This is a beautiful, motivational, inspiring book, told in the words of a child who didn't fit in and was bullied by her peers but dod not let their mistreatment of her dictate her life, her success, her future. I found this book to be well written, very relatable and relevant to today's young people who encounter attitudes regularly in life that the need to be resilient against and must develop strength and confidence to be able to stand up against. It's a book that will be very useful to so many young people going forward.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is about a young girl who is bullied and doesn't fit in. She works her way up to being more confident and works on her real love, music.

I think many kids will identify with bullying. I think they will get inspiration from We and her love of music.

This is a cute and inspirational picture book by the singer Wé McDonald who found fame on the television show The Voice. There really isn’t much depth one can bring to a picture book, but the theme of persevering and finding your voice-no pun intended- shines brightly on these pages. Young Wé didn’t always believe in herself and endured some bullying and teasing. In fact, she didn’t really like her voice until she performed in her middle school talent show and was very well received. The teasing and bullying lessened and when her father sent a tape of her singing to The Voice, the rest is history. The illustrations add to the narrative by their pleasant feel. Wé is a name that means diligent and committed, so she has lived up to her name. Certainly a book, that youngsters will enjoy, especially if they’re trying to find their particular groove and may need a bit of a boost from one who has lived through similar circumstances. Thanks to Netgalley and Lightswitch Learning for an advanced ebook. Book is available now.

I had actually never heard of We McDonald before, but I liked her story about finding her voice, overcoming bullying, and learning to love herself. These are important messages for all.children, and this book would be a great discussion starter. Terrific illustrations accompany the text, making it a very engaging book.

I read a copy from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This is a wonderful true story of a shy, bullied girl who finds her voice in the world and what an extraordinary and magnificent voice it is.

"I'm holding my heard up high. I know my dreams will touch the sky..." that is her mission in life and one she wants to share with every child. It is a positive, inspirational message that she delivers through not only her songs but through her acting and dancing abilities. She is very talented and beautiful inside and out.

This little girl with a big voice is determined not to be defined by bullying words and what others think about her. She forges ahead to become a singing sensation on "The Voice", an NBC-TV hit show that millions of viewers watch weekly.

With the support of teachers, her loving parents and her own brute determination to keep moving forward she wows the judges and starts to believe in herself and that incredible voice within her.

She confronts the painful, ostricizing bullying episodes from her younger years head on and turns those hurtful experiences into a positive force that reaches out to help others who are being bullied through her cathartic lyrics and soothing words. She comforts with authority because she is a survivor of such vitriol and speaks from first hand experience and right from her heart. Her words are healing and are drawn from her own past wounds. Wé's uplifting words empower others to find their own voice and instead of succumbing to victimization she encourages kids to become who they were created to be, someone with value and uniqueness. She inspires others to celebrate and be proud of who they are and raise their voices and give a toast to... themselves!

The illustrations are colourful, vibrant and funky. I love them. They fit the narrative perfectly. The book includes follow-up questions and activities and is a winner on many levels. I highly recommend it.

I read this book (via Netgalley) and loved it! I didn't realize until I looked at the Amazon listing that the book is based on Wé's true story.
Wé talks about her anxieties and bullying experiences growing up and how she reacted to them. Wé vulnerably told how she tried to make herself feel better by bullying others and how that only made her feel worse.
It was awesome to see Wé overcome her anxiety to go onto competing on the Voice!

There are even discussion questions and activities in the back of the book! I highly recommend "The Little Girl with the Big Voice" for classrooms, families, and anyone in need of some encouragement.

Thanks to netgallery for the ebook arc of The Little Girl with the Big Voice by Wé McDonald in exchange for an honest review.
This story follows the journey of a girl who loves to sing, but also struggles with self confidence. You get to see her progression from singing as a child, to becoming an adult and how she followed her dream even though the journey may not have been perfect.
I read this book with my 5 year old daughter and we both really enjoyed it. The illustrations were beautiful and fit perfectly with the story.
I would definitely reccommend.

I really enjoyed this fictionalized telling of a true story. I don’t watch The Voice so I had no idea who We McDonald is. I like the story of finding your voice, living through bullying, and growing confidence that you can be who you want to be and do what you want to do. Plus the illustrations and color work in this book are amazing!!! A joy to read all around.

We' sends a great message about working hard and overcoming the bullying that she endured. Her performance on The Voice was out of this world.

I was hoping for a story about a young girl who overcame obstacles to find she had a voice and was in charge of her own destiny. Instead, it was just the story of her experience with The Voice. Disappointing.
