This is a good classic love story. Jonathan nd Connie shared a summer together years ago. Connie has goals set as far as college, career and such. Jon is a dreamer a wanderer someone who just wanted to have life experiences. They fell in love on the Jersey Shore but she needed more commitment for their future so their love story ended..... or did it?
I enjoyed this book. It was a typical love story. I enjoyed the complexity of the characters and the back story. I normally like a bit more bedroom scenes. I truly liked the characters and would like to read more about the Jersey Shore. Great Job Caridad!

** I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review.

A quick and easy summer read. Starts out years ago, when Connie and Jon are having a summer fling. When Connie is obsessed with want security, after her father's fly by night style, she and Jon have a big fight, when he doesn't want to go back to college. Years later, they meet up again, when her best friend and his brother are getting married. Sparks are still there, and after a lot of give and take, there is a HEA. This is the second book in the series, and while I didn't read that one I had no problem following the story. Would recommend. A big plus with Dudley, who adds a nice touch.

What Happens in Summer, by Caridad Pineiro is a contemporary romance, and the second book in the At the Shore series.

Connie Reyes and Jonathan Pierce are college sweethearts, yet miscommunication and misguidance for their futures split them apart. Years later, they meet up again at a wedding and eventually pursue a relationship. Despite their drastic differences, Jonathan and Connie are still in love with each other, yet their pasts cause issues for their future.

What Happens in Summer is geared towards those who enjoy reading modern romances.

Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This book was a cute summer read! I liked that Connie and Jonathan were so opposite, and I really enjoyed their chemistry at the beginning of the book. I will say that they got together pretty quickly, and it was a lot more about how they could make it work than a will they/won't they kind of situation. There were quite a few parts that felt really repetitive as well. Also, Connie's preoccupation with Jon's inability to choose things drove me absolutely bonkers. Let him be. LOL. I did really appreciate Connie and her friend's friendship. It was nice to see a group of girls rooting for and supporting each other. I loved that their discussions were not completely about the men in their lives, as well.. My absolute favorite part of this book is when Connie goes to visit her mom. Their relationship is so nice, and I loved that her Cuban culture was sprinkled throughout the book. Honestly, I wanted more of that! I thought that some of the resolutions were pretty quick. I was kind of frustrated with how Connie handled the decisions she made with Jonathan as well. I did really enjoy the Buffy reference. Lastly, yeah I was drawn in by the cute cover. I just wanted a fun summer read! :)

The story of Connie and Jon, who meet when the are college students, but Connie finishes with Jon when he drops out of college - she has a plan and this doesn't fit with it! 7 years later they are thrown together when her best friend and his brother get together. The chemistry is still there between them, but have they grown up enough to accept each other as they are?

This is book 2 in the series, but I haven't read the first book and don't think it mattered.

A short, enjoyable read. Partly set in a great location by the sea, so would be a good holiday read too.

I received an ARC in return for a voluntary and honest review.

What Happens in Summer by Caridad Piñeiro is a sexy, second-chance, feel-good, contemporary romance where you can't help but fall in love with Jonathan Pierce. Gosh, is he sexy?!

I'd been wanting to read Caridad Piñeiro for the longest time and I finally had the opportunity. What Happens in Summer is book 2 of the At The Shore series, but you can read it standalone.

Jon and Connie dated one summer before they had to return to college. Jon has always been an adventurer and a dreamer, while Connie is more down to earth and has every minute of her life planned out or so she thinks. They can't be any more opposites if they tried. A decision Jon makes shakes up Connie to her core and she realizes they can't be together.

Fast-forward several years later when they come face-to-face. I could feel the sparks flying between the two. Now, I have to say, it takes several chapters before you get to the good stuff--meaning, there is backstory and setting of the flow before things between Jonathan and Connie really get going. Those chapters felt a little slow to me, but once they admit they can't deny their feelings anymore, the story picks up the pace.

The sexy times were off the charts. I liked the story but I liked the sex scenes more (hahaha). I thought the author did a nice job of showing the emotions Jon and Connie are going through when they get together. The banter and flirting are nicely built, so when they finally throw caution to the wind, it's fireworks everywhere you look. This is when you just can't put the book down because you want to know what they'll do next.

I enjoyed Jon's character a lot. He was confident and knew exactly what he wanted. Connie, I liked, but she came across a bit too insecure for the empowered woman she was supposed to be. There was no denying the chemistry between the characters though.

I'm positive that fans of Caridad Piñeiro will enjoy this new installment.

What Happens in Summer is Connie and Jonathan’s story. They met and fell in love as young college students who weren’t ready for each other at the time. After meeting again years, they got to know each other again. Both still had issues that the needed to be resolved before they were ready for each other. They worked through their issues so they could have their HEA.

There is a lot of family drama in, What Happens in Summer. But not so much that it ruined the book. Some surprises left me speechless.

Connie Reyes and Jonathan Pierce meet and fall in love while on Summer break from college. They both want to continue their relationship past the summer, but when Jonathan let’s Connie know that he is quitting college to figure out what he wants to do with his life, she dumps him. Fast forward eight years and they are the maid of honor and best man in her best friend and his brothers wedding. Jonathan is a successful businessman (think Elon Musk) and Connie is working in a Manhattan law firm trying to make partner. Both still have feelings for each other, but need to work through their parental abandonment issues to work their way to their happily ever after. This is a nice second chance romance.
I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review of this book.

"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."

Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!

When I picked this book up I was looking forward to a light, easy romance that would make me smile. This book was about romance but I just couldn't find it in myself to like any of the characters...I couldn't connect with any of them. I had a hard time believing the story that was created...I can't quite put my finger on what bothered me but I felt like the flow of the story was very disjointed.

I read book one of this series, so I was excited to see book two available.

What I loved: Hmmm....not entirely sure that I LOVED anything about this. It was a nice story, but I can't say LOVE....enjoyed yes,
What I liked: I really liked this story. It was exactly what I expected and there is nothing wrong with that.
What I hated: This reiterated book one...ALOT. That started to drive me crazy. It was kind of interesting to see the parallel storylines, but it felt like too much rehashing of the first book at times.
Actual Stars....3.75

Many years ago Jonathan Pierce and Connie Reyes had a little teenage fling, they were madly in love one minute, and then they were not the next, and shortly after things fizzled out between them they went their separate ways and they haven't spoken since. But now they find themselves attending the same wedding, and Jonathon would love nothing more than to use the opportunity to show Connie he is a better man, one that will treat her the way he should have treated her back then... but Connie has her reservations about him. He broke her heart once, and she isn't so willing to put it back in his hands again...

What Happens in Summer is a sweet, heartfelt, second chance romance that is sure to have romance readers swooning throughout! With it's drama filled story line, and shore side locale, it makes the perfect summer read! I am a sucker for second chance romances and I have to say this one definitely hit the mark, it was engaging, heartwarming, and left me smiling! Highly recommend!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

This was a rather sweet second-chance romance. The problem I had was that the heroine, Connie Reyes, was rather irritating in her indecision about what she thinks of Jonathan, the guy she’s been in love with since college. But she has been emotionally damaged because her father had abandoned her and her mother when she was a little girl. So she has become rigidly determined to have an organized plan for her life and to avoid someone like Jonathan whom she drops because he doesn’t seem to know what he wants in life as a young man and dropped out of college. He drifted for a while and then became a multi-millionaire. Because, of course he did. He’s a hero in a romance novel.

Then when they meet up later, she falls back in love with him, but is still wary of making it permanent with him because, once again, she’s worried that he isn’t as goal-directed as she is even as she’s pondering leaving her own job. And her big objection to him now - he can’t decide which house he wants to buy in the town he wants to settle down in and is buying a building to move his business to. That just seemed much too tightly wrapped for a person supposedly making mature decisions about her life. I liked Jonathan a whole lot more than her and couldn’t really see what he saw in her.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Jonathan “Jon” Pierce is the black sheep second son of a wealthy family. He is a self-educated inventor, whose invention has made him a multimillionaire. Jonathan decides to put down roots in Sea Kiss, a town along the Jersey Shore, to be near his older brother. Fate throws Connie back into his life, and things escalate fast between them. To pave a future with Connie, he must resolve his issues with both of his parents. Can Jonathan prove to Connie that he is a changed man?
Consuelo “Connie” Reyes is a lawyer at a New York City firm. She behaves amicably around Jonathan for her friend’s happiness before her nuptials to his brother. Connie fears he is not the responsible type; however, she notices the subtle changes in him. Despite her reservations, she decides to give in to their smoldering attraction. When her life plans go awry, another opportunity presents itself. Will Connie change her plans to include Jonathan? Or will their trust issues stand in the way?
Jonathan is a dreamer, always on the move chasing new and exciting adventures. I like how he and Connie are similar yet different. They both share trust issues due to a parent, but their natures are polar opposites. I like how Jonathan matured as he got older. The changes were subtle and his decision instead of being goaded into it. But what I love the most about Jonathan is how he gave Connie space when she desperately needed to sort out her life.
Connie is a practical and level-headed woman, one who is determined not to repeat her mother’s mistakes. I understand Connie’s uncertainties where Jonathan is concerned, but sometimes I feel she allows those fears to color her decisions. I admire how she does not jump willie-nillie into a relationship, especially when neither have yet to resolve their issues with their absentee parent. But what I like the most about Connie is how she impulsively took the initiative to further their relationship at the end.
WHAT HAPPENS IN SUMMER is book two in Caridad Pineiro’s contemporary romance series, AT THE SHORE. I have not read the first book, so I am uncertain if the two stories coincide at the same time because Maggie and Owen’s romance continues in the background. That, however, did not hamper my ability to follow the plot and storyline.
WHAT HAPPENS IN SUMMER is a sweet tale of two wounded souls reconciling their past and trust issues to forge a new future. I am familiar with the author’s paranormal works, so this series is a nice change of pace, especially the light-hearted tone of storytelling. I cannot wait for Emma and Carlo’s story.
