I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but this book can be read as a standalone. This is only my second Kelly Jamieson book, but I enjoyed it. Was it the best sports romance I've read? No, but it was still a very cute story.
I loved the flirty Twitter banter between Hockey star Chase and pop star Jordyn - it certainly made me smile and laugh. Chase has had a crush on Jordyn for a while and of course Jordyn knows who he is since she's from Chicago and he plays for Chicago's hockey team. They have some back and forth jibes on Twitter over the hockey game and eventually Chase bets her a date. He wins that bet and they go on that date. They were adorable together and obviously had chemistry. Jordyn is a bit shy/uncertain and Chase seems like the cocky guy but is secretly freaking out over having a date with the big pop star. They end that date on a sour note though thanks to egos. But they are still friends and continue their flirting. and eventually get back together after a voice issue sidelines Jordyn for months in Chicago.
Meanwhile, Chase is dealing with an injury that he wants to ignore, but he keeps playing poorly and dealing with the haters. Jordyn encourages him though and I love that they both support the other, even when society tries to bring them down.
Of course, egos again get in the way of their budding relationship and Chase blows up in a high drama fashion and breaks Jordyn's heart. But of course they get back together and get their HEA. It's really all predictable, but is still a sweet story.

This is the sixth book in the Aces Hockey series and it is a light, sweet, sexy story with characters that are realistic and entertaining. Chase is a hockey player with the Chicago Aces and he has a crush on Jordyn, a R&B singer. Chase can’t believe his good fortune, when he finally gets to meet Jordyn after playfully tweeting her. He is happy to discover that Jordyn is down to earth and fun and they instantly connect. However, the downside is that they are both busy with their careers and they live on opposite sides of the county.
I liked both Chase and Jordyn and I thought they make a great couple. There is a lot of pressure that is put on them to always perform at their best. Sometimes they just want to sit back, relax and enjoy life and they can do that with each other. They are good together and help each other become better people. They understand and support one another through some tough times and I love all the sparks they create when they are together. This is another great hockey romance from Kelly Jamieson.

Playing Hurt (Aces Hockey, #6) by Kelly Jamieson Chase is a member of the Aces Hockey team...was a wild child in the early days of his career but has settled down and is now having problems scoring and with his wrist. Jordyn is a pop star finally making it big ..she is a hockey fan.. also have some throat problems.. They meet over twitter and have their first date after a hockey bet. Thanks to #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. I give it 4 1/2 stars.. it is a fun..sexy read with a few rough spots getting to their HEA.

Well let me start by saying I have become a huge fan of this author. She writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: He’s playing hurt. She’s laying low. And they’re both flirting with disaster.
Chase: The last thing I’d ever want to do is let my team down. After overcoming my bad-boy reputation, I was dominating on the ice. But things aren’t going so well this season, and even my parents think I’m partying again. Now I’m really worried about my career. The only bright spot in my life is the Twitter flirtation I’ve struck up with pop princess Jordyn Banks. Turns out she’s a huge hockey fan—and she’s willing to wager a date on her favorite team. . . .
Jordyn: Even though I’m an L.A. fan now, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Aces, since I grew up in Chicago. Then I lose a bet to Chase Hartman, and suddenly I’m up close and personal with a pro athlete who’s anything but soft. Not only is Chase the hottest guy I’ve ever met, he’s secretly super sweet. As if I had time for a relationship . . . yeah, right. But when I suddenly have nothing but time on my hands, he’s the only one who understands. Now, with both of our careers at stake, Chase is tempting me to put my heart on the line too.
I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

This was a cute, fun story that began on Twitter. Chase follows Jordyn and they getting into a Twitter argument about different hockey teams. After a bet, the wager being a date, they finally meet in person. The chemistry is instant and they have a good time.
They think it will be the last time they see each other but they can't seem to let each other go. They balance each other well, and their banter was fun and light, giving as good as they got. Would definitely read more in this series.

I just couldn’t get into this one, folks. Too much of the main couple fangirling and gushing over each other had me bored to tears. A hand wringing hero who’s lost his hockey mojo isn’t my thing, either. At 40% into, I had lost complete interest. I simply didn’t find the writing or story line all that engaging.
Title: Playing Hurt, Series: Aces Hockey (Book 6), Author: Kelly Jamieson, stand-alone but part of a series, hockey player hero, famous singer heroine, stop reading at 30%.

Chase Hartman is really worried about his hockey career. Lately he can’t score, his playing has been crap. Even his hockey obsessed parents think he’s back to his old partying days, no matter how many times he tells them those days are gone. They are concerned about him. His childhood wasn’t what it was cracked up to be. All his parents wanted was for him to exceed in hockey and play for the NHL. As a kid he even tried to quit playing, and his parents gave him the silent treatment, that is until he went back to playing. Seems that his only thing he looks forward to these days, is talking on Twitter to a pop princess by the name of Jordyn Banks. When he offers a wager against her home NHL team, to go out with him on a date if they lose, she agrees. After her team loses, Chase is totally freaking out. A date with his favorite Hot singer will be epic..
Jordyn is going out tonight with her hockey crush, which he won fair and square. What she didn’t plan on, was that she would have such a fabulous time with Chase. Too bad she doesn’t have time for relationships.
At a concert in New York that is being televised, Chase watches as Jordyn’s voice suddenly disappears in the middle of her set. Now that Jordyn has nothing but time in her hands since her vocal cord surgery, she accepts another date with Chase. As their relationship heats up, so do their feelings. How can they make this work, he’s in Chicago and she’s in LA.
Kelly Jamieson has become one of my favorite authors. Everything she writes you have to finish in a day or two. Great book!

Chase and Jordyn are both focused on their careers when an online flirtation turns into a real-life date. Their romance develops slowly, as each is having to deal with a potentially career-ending injury as well as a history of not being able to trust enough to maintain a relationship. Theirs is a sweet love story, a little angsty, a lot steamy, complete with a triumphant HEA.
I loved the slow build-up, and I enjoyed the friendships they each have with their “people” and teammates. This is a terrific story that had me turning the pages non-stop. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Nice fun, flirty, sexy romantic story. A pop star, Jordyn Banks, & a hockey star, Chase Hartman, start a romance over Twitter. It starts out with some shared tweets & grew after a date won on a wager. Both had some issues to overcome & the relationship takes some hits. Can they find a way to stay together?
I really enjoyed the way these characters were portrayed. They both were common, down to earth people regardless of their fame. The fame did cause its own problems as they attempted to develop & maintain a relationship in the glare of gossips & fans. Chase had issues from his youth that caused difficulties in the relationship. The chemistry between them is hot & intense. The interactions between Chase & his team mates shows how the team has become his family. This was a great addition to the series but can easily be read as a stand alone.

I absolutely loved this book by one of my favorite authors Kelly Jamieson. In Playing hurt, pop singer Jordyn and Ace's hockey player Chase exchange several tweets back and forth which prompt fans to wonder if something more is going on with these two people who had never met. When their flirting via tweets turns into more Jordyn and Chase find love.
Kelly Jamieson delivered a well thought out book filled with a lot of funny banter and two outstanding characters. I can't wait to read more by this author.

This was my first Kelly Jamieson book and once I saw it was a hockey story I knew I needed to snag it. Playing Hurt definitely didn't disappoint and I'll definitely be picking up the rest of the series.
My rating scale:
5☆ - I loved this book and it brought out true emotion in me (laughter, anger, a good cry, etc)
4☆ - I loved this book.
3☆ - I liked this book.
2☆ - I didn't really care for this book.
1☆ - I did not like this book at all and probably did not finish it.

I've been enjoying what I've read of this series so far! Chase has had a crush on pop star Jordyn, and when they start tweeting each other sparks fly! Fun, cute and sexy read. I enjoyed it!

3.5 Stars!
Two people at the peak of their very public careers find an unusual way to connect romantically. Chase, a hockey pro with the Chicago Aces has a celebrity crush on pop star Jordyn Banks. Jordyn who's from Chicago and a fan of hockey decides to follow Chase on Twitter prompting him to respond to her tweet. This starts a fun and flirtatious banter between the two.
This was a pretty cute story. Chase's infatuation with Jordyn was almost like what you would see with a teenage crush. Both characters are pretty smitten with each other. I like how the author gave us a lot of couple time with them while still being realistic to the struggles of life getting in their way.
This is a pretty low angst and safe read. I enjoyed this couple and didn't really mind the bumps they faced along the way. Both of them dealt with some hurt from their pasts that did get in the way few times but I never felt it was overdone.

Kelly writes the best hockey romances. I loved the flirting on Twitter between Chase and Jordyn. The bantering between them was perfect. Kelly added the perfect amount of spice to this book. I hope there are many more books to the Ace series!

This starts off with a modern-day meet-cute. Jordyn is an up-and-coming pop singer and Chase is a professional hockey player for the Chicago Aces. Even though they live in different cities and worlds, they meet through Twitter in commenting on hockey games. After several interchanges, they end up meeting for a date.
Chase is sweetly star-struck to be tweeting with and then meeting a pop singer he really likes. He puts a lot of thought into what they should do on their first date. It’s an interesting question - how to plan a date for two famous, recognizable, rich people. Also, Jordyn’s family is from Chicago so he can’t even do standard touristy stuff. He comes up with a great date that charms Jordyn and lets us know a lot about both of them that they enjoy such a simple date.
I really enjoyed the getting-to-know each other stage of their relationship. Then they start sleeping together and sex takes over the narration. There is still some plot and character-development, but now it’s interrupted every few pages with more hot sex. I guess that’s the template for the novel and I’m not a prude, but I enjoyed the first half of the book of two nice people falling for each other a lot more.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Chase and Jordyn begin their relationship over Twitter. Chases notices that Jordyn posts comments when her Condors are playing hockey so he starts an easy back and forth with her. He then makes a bet with Jordyn to go out on a date with him and so beings their more personal relationship. Both of them are suffering from a physical ailment that sidelines their ability to perform at top levels. Jordyn finds herself with a ton of time on her hands and Chase is more than happy to fill that time with him. Their relationship was not always smooth but it was reminiscent of a real life relationship. They both were stubborn at points and they did have different attitudes towards neatness. Jordyn did tend to meddle in her friend's lives and give her opinion without being asked and that did cause problems for her and Chase at points. Chase felt he was always measured by how he performed on the ice and doesn't react very well at points when his game isn't in the top form that he, his coaches and fans expect it to be. What transpires is that both Jordyn and Chase learn to rely upon each other. Although not always a match made in heaven it was interesting to see these two navigate the minefield of a relationship. I really did like this book and I thought it was a good addition to this series. If you are looking for a hockey romance, this one is a good one.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

Playing hurt is the 6th book in the Aces Hockey series, this time around it was Chase and Jordyn’s story. For the most part, I enjoyed the book. Loved the chemistry between the two, the way they bantered back and forth, the similarities they shared with their jobs and fear of failure and letting their fans down, and the way they could be themselves with each other. I think the hospital was my favorite scene. The problem I had with the story was the continual doubting and complaining that went on with their prospective issues. I mean, I get it, professional athletes and celebrities are very intune with what their success is all about and what got them there, but I think there could have been a bit less whining and more depth to the story. I felt that the issue Chase had with his parents was a bit weak, I can’t see any athlete letting that get into their psyche and causing them not to perform at their best, just didn’t jive with me. I loved Jordyn’s parents and the Ace team and spouses, could really feel the way they all cared about each other when they were together. I enjoyed going through some of the song writing process with Jordyn, and how she overcame her challenge, Chicago was a great setting for this book. Was a little disappointed with the ending, thought the author could have put more into it, but the story worked overall.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

I really liked how this one started out, with Chase and his crush on Jordyn. I liked how they flirted over twitter and their first date. I was glad when things didn’t end there for them. Both of them seemed to have fun as they got to know each other. I think it helped that both knew the hassle of fame and could commensurate with the injuries they had. I did hate how Chase lashed out towards the end, hated that by trying to protect himself he hurt Jordyn. I was glad later when he realized that Jordyn had his best interests at heart and did something about it. He did a great job at getting back into her good graces!

I wasn't a huge fan of this book. The authors heroines are stereotypical sports douchebags and they never seem to redeem themselves to me. Especially at the end when he just walked out. I liked the pop star aspect. Their relationship seemed to just porgress too fast, especially with the getaway.

Love this series and love this book! Chase and Jordyn are fun and sexy. The book deals with some serious issues too, but does it in a way that totally makes sense and doesn't diminish the love story at all. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the Aces series.
