Book two in the Jess Bishop series:

Jess is back to the grindstone and working hard! Maybe just a tad sooner than she should be. But when she gets wind of a potential serial killer hunting young school age girls...well you know, there’s no stopping that girl!
Jess is a special agent with the FBI fighting the personal demons from her past while simultaneously tracking down the living demons walking free.

The team around her are all strong, colorful characters who support and keep a close eye on her. Yes even Jamison! Good colleagues…good friends.

This is a shorter book under 300 pages and reads super-fast, but there’s a lot of action jam-packed into this speedy book. And of course, there’s also the all-important emphasis on Jess’s personal life too! Come on Jess! Tear down those walls and let someone in!!

Enjoyed this book more than book one, and am looking forward to continuing with this series.

A super quick and fun Traveling Sister read with Brenda, Susanne and Lindsay!

I received a digital ARC copy of #CrossYourHeart(detectiveJessBishopBook2) from #NetGalley for an honest review.

Wow what a book! I read it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down! I am emotionally spent! My heart was pounding for the majority of this book, especially as we get closer to discover who the serial killer is. I thought I'd worked it out twice, and twice I was wrong. When it was finally revealed I was shocked. I had not seen that coming. I haven't read the first Jessica Bishop book but I would definitely read more in the future, and am already hoping for a third installment.

I was lost in the dark, unearthly craggy coulee with Lindsay, Kaceey and Susanne reading Cross Your Heart and we really enjoyed reading this one together. Kierney Scott takes us down another jagged rocky path here with Detective Jess Bishop.

Cross Your Heart is a chilling and disturbing story that pulled us deep into the coulee not wanting to leave till we finish this gripping story. The story picks up after the devastating events that left Jess with an injury. We follow her as she deals with the events that caused her injury. She thinks she is ready and is determined to get back to work. When a young girl is taken and Jess is cleared and back to work she sees some connections to cold cases of three missing girls, she is determined to solve the case.

Kierney Scott does a good job developing these likable, flawed, damaged and interesting team of characters. We all really loved the dynamics between them and we grew to love and care for them even more.

With the same sense of tension as the first one, we enjoyed the twists and turns right to the satisfying ending We highly recommend reading Forget Me Not first and then quickly follow it with Cross Your Heart!

Coulee: a term applied rather loosely to different landforms, all of which refer to a kind of valley.

"I wanted her to have one perfect day, that's it."

Special Agent Jessica Bishop is finally back to work after an altercation with a killer destroyed the use of one of her hands. She's a mess in every way but fights for the right to return to her team. While she was off on sick leave, she found a link between missing young girls that indicated a serial killer was at work. At first her fellow agents don't believe her, but then another girl goes missing. The signature is the same. Can they stop another young child's death?

This was the second book in a series featuring this character and I can't say that I liked Jess Bishop well enough to continue on. Way too much mental angsting and she is really screwed up in many ways. I didn't care for her at all and honestly can't believe that the FBI would have someone so emotionally and physically damaged working for them. Most of this was unbelievable and I never got too involved with the story. The conclusion was unsurprising and I don't know that I care to see any more cases or a further story about Jessica Bishop. She's such a stereotype of all the messed up female law enforcement personnel and I'm tired of the lack of a normal woman in the role. The other characters were merely sidebars to Jessica and no one struck me as being of further interest. I never really felt much tension or suspense as the novel progressed so can't say this was a thriller for me. It was OK and I have no doubts that some fans will enjoy it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the e-book ARC to read and review.

4.5 stars! My love for FBI Special Agent Jess Bishop has grown even more after finishing this gripping and suspenseful Book #2 in this fantastic series!

Jess is working a case to find a serial killer who abducts and murders young, vulnerable girls. Jess discovers a link that connects several cold murder cases, bringing the FBI hot on the trail of an aggressive serial killer. Jess and her team have such an entertaining comraderie - their personalities are very different, yet compliment each other so well.

I flew through this book! I found it highly suspenseful, perfectly paced and grippingly addictive! I can’t wait to see what happens with Jess in the next book in the series!

A big thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Kierney Scott for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This is a really good read. Jess is a really complicated character with a lot of issues and secrets of her own. The story is really well put together and kept me gripped and on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The descriptions of the characters and the plot are brilliant. I hope that there will be more in this series.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

5☆ An Addictive Read I couldn't put down!

Cross Your Heart is the second book in the series.

Wow oh wow I was completely blown away by this thrilling and compulsive read.

Cross your heart is a story about a serial killer who has been killing young girls over a period of time.

Special Agent Jess Bishop started looking into the cases of these young girls and found a link. Blue cotton candy left under the finger nails and each child has had some kind of abuse.

However the Killer has struck again abducting a young girl from the hospital.

Jess is determined to catch the killer before he strikes again.

But Jess is battling her own demons.
With severe injuries to her hand from a previous horrific case she was involved in and childhood memories she would rather bury.

Can she catch the killer or will she be embroiled in a dangerous cat and mouse chase.

I loved Jess, she is a kick ass detective but is also deeply flawed. She uses sex with random men as a coping mechanism to block out the pain and memories from her past.
But despite her flaws she is strong, determined and very good at her job.

I absolutely loved reading this Taut Thriller, Kierney has created well thought-out characters and a twisting plot that really is a perfectly paced read, creating  gripping Suspense throughout the book.

My only regret is not reading the first book in the series as Jess is such an intriguing character I really want to know more about her past and how she injured her hand.

Cross your heart can be read as a standalone, but If you like back stories then it would be a good idea to read book 1.

This book does contain sensitive issues such as child abuse and murder.

If you love fast paced gripping detective crime thrillers with an addictive storyline which I devoured in 1 day. Then you will really enjoy Cross your heart!

I can't wait to read more from Kierney Scott.

Wow again like the first book in the series a slow start for me and again just brilliant when it picked up. Jess is trying to get back on the job despite both her physical and emotional injuries. While on sick leave she investigates a case that will have far reaching results for her and the whole team. Another page turner- I’m already looking forward to number 3 in the series

4 Stars

FBI Agent Jess Bishop is damaged. In more ways than one. If you ask her, of course she’ll deny it. Yet all you have to do is look at her mangled hand which bears evidence of her last case, to see it. While recuperating she investigated cases on her own and she found something. Young girls who have gone missing in the area - all of whom were found with blue cotton candy under their fingernails.

Ava is a terminally ill girl. She is taken from the hospital, a bag of blue cotton candy left on her bed. This is it. Ava is the link and soon the entire team investigates, including Jess’ partner Agent Chan and Jess’ former partner, Jamison, who returns after being injured. Yet things are not the same between she and Jamison. They will never be the same. Not after what went down.

Enmeshed in the investigation, things go awry. Jess takes risks she knows she shouldn’t and yet, for her, there is no other way. She cannot outrun her demons. All she can do is hide in her work and do her best to track a killer before it’s too late.

“Cross Your Heart” by Kierney Scott is one heck of a mystery/suspense. I was all in. Jess Bishop, Agent Chan, Jamison and Lindsay are characters you can’t help but absolutely love. They are damaged, soulful and are as real as you and I. This is the second book in the Jess Bishop series and I highly recommend that you read book 1 first as it gives you background into the characters.

I read this with Brenda, Kaceey and Lindsay. We all love these characters and were fully invested.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Kierney Scott for a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

While on medical leave, FBI Special Agent Jess Bishop has started an unofficial investigation on a cold case. A serial killer has been targeting little girls. When she is reinstated, the case takes on an official nature. More critical details are now available to Jess, but then another little girl is abducted. Time is of the essence, as they are desperate to locate her, especially since they do not have many leads. The only thing that they do have is a common link between all of the girls.

Meanwhile, Jess is still running from her own personal demons. In Kierney Scott’s first book in the series, Forget Me Not, we learned much about Jess and what makes her tick. In the first book we learned about what Jess experienced and how it has affected who she is now. However, if she was already a dark, disconnected soul, then she is ever more so now. This is due to her last case where she was injured and almost lost her partner Jamison – who is extremely special to her. So she must now struggle with her personal traumas while racing against time to prevent another little girl from being snatched.

Cross Your Heart is an excellent one-sitting read! When I got this book for review, I decided to read the first in the series. This is a habit of mine really. I like connecting with the characters and by reading these two titles back-to-back I felt as if I knew all of the players really well, especially Jess. This characterization, as well as a fast-moving plot, kept me riveted to the story. This book has a sharp twist and incredible sadness to it also. I kept wishing, obviously, for the perpetrator to be stopped, but also for Jess and Jamison. I have a strong feeling that as the series progresses, that they can heal, even just to be able to be friends again. Only time will tell. One thing is for sure, Kierney Scott has a new fan in me.

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC to review.

Cross Your Heart, the second book in the Detective Jess Bishop series written by Kierney Scott and boy what follow-up to this incredible Detective Thriller Series.

Three cold cases, all young girls gone missing, the only link is a small bag of cotton candy, Detective Jess Bishop has happened across the cases whilst on medical leave, now she has returned, fighting to be heard, fighting to open the cold cases and delve deeper into the forgotten girls.

Bishop’s worst nightmare is realised when another child is snatched, the hunt is on to save Ava a young girl who is seriously ill, removed from her hospital bed. Jess and her team are forced almost to the very edge but time is not on there side.

It was strange to see Jess and Chan partnered up together but the friction with Jamieson due to the aftermath of his injury caused by Jess is almost palpable. Jess wants nothing more for Jamieson to forgive her, but are the bonds between them broken forever, only time will tell if they can ever work together again. Even so the interaction between Chan and Jess is hilarious at times but he can be quite a handful and Jess struggles with his standoffish behaviour. Although the team is divided and some what lack confidence in Jess, they still band together to catch the person behind the blue cotton candy.

Trauma from Jess’s childhood and her recent injury, bubbles under the surface threatening to boil over no matter how much she tries to dampen it down with her secret means of coping, is Jess going to go to far, is she close to losing her self worth, only time will tell.

Cross Your Heart is an astounding piece of work, a throat clenching, emotional thriller which sent my heart racing to the point I was sobbing my heart out at one stage, Kierney utterly floored me with Cross your heart.

Thanks to Bookouture, Kierney Scott, and Noelle Holten for the advanced readers copy of Cross Your Heart to read in exchange for an unbiased honest opinion.

A creepy kid napping investigation turns even creepier as the story unravels, Cross Your Heart is a detective crime thriller that will have you guessing!
I had my suspicions about half way through the story. I wasn't totally convinced I figured out who was behind the mysterious disappearance of young girls who seem to be connected by the same events (the way they were found dressed, the sand in their hair, the cotton candy traces under their finger nails.)
Even though my suspicions were founded at the end, the details surrounding the abductor and why they were driven to do what they did were still shocking!
If you enjoy detective crime thrillers, you will be sure to enjoy this book! Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture, and Kierney Scott for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This is a great psychological thriller that keeps you guessing. We're back with the tormented FBI agent, Jessica, along with her demons. I'd strongly recommend that you read 'Forget me not', the first book. However, this stands alone as an excellent thriller, should you wish. You can always go back to the first book!
She's as frustrating as in the first book and there are some obvious clues and situations that it's difficult to believe she misses / ignores, but, despite that, it's a really good read.

Jess is hunting someone who is taking children and it builds the suspense throughout, without any need for gruesome imagery, a real talent.

I loved it and highly recommend.

Many thanks to net galley, bookoutre and Kierney Scott for the ARC.

Absolutely loved this book. At the start we got the setting, the pace was set, the it quicker and quicker like a race to the end! Unputdownsble as wanted to know what was going to happen next. Loved Jess Bishop. Very good descriptive writing, drew you into the story and what a plot! Have not read this author before but was not disappointed, will certainly be reading more from them

I have never read anything by Kierney Scott previous to this but I really enjoyed it. It's the second in a series so I felt that I missed some parts as it references the storyline of book one often but it didn't take anything away from this storyline.

Jess Bishop is an FBI agent with a troubling past so when she wakes up shackled in a room, she knows she can deal with what's coming. She is chasing a serial killer of young girls who leaves blue cotton candy with each body - she doesn't want to allow Ava to die so she fights against the monster to save her.

A great storyline, a feisty but a bit reckless female lead with twists and turns throughout - I was not expecting that ending! I may have to go backwards and read book one now!

This is the second book In a series featuring Detective Jess Bishop and what a read! We were first introduced to Jess in ‘Forget Me Not’ and ‘Cross Your Heart’ follows on with Jess desperate to return to work after the developments of the first book, this book can be read as a standalone but you will be missing so much if you don’t read ‘Forget Me Not’. Jess is one tough cookie, returning back to work when she certainly isn't fit enough both mentally and physically. She has been looking at the unsolved deaths of 3 young girls. Her team are convinced they are not linked until a young dying girl is taken from the hospital and her abductor leaves a clue that definitely links them. Jess and her team are then having to work against the clock before time runs out. This is a gripping and pacy read, you will find it difficult to put down. So many twists and turns and an unexpected conclusion that will leave you gasping, can’t wait for book number three.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review another brilliant book.

Book 2 for Detective Jess Bishop who is recovering from an injury and suffering trauma. Jess is a flawed character but a very good detective. This time her team is investigating a child serial killer. Lots going on in this story with an excellent plot and thought provoking characters. Looking forward to book 3 in the series. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads, Amazon and Facebook.

I’ll start by saying that I haven’t actually read the first book in the series, ‘Forget Me Not’, which is a shame as it would have set me up to understand better what had happened to Special Agent Jess Bishop and her hand injury. Judging by the plot of this book, I missed a fantastic story. However, apart from some little details this book most definitely can be read as a standalone.

Kierney Scott certainly knows how to write an amazing thriller. This book had me captivated and on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The story was intense right from the off.

Special Agent Bishop is an incredible character. She is flawed, has lots of personal issues and is used to burying her emotions with night-time visits to men. They help numb her pain. She is also gutsy and has a strong determination and very focused on her job.

I like characters that aren’t squeaky clean, they come across far more realistic. Jess was just a wonderful character to spend my time with.

When Ava, the eight-year-old dying from cancer is taken from her hospital bed by the serial killer I was really shocked. This isn’t the kind of plot that you normally read about. Yes, young children kidnapped and murdered, but those that are already dying did make me think how ballsy the author was to take her story in that direction.

Normally with thrillers I get so far through them and then some hint is given and I know exactly who the ‘culprit’ is. This book kept me guessing right until the killer was revealed. I wasn’t expecting it to be who it was.

The book is just fabulous. It’s gritty, dark in places and gets under your skin, grabbing hold of you. I now need to read book one and hope for a book three.
