Another amazing read from Elliot! Non-stop suspense kept me on the edge of my seat from the start to the end. Loved the mini reunion with characters from the Bone Secrets Series. Each Mercy book is better than the last and so exited for more! Thank you Kendra and NetGalley!

I love a good suspense and Ms. Elliot is a master in giving her readers the perfect blend of suspense and romance. Her female characters are complex and engaging, plots are tightly woven and the action is fast paced. The result is a must read book. I highly recommend this book.

This is the fourth book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series. This series is easy to follow but it doesn’t lack in the mystery suspense aspect at all. Readers can easily go back to the small town of Eagle’s Nest, Oregon without getting lost in too much details so you get in the middle of the book right away. Mercy and Truman’s relationship continues to grow while at the same time a murders both from the past and present are waiting to be solved. There are a lot of twists and turns here and it will definitely keep you guessing who really dunnit!

I've read and loved all of Kendra Elliot's books to date and loved them all
A Merciful Silence is the 4th book in the Merciful series and this time we find Mercy recovering from a gunshot wound and mourning the loss of her cabin. Mercy is a prepper and after a mudslide reveals 5 skulls and Mercy and her boyfriend Police ChiefTruman Daly are on a mission to identify who they belong to when another family is found in similar circumstances to the murders 20 years ago which leads to the question is there a copy cat killer on the loose or is the wrong person in Jail? Thus begins a race against time to uncover the truth and when Truman goes missing Mercy realises the depths of her feelings for him. I really liked the new character Ollie and hope he sticks around Eagle's Nest for a while.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kendra Elliot for the arc of A Merciful Silence my review is honest and unbiased.

This is the first Kendra Elliot book I've read, and I have to say it did not disappoint. The writing was very descriptive in a way that put me in the scene without distracting me from the story. The characters were very real and jumped out of the page. The mystery and suspense were done well and kept me guessing. This won't be the last I read of Elliot. Very well done, and edited really well also. Very smooth writing that just really pulled me in.

The latest in the Mercy Kilpatrick series is a solid crime/police procedural/thriller. This series is best read in order as the books continue on from where the last one left off as far as Mercy and Truman go, but with a new crime/mystery.

With heavy rain and flooding in Eagle Rock, five skulls and bones have been discovered in a ditch/culvert. Each of them have been bashed in the temple and mouth. When the coroner looks at the bones, she immediately recognizes the similarity to a case from over 20 years ago. A man was convicted of those crimes and is in prison. Did they arrest and convict the wrong person? Coincidentally, the one surviving family member of that earlier crime is back in Eagle's Nest, hoping to be able to put her ghosts to rest. There is also a secondary plot line with the Sovereign Citizens living in the woods of Eagle Rock. Truman stops one for speeding and he ends up in jail after resisting arrest. He then sues Truman and more troubles erupt there. Trying to get information from the anti-government preppers and sovereign citizens is not easy and hampers the investigation at times.

Mercy’s anxiety is back in force with the loss of her cabin in book three. She is also dealing with a physical recovery from her injuries, but this does not stop her. I like seeing this side of Mercy, it made her seem more vulnerable and ultimately, more realistic. She takes center stage in this story, and showed her strength of character as well as an agent. Truman is not as integral in the investigation in this book, but as you read it you will see the reason behind that and how well it fits into the plot. We meet some other characters involved in the police forces in the area and I hope they will continue to be present in the next book, it adds a bit more realism. This is a fast paced book that had me on the edge of my seat. I’ve come to enjoy Mercy and Truman very much and enjoy how their relationship has evolved. I liked the character of Ollie who Truman takes under his wing. I would love to see more of him in the next book. Do I see a new spinoff series in the future here? The publisher, Montlake Romance, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Kendra Eliot’s “Mercy Kilpatrick” series continues as FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick and Police Chief Truman Daly guarding the little town of Eagle’s Nest, Oregon, a town that seems to harbor unexpected crimes and open long buried secrets.

“A Merciful Silence” throws Mercy Kilpatrick into the midst of a reprise of gruesome slaughters, two decades ago and now the discovery of bones in a downpour of a storm. As Mercy tries to unravel the mystery surrounding this murder, Truman is caught in the vice of the killer. And with time against them, Mercy has to find the killer before she loses Truman and Truman’s only goal is to get to Mercy at any cost.

“A Merciful Silence” is another brilliant fiction as Kendra takes another step in forging Mercy’s place in the little town. This story also takes Mercy and Truman’s relationship to another level, as they battle the very possibility of not surviving a killer’s madness.

Still paying great attention to the dynamics of the Kilpatrick family, Kendra Elliot weaves another intense story of family loyalties, loss and pain, hope and faith. And I’ve always loved her prowess of developing a personal relationship, layer by layer, book by book…my favorite attribute of hers.

When it comes to the suspense/thriller genres, I like an author who can keep me guessing until the very end. The Mercy Kilpatrick series perfectly meets that requirement.

Author Kendra Elliot serves up a cadre of fascinating characters in A Merciful Silence, which is the fourth book in the series. The books can be read as stand-alones, but my preference is to start from the beginning when I know it’s going to be an awesome read.

As the main character, FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick has plenty of spunk and a keen sense for solving cases. It’s clear from the beginning, though, that she has a vulnerable side. Still bruised from a former case, she finds herself trying to put together clues. Five skulls, all with the same injury.

The suspense builds when Kilpatrick finds similarities between her case and one that happened decades ago. Is it a copycat or did someone convict the wrong man?

With her signature style, the author provides twists and turns at every corner. Just as I was settling in on a theory, it was blown up. Kilpatrick’s frustration is evident in her race for justice.

I found the scenes involving “sovereign citizens” to be fascinating, especially the way the author introduced the concept and then wove it deeper into the storyline. It reminded me a lot of cults that I have read about.

The romantic aspect between Kilpatrick and long-time beau and police chief Truman Daly adds a nice touch to the story. Couple that with a feline rescue and this story hit all the high points for me.

Highly engaging with plenty of plot development, this series is truly a success for author Kendra Elliot.

The 4th book in the Mercy Kilpatrick "Mercy" series starts with a murder with a twist. Kendra Elliot has enriched the characters in this series with each new title. While you do not have to have read the first 3 to enjoy this one, the first books will build your knowledge and understanding of the main characters making this one much more enjoyable. An FBI agent with a prepper background can definitely look at crime scenes and evidence with a different outlook. Set in a small town in Oregon, the locals all have an opinion and feel it is their civic duty to share. With her boyfriend, who also happens to be the police chief, Mercy has to investigate a cold case in order to solve her current case. An enjoyable read all around.

This has to be, hands down, my favorite book of this series. It had a lot of wtf moments, as any Kendra Elliot Book does, and it had more. It was a crazy, somewhat traumatizing ride and I loved every single, solitary, second of it.

There were a few times that I’m pretty sure I stopped breathing. Lol. It was full of ups and downs for not only Mercy but Truman. There is a new character introduced, Britta, who I really liked. There were a few familiar faces (characters) from the other series, which is always a bonus.

The small town is racked with murder, confusion and a lot of questions and as always it’s up to the Eagles Nest Sheriffs office and the FBI to get things underway. It also puts those same people, in danger. A danger that will not be easily stopped. After a few heart pounding hours, I can say, I frigging loved this book. As I said earlier, it’s my favorite.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for Truman and Mercy!

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 3/4
If Mercy thought being shot was going to give her time to rest and relax (which she doesn’t really know how to do) the discover of the remains of five people put a stop to that right away.

But will Mercy be ready to face her past and the issues that this case will bring up?

A Merciful Silence takes us on a very dark and twisting journey. Kendra does an excellent job of giving us many red herrings and paths for us to chase down. Once you think you know what is what you are proven wrong.

Another excellent story from Kendra!! As always I am looking forward to the next installment in Mercy & Truman’s series (even if I think they deserve some well needed rest time :D)

Another solid book from Kendra Elliot. Though Mercy isn't my favorite character out of Kendra's, she is growing on me. These books are definitely engaging and a bit different than others in the genre because of the whole prepper mentality that Mercy has. She's not a completely stable person in the best times. Throw in the events of this book and she was pretty unhinged, but it made for a good story.

There were a couple of different aspects to this book with a few different storylines going on. Good to see some familiar characters, having read her other books. The story stayed fast moving for the most part. I enjoyed the Truman parts best. Definitely will read more.

Very well written enjoyable read. The plot was unique. I would definitely recommend. This book can stand a lone. I believe this book could easily stand alone if you haven't read the previous books, but they are defifintely worth picking up.

It turns out that by the time we meet Mercy and Truman in this book, it has only been six months since Mercy visited her hometown on a job. A lot has happened in that time, and each episode is fraught with tension, intrigue and a lot of gunfire. The story begins with skeletal remains being found and their identity being investigated. On the outskirts of the town, Truman starts a war he doesn't know could exist. There is more soul-searching in this book than in the previous ones and Mercy is closer to being comfortable in her relationship. This of course is due to very trying circumstances.

There is a lot of action involved, some nail-biting moments and very little evidence to point us in the right direction till the very last quarter of the book. If you are a fan of the romantic thriller genre, and/or have read this author before, I suggest you give this series a try because it has a very different support cast ( in terms of the people of the town and those who pop into the story) than most other books set in such circumstances. This book focuses more on a group of sovereign citizens within the USA.

A Merciful Silence is the 4rth book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series. I really enjoy this romantic suspense series. It was a slow start for me but I was totally engrossed by the halfway point. So much suspense and edge-of-your-seat moments.

I highly recommend all the books in this series but this book could be read as a stand-alone. Can't wait to read the next one.

4.5/5.0

This is truly one of the best suspense series I have read. It stands out partly because the storylines are so unique. The topic of preppers and an FBI agent who was raised as such, and still deals with the effects of the lifestyle is intriguing. Mercy’s character is incredibly sympathetic - both in her strengths and her weaknesses. I also love that we see her struggle and work to grow and maintain the relationships that mean so much to her. Ms. Elliott succeeds in making them feel real and connecting the reader in a very personal way. Bravo on all accounts!

This book is the latest one in the series, and while some series may grow stagnant or stall, this one keeps getting better. Be prepared...once you start this book, you are not going to want to stop until the last page.
