I got about 40% through this book and it just wasn't holding my interest. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't hook me like the others in the series. Maybe it was just me. Either way, I just put this one down and said I would get back to it. Every time I tried though, I just wasn't that interested. So, I'm giving it 2 stars because it wasn't a bad story, but something about it was not working for me at all.

These characters have chemistry for days. The hero is an alpha and a half, and yet you can't help but love him. Perfect juxtaposition of sexy jerk and sexy sweet. The heroine is sassy and determined.

A must read!

Dirty Bastard is Knox and Lexi's story. It's a standalone romance with a hint of suspense and a lot of humor.
I enjoyed this book. The characters witty sense of humor and their bantering had me LOLing.
The writing is good and the story flows well. It's told in both Knox and Lexi's POV.

Loved Knox, especially getting to see his vulnerabilities and the way he unfavorably compares himself to his brothers.
Absolutely detested Lexi - which I guess was intentional in the way her character is depicted BUT I really detested her to the point I just couldn't understand Knox's obsession with her or continue reading without wanting to punch her in the face :D

This is the first book I have read by this author. I really wasn't thrilled with the writing style. It was kind of slow and uninteresting, nothing grabbed my attention. I liked the snark of both Lexi and Knox, but the sex talk was ridiculous and not at all sexy. I found myself rolling my eyes at it and skipping over it more than once. Lexi quickly went from quarky to annoying. She needs some major therapy about her inability to commit and that nothing is ever really her fault. So yeah, not my favorite book. Probably will not read this author again.

We first meet Lexi in Dirty Scoundrel and we obviously meet Knox in both of the previous books in this series. Lexi is such a different type of heroine which I adored, and I loved Knox's shit disturbing ways. Knox and Lexi were perfect for one another.

However, Lexi's lack of ability to share her personal life and never let anyone help got a bit annoying at times. This part of the storyline dragged on for me, which was too bad because it was the one thing that lessened the story for me. If Lexi was weird and a kick ass strong heroine than I would have loved it from start to finish. Sadly that wasn't the case this time around.

However, I'm hooked on this series and I can't wait for more.

I really had trouble getting into the book initially and getting caught up in the emotions of the characters. The storyline was good, but it just didn’t stand out in my mind amongst other books in the genre. The blurb was great, but overall the book just fell flat for me.

Dirty Bastard takes place halfway during the events of Dirty Scoundrel, when Clay invites Natalie to swim with his family, she took her best friend for support and a backup plan, but things end up going well for them and they end up together that night. This is where Dirty Bastard starts. Knox, the middle Price bother, meets Lexi Brandon, the strange and odd yoga instructor best friend of Natalie. Knox is different than his brothers, his upbringing was not the best for the first part of his life, but he tries to look at the bright side of life and does this by teasing and messing with the world and his brothers. The two of them click and Knox becomes star struck by Lexi’s personality and odd behaviors, he helps her scare kids near the water and she helps him tease his brothers.

After Clay and Natalie retire for the night to Natalie’s hotel room (which she shares with Lexi), Lexi decides to give her friend some space. All day, sparks have been flying between Knox and Lexi, and now that Lexi needs a place to stay for the night, Knox takes the opportunity to invite her to his hotel room. They have a great night together, sex, give each other their phone numbers, and Knox decides to get to know Lexi better. But life has a different path for them, there is a problem in Lexi’s life that she has been keeping to herself and has not even told Natalie, stressing her daily life. The situation escalates and causes her to lose her purse with all her personal items and phone, making it impossible to contact Knox again. At the same time, the Price family suffers a great loss that hits the brothers so hard that Knox has to step up and help even more with the company and his brothers.

As they start to miss each other after that night almost a month ago, Lexi receives important news that would make her get in touch with Knox again.

I liked Dirty Bastard, it was a good story and I liked both Lexi and Knox. Together they make a fun and entertaining couple that as a reader it made the story better. Separately the characters are interesting and fun, each of them is going through some troubles in life, but still seeks the other person and are able to make something beautiful together.

Spoilers!!! I like the storyline that Lexi had. She has a stalker that has been making her life difficult for the past two years and follows her to her beach getaway with Natalie. I liked how the author wove the main problem (a stalker) into the story, and how she had the characters interact with the stalker. Not all romance novels have a character that is the villain of the story, in some cases it is a financial or legal problem, but from time to time it’s a character that is antagonizing one of the main characters. In the case of Dirty Bastard, we a have a character that is causing problems for Lexi and is making her scared of having a relationship with Knox.

All the books in this series start with “Dirty” and are followed with a word associated with the Price brother story. In this case, for Dirty Bastard, the word “Bastard” has a great significance for Knox and plays a huge role in his personality. Spoilers!!! I liked how the author, Jessica Clare, molded Knox (because of his upbringing and parentage) to not want to pass those same feelings of rejection and separation that he felt when he was young to his future children. I really liked that he wanted to be a good father and have a better family life.

Compared to the other books in the Roughneck Billionaires Knox doesn’t stop for anything when trying to win a girl over, not even money. It was fun to see him try different things to win Lexi over and that he doesn’t care about money but only seeing her smile and be happy. At the same time, I like that we see the Price brothers make other investments outside the Oiling company, even if it is just to destroy an enemy.

The only problem that I had was that I was expecting a more intense confrontation with Lexi’s stalker. I know this is a Romance genre book, but I felt that the story was moving to something more dangerous for Lexi or maybe Knox. It was a good scene and I liked how Knox handled it, but for some reason, I was expecting more.

It seems that the same way this story started, one of the other brother meets his love interest during the story of the other brother, would happen again. We only have Gabe left, but during this story, he has changed in character and it seems it would be because of his future love interest.

If you are a fan of Jessica Clare or any of her other works, then I recommend Dirty Bastard. In this book, the oddest people meet, they are able to find a happiness with each other that they didn’t know they were missing, even if it starts by scaring children at the beach.

I really enjoyed Knox and Lexi. I loved their quirkiness and love of messing with people. Lexi was a bit frustrating at times, but Knox stole my heart. I adored the unwavering love he had for Lexi, even when she was doing her best to push him away.

From the onset this was a story that drew me in and kept me engaged and emotionally invested in the characters. As the story unfolded the author painted such a clear picture of Lexi, that it was not difficult to delve into her mindset and understand her better. Her super wry wit and caustic banter was laugh out loud hilarious, though done through her goth persona it only served to add layers on to her personality.

The author's protrayal of the Price brothers and their relationship was heartwarming, yet at one point heartbreaking. The humor and banter between Knox and his brothers was enjoyably entertaining, the saying, "Boys will be boys" was front and center.

This was one of the most satisfying HEA's I've read, and since there is still a wealth of story left to tell about the Price brothers and I look forward to what is store next.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

DIRTY BASTARD is the third book in Jessica Clare's Roughneck Billionaires series. DIRTY BASTARD runs concurrently with some of the events in the previous Roughneck Billionaires book. Lexi Brandon has some highly pressing matters to attend to -- her dismal financial situation, and a stalker that she can't seem to shake. Even though she has problems of her own, Lexi is also trying to be a supportive friend as her BFF Natalie reconnects with a lost love. Falling for a rough and tumble Texas billionaire and getting knocked up didn't factor anywhere in her life plan, but that's what happened. Jessica Clare does a phenomenal job of telling a story with an inconvenient yet charming romance and balances the drama with moments of whimsy.

Knox Price is not your average sports car-driving, shallow, billionaire who is content to have a model on his arm. Knox and his brothers grew up without a lot of money and working the oil fields as they got older to make a living. Now that the Price brothers have a nice chunk of change, the majority of the women they attract are mainly interested in what's in their bank account. Although a few of his brothers are happy to indulge attractive gold diggers for a good time, Knox wants a woman with a little more substance who can stir his interest. Lexi interests him. Lexi is not in awe of the Price brothers' wealth and her eccentricities and nonconformist ways fascinate Knox and get him hot. Jessica Clare tells this love story from both perspectives, giving the reader a greater insight into each of the main characters. Lexi is a snarky and quirky character who is an oddball to some, but I find her interesting, sympathetic, and real. Knox is a rough and tumble kind of guy who is sensitive enough, and cares enough about his woman to tailor his courtship specifically to her unique personality and desires. A date spent overnight in a haunted hotel makes a dream date for Lexi and endears this hero to readers.

DIRTY BASTARD is a spectacular and stimulating character- driven romance. The stalker aspect of this story strikes a serious note, but I like the realistic way Jessica Clare depicts a victim of stalking. Like many women, Lexi is smart and capable and thinks that having a stalker is something that she can handle on her own, without getting her friends pulled into her problems. She's wrong to think that her problem will just go away, or that she doesn't need help, but real people rarely handle moments of crisis perfectly, and Lexi is no different. I can't wait for Jessica Clare's next sizzling romance!

Dirty Bastard by Jessica Clare
Knox & Lexi
I KEEP FALLING IN LOVE WITH THESE GUYS
5 Stars

Wow… I mean… WOW!! These Roughneck Billionaire boys just keep getting hotter and hotter. Just when you think you know them and what they’ll do, they surprise you. I don’t know whether to scratch my watch or wind my butt!

Knox is your discreet, prankster type. He’ll put ketchup in your beer and sit back and patiently wait the show. He’s wise to the gold digging women out there and prefers his life to be as uncomplicated as possible. Wait till he meets Lexi, shit’s about to get real.

Lexi (short for Meredith – lmao) is yoga instructor. A good one, but business isn’t always so “busy.” Maybe it’s her “charming” personality. She’s a recluse and prefers her solitary lifestyle. Don’t mistake me; even though she’s a hermit, her one liners and zingers are amazing… she made me laugh out loud multiple times.

The best part about this story is that it has all the elements to perfectly round it out. There’s suspense, love, sex, humor, and the writing style is flawless. The pacing is fast, the dialogue flows nicely, and the characters are entertaining. I loved it!

I loved that Knox and Lexi are both different kinds of heroes/heroines. Romantic heroes are usually perfect, with no flaws and few quirks, they are the "ideal" of romantic heroes and heroines are thin, and pretty, and perfect.

Lexi is quirky. She is a yoga teacher, her studio isn't successful, she dresses in all black, is intentionally off putting to men, forgetful (at times and about certain important things)...oh, and she has a stalker.

Knox is a billionaire who still lives in a trailer and who thinks the fancy house his brother bought for his wife isn't really necessary.

So, together, they are an unlikely pair. And, they are perfect. And, Knox knows this. Lexi, well, she takes a little convincing, and an accidental pregnancy.

I loved how convinced he was that they were perfect for one another, and that he was pretty much willing to hang around until she figured it out. It takes her a bit, and it takes her realizing that Knox was serious about how he felt, for her to decide that maybe the billionaire in a trailer is her happily ever after.

I recommend this title.

Knox and Lexi are the BEST! I love this rough cowboy billionaire and his goth woman! I wanted to smack her for trying to take care of her problem all on her own, but I just loved the two of them two much to hold a grudge. He is amazing and just the right amount of sweet mixed with all of that sexy! A great read!

3.5 stars--DIRTY BASTARD is the third instalment in Jessica Clare’s contemporary, adult ROUGHNECK BILLIONAIRES erotic, romance series focusing on the rags to riches Price Brothers of Texas-Boone, Clay, Gage, Knox and Seth. This is billionaire oil-man Knox Price, and yoga instructor Lexi Brandon’s story line. DIRTY BASTARD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Some of the story line premise crosses-over and runs parallel to some of the events in book two DIRTY SCOUNDREL

Told from dual first person points of view (Knox and Lexi) DIRTY BASTARD follows the building relationship between billionaire oil-man Knox Price, and yoga instructor Lexi Brandon. At a get together with his brothers at Ivy and Boone’s (Dirty Money #1) Knox Price will come face to face with his future, a woman who defies his expectations and type but a woman whose secrets run deep and disturbing. Enter Lexi Brandon, the woman with whom Knox will fall in love but a woman who refuses to acknowledge a troubling threat.

Lexi Brandon is a bit of a quirky heroine who doesn’t want to draw attention to herself or her life. Ascerbic and ill-tempered, most people run rather than face our storyline heroine head ob. Knox considers himself the family ‘bastard’ but most woman tend to throw themselves at the Price brothers due to their billionaire status as rich and available until meeting Lexi Brandon-a woman who did not want anything from the almighty Knox.

The relationship between Lexi and Knox is one of immediate attraction for our story line hero but Lexi has some issues that need to be addressed. Surly and combative Lexi’s need to be independent is both a threat and a hindrance to her personal safety. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate but once again, I struggle with the use of a certain four-letter word I feel is unnecessary in a romance story line.

The secondary and supporting characters include all of Knox’s brothers, their significant others (where revealed) as well as the small-minded and nosy people of a tiny town where everyone knows your name.

DIRTY BASTARD was a bit of struggle in that our heroine has a bit of a TSTL (too stupid to live) complex. Her inability or reluctance to ask for help is a struggle not only for the heroine but for this reader as well. When unwanted and unrequested help finally comes through Lexi runs as though the help is worse than the potential harm. The premise is engaging; the characters are colorful and dynamic but I struggled with the heroine’s personality and behavior; the romance is intimate and seductive.

Enjoyable read. But lots of ups and downs trying to enjoy the heroine in this story. The men are very alpha and I love that. While I love this authors work, this one just fell as little flat for me

My love of rough and tumble heroes continues with Jessica Clare’s newest book, Dirty Bastard, the third book in her Roughneck Billionaires series. Whenever a new Jessica Clare book appears on my Kindle, I just about jump up and down. She’s just one of those writers that I connect with.

This is the story of Knox Price and Lexi Brandon. They were introduced in the second book in the series, Dirty Scoundrel. Well, this time it’s all Lexi and Knox. They are quite the odd pairing in some ways, but in others they fit together really well.

Knox considers himself the odd man out in his family. While he loves his brothers, he isn’t super close to any of them. And with the recent death of his youngest brother, well Knox finds his foundations shaken to their core. Meeting Lexi during a family tubing trip provided him with more enjoyment and pleasure than any of his usual life choices. Though Lexi is a bit older than him, he does not care one bit. And well, Lexi’s world is kind of falling apart around her too so she is throwing caution to the wind and taking Knox to bed.

Only, even though Lexi thought she was protected, it turns out she was not. And now she is pregnant. And her yoga studio in her small town is failing and oh yeah, she’s got a stalker in a local firefighter who won’t leave her alone. Adding a pregnancy on top of all of that is exhausting but Lexi knows she wants to keep the baby.

And when Knox finds out? Well he knows he is more sure than ever that Lexi is destined to be with him. He just has to convince her.

Lexi and Knox are dramatically different from the previous couples in this series. For starters, there seems to be a bit more drama around them, drama neither of them wants. Also, they are virtual strangers but somehow they feel a deep connection to each other. Lexi feels a bit adrift lately. Her best friend recently got married and moved away. Her yoga studio, which she loves, isn’t doing so well. Lexi isn’t much of a people person unfortunately. (This made me really connect with her, FYI. I too am not much of a people person.) In Lexi, Knox sees a kindred soul.

As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed the sexy times. Jessica Clare is no slacker when it comes to bedroom scenes. But all in all, it is the clashing yet equally matching personalities of Knox and Lexi that kept me invested in the story. I really adored how hard Knox fell for Lexi. It’s a bit insta-love but I went with it. My one small qualm is that I wish Lexi hadn’t tried to handle her stalker on her own. I know she felt isolated given that this man knew police officers and firefighters who would back him up rather than Lexi but I genuinely felt scared for her. So, I wish that storyline had been handled a bit differently.

But all in all, when it comes to true love and two characters clashing, Lexi and Knox definitely kept me intrigued and eager to see the conclusion to their love story.

Dirty Bastard is available today!

“You don’t have to be good at all relationships. You just have to be good at one of them.”

I find myself a little conflicted in the wake of Jessica Clare’s Dirty Bastard. I want to tell you that I loved it—and I did, in many ways—but I also had some misgivings, which became more apparent after I closed the book.

First, though, it has to be said that Knox Price is book boyfriend perfection. He’s funny and quirky, alpha enough to make a girl swoon but understanding of a woman’s need for independence, and he’s kind. I loved him—and he’s easily my favorite brother in this series so far.

On the other hand, Lexi was, at times, frustrating. Her decision-making was flawed—and the flaws ran a little too deep for me to be able to sympathize with. I enjoyed that she was a little left of center, but found it hard to connect with her. And, honestly, it bothered me more than I realized while reading.

However, when I was reading, I loved this book. Lexi and Knox's relationship was so fun, and their circumstances gave me ample reason to check my ovaries for unexpected explosions. And these brothers! Oh, they are totally endearing and that makes the books endearing, too. I had hoped we’d touch a little more on the events surrounding Seth, however, there’s more to come from these Roughneck Billionaires, so I’m hoping that will be revisited again.

Until then, I’ll just be there, swooning for Knox Price.

“How do you move on from your arm? Or your leg? Or half your heart? You can’t. You just do the best you can with the pieces you got left.”

~ FOUR STARS ~

While there were parts of this story that I thought were cute and entertaining, I found myself so distracted by the elements that irritated me that I had trouble truly enjoying myself.

In Dirty Bastard, we meet Knox Price. One of several brothers that have come into money, yet refuse to let it change them or their redneck ways. Because why give up living in a tiny trailer or drinking nasty cheap beer just because you can afford more? Knox is one of the more reserved brothers, observing and contemplating what goes on around him. Like how his brothers react to his juvenile jokes. At a party by the river one night, he meets Lexi, the most unlikely of heroines. She’s goth and dark, despite her penchant for yoga, and repeated claims to have a hobby of scaring little kids, although there was no proof of this pastime. But despite her oddness, for the most part I didn’t dislike her. She didn’t care what others thought, she was strong, and she wasn’t about to just fall head over heels for the first guy to come along and take her out of a bad situation.

But when an unexpected pregnancy occurs, Knox comes running back to step up to the plate and prove that despite the five year age gap that Lexi keeps throwing at him, he’s ready to be a father and husband.

I didn’t dislike the characters in this story. They were cute, if not both juvenile on their own, but they fit well together. My frustration with the story stemmed from my inability to find Lexi realistic. She is a strong woman but can’t stand up to her stalker. She obviously willing to ask for help from the police, evidenced by repeated attempts to report him even though they don’t believe her. But she doesn’t want assistance from friends or Knox, the people that would? It makes more sense to pick up and move your whole life than ask the right people for help? The device in the story that was supposed to the pivot point causing so many of the other actions just didn’t come across as believable to me. Its resolution was too quick and anticlimactic as well.

As a reader coming in on this third book in the series, I also had some problems with the other characters and their timelines. I felt as if the author was trying to position some of the storylines happening contemporaneously, but without knowing exactly what was going on with their stories, keeping me abreast of what was happening with them just felt unnecessary.

The writing by this new to me author was cute and light and fun. But I just didn’t find the characters or the storyline believable.

While both of the main characters are complex, the story flows perfectly. I would have loved for these two to have a longer story or even a second book, but look forward to the younger brother’s adventure next that was hinted at. This series needs to be read in order, as some do the storyline overlaps from one book to the next with the timing and events. Great read!
