Unfortunately this book just wasn’t for me. The writing was good, and I can see why other people will like this book, but it just wasn’t for me.

This was an interesting read. While I'm not a fan of running myself I wish I was because I can truly understand the benefits it offers to those who enjoy it as a pastime pursuit, While I saw the benefits that running and the camaraderie it involved offered Eliza here I couldn't help feeling how depressing this story was with such misfortune following 0ur main protagonists Eliza, Edith and Marcus. What we did learn was interesting but I couldn't help wanting more form the book, wanting to know more about each of these three characters. I enjoyed the book though and I'm looking forward to reading more from Lynne Chitty in the future.

A interesting read about a family, past secrets and starting over. I liked the atmospheric sense of the book and the beautiful island. The charcters are deeply flawed and each has their own secrets . It is a good build up throughout with the individual stories of each until a satisfying conclusion. A good afternoon read.

Incredibly skillful description breathes life into landscapes and characters, leading you to feel that you have seen and met the places and people involved. A fascinating book, looking into the minds of the three main characters, Eliza, Edith and Marcus There were times that I could not put this book down, I just wanted to keep read just to find out how it was going to end. . I haven’t read anything from this author and I hope that she will come out with another book. A great book.

On the cover we see a mountain landscape, the nascent mist.

We find Elyza who has a post-traumatic past that finally realizes his dream to visit the Isle of Skye. Being used to avoiding the company, the top she will be served because she will be invited to participate in the half marathon of Portree. She will discover for the first time the joys of happiness, camaraderie. Except that once back home a new tragedy will awaken her past memories.

I loved reading this book but no more, I found it not long enough, but the story of Elyza was moving, captivating and his character was endearing.

3.5 A rather simple story, centered around three characters, Eliza, Edith and Marcus. All three carry scars from a terrible event , an event that is referenced but not told in detail to the end. Edith, confined to her bed mourns many things from the past. Marcus, trying to reclaim a semblance of his old life after his release from prison, but has a anger problem that continued to rear it ugly head. Eliza, suffering from the result of a personal trauma, runs to the Isle of Skye to try to heal. We hear from each of them in alternating long paragraphs.

A simple story, but done very well, with some gorgeous prose. The Isle of Skye, almost a character itself with some gorgeous descriptive sentences.

"Skye made a child of you, Eliza thought. It made you wonder and play and believe in magic."

"Every moment of every day Skye was alive. Mist, clouds, sun, haze water, always changing, always on the move."

I have had a secret yearning to visit this island myself, but have to settle to reading about it in books. A slower paced story, a story that shows that prisons come in all shapes and sizes. Breaking out takes courage and healing. A twist at the end finishes the book rather well. A good first novella. This author can write, and I hope she continues to do so.

This novella follows Eliza, Edith and Maurcas during the time after Maurcas is released from prison. A wonderful story that highlights resiliency and strength, as well as the difficulties faced by those who have suffered trauma. This story captured the experiences of three individuals and took the reader on a journey to seeing life through the eyes of women, a mother, a sister, a son and half brother in an enthralling way. A wonderful first novella by this author.

Eliza has had a hard time but is trying to get on with her life. Time on Skye just might help her. Unfortunately her brother is back and that spells trouble for everyone, WIll she put the past behind her and move on?
The imagery in this novella transports you to Skye. You can almost smell the coast. A really enjoyable novella.

A little slow to start, as trying to stay in touch with who is who. Three main characters, of Eliza, and her mother Edith and half-brother Marcus. Eliza is on vacation to the Isle of Skye when she finds out her brother has been released early from prison. Her mother is bed-ridden, and her brother is arrogant and cruel. Most of the story has each character with their own section in each chapter, so the reader hears all three voices. Interesting way to write, and works well. A sad story, and made me weep for all that Eliza and Edith went through because of him. Not a HEA at the end, but there is hope for a better tomorrow. Would recommend this book and author.
