, but it was a nice change for me.

I have to say that I did see that cliff hanger at the end of the story coming, even though I feel like there's a lot of explaining that needs to be done to really understand it. It did the trick though and I am thoroughly invested and need to know how this story continues!!!

This started out slow for me but I am glad that I continued reading it. I would have missed out on a pretty interesting book. I love the paranormal world and this book definitely had that in spades. It was an intriguing premise that I enjoyed. Thank you for allowing me to write about this book.

Not really my cup of tea as it didn't make me feel invested in the characters or their developments.

An okay read, little slow paced at times but with a story line that made me want to keep reading and putting the next book in series on my kindle. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Midnight Hour Studio!

Had a hard time getting invested and keeping up at certain points as the writing was confusing. Unfortunately this wasn't for me.

A kind of guilty pleasure book. An interesting read, but ultimately not something I would suggest to friends. Until Allie's 16th birthday the book jumps around quite a bit without warning. It almost seems as if chunks of scenes and days of 'time' in the story were just pulled out during an edit or possibly never filled in and fleshed out. The story-line is intriguing and eventually the writing smoothed out enough to keep me reading and make me wonder what happens in future books. After the awakening the story got much smoother and became quite enjoyable to read. The foreshadowing with the various storms at the beginning seemed rather obvious, but the twist ending has me hooked and looking for the next one.

I was gifted a copy of this novel from the publisher and author through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The first half of this book was honestly a little hard to get through but once you got past it we see that it's an enjoyable read. The plot had a couple of holes and the love triangle was unnecessary but overall it was a great concept and just needs a little extra work.

I never, if ever, give a one star review to any book, but I couldn’t see giving this book any more than that. I had to force myself through the part of the book that I did read before giving up, just so I could at least give it a chance. I had such high hopes for this book because it sounded great, but it wasn’t good past the synopsis There are so many reasons why this book was just one star for me..
Here are somethings that I notice:
There absolutely no plot. It is literally non-existent. The story just skips from conversation to conversation. It feels like I’m reading the outline of a story, minus all the background information and descriptions. Most of the conversations don’t make sense and a lot of them have no connection at all.
There was very little character development. We learn very little of the characters early on in the book at least. I felt like I was reading blindly, trying to piece together some sort of back story to each of the characters.
The only thing that was semi developed was the wanna be love triangle. I read something where the author said something about wanting a strong, female lead. I feel like to accomplish that, a love triangle is irrelevant. A strong woman doesn’t need a man to get through life. She needs strong relationships with good friends and family to get through her hardships.
I think that the idea behind the story was good, but the presentation was terrible. I would be willing to read something else by this author, but this book is unfortunately not working. It just needs too much work for it to be good.

I was given a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I was not drawn into that story at all. I read it and from the begining, could not get into the story at all. It felt like it was complicated, when it could have been simple. I got lost a few times. It didn't help that I was reading two books at the same time and that the other one was very good. But I don't think I would read a sequel to this novel.

I really couldn't get into this book. I didn't like the beginning of the book. It seemed extremely cliche with her moving to a new school and running into the guy like in every book.

Emerge: The Awakening started off as a young adult, supernatural fiction cliche in terms of the slightly outcast girl, unstable family and her life being upheaved. It disappointed me but I continued because I hadn't learnt anything about her true nature and the actual storyline of the book. I did wonder if she was so clueless and in my opinion useless, as a tool to show character development by making the beginning slow and dopey as its revealed later in the book the true reason events from the beginning were happening. Either way it's a shame because the beginning is what's dragging the rating down despite the rest of the book being totally fun and engaging.

On the bright side, once the immortal nature kicked in the slow start slowly built to an ever increasing crescendo and then I was hooked! 😍 so hooked I've since bought the whole series because I can't bear to not know what happens 🙈

Allie and Aidan have become one of my absolute FAVORITE book couples up there with Rowan and Aelin for the plain fact that they are equals. Neither of the characters are seen to be weaker or less valuable to the other and in turn out adds so much value to the characters as a reader.

There's a couple of twists here and there that were really enjoyable, some I anticipated and others not so much. Overall Emerge is a really great read once you get past the slow beginning and I feel like the series will only improve from here because all the ground work is laid out.

Emerge: The Awakening by Melissa A. Craven is a refreshing take on Immortals. I was so happy that they have limitations and can die if they are not careful. I fell in love with all of the characters especially Allie and Aidan. I want them to be together so badly that I kind of swore at a certain point in the book where it looks like that might not be the case. It'll be sad especially when you read Aidan's reactions. Thank you, Melissa A. Craven, for having all of your characters flawed and balanced. It means a lot when you can feel for them even if you aren't going through the same thing. I would 100% recommend this book to anyone.
