Another Mother is the first book I've read by Amanda James and I can guarantee that I'll be reading more from her.
I knew from the first chapter that I was going to enjoy this book but I didn't quite know how much.

Lu was adopted at birth, but she hasn't yet met her birth mother for fear of upsetting her parents. So when Lu's adopted mum dies in a tragic accident, she decides it's time to get to know her other mother. When Lu finally heads down to Cornwall to meet her, she's surprised to find that her mother isn't what she expected at all and she's not sure if she's made a mistake.

It started pretty slow to be honest, very family drama orientated with not much thrill or suspense then one tiny thing happens and the whole book changes and it becomes a lot more gripping
I was completely sucked in and I felt everything Lu was feeling, I couldn't believe what I was reading half the time.

I saw the end coming quite quickly to be honest, as I'm sure a lot of people did. But it didn't stop me reading and I couldn't wait to see how it got there, but I was quite blown away by the next twist. I definitely didn't see that one coming, and I loved it. It pulled the story together perfectly and left me feeling quite content. A great book for anyone.

Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGaelley for me e-copy of Another Mother in exchange for an honest review.

I received this as an ARC from Bloodhound Books and omg I’m so happy I got to read it! This was a domestic thriller that had you guessing the entire time. It is the story of a girl who decides she wants to reunite with her birth mother and see if she can fill the void of losing her adoptive mother. When she finally reconnects she is over the moon and ready to get a relationship going BUT shortly after meeting she realizes that there seems to be something off with her “mother.” From there she is trying to piece together her mothers past and work with her through the problems buttttt sometimes that’s just not enough!

I highly recommend this to others especially those who love thrillers! The only reason that this did not get a higher rating was simply because there were some points in the book that it got a little boring or just felt like it was repeating. But overall, I enjoyed the writing style of the author, the character development and the plot was intriguing! I will definitely be buying a physical copy and adding to my shelves so I can reread it in the future!

I absolutely loved this book. After the sudden death of her adoptive mother Lu decides its time to meet her birth mother. She travels to St Ives to meet Melwyn, her mother, and starts to discover the truth about her real family.

The initial meeting is good although a little strained and weird at times, but that’s to be expected isn’t it ? Is everything as it seems ? Or is there more that her mother isn’t telling her ?

If you are looking for an action packed thriller then this isn’t for you but if you are wanting a brilliant written psychological thriller then you need to read this book.

I really warmed to Lu and her friend Rosie and was really hoping that everything would turn out good for them both.

This really is a brilliant read and I highly recommend this. It starts out as a family drama but things soon start to take a more sinister twist.

A great psychological book that I struggled to put down, I was gripped.

I loved this book and the twists and turns.

Unfortunately, Another Mother did not hold much appeal for me. The concept is intriguing (daughter reunites with unhinged birth mother after her adoptive mother is killed), but in final form, it is not compelling...nor even very interesting. I did not connect with nor care about the characters, the dialogue was stilted and forced (maybe because it's British?), and "the big reveal" is told after the fact, robbing the reader of the chance to experience any surprise. I love a well written thriller, but for me this did not meet the mark. Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't like this book at all. The story was ok, but I was not a fan of the writing style, which led to not really caring what happened. I was not gripped by the story at all. It was all very clinched. The way the characters spoke was totally unbelievable, Near the beginning of the story Melynn is very well spoken 'I watched leaves float from a tree onto a pond in the garden. Their red and yellow hues muddied....' to nothing but slang and swearing by the end. The story hooked me enough to read to the end, despite wanting to give up half way through. Such a shame as the basis of the plot could have led to a good story.

Another Mother by Amanda James was a psychological thriller that had me hooked from the start. After her adopted mother dies Lu decided to track down her birth mother and find out why she had been put up for adoption. She is delighted to get a reply from her birth mother and travels to Cornwall to meet her. Once there Lu finds that everything is not as it seems and feels confused and unsettled by her birth mothers behaviour. I enjoyed this book and would like to thank NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lu was bullied at school and its left her with a lack of self esteem and lacking in confidence and self worth.

She's always known she was adopted and loved by her parents. When her Mom dies in a road traffic accident, although she adores her Dad, she would very much want to seek out who her biological Mother was. Wanting to know where she came from and her background, why she was adopted.

Jumping ahead;
With her Dad's blessing she travels down to where her birth Mother lives in Cornwall. They agree to meet.

After packing some of her things she decides to stay not with her biological Mother but to pay for somewhere to stay.
She wants to spend some time in Cornwall getting to know her Mother.

The first half of the book is about emotions, getting to know Lu as well as her biological Mother and the woman who has helped her get through the loss of her Mother's death, a neighbour, who has very much become part of Lu's crutch in life.

Lu finds herself confiding in this neighbour when she telephones home one day.

Things started to warm up then that started to earn this book 'psychological thriller' when certain things started to happen. The 'action' starts a little way into the halfway mark which more than whet my appetite to read more.

The climax at the end was more than impressive.

It started out with a feel of Contemporary fiction/family drama but you will see why at you continue your read.

What happened at the beginning certainly impacts on the end.

Fabulous. Another author for me to keep an eye out for more books from her.

My thanks to Bloodhounds for my copy via Net Galley

The subject matter (adult adopted child trying to locate her birth mother) intrigued me. The ending made the book worth reading! The friendships within the book spoke more to me than the other relationships. I had a hard time connecting with the characters. There were twists and turns, however most were predictable.. This was a quick read, would be a good read for vacation or poolside in the summer!

Lucinda discovered at the age of 7 that she was adopted, being adopted has always played a significant role in her life. When her adoptive mother is killed in an accident, she decides the time is right to find her birth mother.

Lucinda discovers her birth mother resides in Cornwall and sets out to meet her. She wants to find out the reasons behind her adoption and hopefully form a relationship. As things develop between the two women, Lucinda is not sure that the reunion is turning out as she had anticipated.

An interesting thriller with several twists and an unexpected ending which was quick and easy to read.

I really wanted to like this story. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into it, it was way to slow for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

A wonderfully intriguing story of two women who feel out of sorts with their lives. Problem is, one is a stone cold killer and the other is the pawn in her ongoing vengeance against those she feels have slighted her along the way. Lu grieves the sudden loss of her adoptive mother on the same day she finally started making a stance for herself. Set on finding her birth mother in the aftermath of her grief, Lu is overly forgiving of the many oddities Mellyn brings to the table. Torn between wanting to help her birth mother and growing concern over Mellyn's increasingly unusual behavior, Lu hesitates to fully confide in her new friends and caring neighbor from back home. But when things turn deadly, Lu finds a safety net stronger than she could have imagined to help her make it through the minefield that she believes her birth mother to be.

What sounded like a brilliant book ended up being a disappointment, I really struggled with this one, it was a really slow moving story especially at the beginning.

Another Mother is a dark and brooding read of which the tension and suspense builds throughout.

Even though set in a wonderful picturesque part of the world, it was difficult at times to appreciate the idyllic setting as the readers thoughts are very much with Lu and her birth mother. What should be a wonderful reunion seemed to be turning sour.

To start with it was lovely to see the pair reunited. The more we get to know Lu’s mother though the uncertainty started to creep in. Things certainly don’t seem to be straight forward and I couldn’t wait to read more to see how things were going to unfold.

Another Mother is certainly a story that draws the reader in and keeps them engrossed until the very last page. Definitely one for lovers who likes there books full of suspense.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. It started a little slow, but quickly picked up. The mystery was semi transparent, but I think that was to throw you off the final twist. Or I've been reading too much of this genre! I found the dialogue to be a little stilted and not quite how we would actually speak.
