The book offers whole range of beautiful desserts, perfect for any birthday party straight out of a fairy tale! The only thing the inside of the book can be compared to is the explosion of colors. The book includes recipes for birthday cakes, cookies, smoothies and lots more! Perfect for all the princesses out there!

Charming, magical deliciousness for the whole family. My only critique is I wish the recipes included conversions for the ingredients.

Cute ideas! Print was too jumbled to read clearly in the reader, but cool ideas for unicorn goodies!

Unicorn Food is a cute little recipe book that contains a number of recipes that use natural plant based colours to brighten up the food.

I was expecting to just see sweet recipes, so was surprised to discover 8 savoury ones available, though some are simple such as a veggie rainbow sandwich.

There are 24 recipes in the sweet section including one that made me smile - unicorn poop! With that in mind this would make a great book to use for a children's party.

Each recipe comes with easy to follow instructions and a colour photograph. The measurements are in metric terms.

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

The food and the pictures in this cookbook are amazing! My young children were extremely excited to be my guinea pigs for the testing of these recipes. If I had any issues with the recipes it would be how many of them call for the use of dyes. Even using natural dyes I felt was a little overused, I would have liked to see more recipes using food to create the colouring.

I requested two different books with the same title of Unicorn Food at the same time. The first was a vegan cookbook. This is a cookbook of confectionaries/desserts/drinks made with colorful plant-based food colorings.

There are beautiful photos that go with each recipe, which is a definite must for me! I really dislike a cookbook when I can't see what every recipe supposed to look like. That said, I have to deliver a couple of caveats:

1. All of the measurements are in metric, and the names of some items may be unfamiliar to American readers (such as caster sugar) so US bakers will need to adjust accordingly. Knowing this going in is crucial, as nothing is more annoying than thinking you've got the right amount of time to make something in the kitchen only to discover you need to take time to adjust measurements. Give yourself a few extra minutes and you'll be just fine.

2. In the introduction the author is clear that no artificial food colorings are used in any of the recipes. However, items like colored baking melts and grenadine are usually made with artificial food colorings. For the baker who is adamant to not use artificial food colorings, you're going to have to get creative.

3. There's no lead-in to any of the recipes. Some cookbooks go overboard with explaining why and how they developed each recipe, but having no context was also a little bit jarring. These lead-ins will also offer substitutes for ingredients or lack of a certain type of cooking instrument, which can be a necessity. It's just a personal preference of mine, but it's worth noting in case it's also a personal preference of yours.

Overall the recipes in this book were pretty straightforward and appeared relatively easy to make. Just be sure you know going in what you're going to get and you should be able to whip up these adorable and colorful unicorn foods with ease!

Definitely a trend driven book. Cute but underwhelming recipes and pretty limited. Excellent photography though!

Very creative unicorn inspired recipes. I would have loved to have had this book before hosting two unicorn parties.

Cute, sweet, and relatively short! This book's only major fault is that is could be longer. Full of both a combo of basic lunch recipes and mostly treats, this book focuses on color and fun! If you're looking to throw a unicorn themed bash, this would be a great place to start.

A note to all those considering purchase, this book uses UK measurements, you will need a scale.

A beautiful book of recipes. Natural ways of creating pretty, colourful and appetising looking food. There is a mixture of simple and more complicated recipes so anyone can find something to make.

The introduction to Unicorn Food describes the colorful world which they are attempting to create with the recipes from this cookbook. A balanced, colorful rainbow of food which will delight the eye while providing healthy eating, is the aim.

All of the recipes in the book recommend natural food coloring. Specialty cake shops carry natural food colorings. To make your own, use the provided list of the various foods which can create natural colors.

The recipes in this book are divided into two categories, Savory and Sweet. Each recipe includes the Prep time and Servings along with the ingredients and instructions.

With only 32 recipes in the book, it is short but sweet. It does cover a variety of different types of recipes giving an excellent selection.

Whimsical But Practical Recipes

The recipes throughout are whimsical but practical, there seems to be a rainbow-infused recipe for every occasion. I like the idea of using the natural food colorings or actual food to create the color rather than artificial dyes.

While not a children’s recipe book, I believe many of these recipes would be a huge hit at a unicorn themed kids party. That being said, Husband is insisting we make the Croque-Unicorn for Sunday brunch.

All of the ingredients seem to be very straightforward and easily sourced. I think this book has an excellent collection of imaginative recipes that everyone will enjoy.

This is a lovely little cookbook filled with lots of really colourful recipes. What I really enjoyed was that not all the recipes are sweet. The rainbow cheese toastie is particularly interesting and definitely one that must be tried!

The unicorn ice cream has been a real hit in our household easy to make and really delicious!

Enjoyed this eBook so much that I ordered a physical copy to add to my collection

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

🦄 Happy Unicorn Day! 🦄

Despite its promising title, Unicorn Food is not a book of recipes to help you feed your unicorn a nutritionally balanced diet, nor does it contain recipes that include unicorns as an ingredient. It’s okay! You don’t need to retrieve your pitchfork! There’s not a single unicorn listed in the ingredients of this book! 😜

Instead you will get to marvel at some of the most beautiful food you’ve ever seen. Using natural food colourings like juices, spices or natural powdered food colourings that you can purchase from speciality cake decorating stores or our good friend, the Internet, you won’t find preservatives in any of the sweet or savoury delights in this book.

You’ll find such yummies as unicorn poop (pretty little rainbow meringues), unicorn maki rolls, unicorn noodle bowls with the most extraordinary purple and blue noodles, crogue-unicorn (toasted cheese sandwiches with 4 colours in the cheese), and blueberry galaxy cupcakes. I already thought donuts were out of this world but there’s even a recipe for cosmic donuts, which include edible silver glitter and bright blue icing!

I’m fairly certain that I’ll be indulging in swirly pastel unicorn cheesecake in the near future. I can also guarantee that I will never attempt the unicorn cake with a starring role on the cover of this book. I can only imagine the epic fail that would be the result of me attempting to replicate this one. However if someone would like to volunteer to make one for me I won’t object.

The photography in this book is sufficiently droolworthy and if you’re my kind of chef it will show you the hilarious difference between what the food was supposed to look like and what your talent for disaster has actually whipped up. I expect the recipes in this book will wind up featuring at many parties in the near future.

Thank you very much to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry for the opportunity to be one of the first to drool over this book.

Rather a colourful book, the cakes and party food would delight any child - The savoury samples did not inspire me, especially rainbow melted cheese sandwich, but maybe the kids would love it. The food colouring can be home made from natural ingredients (instructions given) but store bought can also we used. Nice ideas, such as the unicorn cake and the colourful swiss roll, the young girls would particularly love them. The recipes are easy to make and easy to follow, a fun book.

The colors and photography in this book are fabulous. Gorgeous visuals. The recipes are creative, but I don't necessarily see myself putting out the effort to recreate any of them. Definitely not for the kitchen beginner!! Neat concept, though.

With all the unicorn craze this book is sure to satisfy many readers. We have several instagram worthy recipes. Some popular recipes such as Croque- Unicorn (rainbow grilled cheese sandwich) and Mermaid Toast. Each recipe has a full color image to go along with it including great detailed instructions and a separate ingredients list. Most the recipes look relatively healthy as well!

This book is a lot of fun to look out, and the recipes seem tasty. But that much food coloring could be interesting. I can see the benefit of telling a kid it’s unicorn food, but I think getting them to eat a blue protein bowl might be hard. Or the unicorn sandwich of veggies stuffed between crackers. A short, enjoyable, and easy cookbook, but one that will fall to the wayside with age.

There is a variety of foods from salads to savoury sandwiches to wonderously colourful desserts. This is a must buy for all unicorn and rainbows fan who wanna embrace these and incorporate it into your cooking.
