I have chosen not to finish or review this title. As always, I appreciate the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. Unfortunately, I am not able to rate the book favorably and have chosen to leave the book unfinished.
Thank you,
Laura

I am still rolling in royal fever so a royal romance is right up my alley. This one is all sexiness and fun. I loved it.

My Royal Sin by Riley Pine
Book Two of the Arrogant Heirs series
Publisher: Harlequin Dare
Publication Date: June 1, 2018
Rating: 3 stars
Source: eARC from NetGalley

Summary (from Goodreads):

She’s totally off-limits…
…which makes her even more irresistible!

Famed for his iron control, Prince Benedict is unprepared for the chemistry that ricochets through him when he meets Ruby. She is temptation personified…but couldn’t be more inappropriate for a royal fling! Except after years of choosing duty over desire, his control has finally snapped—he’s choosing pleasure, of the most X-rated kind. After all, if he’s going to indulge in the forbidden, the higher the stakes, the greater the thrill!

What I Liked:

I read My Royal Temptation a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I didn't know the book would be part of a series, so I was really surprised and very pleased to find out about My Royal Sin and My Royal Hook-Up. While I didn't totally dislike this new book, I think my expectations had been a little too high, and I felt a little disappointed. Still, it was a fairly decent companion sequel.

Benedict is the second son of the king, the spare heir, the one destined for priesthood. There are only a few weeks before he takes his vows and becomes a priest. But no one knows what goes on in Benedict's head - like how fascinated he is by desire and pleasure, and how much he wishes he could give in to temptation. It only gets harder to resist when a mysterious woman named Ruby shows up to seduce. Ruby - Evangeline - was set to seduce Prince Benedict and find a painting he owns. She doesn't expect him to be quite so tempting himself - or for her to fall in love with him.

It was an interesting struggle, with a priest-bound hero and a seductress heroine. Two opposites, both struggling with their lives. Evangeline isn't an escort - she's a struggling artist trying to provide for her sister-in-law and niece while her brother is in prison. She is given a job to seduce Prince Benedict, and she takes the job because she needs the money. Evangeline has never done anything of the sort, but she's desperate, and she'll do anything for her family.

Benedict has always struggled with his desires. He is determined to see his duty through, but he has always wanted to experience a great manner of things with a woman. And when Evangeline shows up, he knows she has an ulterior motive, but he doesn't want to resist her. Benedict is a good guy. I felt for him, and I understood his willpower in trying to fulfill his duty.

These two are a good pair. They learn to trust each other quickly, and they fall for each other. They are very compatible in other ways - the chemistry is there from the start.

I like that there is something more than the romance going on in this book. It's not something you'd expect, so I won't go into details, but think secret societies and hidden treasures. Definitely makes the story even more interesting.

There is a happy ending! I always love those.

What I Did Not Like:

I think my expectations were a little too high, in terms of the sexy times. I soooo expect more sex, and the sex to be more x-rated (as implied by the synopsis). A virgin priest with a dirty mind and a novice seductress? That should have made for a combustible pair. And believe me, Benedict was ready for some dirty action. He is well-read in terms of pleasure and Evangeline is perfect for him. But I found the sexy times lacking - there weren't enough scenes, and the few that were there weren't particular hot - like, not more so. It was a little disappointing! This is supposed to be Harlequin's hottest line yet, AND here we have a priest with a filthy mind - come on! I expected more.

Would I Recommend It:

I recommend book one, and honestly this one isn't too bad so I'd recommend this one too. I think my own expectations had been high, so I felt a little let down, but if you don't have expectations for this book, then you won't be disappointed. It's hot, just not as hot as I was expecting. And the romance is also kind of sweet. This is a short, quick read, so there's low commitment!

Rating:

3 stars. Despite this slightly low rating, I did enjoy the book, and I am looking forward to reading the next one. I love the idea behind this series and I'm so curious to see what kind of man the hero of the next book is.

MY ROYAL SIN – Riley Pine
Arrogant Heirs, Book 2
Harlequin Dare
ISBN: 978-1-488-08252-8
June 2018
Contemporary Series Romance

Kingdom of Edenvale – Present Day

Prince Benedict is following what he considers his father’s wishes by entering the priesthood, with one more month to go before he takes his final vows. A woman arrives at the castle and offers herself to him. Benedict’s vows to God are powerful enough to not give in, but the woman, Evangeline Vernazza, intrigues him. He invites her to stay with him at the palace, where he would pay her triple what she normally receives as a whore so that he can have his way with her except for the completion of the sex act. Is Benedict playing with fire?

Evangeline isn’t really a whore but was sent by a group under threat of her family losing their lives and her mission is to obtain a long-lost map to an eternal spring that is believed to be somewhere inside the castle. Of course, she can’t tell Benedict the real reason she’s there because if it’s revealed, her family will die. In MY ROYAL SIN, there is plenty of heavy foreplay as Benedict enjoys Evangeline’s body—though they don’t complete the sexual act…at least at first.

MY ROYAL SIN is connected to MY ROYAL TEMPTATION but is a complete standalone in the Arrogant Heirs series. Benedict has suffered mental anguish knowing he isn’t his father’s real son as his mother slept with another man. For this reason, he follows what he believes is his father’s wishes to enter the priesthood so that he can be pushed aside silently into the background. The entrance of Evangeline into his life has Benedict fighting the battle inside him to remain faithful to God or to give into the lust he feels for her. He’ll have a little “fun” with her until he has to leave for the seminary.

But Evangeline has a lot of problems that will have her choosing her family or being honest to Benedict. With her brother in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and the threat of his death and that of his family over her head, she is caught between what is right and wrong. Their attraction is intense and smoking hot—and readers know that soon Benedict will be unable to resist the temptation to finally consummate their relationship.

MY ROYAL SIN is a bit dark and convoluted with the tale of the map and the people who are coercing Evangeline, and things move slowly at first. But about halfway through, the action kicks up and the story moves at a fast break pace. Even as Evangeline and Benedict solve the mystery of the map and get her family rescued, it’s apparent that he will soon have to make a decision over whether to remain with her or complete his commitment to God. What is his answer? Find out in the sizzling MY ROYAL SIN.

I don't know if it was because the main character is a soon to be priest or what but I couldn't get into this romance. Benedict is due to take his final vows in a month but he can't stop thinking about sex. Ruby has been sent to him to get information for her madam. He decides to keep Ruby around to tempt him so he can prove he is strong enough to take his vows. So so

My Royal Sin is an odd mix of current and medieval story telling. I couldn't seem to find anything exciting, trilling or interesting about the character. You knew from the beginning they were going to have sex it wasn't a mystery or even a slow romance it was SEX bam!
The story is boring, the characters are flat, and "Erotic or Sex" part of the story which is 90% has zero fire for this reader. I found I couldn't invested in this story because it play like a 1970 porno.
thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy

This might be 12 years of Catholic school talking,.... I can't even find the right words to review this book. I have tried to write something for 2 days and can't. Just not for me. That is how I will leave it.

Whew that was naughty! I would recommend this to readers looking for their next "sexy priest" erotic romance in the vein of Sierra Simone's Priest. A quick, dirty read that hits the mark the imprint is looking to make.

This series has totally captivated me and I needed Benedict's story like I needed my next breath. They are uber sexy, but romantic too and that continuing mystery is going to do me in! I'm pretty sure I know what's going on, but I just want to KNOW! Can't wait for the next one (and maybe my answer, because X seriously needs his own book too)!
