When Gwendolyn “Gwen” Allen first meets Reilly “Ry” O’Malley he saves her from an unsavory character. Gwen falls for Ry immediately and makes her feelings known that she loves him. Ry tells Gwen that she can’t fall for someone like him but instead offers to be her friend. As Gwen grows up there is one constant in her life, Ry, who utterly becomes her best friend. So, Gwen runs away from her feelings of love and leaves for Venezuela. Gwen stays away and even meets a worthy guy that even proposes to her. Gwen feels as if she can’t refuse so accepts. While Gwen is in Venezuela, she is almost killed yet manages to survive along with her betrothed. Gwen goes home and luckily Ry is there waiting for her. Gwen is so happy to see Ry that she hugs him. Ry is so glad that Gwen is home until he meets Gwen’s soon to be husband. The more Ry meets Gwen’s guy he doesn’t like him and realizes that in truth he really loves Gwen. Ry is approached by the Fates and Ry lets slip that Gwen is his soul mate. The only problem Ry will have to convince Gwen to give up on being betrothed and love him instead.
This is truly an amazing time travel story that I enjoyed reading! I did have trouble putting it down too. Yes, it is the last book in the series and there is some confusion because I didn’t read the other books in the series. I would have benefitted from reading the first three books just so I could learn the other characters. So, at first, I did have some difficulty getting into the story because of that but as soon as I did get into the story, I was just enjoying it. I just loved Gwen her spirit and independence! Okay maybe I had a bit of a girl crush on her too. Reilly did bother me especially when he was just so ignorant to Gwen’s love. I almost wanted to slap or shake him because he really deserved it. Still, he wasn’t a bad guy he just needed to say what he was feeling, yet I did understand his reticence too. Yes, it was a true page-turner but there is one big loose end at the end, that hopefully Ms. Nancy Scanlon will write more about Claire. I do plan to read the other book in the series now after reading this book though now.

TBR — i hope to revisit this title.

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I was challenged in reading this as it is the fourth book in the series but it is the first one I have read. I really enjoyed the story and the approach was quite different to what I have come to expect from similar storylines. That was nice. Though I came to the series several books in, I wasn't lost when it came to the character dynamics, though I was missing chunks of the back story. The one drawback for me in the story is that the main point of conflict drew out way too long.

I love time travel books because you get a taste of the past and the present with a little bit of fantasy thrown in. This book is no exception. It was highly entertaining, and I felt deep compassion for Gwen who has loved Reilly for so many years that she finally gives up and starts to move forward with her life and another person.

Having never loved a person like Gwen did in this book. I felt the author did a superb job of convincing me through words and actions the emotions this would have invoked in Gwen as she let go of his constant presence in her life.

Poor Reilly taken as a child and trained to be a protector has no true life other than just that. Protecting. I can imagine how lonely that would be watching people be born, marry, have children then die, and repeat with the next generation. For me I would get depressed after a while, so I completely understand Rielly's desire for more. for his chance to love and be loved.

When the Fates step in and start playing with Rielly and Gwen's lives the story gets much more interesting. Both of these two people need to let go and expand themselves to other possibilities and to dare to dream of a happy ever after.

I give this 4 STARS for being thoroughly enjoyable read.

Reilly O’Malley has been certain of everything except Gwendolyn Allen. He’s been in love with her for ten years, but he’s afraid of committing to his “life mate”. When Gwen learns that all Protectors are destined for one woman only Gwen has finally realized she’s not his life mate. Gwen gives up on Reilly ever returning her feeling is trying to move on and marry another man, a man to build a life with and have a family. How like a man to decide to change his feeling on claiming his mate when she decides to get married to someone else. Gwen and Reilly really are soul mates, they don’t feel complete unless their together. For Gwen she never feels any safer than when she is with Reilly. Now Reilly has his hands full trying to figure out to convince Gwen he really does love her and only her. An enchanting story of two stubborn people who desperately love one another, but won’t admit it. Read along to see how the tide turns and love wins the day every time. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I have not read all the books in this series but had just finished book 3 when I saw this on netgalley. While I think you could have read this as a stand alone, it really is much better to have read the previous book.

Wow, there is so much depth of emotion in this story as Gwen has loved Reilly since she met him ELEVEN years ago. Unfortunately, Reilly felt that he could not do his job as the leader of the Protectors and claim his soul mate so he keeps Gwen at a distance and rejects her attempts at anything more than friendship.

I loved that Gwen did not roll over and let Reilly change his mind but really made him work for her love! Finally, Reilly woke up and realized that he could have Gwen, love , and a family. When Gwen read the words that Reilly had carved into the furniture that he made, I about cried, that was so sweet.

I am hoping that we get more info in the next book as it was never explained why the past was changing when his mother and sister married.

Loved that the Fates learned from their "mistakes" and were going a new direction and their choice was not a surprise to me....lol I am really looking forward to the next book as I am really into this family of time travelers.

Falling Through Time by Nancy Scanlon
Mists of Fate #4

Reilly O’Malley is a hunk and a half BUT kind of dense when it comes to Gwendolyn Allen. He might have wanted to give her time to grow up but after ten years of being in the friend-zone with her she is ready to move on and find her happily ever after…especially when something rather dreadful happens in Venezuela. The man she decides to marry is not interested in letter Gwen stay besties with Reilly and can see, even if she can’t, that Reilly wants a whole lot more than friendship. It takes most of the book for Reilly to finally realize that if he doesn’t make a move soon he will lose Gwen AND the Fates step in to make things worse…until they step in again to make things better. For the most part this was an enjoyable book BUT I really got frustrated with both Gwen and Reilly from time to time. For people that were so “smart” they said and did some rather unsmart things. It seems that the next book will be one about a woman stepping into the defender-time traveler business and I am curious to find out how that might turn out.

Thank you to NetGalley and Diversion Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

3-4 Stars

I don't usually read time travel, but I really enjoyed this one. It had all the feels and it was a good story.

Good easy read. I enjoyed the main characters' banter and the overall role reversals were a refreshing change. However, a few of the middle chapters seem to meander. Plus the leading man's motivation and mission seem a bit flimsy (what's he saving the country from?).

Falling Through Time, the fourth book in the Mists of Fate series is the best yet. Reilly and Gwen meet almost by accident, or maybe it was fate. These two have an instant connection, but Reilly never allows anything to happen between them. Reilly is Gwen’s safe place and I think she really is his, he just cannot admit it. Gwen, a trust fund baby, really wants to do good in the world not just donate to good causes. She wants to be the instrument of good.

Gwen meets Anthony, he falls in love with her and she is ready to settle down to the husband, kids and maybe a white picket fence. Gwen knows she will never have that with Reilly. He turned her down in the worst of ways. Sadly, she continues to return to Reilly when she needs to feel safe. Watching her friends die, almost dying herself, PTSD, survivor guilt, all of it sends her back into Reilly’s arms.

I was beginning to think Reilly was never going to own up to his true feelings. The Fates and the exchange of a person in time fit well within the story. The one and done for Protectors – great add in. All of it combined makes for an extraordinary romantic tale.

Allow me to say, I did not care for Reilly ‘having needs’ but constantly pushing Gwen away. That part of a woman coming to his room to relieve those needs could have been left out. I kind of like my heroes to have a bit of loyalty/moral ethics even if he is not doing it with the heroine. He is the one who went without her for 12 years!

But, I would not let that keep you from enjoying a great read. With that one exception Falling Through Time is worth your time.

How long can you wait for the one that you love? Gwen knows that things are about to change in her life and she is scared of what will happen with her best friend Riley once she tells him that she is moving on. She has loved him for the a longest time and she just can't wait anymore for him to make his move. She is engaged to a good man that she knows will look after her and she is happy to settle for that. Riley can't believe that she is engaged and that she kept it from him and he knows that he has to let her go but it is crushing him as he loves her but he can't ever have her. Riley has always been the one to look after the protectors and he has always known that he would never have a soul mate and that is why he has never taken his friendship with Gwen any further. He has just found out that the Fates have used him for so many years and he never questioned their ways just did what was expected but what if Gwen is his soulmate and he has wasted so much time? Gwen knows that she will need to say goodbye to Riley soon but first she wants to meet his mother and to see how Riley grew up. The Fates have given him a choice Gwen needs to claim him as her soul mate or he will be alone forever. But how does he get Gwen to accept that he loves her and it has always only been her? Gwen loves travelling with Riley and going back to see his mother is the piece of the puzzle that has always been missing even though she knows that this is her final trip with her time travelling friend she wants to enjoy it and treasure these memories forever. But things don't work out she can't claim him and goes back to the future without him.. The fates have rewritten history and Riley is about to lose his life and she can't stand by and allow that to happen, she loves him too much to just leave him there to die. Will Gwen and his fellow travelers be able to get to him in time? A great read. Riley & Gwen so deserved to be together and to be deeply on love for the rest of their lives. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.

It was entertaining, but it lacked the real danger that was present in the previous books.
Here the only danger is psychological: will they remain together or not.

It was nicely written, but it was really dragged out.

I was so looking forward to Reilly's book and I was let down...

Reilly, instead of being the man of action, a man without fear, here was a teenage boy afraid of its own shadow! He just couldn't decide nothing! Shall he tell Gwen that she's his mate? What if she reject him? What if he has to keep time-hopping and she remains alone? And will she love him still? What if, what if, what if....

<b...chicken, chicken...</b>

Gwen was better, because she knew she was in love with Reilly and she did everything in her power to let him know, but since he kept rejecting her she was very obviously afraid to believe his change of mind.

So, you see, this book is one long, long drama-lama...

I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Gwen met Reilly 10 years ago and has been in love with him ever since. They are best friends, would do anything for each other but Reilly treats her only as a friend.

Reilly has secrets he can't tell Gwen and these secrets are why he doesn't pursue a relationship. He is a time traveler for the Fates and has been since the 13th century. His "job" is very unpredictable, he doesn't know where or how long he will be away so he doesn't feel he can have a relationship with Gwen. Gwen does eventually learn about the time travel but not the details behind it.

They see each other as much as they can as Reilly lives in Ireland and Gwen in the US. Both travel and talk quite a bit.

Will Reilly get his act together before he totally loses Gwen? Will the fates interfere?

I totally loved this story! These characters drew me right in and I didn't want to stop reading. The author gave us good background info on the characters and I really liked them both. They were good people.

Gwen came from money and her parents pressed her to marry well, which means a politician to them. Gwen didn't care about the money per se, she had quality belongings but was very unpretentious. She wisely invested her money and gets to do what she loves, helping those in need. This takes her from the US to many other countries and some very dangerous areas.

Reilly came from what we would call middle class and is a furniture builder.

Besides the story, of course, the authors writing gives you visualization in your mind as you read. I don't know how many times I muttered "Reilly, get your act together before you lose her!" Lol.

I would recommend this book and I'm going to check out others in the series!

Two Rolexes? That's a bit of overkill, isn't it?

Bev, do you know what century it is?

"Furniture maker", my butt.

Remind me never to go to Venezuela.

They kinda sound like an old married couple.

Men!

She's time-traveled with them? Cool!

Anthony is a jerk.

Whoa, this is some crazy stuff.

Erm, time travel might not be the best idea right now, with her PTSD and all...

Anthony who?

This shop would take all my money.

Yikes, she really should be banned from the kitchen!

Is this a motorcycle or a space station?

Freaky. He must want to make so many improvements to make his mom's life easier, but most of them would get her branded as a witch.

Well yeah, it's Hugh Jackman! He's lovely in person.

Ha, she played him!

Whoa, boy. Put on the brakes. Don't you think a first date is in order, before, you know, marriage?

He's a good son.

They're both idiots.

At least we know time travel isn't perfect.

Nutella is pretty good.

This is a good proposal. Kind of really beats his idea.

I knew it!

I really enjoyed this novel. As I read, I could tell it was a series and I had missed some information as not reading the books before book 4, but it didn't limit my enjoyment. The story was well written and sweet. I am going to look into this author and backtrack through the previous books.

Falling through time is a classic time travel romance. The togetherness mixed with family, adventure and romance make this installment a fun read. It's definetly not a stand alone book. Could use more lovers romance but a great read!

I just jumped into this book as I enjoy the time travel genre. I haven't read any of the prior titles, but it is a fairly good stand alone. It was a little slow in the beginning, but I really enjoyed the story when they traveled to the past. I really like Reilly, Gwen is a bit of a pain. At times, I was yelling, get over yourself! :) Its a fun read, imagining what it would be like to visit another time, and to compare the differences of everyday life. Very intriguing to think about. It's a romance novel with a touch of supernatural thrown in.

I loved this book while I was reading it, I was totally hooked into the wee hours. However, when it was all finished, I was still bothered by our Hero's attitude towards his mate. I am also confused by the 1 and done motto when apparently he seemed to have a system in place for some woman to come to his room after his fights because "he has needs", despite finding his mate:(
I wish we could have gotten his side told after her acceptance that would have vindicated him; like he didn't realize he had a mate, like I originally thought - I wish it would have stayed that way.
It is still a great read and I followed along quite well despite having not read the previous 3 books in this series.
