I’m not entirely sure how to review this series. Honestly, I’m supposed to be reviewing Book #4 A Merciful Silence, but while I’m sure you could pick up book four without having read the first three I think the series is better if taken as a whole.

Mercy Kilpatrick grew up within a community of preppers. These are the people who are preparing for TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it). They have a lot of guns, they know how to grow and can food, they are survivors. Some of them are paranoid and honestly unhinged others are just self reliant folks who are good to have around in a pinch.

Then as a teenager she was forced to leave. Her family shunned her and she found herself having to make her own way in the world. Now after many years away she is an FBI Agent and has returned to the town she ran away from.

This series is Romantic Suspense at its best. Honestly I often struggle with the genre, I find the level of violence troubling, but while this series does have that –– there is murder and violence –– the underlying story is strong and the characters make it worth the effort.

So highly recommended with the one caveat that there are occasional graphic depictions of violence. Even with that I’m rating the series 5 stars.

I really enjoy this series and Mercy as a characters. If you haven't read the previous you might miss understanding a few things here and there, but this can be read as a standalone for the mystery itself.

A Merciful Silence is the fourth exciting book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series written by author Kendra Elliot. Each story gets better and better. Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the advance copy.

This is the 4th book in this 'Prepper' series , and whilst it can be read as a standalone reading the previous books would be of benefit in understanding the main characters .

This series keeps getting better and better , and this book makes for a fantastic read .
It was the perfect blend of mystery, suspense and romance. Whilst I felt it was a little darker than previous books the character development, scene setting is superb .

The discovery of 5 bodies , killed in a similar way to a past case for which a man is in prison , ensures that Truman and Mercy have their hands full in tracking the killer .
When Truman is kidnapped it forces Mercy to realise just where her priorities should lie in her private life .
The body count rises , the killings gruesome ............who is going to be next ?

The emotional and physical rollercoaster ride experienced by both our heroes before justice is arrived at makes this book a must read .
The introduction of new and interesting characters adds to the story ........and is a plus and makes me hope to read another in this series .

I am a huge fan of the mercy Kilpatrick Series and this fourth book did not disappoint. Mercy is working to find a mass murderer before they hurt her and her boyfriend, Truman. The book was fast paced and I couldn't put it down. I had no clue who was behind the murders and didn't want to stop until I found out. The ending did not disappoint. The story was a good mix of mystery, suspense, and romance.

Suspenseful story with twists and turns that keep your attention the entire read. Mercy Kilpatrick is such a great character who is hard working, honest, devoted and compassionate about her job and family. While I have always like her character, Mercy shows more emotion in this book and that makes you love her even more.

A Merciful Silence was a perfect balance of mystery, suspense, action and romance. The parallel storylines are appreciated so we can keep up with Mercy's "man", Truman Daly. I enjoy a book that I spend the entire read so caught up in the suspense of the story that I cannot focus on anything else. I feel like one of these killers when I am interrupted while reading about Mercy and Truman.

The intriguing murders bring us into the working minds of the detectives, investigators, forensic analysts, and I find that fascinating. Caught up in the history of the story we are immediately brought back to the present when a fresh round of murders happen. But isn't the killer in prison? Who can guide this investigation? One survivor just so happens to be back in town and she is a complete mystery. Britta is a very intriguing woman and I spent most of the time trying to decide which side of the fence she was across- good or bad.

It's hard to give a review on such a storyline without giving too many spoilers so let's say that you will be thrilled with the progess in Mercy and Truman's romance. While it's a rocky climb, certain events open their eyes to what is right in front of them and how important they are to one another. Truman gets much more attention in this story and that storyline will grab your heart and hold on to it for a bit until you can finally breath a sigh of relief.

So much I loved about this story. I loved the addition of new people - Ollie and Britta- can't wait to see if they are included more in the series. Rose- yes we get more of her and she is lovely as ever. Mercy's parents- can there be a true healing there? Owen- changes are good- even though he is slightly there I loved his part in the story.

While I love the Mercy series I can say a trip to rural Oregon sounds terrifying.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The newest edition of the Mercy Kilpatrick series is a cant-put-downable read. When a series of human bones wash to the surface during the rainy season, Mercy is called on to try and identify the remains and find out what happened. Coupled with that investigation, her main man Truman Daly, the police chief goes missing. The majority of the book deals with Mercy trying to find Truman and Truman's struggle to stay alive. Parts of this book were gripping and emotional and the resolution for both events ( the bones and Truman) are perfect.
Another winner from Kendra Elliot.
thank you to NEtgalley for an arc of this books

It was great to catch up again with Mercy, Truman and the rest of the characters. I did think that the previous book ‘A Merciful Secret’ might have been the last book in this series, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out we were getting another book. And it’s also good to hear that ‘A Merciful Silence’ won’t be the last book either.
This is book 4 in the Mercy Kilpatrick series and you definitely need to have read the previous books in the series to really understand the characters and their back stories.
In ‘A Merciful Silence’ Mercy and the FBI are brought in to investigate the discovery of 5 skeletons after a bad storm washes up their bones. As Mercy begins to dig deeper into the mystery surrounding the bones, she realises they resemble two similar crimes that happened in the area more than 20 years before.
Fair warning: the deaths in this book were pretty brutal. I found it a bit confronting reading them, they were probably the most cruel and severe murders I’ve ever read in a Kendra Elliot book.
Mercy’s investigation takes a bit of a backseat in this book, as Truman becomes the main focus with a significant incident happening to him. I won’t say what it is, because I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I really felt for Truman. What happens to him, after everything he’s already been through, just made me want to give him a big hug.
While I found sections of this book a bit troubling, I did enjoy it overall. Kendra Elliot never fails to provide a good, solid romantic suspense novel and I can’t wait to keep reading more of Mercy and Truman.

I love the Mercy Kilpatrick series. I love the character and reading about her. This book was full of surprises and interesting characters were introduced, Britta and Ollie. I can't wait to see Ollie in the future books, of course with Shep.

Truman's simple traffic stop ends up causing him to fight for his survival. While Truman deals with sovereign citizens who believe they are above the law, Mercy is trying to solve a murder, after many skeletons are found inside a culvert. Two families were killed and they appear to be similar to ones that happened twenty years ago. The problem is the convicted killer has been sitting in prison for the last twenty years while more murders are occurring. Was the wrong man convicted?

This book was fast paced, especially when someone dear to Mercy goes missing. There are appearances by both of Mercy and Truman's families. The book is full of suspense with many twists and turns. I was glad the obsessed reporter finally found his match, after overstepping boundaries. Of course there's some romance. Mercy and Truman realize how much they love each other. I can't wait to read the next book.

I really didn't suspect who was behind all the murders until the end. Those sovereign citizens are a bunch of crazies, who seem to keep causing trouble. I can't wait for Rose's baby to arrive. I definitely recommend the book and the whole Mercy Kilpatrick series.

Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake Romance and the author, Kendra Elliot, for a free electronic ARC of this novel.

A Merciful Silence – Kendra Elliott

I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.

Mercy Kilpatrick is back for more, as this time, on a rainy Oregon eve, a police officer out checking mountainous roads for washouts, discovers instead a human skull in a washed out culvert. As the site is assessed by the team, a total of 5 skulls are found, some of them children, reminding investigators of some similar murders years ago, where the lone survivor was an injured child.

Meanwhile, Truman Daly pulls over a young teenager, who claims to be a sovereign citizen, alerting Truman to the fact that there may be more of those ‘citizens’ operating in the area. While assisting in breaking up a bar fight, Truman finds another “sovereign’ citizen in one of the fighters , although the Moody brothers, Ryan and Clint pass it off as a joke.

And so starts off Mercy’s latest adventure as she and Truman work to identify the culvert victims, and link past and present cases together. A search for the lone survivor of the murders years ago, leads the team to a young woman, who has just relocated back to the Oregon area, which has Mercy wondering if the events are all connected somehow, and a jailhouse interview with the convicted killer of the earlier cases has Mercy wondering if the wrong man is behind bars. Truman also gets more than he bargained for as he attempts to prosecute young Joshua for forgery and distribution of ‘sovereign’ identification materials. To say more would definitely adding spoilers!

For those who love mystery/adventures stores, please don’t pass by Kendra Elliot, or this series. This was a great read, with non-stop action, great characters, twists that you won’t see coming, and I promise you will NOT want to put it down! This is the fourth book in the Mercy series (all can be read as stand-alone novels) - I am hopeful that there will be many more to come!! Fabulous!!

The Mercy Kilpatrick series is one of my favorites and this was one of my favorite books. I liked that Mercy’s family were only tertiary characters and the focus was the mystery/mysteries and the relationship between Mercy and Truman. This book was well paced and I enjoyed the time each day I got to escape into it. Can’t wait for the next!

4,5 stars.
Another fantastic and interesting story by Ms. Elliot.
This is the fourth installment in a series which I´m crazy about. And I am not a fan of series, not by a long shot, usually they bored me too soon because they become predictable and repetitive. Under no circumstances can these premises be applied here. Each story it´s different. Each one has its secret proportion of ingredients (romance/suspense/relationships) and they work beautifully.

In this case, the beginning of the story has been slow, worryingly slowly. I understand that, at this point in the series, the author directs her work to Mercy&Truman unconditional fans, and can afford the resource to allocate practically the first half of the book to “introduce and settle” the plot. But it was a bit dull.
But everything has its explanation, of course, and from 47% the plot explodes and there is no longer a second of peace. The pieces of the puzzle are, carefully, falling into place and the story is gradually losing its overwhelming (in the good sense of the word) “tunnel vision”. The reader knows practically the same as the MC´s. And although there are even a few chapters from the bad guy´s POV (not a fan of this either) it isn´t a source of information but of nerves…
There's no rest. Nothing and no one is what it seems to be and time seems not to advance when the clues lead to nowhere and the investigation has no oxygen. But a word in the “right ear” or a stroke of luck there and the action is again fast-paced, with unexpected twists and tension everywhere.

Mrs. Kendra's characters have gone a long way. They have matured and grown before my eyes and have become different people, more complex, more human, closer, easier to understand. This is one of the author's strengths. Mercy was a complicated and difficult character to love, but at this point I don't remember what it was what I didn't like about her. Truman is still the perfect, chivalrous, patient hero who puts Mercy's priorities before his own because he knows what she needs. And this time we have lived an intense chapter in their romance. It seems that they have already found that common place from which they will be planning their lives in a more consolidate way.

The suspense, as always, has been original. Dark and disturbing at times, but solid and original. The fact that the “usual” problems overlap the new suspense suits the story, because it provides a rest between very intense scenes, gives us time to lower the “stress level” and to continue reading. This is the other author´s strong point. Her suspense always have that “something more” I seek.

And the icing on the cake has been the total and absolute lack of family melodrama, which in previous installments, had a considerable weight within the story. It was not my favorite aspect so it was perfect for me. Also, if “absence makes the heart grow fonder” maybe the next time the family shows I'll be more responsive. For now, I still think they are (almost all of them)a bunch of fools. But who knows, knowing this author the way I do, a couple more books in and they're going to be my favorite people in the world.

A highly recommended and very enjoyable series.

It has a been a while that I sat down and read a book from Kendra Elliott and I am glad that I did, it reminded me why I was a fan of hers..Yes and forwarning this book is dark but it is entertaining it will keep you on edge of seat. So we have a mass murderer who is killing entire families and they find that his methods are the same as a killer that is in prison, did they get the wrong guy? But while Mercy and Truman get to work in figuring things, they find they are not doing the only hunting, the killer is after them too!! Enjoy!

I am always impressed with a book that will make me cry, smile and is a page turner that won't let you sleep! What a book! Mercy and Truman, her a FBI agent and him the Chief of Police have a connection of the heart and when she finds out he is missing her world tips. She is a seasoned FBI agent but having Turman missing, and five skeleton remains to identify and bring the killers to justice makes her strength waver. Can she find him in time? Who is murdering families? I highly recommend this book! It is packed with heart pounding action, it made me cry, and I couldn't put it down. Not many books make me cry and I almost always can guess the perp. This one had me wondering a little longer than usual. I received the digital copy in exchange for my honest review. I think it's her best one yet! Can't wait for more Mercy and Truman.

Another GREAT adventure brought to you by Kendra Elliot!!! I love this series, they say all good things must come to an end, but I will truly be sad when this series ends.

I love when you see characters from one series connect/work with characters from a another series. The characters is this book are believable, tough when they have to be, they love fiercely, they protect those they love and sometimes those they hunt. Its like one big family and that works for me.

There is murder, mayhem, twists/turns, unexpected moments, some you got what you deserve moments, some heartbreaking, some heartwarming, and some about time moments.

If your looking for some hot sex scenes this isn't the book for you, but if your looking for a great adventure with lots of thrills than you need this book in your library.

If you haven't picked up any of Kendra's books than you really need to treat yourself because you won't be disappointed.

I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is a thrilling addition to the series; the action, suspense, twists and emotional turmoil in this story is amazing. Families are being brutally murdered in a hauntingly similar fashion to the past, and anti-government extremists are once again causing trouble. Police Chief Truman Daly and FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick suffer some intense physical and emotional damage as the try to unravel the complexities and solve the crimes. Your heart breaks at various points in this story, and for more than just the main characters, the emotions and fears feel so real. It really has you on the edge of your seat. It was great to see character from the authors Bones series make an appearance in this book. I love it when characters cross from one series to another, it creates a more complex world as a whole. This is an intense, heart pounding story that once started is really difficult to put down.

This is the fourth book in the series and it takes it to the next level. There is so much action and suspense in this book. It’s intense and Mercy and Truman are subjected to such internal anguish. This series keeps getting better and better. And this one was absolutely epic.

It was the perfect blend of mystery, suspense and romance. I love Mercy & Truman, I love how their minds work, I love the aspect of their law enforcement expertise. I don’t do spoilers but I will say at parts of this story my heart was breaking for Mercy.

I was literally engrossed in this story, it had so many twists and turns. I couldn’t put it down. This author literally grabs you and sucks you in. It’s well written and her voice is unique. I’m so looking forward to more.
