As a fan of Colleen Coble, I was eager to read this book. I should note that I did not read the first book in the series – The View from Rainshadow Bay. However, it was easy to jump into and enjoyable. The book has a lot of characters but fortunately it wasn’t too difficult to keep track of them. Without giving too much away, it was a good book with a nice plot twist. If you are a fan of Colleen Coble, I highly recommend this book. Now I have to read the first one!!

I’m not a huge fan of Coble’s style of introducing several characters at once or stating their hair and eye-color when they enter a scene. Some of the extra details detracted from the flow of the story. (Like mentioning the two dogs and a cat by name.) I felt the secondary characters could have been developed more, but they weren’t prominent to the storyline. The plot wasn’t realistic to me, but it is fiction, after all. Still, I give this book four stars.

I enjoyed the setting and unique plot of this suspense. The characters are quite likable—except for the bad guys. There was a sideline about Grayson’s past that added a lot of emotional interest to the story. I liked the way the author tied the main characters together via Ellie’s friend. Coble threw in enough happenings and twists to keep the plot moving at a good pace. The story never felt redundant. A couple of times, I was thrown terribly off-course in guessing the culprit. I can honestly say I was entertained from beginning to end. Even though there was a romance involved, this story would appeal to men as well as women.

I really enjoy clean Christian fiction. It is so refreshing to read good fiction without vulgar language or explicit sex scenes. This book’s focus is not about faith. In fact, the religious element in this story is almost non-existent, so secular readers will not have to roll their eyes. (Wink) I enjoyed this story enough to buy another of this author’s books for my TBR stack.

Really good story.

I loved how Coble is mixing all her stories together. Pretty much all the characters from book one are back, including Shauna and Zach. They go to Hope Beach in search of Shauna's brother. Connor, now Grayson Bradshaw, is stunned to learn he was adopted. The news comes as just he is about to head to, of all places, Lavender Tides for his work as a Coast Guard Investigator. Bewildered and sort of hurt, Grayson leaves to investigate missing cocaine.

Ellie Blackmore is a carpenter. With her partner and brother-in-law, Jason, she restores houses and sells them. When her sister, Mackenzie, goes missing under suspicious circumstances, Ellie's path crosses with Grayson's investigation. Grayson believes Mackenzie is up to her neck in the theft of the cocaine and Ellie is equally convinced that her sister would never to something like that. Who is right?

Evidence mounts that Mackenzie really is indeed involved and Ellie is stunned. Something doesn't add up. This is so unlike her sister. The more she learns about Mac's activities in the past few weeks, the more it seems like she never knew her sister.

Things get crazy and Ellie's life is threatened. Grayson isn't going to let anything happen to her; not on his watch. In the midst of his investigation into the cocaine, keeping Ellie safe, looking for Mac, and getting to know his new-found family, Grayson is having trouble sorting everything out.

I never guessed the villain. Well, I sort of thought that <spoiler>Isaac</spoiler> was involved, but not the mastermind. And the lady at the estate sale was probably <spoiler>Hyun</spoiler>. The mah-jong tiles were a very interesting angle.

This isn't super unusual in this genre of book, but I really appreciate how the couple doesn't end up engaged after just knowing each other a few weeks (or even days). I like how they acknowledge their attraction and want to "see where things go". It's refreshing and much more realistic and relatable. (Not that I'm all about realism in stories, but still).

Can't wait to read book three and maybe actually go back to Rock Harbor????

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, atmosphere, and characters. I would recommend the book to friends and family for their reading pleasure.

This is the second book in the Rainshadow Bay series, so I missed some of the story line with characters that appeared in this novel (I haven’t read the first book). This story follows Ellie Blackmore, a house flipper, whose sister goes missing, and Grayson, the investigator looking into Ellie’s sister’s involvement in another crime.
There are a lot of questions and trails to follow in this story line, as well as characters that seem insignificant at first. The sheer number of characters is difficult to keep track of since they are in and out of scenes throughout the book. When I got to the end of the book and it was revealed who the real mastermind behind the mystery was, I had no idea who he was and had to flip back in the book to remind myself of his introductory role in the novel.
The dialogue between characters feels really plastic and is mostly to the point without elaboration or subtext (i.e. a character suggests something and the other one agrees without hesitation). There are moments where things just happen that don’t seem quite right or are too coincidental to be believable (i.e. a group of teenage boys offer up information to Gray who doesn’t even show his credentials about a terrorist that is well known in their neighborhood without hesitation even though it’s obvious that it’s a dangerous thing to do; a group of co-workers of the missing sister are having a conversation about her disappearance and who they think did it and why while Gray is sitting at a table next to them in the restaurant). And it’s also hard to believe that Ellie plays a significant role in solving the mystery of her sister’s disappearance, involvement with North Korea/ISIS while the FBI supposedly, and the Coast Guard have been working on the case for months. It’s a bit of a stretch in my opinion.
There are great moments of suspense and the reader is left wondering for a good chunk of the book what really happened to Mac, the sister of Ellie. There is a bit of romance sprinkled in but it’s not the main focus of the story. The pacing was well done. Some reference to church and God was made throughout but faith didn’t play a central role for our main characters, it was more concern (and guilt over the passing of another sister) for Ellie’s sister that drove her to find her and to believe that she wasn’t dead. Gray was just doing his job in trying to track information down.
A few subplots added a bit of variety in the story, dealing with personal issues for Gray.
Even though there were unrealistic moments and plastic dialogue I still enjoyed reading this novel by Colleen Coble.

I really enjoyed this book and never imagined the reason behind Mackenzie's disappearnace. I read this without reading "The View from Rainshadow Bay," the first book in the Lavender Tides series. I wasn't confused but now I can't wait to read it or the next book in the series. This book is a mystery with a little romance thrown in.

Ellie is a house flipper and her business partner happens to be her sister's ex-husband. Ellie's sister, Mackenzie, is a professor at the local college and teaches Asian languages. Mac disappears and is presumed dead due to all the blood found on the deck of her tall ship. Grayson Bradshaw with the Coast Guard Investigative Services ends up on assignment in Lavender Tides to find out what happened to a missing shipment of cocaine. His appearance occurs at the same time Mac went missing and Grayson knows she is behind the stolen cocaine. Ellie and Grayson start working together to find out what really happened to Mac.

There are so many twists and turns. I enjoyed the story and characters (there's a lot of them). There's long lost brothers being found and possibly a sister. My least favorite person was Mackenzie. She is the reason people were put in so much danger, especially her sister. She was jealous of her sister and wanted the attention. Ellie and Grayson were quite harsh to Jason while he was in the hospital. He risked his life for Ellie, Grayson and Mac. He justified to feel angry with his situation and he found out that his wife didn't even love him while they were married. He tried to tell Ellie about the real Mac, but she never listened and always defended her.

Overall, a good book with storyline I didn't see coming. I definitely recommend the book and I need to read the first one.

Good suspense, but there are so many characters it can be confusing. Characters that I thought were minor ended up being important later in the book. I had to go back and figure out how they first entered the story. It was good, but I’ve enjoyed other Colleen Conley books more.

I love reading Colleen Coble’s books. Ms Coble writes light Christian, suspenseful, romance stories.

I did find that the book contained many characters, some who I thought were not important when they were first introduced in the book. Probably because they were not well developed. Then towards the end when these characters were drawn back into the story again I would have to do a search on my kindle to find out who they were. That was confusing and annoying for me although it might not be for others. Especially when you don’t want to stop reading. 😊

I also found that this book didn’t contain as much reference to God as her other books have. I was expecting God-loving characters, references to verses, etc. That’s just me personally.

The book was still very suspenseful with lots of twists and turns. I did enjoy it but probably would have enjoyed it much more if it hadn’t been for the character issues.

Scary good!

With a web of danger as tangled as last year's Christmas lights, Colleen Coble again delivers another cast of characters attempting to make sense of clues and life. Both Ellie and Grayson have struggle-filled pasts that creep into the present as they look for Ellie's missing sister. Throughout, readers ask themselves if we really know the people around us as well as we think. At the same time, we hope for more of the series in the future.

Ellie's sister McKenzie disappeared and all evidence points to her death. There is blood everywhere. No one could survive that much loss of blood but where is her body? There is Grayson the handsome coast guard who is a long last relative of a resident in the area. He wants to Mack since she could be involved in cocaine transport. This book kept me engaged. I wanted to know what happened to Mack.I loved the sweet romance that developed between Ellie and Grayson. It was good to visit the characters from the previous book and see what they are up to. There is still some loose ends that will be developed in the third book which will come out later this year.

The second of the Lavender Tides series by Colleen Coble, The House At Saltwater Point follows on from The View From Rainshadow Bay (book review here). Though reading the first isn’t necessary as Shauna and Zach aren’t a large part of this story, I enjoyed seeing how their relationship is developing. Ellie, a house flipper and close friend of Shauna, is the focus of the novel along with Grayson, Coast Guard intelligence officer and Mackenzie, Ellie’s sister.

The book begins as Grayson finds out he’s not who he thinks he is and Ellie discovers Mackenzie has disappeared. Their worlds collide as Grayson suspects Mackenzie of a crime Ellie cannot believe she could have committed. I love the parallel of Grayson coming to terms with who he is as Ellie reframes Mackenzie’s behaviour in an effort to understand it! The intrigue is multilayered from the start and the more I read, the more interesting it became. Once again, I had to read it in one sitting! The twists and turns are surprising, I so love how Colleen Coble writes! Don’t miss out on this great thriller – five out of five!

A House at Saltwater Point by Colleen Coble is the second book in her Lavender Tides Series. I read the first one. I believe that the most interesting aspect of the story was the missing siblings that died in the earthquake. I wish more of the story focused on this thread instead of the suspense with the dead body or missing body of Mac, Ellie's sister. The novel's structure does fit a romantic suspense. Fifty percent is about the romance and fifty percent is about the suspense. The suspense leads the story and Ellie and Grayson look for clues to find Mac. The romance also plays off each other as Ellie and Grayson depend more on each other and learn to trust one another as the story progresses. To be honest, I wish the story had more depth. It wasn't that suspenseful, and I wasn't worried about Ellie or Grayson's life. And what is it with practically every romantic suspense novel anymore always having a car being pushed by another car from behind? Think of something else.
Overall, A House at Saltwater Point by Colleen Coble didn't thrill me like I want a romantic suspense novel to. I felt cheated with bland characters, a plot I wanted more of, and a romance that really didn't feel like a romance.

Another great book by Ms. Coble. A lot of twist and turns that I didn't expect. I wouldn't say this was an edge of your seat book. But it sure kept me interested.

Ellie carries around guilt from her sisters death that she just can't seem to let go of. This colors her life if about every way. Grayson finds out he's adopted and this throws him for a loop. His familiy dynamics starts to make since to him now. So them dealing with these issues and then throw in terrorism it make for a great read. I would highly recommend this book.

Coble. We encounter past character and the search from book 1 continues although Coble gives enough background that this can be read as a standalone.

I loved Ms. Coble’s first book in this series, The View from Rainshadow Bay, and she does it again with this second book in the series. This book picks up not too long after the conclusion for the first book. If you are wondering about the characters you met in the first book, you will get updates of them throughout this book. This book focuses on Ellie and Grayson. Both have issues in their past that they struggle with and this story shows how they overcome the past. The reader will follow their journey as they investigate the strange things that are occurring to Ellie especially after her sister goes missing. This book is engaging and entertaining as you follow along to see what will happen next and what did happen to Ellie’s sister, Mackenzie. Another reason I enjoy Ms. Coble’s books so much is due to the fact she uses her books to witness to others. I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed. It could be read as a stand-alone, but I would suggest reading the first book in the series before this one. This book also provides a little insight into the direction of the next book in the series. I cannot wait until the next book is available!

Ellie Blackmore and Jason Yarwood, her sister's ex husband, are partners in a business called Lavender Farm Homes. Ellie is known as "Hammer Girl" because of her blog of the same name.
When Ellie goes to visit her sister, Mackenzie, on her tall ship, Lavender Lady, she is horrified to find that Mackenzie has disappeared and the deck is covered in blood.
Grayson Bradshaw is really Shauna Bannister's long lost brother, Connor. He is in the Coast Guard Investigatve Services and is in Lavender Falls to track some missing cocaine, andTarek Nasser, the terrorist who killed his best friend.
Although the book is a sequel to The View from Rainshadow Bay, it easily stands alone. The novel is fast paced and we are kept guessing all along. It is a most enjoyable read. I was given a copy of the book by Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. The opinions in this review are entirely my own.

Another great mystery by Colleen Coble that kept me guessing. I loved the relationship between Grayson and Ellie. I hope to read more on this couple in future books.
