I absolutely love Katie Marsh and was pleased to be approved for The Rest of Me. The story starts with a member of Alex Fox’s family who is a chronically ill, but as the story unfolds it become so much more than this. It deals with various issues surrounding this family in a sensitive and though-provoking manner, whilst keeping an air of humility and introducing a few humorous moments. Katie’s latest book did not disappointment me and yet again I adored it.

Alex is a woman who thought she had everything- a successful career, two healthy daughters and a loving husband. But when we meet her things have taken a downturn. Alex’s husband Sam had become so ill she was forced to take on more roles around the home including career for all the family, main bread winner and successful career woman. And when we meet her for the first time she has also just donated a kidney. It is interesting to see how Alex deals with a range of struggles in trying to build her family back up, however, I did feel it didn’t challenge the view of working women, but perhaps reinforce societies views which was disappointing. This is really my only criticism but I found it a real shame.
The issue of bullying and how serious it can be was dealt with well and there were some really believable moments but I often felt the characters needed a good shake and it was irritating how many times they found reasons not to talk to their loved ones. Kind of the whole point but still annoying.
Sad and thought provoking with some positive messages, but also perhaps some opportunities missed.

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and review.
This book is amazing from the start, told from different points of view by the family. Alex donated a kidney to her husband Sam.
This is beautifully written with real life issues that I could relate to.

I definitely recommend this is a top read.

Alex Fox is a lady of lists. A mother of two and a driven career woman, she has a lot on her plate. She about to go into surgery to donate one of her kidneys to her husband Sam. Sam is desperately ill and this is the only chance to save him. This heart-wrenching tale of Alex, Sam and their daughters Jenna and Izzy was one of the best reads I've come across in recent times. Such a relatable story of how the past shapes our present, of modern lives and the challenges that gave us. I found the characters intensly relatable, I could feel Alex's anguish, frustrations and need for control, I could feel Izzy's confusion, the need to appear strong for her mother.. A beautiful book, an un-put-downable one, one which will stay with me awhile.
