I absolutely fell in love with "The Lies We Told" by Camilla Way. For the several days it took me to complete this book, nothing much got done except for reading!

The story is told by alternating chapters between 2 narrators and time periods and you keep wondering how the 2 stories relate until about halfway through the book. And then .............!

If you love a great psychological thriller, then this book is for you. Just make sure to clear your schedule first because you won't want to go stop reading!

this book follows a past and present story line that eventually connects as you continue reading, so you spend most of the novel trying to piece together how the two time lines relate and why they are even important to one another. I found some characters very suspicious from the beginning but kept questioning myself as the story progressed, the author leads you to believe some people are shady but then you aren't completely convinced.
I thought it all wrapped up well too, a nice little plot twist, no happily ever after etc.
I found when everything was laid out and all the truths were shared and as a reader you finally have all the pieces to the puzzle, that it was all very well done.
It starts as just a missing person story but it is so much more than that. A missing young man, who has a family history of missing persons. A girlfriend who finds out her missing boyfriends past isn't what she thought at all. And a girl who just wanted to be loved but doesn't know how to love herself.
This took me by surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Great read! It’s obvious that the 2 story lines will collide in this suspenseful novel but you are kept guessing and trying to figure it out almost the entire time.
I enjoyed the writing style and the story was entertaining and enjoyable. The ending was a bit rushed.

I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Berkley Publishing & NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book - all opinions are my own.

This book was a PHENOMENAL read for me - I flew through the pages, and was so annoyed anytime I had to stop to go be an adult. It had everything you can ask for in a psychological suspense - unreliable narrators, flawed broken characters, tension, suspicion, mystery, and action. This story is so cleverly crafted that you don't quite know how it will all fit together until it falls into your lap.

I love how Camilla Way builds stories that move back and forth between the present day mystery at hand, and the history of the characters, slowly unwinding their secrets. Every chapter built on the tension, as you knew that something bad was coming, but it is was impossible to guess what, or just how bad. And Camilla did NOT disappoint.

I specifically love that part of this story centers on a child who is sociopathic/psychopathic. There is nothing more terrifying to me that children who are the evil beings in books - literally it is the most creepy thing to me, and this book served that up perfectly with Hannah.

I won't share any spoilers for this one, but I would ABSOLOUTELY recommend this to thriller lovers everywhere - this is one you don't want to miss.

This was one of those riveting, suspenseful books that hooked me from the start and kept me up all night reading. An intricate web of lies (going back in time and present day) drive this story in a way that shows suspense at its best.

Highly recommended. I'm checking out the author's previous work, and will be awaiting the next.

This book was...woah. It was a really great read and had me flipping through pages and kept me guessing until the end. There are two story lines in this book- one is 1980's Cambridge which follows Beth and her family, including her odd daughter Hannah and the other is Present-day London following Clara who is searching for her missing boyfriend. There was not much tying these two plot lines together, until they twist around each other in a way I never expected! This was a great thriller!

Beth has a daughter named Hannah. She discovers that Hannah isn’t normal or at least she thinks. Hannah doesn’t display any emotions. Hannah, though, does seem to take pleasure in hurting others. Why? Luke is another storyline who appears to have a perfect family. Clara his girlfriend finds out that he has disappeared. Will Clara and Luke’s family find him?

The plot of this story is filled with many half-truths and lies, not to mention secrets. I found myself wondering what was going to happen next when I found out what the truth was. When I read this novel, I was amazed at the horrible things people will do for the right (?) reasons. It is a mystery and thriller.

A very gripping book. This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it very much. It starts in London in 2017 and then flips back and forth to the 90s to provide background on the various characters. The main character is Clara, the girlfriend of a young man who has been abducted. Together with her friend Mac, they try to find out what happened to him. At the same time the reader is given a run-down of events that took place starting in the late 80s. At first there doesn't appear to be any connection between these events and the abduction but as the story unfolds, the connection becomes clearer, but there are many twists to keep the reader guessing. A fun read.

I finished reading THE LIES WE TOLD and WOW ...… It was BRILLIANT!!

Way introduces her readers to TWO (2) very different families: In 1986 (the past) we meet Beth and Doug. A young couple plaqued with infertility for years before finally having Hannah. BUT - Hannah is NOT a normal child – she is a sociopath!! A dark and deeply disturbed child that is sure to curl the hair on your arms! THEN (present day) 2017, we meet Clara and Luke. A young couple, just recently moved in together. Luke doesn’t come home one night and Clara suspect foul play. What secrets with Clara uncover about Luke’s disappearance? Is Luke in danger? What does Luke’s family have to do with this? Two families, two stories, two time frames that eventually become one .......

I LOVED this book! The secrets, the lies – there are so many! This multi-layered thriller is dark and twisted and it literally took my breath away! Easy to read, easy to follow and brilliantly written.

This book has every ingredient that a recipe for a fabulous thriller should have! It was based on lies, played on the sympathy of the reader, made everyone a suspect in a mystery that will have you guessing until the end, and wrapped up with an incredible plot twist that will leave you breathless!
Camilla Way created a storyline that wasn’t entirely unbelievable which made the characters seem real and everyday. She wrote a story from different perspectives that left me questioning myself as I read and my suspicions as the plot unraveled. I absolutely love a thriller that can keep my guessing until the end. (doesn’t happen often)
I loved loved loved this book and will no doubt read more of her work.

The Lies We Told was a fun, pacy, and twisted read; I had some ups and downs with it but ultimately it left me satisfied. It follows two seemingly disparate story lines; one centers on a mother, Beth, raising a sociopathic daughter in 1980s Cambridge, and one follows a young woman, Clara, in present-day London whose boyfriend has gone missing.

I tend to be decent at figuring out twists in thrillers, but I have to admit that The Lies We Told kept me guessing practically up to the last page. I didn’t have the faintest clue as to how the two plotlines were connected, which made for an entertaining ride, and I was very satisfied with the conclusion.

The writing isn’t anything spectacular and the character work leaves a lot to be desired (most characters are driven by a singular motivation and don’t have much of a personality outside that), but in terms of intricate plotting, Camilla Way nails it. Interestingly, I rather thought the opposite of her other novel that I’ve read, Watching Edie – I thought the characterization was fantastic, but that there wasn’t much of a plot holding the whole thing together up until the final reveal. The Lies We Told similarly hinges a lot of its payoff on a big twist, but unlike Watching Edie, it reveals information at a steady enough pace to keep you engaged from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a solid and gripping thriller.

What a great psychological thriller! This book had me guessing till the very end (and as I read a lot in this genre, I'm not usually surprised!) The two timelines are easy to follow and will have you turning the pages as quickly as possible - even when you don't really want the story to end.

This story goes from Cambridgeshire 1986 to London 2017. In Cambridgeshire, Doug and Beth adopt baby Hannah and then have a son, Toby. Beth has an uneasy feeling that something is wrong with Hannah as her eyes have a vacant look. Also, Hannah killed Beth's bird, set a fire at the babysitter's house and tried to harm her baby brother. In London, Clara and her boyfriend Luke have recently moved in together. Luke disappears on his way home from work one evening. Luke's best friend, Mac, helps Clara try to figure out what happened to him. As you read along, you wonder what one of these has to do with the other but as the story unfolds everything fits into place very nicely. This book is full of twist, turns and surprises which makes for a "I don't want to put this book down" read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good psychological thriller.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read The Lies We Told in exchange for my honest review. If you have ever wanted to read a true, honest, and textbook definition psychological thriller, this is the book for you.

The first line in this book talks about a decapitated head. Don’t worry, it’s only a bird’s head, but still, a decapitated head on the pillow next to a sleeping mother. If you like stories about psychopaths, pick this one up.

The story is told from 2 perspectives; Clara, a woman whose boyfriend just disappears one night, and Beth, the mother of a psychopath. I know what you are thinking, how on Earth could these two stories be related? I did at first. I thought this must be some crazy story where we get two stories for the price of one and then slowly they start to intertwine until they are so mashed together they are one. We get some background on both Clara’s boyfriend and Beth’s daughter, especially her childhood, where everything starts to make sense and puzzle pieces start to come together.

As the story goes on there are so many sick twists and turns, it is unreal. Just when you think you have the story figured out, boom, there goes another twist. Any other details other than what I have already told would ruin this book for you, so just go read it!

If you have read Baby Teeth, I feel like this is Hannah all grown up, in fact, the psychopath child’s name in this book in Hannah (that added a little more of a creep factor for me). This was such a deep, dark read. It really makes you wonder what exactly is going on in the author’s head. I finished it in 2 days, it is definitely a quick read, and more so because you need to see what happens next.

I am giving The Lies We Told a 4 star rating. You know I personally am a huge fan of solid endings and I felt this one kind of left us hanging a little. We know where Clara ends up, at least for the time being. Beth has told us all about Hannah and has left it open a little, maybe there will be a sequel? If there is, put me on the pre-order list today, I am dying to see what else this psychopath could do.
