This was a really short book for the hard hitting subject matter it was about. The story is about Will as he goes through his life and his friend "Playa" going through the aftermath of sexual assault. It was a very nice little book and it was more in a free-form poetry kind of format. It was really quick to get through and it was just really short. I don't really have much of an opinion since it was so short.

I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

TW for sexual assault and suicide.

I don't really know where I stand with this book. I feel as if the story had no point to it. The writing style had me intrigued but the dialogue was not good.

It was written in an interesting format - 100 words per chapter with a total of 100 chapters which made it a quick read.

The author brought up a number of heavy topics but they were never dealt with. They were just introduced and brushed aside. I wish there was more of a discussion on what and how the victim felt, rather than this random guy (the protagonist) who just happened to know her. The protagonist made the victim's trauma about himself.

I believe the protagonist was in high school but he read as way, way younger. I found him incredibly annoying and did not feel an ounce of sympathy for him.

I initially liked the book. However, as I read on, I found myself constantly taken out of the story with the issues I had with it.

I liked this story. A lot. I just think I would have loved this story if it was using a different format. Through out the entire book I really enjoyed the limitations of 100 word chapters, but then the story ended rather abruptly.

I am impressed with how much the story has to offer under these constraints and I was left wanting so much more of these characters. It is a story with a lot of emotion, a lot of deep in your heart kind of feelings that demand to resonate with the reader.

A book review in 100 words.

This story was so touching. Love the idea of the 100 chapters each 100 words each. Some passages are wonderfully abstract and then some passages hit you like a gut punch. It takes no time to understand and love the characters and feel their pain and grief. Overall absolutely loved how much I felt in this story.

What an interesting format. 100 words on 100 pages for a total of 100 chapters.
Even If this book is really short in itself, there is a lot in those pages.
I enjoyed the writing style, It’s a powerful short story focusing in the moments, thoughts, apprehension, and finding happiness in small things. Even if I loved the book, I wish I could have connected a bit more with the characters, it’s not because the characters weren’t enough, it’s just that I needed more from them.

Overall, it was a really good read. I will definitely read more from that author.

Thanks to Simon & Schuster Canada and Netgalley for the free e-arc

I devoured this book in one sitting. I loved the one-hundred word format as it gave the story a beautiful rhythm. A short text with incredible emotional punch.
