This is the 5th book in the series but it can be read as a stand-alone. Jean-Luc can’t get Claire out of his mind since he and his HORNET teammates rescued her in Martinique. This time he planned to help her on his own and ends up in a Nigerian prison. What is worse is that the guards have contracted the illness that Claire is trying to cure. Will Claire get to him in time or is it already to late. This is a fast-paced romance with plenty of drama and suspense. I liked the characters and the story really takes you on a roller coaster ride. A Good Read!

This had a ton of running-for-our-lives action, gripping suspense, a truly evil villain and delivered a few heart pounding scares (at least for this reader!) along the way. The romance bit was not OTT but it was pretty instant and both MCs were so compatible that I was just happy to see them find happiness with each other. It didn’t hurt that things always heat up and go zero to sixty when they find themselves alone together :)

I haven’t read any of the previous books but didn’t find any hindrance to enjoying this one. It can definitely be read as a standalone. The ending does leave things open ended regarding the on-going plot and gives a sneak peek at the next book about Marcus (maybe?) but I liked how things were left regarding the MCs in this book.

I loved Claire, she was a strong heroine who wasn’t a damsel in distress, needing to be rescued. She found herself in tight spots but she always managed to carry her own weight. And Jean-Luc charmed me right from the start – he definitely lived up to his “Ragin’ Cajun” nickname. The setting of this book was a lot darker than I was expecting. For one, people are dropping like flies and it was a scary but realistic telling of this type of situation happening in the real world. So I get the why of it and if I’m honest, although it got a bit overwhelming at times, it worked for this story and these characters.

If you enjoy your books fast paced, action packed, with a fun steamy romance look no further. That's exactly what this book is. Whether you have read previous HORNET books or not, you'll enjoy Jean-Luc's story. Always the joking playboy, Jean-Luc finds himself inexplicably drawn to Dr. Claire Oliver. He's finally tracked her down in Nigeria and realizes she's in real danger. Well actually she found him and he needs her to save him. Now that he has her he plans on keeping her and keeping her safe while they discover exactly what this intense attraction between them really is.

This is a quick read that I think everyone will enjoy. I recommend it.

Romantic suspense with a roller coaster ride of action, and a deadly virus spreading like wildfire. Jean-Luc Cavalier is going against his boss and his HORNET teammates and heading out to protect Dr. Claire Oliver on his own. She’s turned his life and heart upside down. He’ll do anything to save and protect her.......even die.

Jean-Luc is Cajun, hard drinking, hard loving and not a man to mess with. When he rescued Dr. Claire Oliver, virologist, in Martinique, she got under his skin, he couldn’t forget her. Now he finds himself a prisoner in a rotting prison in Nigeria, no way to contact anyone, and the guards are dying around him.

Claire Oliver lost her partner and best friend in Martinique, and also the chance to continue testing her anti viral drug Akeso. After a plea from a medical school friend in Nigeria, she heads to help her with medical care for a new deadly virus. So far it’s 100% fatal and gaining more victims every day. It’s a hemorrhagic illness that responds to nothing. While looking for a possible source of the first infection, she stumbles on an encampment/prison with all the soldiers dead, and Jean-Luc looking near dead. She immediately returns with him to the hospital, knowing his chances of survival are slim to none. Watching him weaken day by day is breaking her heart, he can’t die! She makes a decision that will have a huge impact on her future and her research.

If you haven’t read any of the Hornet novels, your missing a great romantic suspense series. This is the fifth, can be read as a stand alone, but the first four are just as exciting. Danger, suspense and romance are in every story.

Thank you to Entangled Publishers and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this exciting story.

I loved everything about this book but the cover. But that’s okay because I have been waiting for the Ragin’ Cajun Jean-Luc to get his story and now he has. Jean-Luc has always intrigued me. He is so smart and acts happy go lucky but believes he has been cursed by a Voodoo queen. But sick on his death bed the curse is apparently broken. I love that Dr. Claire Oliver sees through his bull and into the heart of him. These two go through hell and come out the other side. This story is sure to get your heartbeat racing.

The HORNET team are back with the book I’ve been waiting for, Jean Luc’s and it was so worth the wait. It’s freaking awesome. Grab a comfy spot and settle in because once you start this story you won’t want to put it down.

Oh the rollercoaster ride that is Reckless Honor. Seriously, it takes off at warp speed and doesn’t let up till you turn the last page with the desperate need for the next book. Well played Tonya Burrows, well played indeed.

Who would have thought that the Ragin Cajun, who is the living embodiment of Laissez bons temps rouler (Let the good times roll) would be the HORNET to fall the hardest or that he would fight so hard to get his woman, the one who turned him down. But he does and with a worthy heroine in Claire, the virologist whom he saved during his last mission in Martinique that went sideways.

I adored Claire and her determined spirit and the way she brings Jean-Luc to his knees. Seriously, there were times while reading when I thought she couldn’t be any cooler them bang she does something that blows me away.

Put these two together and not only is their chemistry off the charts, you get a love story that will drag you through all the feels while leaving you breathless at the actions of a mad man and the thought that it might just happen in real life one day and that we have a real Claire and Jean-Luc to help.

I loved this book, plain and simple. I can’t get enough of the HORNET team and I need the next book like yesterday. This is a series that just keeps getting better.

4 1/2 Spicy Cajun Stars!

Jean-Luc is the linguist in the HORNET Group and is the Cajun manwhore who loves liquor, women and New Orleans ... and not necessarily in that order. But when he meets the lovely Dr. Claire Oliver (he meets her in the `Code of Honor` ... where their story actually begins), he feels things that he has never felt before and doesn`t quite know what to do. But he feels he has to find her so he travels to Nigeria in hopes of her being there. The last thing he thinks is that he will be infected with a deadly disease and she find him. And then their adventure begins!

Jean-Luc is my favorite character in this series so far ... but then I think I have felt that about each of the alpha males on the HORNET Team in their own books. I love that Claire is smart and brave and doesn`t let Jean-Luc get away with anything. These two are opposite but still perfect for each other. This book is full of suspense, romance, steamy sex scenes and adventure ... it kept me up half the night turning the pages to see what would happen next. I wonder whose books will be next - Ian and Mercedes or Harvards? If you are looking for an action packed romance ... then I highly recommend this book. In fact the whole series is great!

Jean-Luc Cavalier is good a several things, drinking, @$&king and languages. When the Ragin' Cajun is cursed with celibacy it makes him question his choices. His work with HORNET has given him a group of Brothers he'd do anything for, but even they can't stop him when Dr. Claire Oliver is in danger.
Claire has worked her entire life trying to find a way to stop deadly viruses. Creating a possible cure has brought her to the attention of a mercenary group that wants her and the research. While in the hot zone for an unknown virus things go from bad to worse when she find Jean-Luc infected with the virus that is practically 100% fatal. And of course all Jean-Luc wants is for Claire to be safe. Best laid plans don't always go the way you want.

*Four & a half Stars!*

"He'd fallen half in love with her that day in Martinique when she'd given him a skeptical up-down in the hotel lobby and told him in no uncertain terms, "I don't think so." Yes, that is the woman that makes Jean-Luc risk his life to save. That is no exaggeration - he most definitely comes close to death.

Claire was taken with Jean-Luc from the first meeting, but would not give his ego the satisfaction of acknowledging the attraction. And yet here he is. To protect her, to save her.

They tackle near death experiences and some serious bad guys!

This is my first book by Tonya Burrows. And WOW! It's a wonderful story, fantastic action and steamy chemistry between the characters. This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. BUT, I am definitely going back to read the beginning of this series. Because why would I not?? Great book!

Reckless Honor continues this series’ slide to the darker edgier side of life in some parts of this world. Tonya Burrows’ HORNET series has introduced fans to Jean-Luc in the past, but we have had to wait to get his story. Now the time has come.

Voodoo curses, keeping one’s word, bioterrorism, corruption, and greed are all part of this search by Jean-Luc to find Claire. Claire is no princess waiting to be saved but is a strong, intelligent woman. Their relationship is complicated due to the situations in which they find themselves. There is wonderful building of the emotional and sexual tension between the two. The dialogue is realistic as well as sharp. This is a viable action-packed plot that has appealing characters who must strive to survive in insurmountable circumstances.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

It all started in Code of Honor in a hotel bar on Martinique with an off key rendition of "If you like Pina Coladas...". Jean-Luc Cavalier, self proclaimed man-whore, has finally met his soul mate, Dr. Clare Oliver. She shot him down like a ballistic missile hitting a target and he was beyond intrigued. Then the night went south with an armed takeover solely to capture Clare and her research partner, Tiffany. Jean-Luc is seriously injured, but not before he saved Clare. He promised to find her and protect her, but she is on the run from the biotech firm that hired the mercenaries to kidnap her and get her research.

Months later he finds her in Niger Delta region of Nigeria smack in the middle of a deadly virus epidemic. Or rather, she finds him. When this virus looks nothing like anything ever seen before, the fear that this is a bioweapon and Nigeria is a testing ground becomes all too real. The HORNET team will need all the help they can get when Clare and Jean-Luc are taken.

"Reckless Honor" is beyond hot, fast paced and with edge of your seat action. Awesome book. If you are a fan of Susanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter Series, you will love this one too. Watching love em and leave em, Jean-Luc meet Clare and fall helplessly in love with her is a great thing to see. That Clare turns out to have a spine made of steel, brains and guts makes her more than a match for Jean-Luc.

4.5⭐
Wow, what a story. This series really has got better and better and Reckless Honor, is definitely the best of the series so far.
As it grabbed me from the start and never let go. With plenty of action, suspense and even a little intrigue. It was incredibly hard to put down, and at times I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
And with the team starting to fracture and hints that all may not be what it seems with a certain member of HORNET. There really was plenty to enjoy.
And I would recommend it to others. As it was such a good read.

Title: Reckless Honor
Series: Hornet Book #5
Stand Alone Title: yes
Author: Tonya Burrows
Genre: Romance, Romantic Suspense
Blurb: Jean-Luc Cavalier has only ever cared about three things: sex, booze, and the dangerous missions he undertakes with HORNET. Laissez les bons temps rouler is more than a Mardi Gras motto—it’s the way he lives his life. But all that changes the night he rescues Dr. Claire Oliver from deadly mercenaries.

Now he can’t get the gorgeous blond virologist out of his head.

Claire is running for her life. Someone wants her antiviral research and they’re willing to kill anyone and everyone to get it. She has no one to turn to except a womanizing Cajun with a silver tongue and devastating smile.

But when an ultra-deadly virus decimates the Niger Delta, saving Claire and her research becomes the least of HORNET’s concerns. The virus has all the markings of a bioweapon and Nigeria is only the testing grounds…
Favorite quote(s): “I’m only telling you truth. Of all the regrets I have, coming here, finding you, is not one of them.”
“Pretty sure I’m a superhero now. Like Deadpool.”
“You’re a Chia Pet,” Marcus said, his eyes still closed. “The gift nobody asks for, but always gets.”
Thoughts: I love Tonya Burrows, but I have to admit this is the first book I’ve read from the Hornet series. It’s also only the second book I’ve read involving a biological warfare element to it (the first was Viable Threat by Julie Rowe). I have to admit the idea is an intriguing one for romantic suspense novels and gives us a little something new and different – and these two ladies pack the punch to pull it off. I thoroughly enjoyed both. Ms, Burrows stands out, in that it the main character actually gets infected. Claire, the amazing doctor, develops a potential cure. The interactions between these characters is wonderful, and they actually mention the movie Outbreak in there…LOL If you are looking for something a little different, look no further! Totally engaging read!
Rating: B+
Other books in this series: SEAL of Honor (Book #1), Honor Reclaimed (Book #2), Broken Honor (Book #3), and Code of Honor (Book #4).

3.5 stars
“Reckless Honor”, the new book in Tonya Burrows’ Hornet series, is an exciting and realistic story about a deadly outbreak and the pending danger of a worldwide pandemic taking place mostly in a developing continent.
Great, mature writing style and top notch character development and the familiar web of personal, professional and human relations that is Hornet, make this story an engaging read. The Cajun linguist, Jean-Luc Cavalier, a character not quite endearing to me from the previous stories (as I recall, he was almost always drunk and had a woman in every port), turned out to be (or already was but I hadn’t noticed) this immensely courageous, loyal and generous man – not at all cavalier – who hides his good heart beneath layers of recklessness, impulsiveness and irreverence.
Burrows’ talent in creating and developing such different worlds and bringing to life such riveting characters is undeniable. I loved Jean-Luc, the alpha security man with a mystic side, who is also a lover of different languages and cultures and an amazing and efficient polyglot linguist. And it’s brilliant that he finds his counterpart in Claire Oliver’s intelligence and compassion, showcasing the author’s creativity in bringing together characters with such different backgrounds.
These relatable characters – the ones we already know as protagonists in previous books and the others, that I’m eager to read more about: Marcus, Harvard, Ian, Mercedes… - are unique and it was what I loved the most.
Yet, despite its realism, a gruesome outbreak is not one of my favorite subjects in romantic suspense fiction, so I was just more delighted with the characters and their relationships and all the clever ways they break gender stereotypes: Harvard and his close friendship with Jean-Luc, Lanie and her non-stoic machismo kind of leadership, Marcus and his uncomfortable breakdown with Jean-Luc’s near fatal adventure.
(I loved to see Jesse, Lanie and Seth, but dearly missed Gabe)

Reckless Honor is the fifth book in Tonya Burrows’ Hornet Series.

Jean-Luc Cavalier, the Ragin’ Cajun, was all about “les bon temps”-sex, booze, dangerous missions- until he met and rescued Dr. Claire Oliver, a virologist, from deadly mercenaries. Their attraction was instant and explosive, but injuries and being on the run keep the couple apart until Claire finds Jean-Luc deep in the Niger Delta. Together they work to protect her research from getting into the wrong hands, while searching for the reason behind a deadly virus decimating the Niger Delta.

Mercenaries, bullets and a deadly viruses surround Jean-Luc and Claire as they fight to protect each other and those around them. Will they survive? Or will death be their ending? Read it to find out!

I originally discovered Tonya Burrows and this series through Netgalley. The cover drew my attention and once I read the synopsis I was hooked. I love alpha military romances with lots of non-stop action. I hate starting a series at the end, so prior to reading Reckless Honor I read the first four books in her Hornet Series. I enjoyed them all and I thought that Reckless Honor was a fantastic addition to the series. Jean-Luc was one of my favourite Hornet members. There is just something about about a fun loving, multi-lingual man trying to make his Mamae proud that pulls at the heart strings.

I love the premise of HORNET and what it stands for. Both the heroes and heroines in Burrows’ books are good, strong characters with strong morals and personalities. They all have a troubled past or personal issues to deal with but they don’t let that get in the way of doing what’s right. I loved the details given to their backgrounds and storylines. Each book introduces the next and allows readers to keep tabs on characters from the previous books in the series.

All the books in Tonya Burrows’ Hornet Series contain a happily ever after and can be read as a standalone, however, reading it in order will give you a better appreciation for the characters and the series itself. I can’t wait for the next book!

I took a risk with this book, as I hadn't read the previous books in the series, but I'm really glad I did! It was a fast-paced medical mystery with lots of action, adventure, and steamy romance. I loved the main characters, and even the bad guys had a lot of drama going on behind the scenes. The story had many layers, which really added depth and excitement to the overall story. The author did a great job of bouncing between POVs, so even though I hadn't read the previous books, I was able to get an idea of the other key players in the plot.

Jean-Luc Cavalier has been trying to find and keep safe the beautiful, feisty doctor he saved from mercenaries two months ago in Martinique. Tracking her down to Nigeria, he has managed to get himself caught, and his captors have perished one-by-one from a mysterious disease. During his escape, he finds himself in the company of the one he's been searching for - Dr. Claire Oliver. Claire has been trying to save a village from a disease that, thus far, has only produced one survivor and killed all the rest. On her quest to find out more about the illness, she is devastated to learn that the man who has stayed in her thoughts for months has become infected. And without a known cure, he has only a week to live. Their relationship cut short before it's even begun, Claire must race against the clock to save the man she has come to love, and possibly save all of humanity along with him.

Jean-Luc is, at heart, a good person. However, he is also a ladies' man who hops from one bed to the other without any inclination to settle down. But when he meets Claire, that all changes, and I really liked seeing his devotion to her. Claire was spunky and genuine, and I loved the intelligence of her character. I don't have a medical background, but I love science, and I enjoyed hearing her talk about the disease in medical terms.
It was very informative and helped solidify her character's role as a doctor/researcher. Even though it took me a bit to fully understand what was going on, due to the story starting out so quickly with not a lot of backstory, I could feel the affection from both of the main characters towards each other. It was really heartwarming, which made Jean-Luc being ill all the more devastating. Their battle for a future that now might no longer exist really kept my heart racing, and I stayed up late finishing it the same night I started it. I had to know how it ended.

This is my first book by this author, but I already know I'll be picking up her next book! She had a great hook at the end that got me chomping at the bit for what happens next. I can't wait!

Claire is running for her life, when a friend asks her for help. On her friends behest, she ends up trying to save the people of a village near the Niger Delta who are slowly dying because of a deadly virus.
When Jean-Luc helped Claire escape Martinique, he promised her to would find her and keep her safe. And to keep that promise he disobeyed orders and landed up on Nigeria. And now he has been kidnapped by militants and is infected by the deadly virus that has zero mortality rate.
Reckless Honor is a thrilling read with a great suspenseful story. Deadly virus, action, suspense, romance, hot chemistry keep you hooked. A highly entertaining read with lots of twists and turns.

Ho-ly cow! Burrows just breaks the HORNET world wide open in Reckless Honor. This book is a huge turning point in the series and I suspect will either make this series much longer or spawn a spin-off series in short order. Reckless Honor takes the storyline from personal and intimate against a larger backdrop (all the books before this one) and replaces it with an even larger backdrop of which the relationship is just one aspect of a much larger game. This isn't a bad thing, but I did miss the more intimate feel a bit.

I loved how this book blows the world wide open. Suddenly Defion (introduced in Code of Honor) becomes a major player - and we get to see things from some Defion agents' perspective. This is an explosive book and not just because some things explode either. It moves a new storyline forward in a big way and a totally unexpected way.

Jean Luc - the Cajun - is a wonderful character. He's funny and relaxed (except when he isn't) and so irreverent that... Oh wait, that's the old Jean Luc. This Jean Luc is vulnerable and sweet and so in love it hurts. He may have gone AWOL with just Marcus because of a promise, but the real reason is that he is wildly, inescapably in love with Claire. My heart just cried for him as he went through an emotional wringer that punched the stuffing out of him and tore him apart. I loved that Jean Luc even as I hated what happened to him and the realities he was forced to face.

Claire was... good. And she doesn't really change in that regard. She does fall in love with the sexy and struggling Cajun who just wants to protect her from the whole world. She falls so hard and so completely that her efforts at several points are heartbreaking to watch. She may be good, but she is not soft. Claire is tough as nails in her own way and willing to fight for what she believes in as well as the lives of those she loves (and the lives of the rest of the world).

Marcus features a number of times. He is deeply wounded by the death of his best friend Danny at the end of Code of Honor and that wound festers horribly. He's cruel in his pain and clearly not emotionally in a place where he can be considered even remotely level-headed. There is a lot of focus on Harvard as well. The "Kid" is struggling with something I see often in these types of books - he wants to contribute more than he is behind a computer by putting his life on the line like the other members of the team. Problem is, he fails to realize their lives are literally in his hands and they need him and that he contributes far more than he thinks. I liked seeing things from Defion perspectives. Mercedes and Seb are interesting characters who I know we'll see again.

I missed the strong "unit" feeling from previous books but given the major change in the way the story was told, this was inevitable. When HORNET did get fully involved, there was little focus on them as a unit and little movement forward in the changes to the leadership. Harvard's unhappiness was emphasized and the loaners from Tuc were introduced. I'd like to get the new dynamics a little better fleshed out in the next book though to solidify the new structure and the new feeling of unit.

The "ripped from the headlines" plot of Reckless Honor was fast-paced but not so fast there wasn't plenty of time to see events through multiple perspectives. It wasn't some break-neck pace. It was deeply emotional and to some degree introspective and philosophical. But, we never skipped a beat in that introspection. Everything was pushing forward the whole way. On top of that, this was a hopeful book in stark contrast to the deep despair at the end of Code of Honor. I was thrilled to see that.

Reckless Honor only solidified my belief that, for me, Ian's book is going to be the book of the series. Frankly, I can't wait for the next book to see where everything is going. No question, I am ready for the next book!

Tonya Burrows has written another winner. Reckless Honor was full of action, suspense, and great characters. The romance is swoon worthy. I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait for the next book!

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley for a voluntary and honest review. This is the second book of this series that I've read. I now have all the unread books of the series on my amazon want list. While a series these books can be read as a stand alone. There is enough information given that you don't feel you've missed something crucial if you haven't read the others.

In this book we have Dr. Claire Oliver, a doctor and researcher who's specialty is viruses, and her goal is to treat or irradiate them if she can. Her life's work has been to develop an anti-viral that will kill the virus and not the host,(patient). She has almost succeeded, and of course people are killing to get it. She's been on the run since her friend and co-researcher Tiffany died over their research in the previous installment.

.Jean-Luc Cavalier, member of the civilian contractor team Hornet, met Dr. Oliver by chance at the hotel they were both staying at in Martinique, in the previous book. He promised Tiffany on her death bed that he would protect Dr. Oliver. That has not been an easy feat, as Dr. Oliver is hard to track, living mostly off the grid. However an outbreak of a new virus has drawn her from hiding, because of course her goal is to save as many lives as she can.
This book is a wild thrill ride, not knowing what's around the next corner. Bullets are flying, people are dying of a horrible virus, it's wiping out entire villages, humans and animals. We learn of an evil plot of bioterrorism planned by some evil guy... (Think of the first Kingsman movie where Samuel L. Jackson's character had specific plans for the population)
The frame work for more books has been foreshadowed in this one, and I look forward to the next adventure
