Lord of Temptation follows Lord Hawkridge, a penniless Marquess and commoner Faith Digby who happens to be a textile heiress. They have a history together, a time when Hawk was rich lordling and Faith was poor commoner. But, their fortunes had changed though their feelings for each other had not. They meet again through a common connection and they might have a second chance at love. Yet, too much water had gone under the bridge and a reconciliation might be too late.

This is a historical romance set in the Regency era when titles and social standing were very important. A hundred years had passed since then, yet Hawk and Faith’s story is still very relevant today. Just change the aristocratic title to a number is Forbes Rich List.

Erica Ridley created a twist in the rich man/poor woman trope as she did a gender swap. It is fun to watch an aristocrat sweat, yet it is also sad that because of the era that they were in, the woman practically has no voice though she had the upper hand.

Things might have changed a little bit after 100 years, but there is still gender inequality today. It’s good that this is a romance, hence love leveled everything, i.e., when it comes to love, both partners have equal say.

A very sweet and easy read. Rated T for Teens.

This is a sweet tale of love lost and found. I love Erica Ridley's writing and I look forward to reading more books from her if they are similar to this one!

A very refreshing read that reminds one of all that could go wrong with one's life. However, as this is a great story by a fantastic author, the reader can be assured of a pleasant closure for everyone involved. I read the book in one sitting and was sad that I had no more to read.

I would rate the book five stars and recommend it to all historical romance fans.

I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.

Oh, what to say about this book? I finished reading last night but wanted to cool my thoughts a bit before writing a review. The "Hero" was anything but a selfish, foolish, hurtful individual. The female lead was a strong character who managed to help run a school for orphaned girls but was somehow unable to resist the male lead. Hawk's behavior towards Faith was reprehensible. He took advantage of her in the worst way and then abandoned her when she needed him the most. Ten long years passed before the two met again and the sparks were reignited. Did Faith learn her lesson? Well, I do not want to spoil the story for anyone so I will not give more away.

There was a cast of likable secondary characters. The book was one of a series. I have read several of the other books in the series and found the male leads to be much more compassionate. Hawk's attitude towards what he did to Faith was just ridiculous. He had to have known the devastating impact that his actions would have had on her life. Anyway, I would read other books in the series but just did not enjoy this one. The HEA was not really a happy one, as the future of another main character was forever changed due to the behavior of the "Hero."

While I love books by Erica Ridley and always find them to be quick reads I felt like this book just fell a bit flat. I never really formed an attachment to either main character. I wanted to and at times thought I was going to but it just didn't happen. Also, while I found the story interesting and there was a good buildup to the climax the climax itself was lacking. The story resolved itself too quickly and the characters went from not getting along and not trusting each other to getting along just fine and dandy way too quickly.

This isn't a bad book and while I enjoyed it as it was an easy read it just wasn't my favorite of Erica's.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and Netgalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions are mine.

This book was an enjoyable read. Some parts of the story may anger some readers, however it tells a realistic life event that happens when young people fall in love, and family responsibilities interfere. The story doesn't dwell for pages on their future lives, but moves along at a good pace. Note: I was delayed in writing this review as I had some major surgery and on medication, and just now realized I didn't write my review.

Book 4 in this series is by far the most emotional, heart-wrenching story of a lost love and the long journey back from the brink of despair. Lord Hawkridge has been struggling for 10 years to bring his estates back from the ruin that his father and uncle left him with. The debts he inherits are astronomical and at 18 years old he has to give up everything, including the girl he loves because it will be years or never before his estates will be back in the black. He is now 28 and has paid off at least half of the debt in the ensuing 10 years. He is looking for investors for a project that will finally pay off the debts and give his mother the life she lost long ago. He has sold everything he can, rented out his entailed properties and he is still living the life of a pauper. He refuses all charity and is determined to succeed on his own. His only regret is leaving behind the love of his life. She was not Quality, just a poor beautiful girl that he loved with all his heart. He was convinced by his mother that he could not marry a poor girl who was not a Lady. He has missed her every day of the past ten years.

Faith Digby is the daughter of a Textile merchant who is very rich. Her family was not always wealthy, but her father turned around a family business that was part of his wife's dowry. Now Faith is a lovely lady who has good friends, parents that love her and a 10-year-old daughter. She has only been in love once and has never forgotten him and even if she won't admit out loud that she has never stopped loving the scoundrel who took her virginity and left her the next day.

Faith is part owner of The St Giles School for Girls and helps her best friend Dahlia with the daily running of the place. Dahlia's new husband is the half-brother of Lord Hawkrige who happens to be the man who broke her heart 10 years ago. Faith is afraid that Hawk will find out about his daughter and take her away from her.

Will Hawk be able to get to know his daughter and convince the love of his life that he is sorry for all the heartache he has caused?

This story was both very sad and heart-warming at the same time. Hawk is a man who was dealt a bad hand when he was young and paid for it for ten years. If anyone deserves a HAE it is Hawk. I will admit that I cried reading this one. Another must read in this series. I absolutely recommend Erica's books!!

I love Erica Ridley’s books! Her writing style is wonderful. She brings the characters to life. The Lord of Temptation is Lord Hawkridge, known as Hawk to his peers. He has a one night stand with a woman he loves, however, she is not suitable to become the wife of a Marquee. He would love to flout convention but when his father dies and he beomes the Marquee, he feels that he must uphold the title. The title is all that there is. There is no money, so either he must earn money, or he must marry an heiress. Faith, whom he loves, is not an heiress.
Fast forward ten years, Hawk is paying back all of his father’s debt. He is on his way to becoming someone. He has connected with his father’s illegitimate son and they have become family by more than just blood. When Hawk arrives to dinner with his brother, and Faith is there, he realizes that he never stopped loving her. Just as they start to reconnect, Hawk realizes that Faith has a daughter, his daughter. She is ten years old and is a wonderful little girl.
He must overcome his feelings of betrayal, same with her. Will love win out, or will there be a parliamentary hearing to give Hawkridge custody of his daughter?
Erica’s writing style is wonderful. She has a way with words and with pulling at your heart strings. Her books are worth reading. I would recommend the whole series and the Dukes of War series as well.
I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion. (I would have bought it anyway, and I did on audible. I love the audio book versions too!)

I loved this book, but it ended too quickly! Historical romances are my favourite genre and Erica Ridley did not disappoint. I loved that the romantic scenes were hinted at rather than fully described as sometimes the sex scenes can defeat from the story but Erica Ridley had the perfect balance with this one. Lord of Temptation was a great read and one I managed in a couple of hours. I would have liked a bit more drama, especially from the interaction between the dowager marchioness and the new marchioness but all in all I enjoyed this book. I will be looking out for more titles in this series 😀

I am voluntarily submitting my honest review after receiving an ARC of this ebook via NetGalley.

This is the fourth installment of the Rogues to Riches series. It functions well as a standalone novel, but having read some of the previous books in the series, I will say that the book is certainly enriched by having knowledge of the history of the peripheral characters in the story that the previous installments provides. (Simon and Dahlia's story in Lord of Night pertains most specifically to the events in Lord of Temptation, but again, it is not absolutely critical to following the plot.) While I enjoyed this book, it is not my favorite Erica Ridley novel. Like many of the other reviewers, I too could not overcome my dislike of Lord Hawkridge and found Faith's attitude toward him perplexing. SPOILER ALERT!!!
\
SPOILER ALERT!!! While wrongs were perpetuated on both sides, his continued arrogant browbeating and demanding behavior a decade later would be hard to move past and forgive. His forcing her into marriage, especially at a time when it looked like all he cared about was her dowry, and then expecting love to ever bloom between them is simply preposterous. Times and attitudes were different then, however, appalling selfishness is appalling selfishness, no matter the milieu. Despite my disgust at Hawk's treatment of Faith, I still recommend Erica Ridley's novels for anyone who enjoys Regency romance that don't follow the typical formulaic patterns. They are witty, unexpected and well-written, fun reads that fans of historical fiction are sure to like.

I love this auhor and his book did not disappoint. The characters were likable and human in their flaws. I definitely recommend this if you like books from this time period.

A nicely told tale (as always from Erica) that follows on from the story of the school for indigent girls we've read about before in this series.

This is now the story of Faith, the co-founder/headmistress/accountant. We now find out how her family came into their money and just how recent it was - they are seriously nouveau-riche and 'trade' and thus far from respectable to the haughty 'ton'. We also meet young Christina. the book-worm. But I found her reading matter a little young by my standards but still, she was Victorian/Regency period and thus perhaps it was advanced for that age.

Victorian/Regency morality and class prejudice are nicely explored.

Lord of Temptation⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ by Erica Ridley
(Rogues to Riches #4)

Zachary Nash, Marquess of Hawkridge, has inherited a penniless estate. He has dedicated himself to paying off the debts incurred by his father and making them prosperous again.
When Nash is invited to dinner, at his (by blow) brother Simon home,he encounters another guest Faith Digby a woman whose trust he destroyed. She was the love of his life but not a peer and thus a forbidden fruit. He had intentions of marrying her but his family would not permit it.
This story is about a second chance for two people that always loved each other. However, overcoming past deeds and words seem insurmountable.
I enjoyed this book as I have the rest of the series. Erica Ridley never disappoints.

I like Erica Ridley's series and characters. I hadn't read any of the books in this particular series (Rogues to Riches). Based on this book I think I will read the other books in the series.

I really Love Erica Ridley's books!! She writes great Historical Romance! Her books are a must for me

Erica Ridley tugs at your heart with this endearing tale. My heart hurt long into Hawkridge and Faith’s story. I loved how they both admitted to their mistakes in this dilemma. It would have been easy to not like Hawkridge after the way he left Faith. You begin to see they were both so young and easily influenced by others. Yes, the argument could be made that he should have loved Faith enough to defy his mother and guardian, but that is easier said than done.

I found it interesting that in 10 years he never found an heiress to marry. In my heart, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt in that no one could measure up to the one he let get away – his Faith.

Christina is the most precious, young lady. Faith and her parents truly did a great job of raising her without a hint of snobbery. I like that Ms. Ridley made her a believable little girl who could be difficult at times, not all sugar and spice. Even the way the Digby’s and the dowager’s roles in this romance are written in a realistic way so as not to make you think life is easy for Ridley’s characters.

Being able to connect with Dahlia and Simon from Lord of Night as characters in this book keeps their love alive, too. You get to see the continuation of the girls school through Faith and Dahlia.

This could be a stand alone, but I have enjoyed reading this series in sequence. I am looking forward to reading Heath’s story next. Erica Ridley is one of my go to authors.
