This was an excellent take on this trope and this author showed she can do so much with this concept and I'm excited to see what she can do in the future.

This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine. We and Rebecca were well-written characters. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.

Roni Loren is an absolute favorite author of mine. Whenever I see she's writing or about to release a new book I may or may not run around the house dancing in excitement. I love her writing. Her characters are always amazingly well written, relatable, and enjoyable to read about. Despite her books in a series being in the same world I never want to drop the character I'm reading to go back to previous characters.

The series The Ones Who Got Away is definitely a series I was on board to read about considering I work in schools and with the rising number of school shootings happening around the U.S. it honestly feels like only a matter of time before I'm caught in one. It's a sad reality a lot of people are facing and I feel like Roni Loren handled this series with grace.

We got to read about Rebecca in The Ones Who Got Away book one where she met up with her friends who we will read about in other books. Rebecca feels like an imposter, especially after reading about her past self's goals. While she is a successful divorce attorney she isn't doing anything else she's set out to do. Despite being a survivor of the Long Acre school shooting she feels like she's barely hanging onto who she is or who she wants to be. One night she gets saved from a mugging and comes face-to-face with Wes Garrett.

Wes has had it rough since his ex-wife misrepresented him in the divorce and stole his restaurant from him. The person who helped him lose everything? Yeah whoops, that was Rebecca. His dream of opening a restaurant is gone and now all he wants to do is hide his head in the sand and maybe open a food truck.

I loved Rebecca and Wes, both together and separate. While you know going into it that they, of course, have to end up together, the journey didn't feel rushed. There's a slow build-up to feelings and more than just distrust over past biases. Rebecca has a lot of struggles with what's expected of her versus who she is with her parents and I couldn't have found that more relatable. I loved Rebecca start to finish and couldn't have been happier that she got a happy ending with more than just a very lovable boyfriend. Wes was amazing too. I hurt for him to realize he'd lost so much but he just needed a nudge to get his butt into gear and I liked that he wasn't too proud to ask for help.

Very well done story that will have you craving the rest of the series. The story is swoon-worthy with amazing writing and fantastic characters. An absolute must-read!

I struggled with every character in this book. Having read book 1 I was looking forward to reading Rebecca’s book. Sadly nothing about her or Wes’ relationship evoked any feeling within me. It’s not that I disliked them I simply didn’t care. Their families was another matter. So it was a struggle to get through this book when nothing worked for me. Sadly that happens.

This is a great story of how opposites attract. Rebecca and Wes couldn't be more different and yet they are a perfect match. Rebecca endured something so horrific in high school and everyday she deals with the trauma from that. She has physical and mental scars and pushes herself to be as perfect as she can be to atone for her sins. Wes has had a bad time of it with a failed marriage and business and is trying to put his life back together. He is as opposite from Rebecca as you can get.

The writing is beautiful and takes these two wounded souls and shows us how they heal one another and are both able find a future together. I love this series. Great read!

This series entails four standalones about a group of girls who escaped a school shooting when they were in high school.

As I started this book I was crossing my fingers wishing and hoping we get to know Rebecca story now. I screamed inside when I figured I was right. In high school Rebecca was madly in love with Finn her neighbor and bestfriend. Unfortunately Finn was in love with someone else. Which didn't help Rebecca to have faith in love

Rebecca's life changed once again by a terrible event. This event brought Wes into her life. Someone who she have known thru her job. A person who was a alcoholic and accused of cheating. She knew she shouldn't be around him but couldn't stop herself. This series it's one that you won't be able to put down. So happy Rebecca followed her heart with Wes and Knight.

The second book of the The Ones Who Got Away series was definitely so much better than what I expected. For its subject matter this series has struck a chord in me. It’s not an easy theme to begin with, and both in the previous book and in this one, the repercussions of such a horrible event are there for the characters who survived. For those who are not familiar with it, the series revolves around a group of high school acquaintances who survive a school shooting and become dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.

As you can guess with the subject matter that connects all the heroes and heroines of the books, this was a very emotional read. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would feel like to experience something like this and move on, and what scars it leaves on a person, but I do think Roni Loren led me pretty close. Especially in this book. Especially through Rebecca. I wasn’t so sure about her in the previous book, but having one’s own story is for times like these, and Rebecca quickly became a character I could relate to, one who reached into my conscience, that deep place where I tucked away the girl I was in high school, all safe and sound.

This book was important, I think, for it felt like a criticism. The school system, gun control, parenting and everything in between, even the smallest detail, that can be a determining factor when it comes to violence committed by our youngsters these days. Through Rebecca and Wes, we got so many sides to the same sad story. And I loved it that Roni Loren gave it a hopeful ending, blending it with romance which I’ll come to in a minute. I’m usually not one who likes her romance reads on the heavier side but with real issues handled so nicely like this one, I realized it makes my reading experience even better. And it’s all I could hope for.

As for the romance, oh dear. I’m a sucker for friends to lovers stories and although this wasn’t exactly such a story—Rebecca and Wes’s attraction was lightning fast and the chemistry was off the charts from the beginning after all— but I still like to consider it a little bit like that. From the moment they meet and greet, they had a spark waiting to ignite, but they also became friends first. They kept up the flirting at all times but they also shared and supported. And they had one of the sweetest email correspondence I’ve ever read in a book. In a nutshell, I loved them. How sexy and sweet they were together, how determined to help they were, and how courageous and positive they both stayed in the face of all the shit they had to deal with. An inspiring couple they definitely were.

I’m adding five spoonfuls of this story into my hodgepodge, and looking forward to the next story because I now know Roni Loren is going to wring my emotions in the best possible way yet again.

Another book that has been sitting on my Kindle for far too long, another story I should have read much sooner—I absolutely hate myself for waiting so long to read this wonderful book. My only consolation is that experiencing this story for the first time through the brilliant audibook narration by Jeanine Bartel made it just that much more immersive and compelling. Centred around one of the survivors of a decade-old school shooting, this is a story of opposites attracting, of compassion, of forgiveness, and of love healing even the deepest emotional scars. The perfect blend of heat, emotion, charismatic characters, and sassy banter, this book was sheer bliss, and Bartel's lovely Southern accent was the cherry on top.

I must say this wasn’t what I was expecting, but none the less, it was enjoyable. The story was intriguing and held your attention. The characters were easy to relate to and connect with. Fans of the romance genre will find this very enjoyable!

Roni Loren brings us another book. And we finally get Rebecca story. I know everyone has been waiting for it. I know that I am.

Reader have read little about Rebecca in The One Who Got Away. And we get to know more about Rebecca. Rebecca has always been the tough person in high school. It may have imitated some people. She has faces a lot of trauma in her life but it shape her as tough women.

Rebecca is very known to be the best divorce lawyer in town. It may get unnoticed to her father. But that’s something she needs to work with her lawyer. It may be long due. She is going to face that issue at a later date. She has a more pressing issue. She recently face mugging incident that brought up some old trauma. And lucky someone interrupted before it would escalated. That lucky person would be Wes, who she remembers that it was her client who divorce him. She remember all of his worst acts.

Wes definitely remembers Rebecca. And it is not pretty. Things has changed the last time they seen each other. And most of those acts that were accused were false. She will discover that as she gets to know more about Wes. Wes works real hard in cooking career. It took a while but he made it. It may have some bumps but he is making it work.

Wes and Rebecca may have butt heads in the beginning but they have irresistible chemistry. They can share their problems with each other since they fully trust each other. That’s love. Yes, love can be challenging for them but it is definitely worth it.

The One You Can’t Forget will bring two people who will share their trouble and bring the future they are meant to have. 4 ½ stars

What an incredible story between two people who should have never found their way togheter let alone stayed that way. Rebecca has always f0llowed the rules under the direct supervision of her father (and boss) but she is keeping a secret from the world that is eating her up inside. Wes Garrett’s life fell apart when his ex-wife took everything from him and now he is trying to start again. He has turned over a new leaf and has no intentions of dating again let alone finding another partner for life - that is until he meets Bec... or will that make everything worse? Bec and Wes should not be together by so many peoples standards - but what does the world know about what lies in their hearts. I LOVED this story. There wasn’t a single page of this book that I would have removed! I can’t wait to read the remaining books in this series as the survivors of Long Acre’s have found a special place in my heart (I am a high school teacher).

I was gifted an Ecopy of this book for an honest review.

I have honestly find this series so heartfelt and enjoyable (in a non-trite way?). It’s well written and heart wrenching and satisfying in a way that is both powerful and soothing to my angst loving heart. A+ all around.

The one thing that is getting on my nerves after having finished the third book is that we still don't know what happened to Marc and Kincaid. These two appear to have a flirt or something with other and it's one of the reasons Rebecca and Wes got together. Was that some kind of a hint that they will end up together or it was just a plot device to make things easier with the plot of the book? I don't know and it bugs me. I need closure and unfortunately, it will only come with Kincaid's book. I also needed something awful to happen to Wes's ex-wife. I felt like we needed some form of justice because she stole a lot of things from Wes and it was unfair. Basically, this book left me with a lot of frustration and feeling like we have unfinished business here. The sad part is that the main characters had a lot of chemistry and the spotlight was stolen from it. Well, also their breaking and making up had a part in that since Rebecca doesn't reveal to Wes how she knew him in the first place. I liked the life Wes build for himself and how Rebecca helped him shape it to be even better.

Sometimes sweet, sometimes heartbreaking, I love Roni Loren's books. The One You Can't Forget did not disappoint, and I will not be forgetting it any time soon. I definitely recommend Loren's books to long time contemporary romance fans, or people just starting out.

The One You Can't Forget was a magnificent book featuring an amazing romance between an unlikely pairing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rebecca Lindt feels more and more like an impostor with each passing day feeling she didn't deserve to survive when so many others didn't during that fateful night twelve years ago. Known to the world as a Long Acre survivor, Rebecca prefers to keep her head down and focus on her work. While walking home late one evening after a long day at the office, Rebecca is mugged only to be saved by a man whose wife she represented in their divorce. Wes Garrett is still trying to get back on his feet after his disastrous divorce but getting to know Rebecca turns his life upside down in the most unexpected of ways.

Rebecca is a character I related to quite strongly and I found myself connecting with her immediately. Rebecca grew up with heavy expectations placed on her and she became a perfectionist as a result. She considers herself as someone who doesn't need to be around others and doesn't understand people's attachments to stuff or pets. She suffers from a lot of guilt over her survival of the Long Acre shooting and believes she's undeserving of love due to her actions prior to the shooting.

Wes has an addictive personality and a tendency to get attached to ideas or people very quickly as a result. Wes is still struggling after his divorce and the subsequent decline of his mental health. While previously considered a rising star in the cooking world, Wes now works at an after school program teaching troubled kids how to cook. Wes is devoted to the kids and truly wants to help them succeed.

I'll admit I wasn't sure how Rebecca and Wes's relationship would work considering Rebecca's involvement in his divorce. Surprisingly the two move past it quickly after talking out the situation which I was happy to see as I would have disliked it if it was an issue constantly floating in the background. Rebecca and Wes's relationship has light, teasing banter throughout which I absolutely loved. Their joking and easy flirtation was very sweet and made for more than a few funny moments. The physical attraction between these two is obvious from the get go and they have amazing chemistry. The sex scenes are very hot and so well done.

The One You Can't Forget was a delightful read and while it delved into heavy topics at times, it was never too dark that I didn't enjoy it. I highly recommend this series and I can't wait to read the next book, The One You Fight For, when it releases in January.

This is a series I've really enjoyed. It's a difficult subject matter, but I feel like it's handled well. I'm a teacher, so school shootings are a scary real possibility in my life, and something I think about often. I didn't think I'd enjoy this series as much as I have.

Honestly I liked this one more than I liked the first, but still not my favorite Roni Loren! I am really excited to get the rest in this series though, because the characters are definitely interesting and the stories are well done, they just aren't page turners for me.

Thank you for the chance to read early!

This was my second Roni Loren book and I really enjoyed it. While it wasn’t as good as the first book in the series, I enjoyed the balance between the light and the dark, which worried me as the concept was extremely dark.
