Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get into this story. I love the concept though.

I didn't quite realize when I request this title from NetGalley that it's more or less self-published - nothing wrong with that, but in this case it does show in the quality of the writing and so I didn't make it until the end of the story. The idea and concept is really fun, but the execution is rather poor.

I wanted to like this one so much - I am a huge fan of time travel, and the idea that in this iteration you can only revisit and relive your own life is relatively uncommon in the genre... I liked that, instead of the typical "meet someone famous"/"change the course of human events" type of time travel, this story offered personal redemption through the ability to revisit - and more importantly, revise - one significant moment in your past, and that from that point forward there was no jumping back, you were then set to live out the rest of your lifespan from that point forward.

Great concept.

Unfortunately, I just could not get into the book or find myself rooting for the main character. Which is odd, because he is almost a prototype for the sad-sack, my-life-went-off-track underdog, and I usually like to see someone battle for personal redemption. Not this time. I just couldn't find myself feeling sorry for Max - or feeling much of anything about any of the characters, for that matter. I don't know what it was - it's possible that Max's "do-over" moment resonated with me on such a sour note that I couldn't get past that though... (I can't say more, for spoilers, so sorry if that's cryptic.) The writing was fine - nothing earth-shatteringly brilliant or astonishingly witty but solid, almost somber, as befit the topics and themes presented. I just never fell into this story the way I wanted to...

A fun romp of a time travel story. Maxes journey was truly enjoyable one.
