I loved this funny book. Its not the first I ever read of Coleman, and she never disappoints. I always look forward to new books by this author.

Did this book grip me? Not really - some leaps in imagination required at times for the plot. But did I dislike it? No - I didn’t, and I think it was probably the lead character that I really wanted to have a happy ending.

One Way or Another is a heart-warming and inspiring novel. Just like Colleen Coleman's past books, it gives a positive message and consists of an empowered woman as the main character. I totally enjoyed this novel and excited for the next book of the author.

The book is an entertaining chick-lit written in a manner that makes it both a fun and a humorous read. I like the main protagonist of the story who isn't your regular chick-lit character. She is just as confused and unsure like most of us. This is something that makes her easily relatable.

Cute romance and novel about a woman trying to kick start her life (again) and get the life she always thought she'd live.

'One Way or Another' is a fun, light-hearted story. When we meet Katie Kelly, she's in a bad place. Her career is non-existing, as well as her love life. But maybe she'll find an answer to both when this new opportunity arrives?

The setting of the cooking competition is fun and original. We've all seen dozens of those on reality tv-shows, but reading about it was completely new to me. But the stress, flavours and heath of a 5 star kitchen in action are just as tangible in this book as they would have been on screen. No Gordon Ramsey here, but equally enough drama to make this story energetic and fast paced.

Throw in a great romance, an endearing old lady and an hilarious best friend, and you've got yourself a winner. Great, fun read!

One Way or Another was a lovely read and the perfect book if you're in the mood for a story without over the top drama but still with great characters and an interesting plot.
I decided to read it because I love romance novels that are set in a culinary background and this book definitely delivered that.
The characters are well built and while the romance part of the novel is great, this book was more than a mere love story.
After reading it, I felt inspired by Katie and all the work she puts into making her dreams becoming a reality.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend this book 😊

This was such a fun and interesting read. Chef Katie has lost her true love, fellow chef Ben, to a luxury cruise line that recruited him to be their chef. Katie opens her own restaurant but it ultimately fails and she is totally broke and essentially homeless. She winds up sleeping on her friend Alice's sofa and peeling potatoes in a nursing home kitchen. She's hit rock bottom but her story is by no means over. Not wanting to spoil this charming book for anyone, all I can say is read this, you will love it!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for a review copy. This is my honest opinion.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Not sure about this book, read it and sort of enjoyed it but had to skip a bit here and there hence the lower score.

Katie Kelly always dreamed that her life would be better than this, her plans were to take the restaurant world by storm and get there by hard work and determination, but that wasn’t enough. She has to keep working to keep herself afloat even if its under a unfeeling slave driver who seems to want to eliminate happiness from anyone’s life. Her one regret is encouraging her boyfriend to follow his dream and travel abroad, she’s never got over his leaving. Suddenly she’s presented with a chance to escape the drudgery of her life, so has she got the courage to go for it?
I found this book to be entertaining and in fact I missed my tube stop at one point as I was so engrossed. It’s definitely not predictable but amusing and tugging at your emotions, great stuff.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Look, I positively adored Colleen Coleman's I'm Still Standing.
I tried to read but had to put on hold Don't Stop Me Now.
But I enjoyed this one well enough.

What annoys me though, is the author's habit of calling her books "hilarious laugh-out-loud romantic comedies". From my experience, they're neither of those things. They're neither particularly funny nor would I even label them as romance.

Romance, while present, tends to take the back seat in Coleman's books. Her stories are more focussed on her heroines' journey of self-discovery, their pursue of happiness, and on the importance of family and friendship.
Which there isn't anything wrong with. Just don't advertise your books as somethings they're not.

Okay, so as for this one in particular, I liked it. I loved it up until the 65% mark - the cooking, the relationships, the competition. It was so much fun to follow Katie fight for the job of her dreams and I grew so hungry reading about all those delicious dishes. I really liked Katie even though she thought a lot. And I mean, a lot.
The problem was that the story's climax came far too early on. From then on, it just kind of fizzled out and totally lost me. I started skimming and skipping, not interested any more in details, only wanting to know roughly what was going on afterwards. And unfortunately, the book never managed to catch my attention again after that point.

I do enjoy Coleman's writing. I appreciate the messages her books convey and I love her portrayal of strong, passionate women trying to find their place and purpose.
I just wish her stories were more consistently able to capture and hold my attention.

This tells the story of Katie who had to give up her own restaurant and is now at an all time low. She has a temp job, her boyfriend left to travel the world and she is staying on a friends sofa. 80 year old Martha helps Katie to believe in her dreams again and go for it. Katie's boyfriend reappears in her life and all the old feelings return. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved Katie and Martha and I was rooting for Katie from the get go. This book is warm hearted, funny and a wonderful read. I would highly recommend this book. Its about picking yourself up again and seeing where life leads you.

I love stories about following a passion, because I am the type of person who will usually choose passion over practicality and comfort, so it was no surprise that I enjoyed reading this book. One Way or Another is an engaging story about second chances in pursuing a dream, reconnecting with family and finding love.

The story follows Katie Kelly, a woman passionate about cooking. Katie is admirable and lovable. She is the heroine you'll route for —you'll want her to succeed because you can see her determination in every chapter. Even though she encountered some setbacks, she didn't lose her passion or gave up on her dreams, she just needed sometime to get back on her feet and gain back her confidence.

While Katie has a charming love interest, in the form of Ben Cole, their romance wasn't the main plot —it was just something that developed while Katie was working on herself and her dreams. Katie and Ben has good chemistry, but I liked that their love story isn't the focused of the book. To me, it shows readers that the right kind of love will come, when you decide to prioritize yourself first.

I love the side characters in the story, especially Katie's support system because they really are really good that lifting her up. Martha is one of my favorite characters. She has a lot of words of wisdom that actually made me feel good. It was like she wasn't only giving advice to Katie, but also to me.

One thing I didn't like about the book are the dragging and unnecessary scenes —there are too many of them. I also didn't like that almost all the characters go their HEA, because it made the story less realistic. Despite that, the book is still a good read. If you enjoy watching cooking competition and reading about passionate people, you'll surely love this book.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookoutoure for providing with a copy of this book. This did not, in any way, affect my overall opinion of the book and/or the story.

Katie Kelly is the main character of this book, and we meet up with her when life has gone wrong. She’s split up from her boyfriend Ben, her restaurant which was her pride and joy has gone bust, and now to make ends meet she’s working in a kitchen at an old people’s home, while sofa surfing on her friend’s couch.

One of the residents Martha, suggests that Katie applies to work for one of the best chefs in the country, and so she starts to go through the application process when she discovers a fellow contestant, is her ex Ben, but there can only be one winner.

I am going to start by apologising, as I know that books are difficult things to write, and an author will pour their heart and soul into it and lay themselves bare for everyone to either love or hate you, (preferably love you!) but I didn’t like this book at all. To begin with, it bugged me that the plot was so similar to something else I read recently, and I actually enjoyed the other book more. Then I found that I didn’t like the main character Katie, which was a real problem. I turned into a petulant teenager, and just “didn’t care” whether she got the dream job or not, I felt no connection with her. And then there was the fact that it all seemed a bit too unbelievable – her living arrangements drastically changed, and I not sure that would actually happen, the speed at which she got selected, and yes, accommodation would be provided, but not to that degree, and the ending – oh god, don’t even get me started – too perfect for real life.

The story didn’t grip me, and I was racing through it, not for the enjoyment but merely to get to the end. (sorry!)
You know the saying “to cut a long story short?” this felt like completely the reverse. It would have made an enjoyable novella, or short story, but this felt like it was being padded out in some areas, and I would skip along pages and pages of prose just to get to the point.

The book has also been described as “A totally uplifting laugh loud romantic story…” well, I must have completely missed those bits, because there weren’t any bits that made me laugh, let alone out loud.

However, if you love Hells Kitchen, or are a fan of Masterchef, then you will love this book. For me, the one part of it that I did adore was Martha. Her back story is the story that I wanted to read about as she seemed so interesting, and I felt she should have been the main character with Katie being the sub plot.

I’m afraid, this just wasn’t the story for me, but I hope that many people enjoy it.

I read Colleen Coleman's Don't Stop Me Now last year and found a funny, delightful new author. It was a charming story about finding yourself and moving forward.

So I was super excited to request "One Way or Another" from Netgalley and Bookouture in return for an honest review.

This was a 3.5 star read for me - enjoyable, absolutely. We follow Katie Kelly; chef, former restaurant owner, as she enters a competition to work for a great chef - known not only for his talent, but also for his hissy fits in the kitchen, demanding expectations of his staff and his unrelenting desire to be the absolute best.

While competing for a spot, Katie's ex boyfriend, and love of her life, Ben walks into the kitchen. A chef as well, they broke up 3 years ago to pursue different career goals. The result is that both Katie and Ben end up competing against one another for the position of grand chef.

This is a cute story that takes a lot of inspiration from "Hell's Kitchen" and Gordon Ramsey type chefs -ones known for swearing, demeaning and working their staff to the bone... but getting results.

I liked all the characters quite a bit, but found that Katie's lack of self esteem bothered me in the beginning. And then when she did become full of confidence, it felt like it came out of nowhere.

That said. This is a super enjoyable read. It will make you smile and cheer on Katie.

Recommended read - especially if you like Chef shows and like a little rom-com. This book will deliver both.

3 stars for this novel about dreams that come true!
Katie Kelly lives on her friend's sofa, works for a tyrannous chief in a retirement home and dreams of being, again, a great chef.
One day the occasion of her life knocks on her door. A famous French chef is looking for a chef for his London restaurant. With the simplicity which distinguishes her, Katie passes the first challenge and finds herself in the lion's den. Will she emerge the winner?
Colleen Coleman carries the reader in the hell kitchen world, where everything is saturated with love and will power. Katie is a one of us, a girl who fights for reach the target which makes life worthwhile.

Not my usual type of book. It had lots of laughs and was a fun read. Nothing too serious. It would be a nice holiday read where you don't have to concentrate too much. Enjoyable.
