This reads poetically and there is a lot to each tale. I don't think it will be one that "fits" well with our library's patrons. That is the only reason I believe it will be not be purchased for our library. I will, however, likely purchase for my own personal library. Read this if you want something that takes more than a couple reads.

A lovely collection of short stories about a wide variety of people in a small seaside town who each struggle with their own form of loneliness and isolation. If at times the conclusion seems to border on sentimental, there's just enough gravitas to rein it in. Owen's writing is top notch--smart but accessible. I particularly appreciated his powerful descriptions and spot-on character work. Many of these stories--Housekeeper especially--will stick with me for a long time. That's the sign of a great collection. I'll be eagerly awaiting Owen's next work.
