This was an emotional and brave tale about Amelia and Rory, who, are going through their own struggles while hiking 80 miles hike through the Isle of Skye. In all honesty, the real start of the story was the Isle of Skye. A beautiful place and the star of the book.

4.5 - "I kind of wish we could go back to hating each other..." Stars!

My first read by Beth Anne Miller, can definitely be classed as a winner. Having traveled to Scotland a few times myself over the years I was interested to see how the author would handle the dialect, and the descriptions of the land itself.

What the hell was I doing here…

And I think that is part of the reason why I enjoyed the book so thoroughly, because she absolutely nailed it. Rory as a Scot came across as such, but the language wasn’t overplayed, like it sometimes can be, and the scenery, well it wasn’t a struggle to picture at all. What with having spent time touring the area myself, but the author really captured the essence of it all perfectly. I could smell the heather, feel the wind and touch the misty rains that come on with the blink of an eye, and that also disappear just as quickly leaving a rainbow smile behind to remember them by.

She made my heart beat again… she had the power to destroy it.

It takes a second for you to realize that on first meeting both Rory Sutherland; Guide for the Skye Trail, and Amelia Benson; unenthusiastic hiker taking a walk, are not feeling all warm and fuzzy about each other. Rory’s initial assumptions bring about incorrect judgements which when commented on raise a few hackles in our American who is wholly trekking outside of her comfort zone. It’s only as their journey progresses, and they start to learn things about the other that the realization that more than a healthy dislike is growing between them.

He’d been my nemesis, my helper, my friend, my lover… We’d shared laughter, tears and the kind of passion I’d only ever read about…

I loved the way the author revealed the inner-most workings of this couple as their hike progressed, and with each new day on the trail, another part of their pasts, their motivations, and their reasons for being where they were, were revealed. It made for an entertaining, emotive and engrossing read.

"It’s always the quiet ones who say the dirtiest things."

It might have been my first read, but it certainly won’t be my last book by this author. I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

After reading and loving A Star to Steer Her By last year, I kept placeholder in my calendar for this book for months. I had been greatly anticipating this story and y'all? It might have actually exceeded my expectations.

Under a Storm Swept Sky is riveting.

It's one of those books that appears to have found the perfect formula: action, adventure, romance, drama all doled out in doses that kept me glued to my Kindle, heart held in thrall, mind racing to know what happens next. I was pulled in immediately, and my attention never wavered from these fascinating, multi-faceted characters, or this brilliantly told story.

Rory and Amelia were so easy to love. Both damaged and wounded. Both working through their own healing processes and battling their own demons. I feel like "enemies to lovers" is a bit too strong of a label, but there was definitely no insta-anything here. Their burn is slow - but it felt steady to me, and when it finally paid off, it was so sensually scintillating, and satisfying - it was completely worth every way it tugged on and bruised my heart during the build-up.

This is my second book by this author, and she seems to have a gift for weaving her romance into a greater adventure. It's done in such a way that you literally feel like you're along for the ride. My heart raced at times, my body rigid with tension during some of the more intense scenes. I felt part of the story, fully invested, heart full of love for these characters and this brutally beautiful landscape (that yes, I now yearn to see for myself).

What can I say? I loved it. The adventure. The secondary characters (Tommy!). The emotional punches. The strong and brave heroine. The wounded but honorable hero. That slow steady burn that once flared to life basically incinerated my heart (and possibly left some scorch marks on my kindle). With Under a Storm Swept Sky, Ms. Miller has delivered a deft one-two punch of remarkable storytelling and beautiful writing. This is easily an early 2018 favorite for me and I cannot recommend it highly enough!

This book contains great content and makes for a very interesting and appealing read.

It is in my opinion that the author of this novel has a lot of talent in writing and composing quite an fascinating novel that will interest a broad range of audiences and maybe even bring new fans of her work to light.Personally, I found the novel to be very exciting and fascinating. For me, I need to be entranced in a novel and captivated by the content to the extent that it keeps me hooked through the entire novel.. I couldn't take my eyes off my kindle , that is how interested I was in this novel and that is a huge positive for this novel. Two different individuals from two different lifestyles merge to discover something completely worth while. That pretty much says it all...

I wont give anything away because I do not want to take away from other people's reading pleasure of this novel however I will say this, to all the potential readers out there who may be interested , it is an great book. It may not be for everyone but I assure you as a very harsh critic , I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

Congratulations to Beth on an awesome novel. Be proud because you have done an amazing job.

This was such a SWEET love story. Bonus? It's set in Scotland, and I'm a sucker for a man with a Scottish brogue.

Rory and Amelia most definitely don't hit it off in the beginning. He's the tour guide leading her, along with a few other people, through the Isle of Sky trail. A daunting 7-day hike that Amelia is most definitely not equipped for. Hiking is her best friend's thing, not her's, but she's there in her place.

She'll finish, even if it kills her. (And it almost does.)

Throughout their incredible journey - I mean the descriptions of the locations alone, my god - Rory and Amelia start to open up to one another little by little, and they find out that they're both chasing away their individual demons.

It's a story set in the beauty of Scotland, about a man and a woman who help each other find their peace again.

It gave me all the warm-feelies and I couldn't stop reading. The author's note about her own personal trip through the Isle was beautiful, too.

I received a copy of UNDER A STORM-SWEPT SKY on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author.

Five stars and here's why:

UNDER A STORM-SWEPT SKY captivated my interest from the get-go. I loved the cover, I loved the premise, and I’m a huge OUTLANDER fan, so I did a total happy dance when I got this ARC from Netgalley. First, let me say, I am not a hiker. So, the thought of reading a story about hiking is like a trip to the dentist, but man, does Beth Anne Miller deliver one of the most fast-paced, hella-hot romances that I couldn’t put the book down. I ignored my day job. I ordered take-out for dinner. My husband had to put the kids to bed. My eyes were glued to the story, and my heart trekked on the Isle of Skye along with Amelia and Rory and their band of merry hiking misfits.

This book had all the feels. I laughed. I cried. I sighed. I fanned myself whenever Rory spoke in that sexy Scottish accent. Seriously.

If you love hella-hot Scottish guys, savvy girls, and sexy banter in spades, then this book is for you! Highly recommend!

This is a really sweet and sappy romance that I really enjoyed reading. Amelia decided to honor her sick friend, Carrie, by traveling from New York to Scotland on a pre-planned hiking trip. Rory, her hiking guide, treats her terribly because he thinks she is flighty and self-absorbed. Rory and Amelia fight constantly on the hiking trek until a tragedy brings them together.

The romance in this story is very sweet and not dirty. I loved Amelia and Rory as a couple. The story itself is sad in spots but I found myself speed reading through this book because I loved reading about Amelia and Rory and even Rory's friend Tommy. Such a well-written, sweet story.

Some books just call out for you to read them and whilst Under a Storm-swept Sky had my attention at the blurb—I love me a brooding Scot—it was what lay beneath that I quickly found myself lost in.

“Sometimes just one person can truly make a difference in someone’s life.

Set amongst the stunning scenery of the Isle of Skye, Beth Anne Miller has created a touching, emotional story of love, self-discovery and forgiveness between two characters each harbouring their own personal pain. And as US tourist, Amelia and trekking guide, Rory embark on their journey across the rugged terrain of the western Highlands, it’s one which both breaks, and warms, your heart.

“Life is short, and in a careless second, it can be irrevocably altered or yanked away completely. And we need to live it while we can. I don’t want to go home and regret that I didn’t make the most of my time with you.”

Whilst on the surface Rory and Amelia are complete opposites, underneath is a different story. Their connection was so well played bringing plentiful verbal sparring, tension, fight, tenderness and intimacy, and I adored watching two broken, but oh-so-stubborn souls come together to make a whole.

“Make me forget, Amelia. Just for a little while.”

There’s no better reading experience than one where you feel part of the story and through her words Beth Anne Miller has created so many lovely moments that call to your senses. Under a Storm-swept Sky is a beautifully written, memorable romance with a wonderful cast of characters which brought both tears of sadness and joy all whilst reminding me how lucky I am to be able to get in my car and 8 hours later be breathing in the clean Scottish air and fighting off the midges. My first read by this author certainly won’t be my last.

“You can take a hundred shots that will show a brown speck against the sky, and they will never capture this moment the way your eyes can.”

Another home run for Beth Miller!! A Star to Steer Her by was easily a favorite from last year, and this was every bit as wonderful!

I loved the bickering between Rory and Amelia (they shall be Ramelia, said with a yummy Scottish accent!), and the sweetness and humor that Tommy added. It was really a great start to this story.

The trepidation that Amelia feels is evident and very relatable, especially in light of the circumstances that puts her on the Isle of Skye trip to begin with. But she is stubbornly independent, which is always a trait I enjoy in a character. The mystery of both Rory and Amelia's past heartbreaks is done in a fantastic slow roll as the hiking adventure unfolds, and I was eager to find out exactly what clouds were hanging over them.

The romance here is really sweet, the chemistry enough to keep you warm on a cold Scottish night, and the bond formed by not just Amelia and Rory but some of the supporting characters as well is just wonderful.

The beauty of Scotland is also showcased so well!! I could see the vistas and hear the accents, feel the aches and cold weather... I'm sad the story is over! I wanna go back on the adventure!

Fantastical! I don't know where to start. The first thing I have to say is this is a must read. I loved it.
Absolutely hands down, loved it. This book doesn't miss a beat. From the very first page you'll be sucked right in and you won't want to put in down after it ends.

Amelia, travel weary flying to Skye to take the place of her best friend who couldn't make the trip so she's doing it in her place. She's exhausted, inexperienced and hates hiking. So why would she sign up for an 80 mile hike across the Isle of Skye, the rugged terrain, the weather, the surly guide who for no reason took an immediate dislike to Amelia from the first moment. Tommy the other guide runs interference but Rory seems to get off on ticking off Amelia. They both have secrets they hold close and the emotions run high in places in the book. When they finally settle into some sort of truce, they open up a little to each other. When Amelia is injured and Rory makes the decision to help her finish the hike, he understands her need to do that. I'm not saying much more than that. This is really a story that has to be read. It's a fantastic read and the writing is stellar. Amelia is snarky and takes no guff from Rory, while carrying her own story. Rory is undeniably a grump, while soft and bears his own burdens. I loved all the characters in this story.... deserves far more than 5 stars.

When I read the description, I had to check it out. Hike 80 miles, on purpose you say? Oh but wait, hike through Scotland with a grumpy hot guide? Sold! I don’t hike or do nature at all. The thought of doing everything in this book makes me want to spork both my eyes out, twice. The way everything was described though, I felt I was right there in Scotland hiking beside everyone else. Rory and Amelia started off rocky but along the way, they had to work together and help each other out more ways than one. I enjoyed this one and I’ll for sure check out other books by the author. I like her writing.

I absolutely loved this book!

Amelia and Rory seem to dislike each other almost from the moment they met on the van ride to the Isle of Sky. Rory is one of the guides for the 80 mile hike Amelia has signed up for.

Of course, first appearances can be deceiving, and the two slowly get to know each other better. As the story unfolded, I felt like I was right there getting to know them too. Over the course of the book I think I fell in love with Rory just a little too. Both he and Amelia have difficult experiences that have shaped their view of themselves, and they might understand each other better than anyone else could.

The plot struck just the right balance of revealing information and character history as the story progressed. It did feel, too, like the Isle of Sky was just as much a main character as Amelia and Rory. The landscape was so beautifully described that I felt like I was walking the trail myself.

I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading A Star to Steer Her By, which I believe is about characters that make an appearance in Under a Storm-Swept Sky.

This book had me interested from page one. A trek across Skye with hot tour guides sounds like a wonderful vacation even for a mostly stationary person. Finding a way to make this adventure of a lifetime happen is what matters most. Falling for the rough and seemingly not interested tour guide makes this novel even better. The description of the landscape had me searching the internet to see what Skye really looks like. Being an Outlander fan, this novel gave the same sensations that I had when reading about Jaime Frasier. The characters are so believable and real. This author has done her research and brings Skye right to your reading devise. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves to read.

Under A Storm-Swept Sky is a captivating story about a young woman who goes on a journey for her very best friend, even though it was a feat she never wanted to take on in the first place. I will admit it took me a few pages to really become interested in the story line, but once the angst kicked in I was hooked. I have laughed, and teared up while reading and I love that this author was able to pull those emotions out of me, showing their talent for writing! This is one of the best books I’ve read recently. If you like a slow burn that turns to fire between two characters that can’t really stand each other then PICK THIS BOOK. It is worth the read!

Great enemies to lovers story set in the breathtaking Isle of Skye. Amelia and Rory clash from the beginning of the trip but as they are forced to interact and spend time together they start to see that they have more in common than they initially thought. Beautiful and heartbreaking, I loved their emotional journey.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
