Called To Protect by Lynette Eason is a marvellous Christian suspense. It is the second book in the Blue Justice series but can be read as a stand-alone.
The series follows the St John family, all of whom work in the emergency services. This book has Chloe and her K9 partner Hank as the focus. The reader witnesses the strong bond between the pair as they work together to fight crime.
Relationships between the siblings and their parents are strong, loving and with mutual respect. Their love and care reaches beyond the family unit to reach the lost and the hurting. The parents are the perfect example of a marriage working with God at the centre.
Life intrudes. Our pasts shape us but they do not have to define us. We may become angry and withdraw from God but He will never withdraw from us. Anger is draining. “I don’t want to be angry anymore… Please help me.” When we give our negative emotions to God, He can help us to deal with them in His strength.
There is the theme of forgiveness. We may not be able to do this in our strength. We may need to lean on God.
The novel deals with the horrendous subject of human trafficking. It is modern day slavery and there are some hard to read scenes. At times the girls feel abandoned and isolated. Even God seems absent. “Where was God in all this?” God walks alongside us in the valley as well as on the mountaintop.
The law enforcement agencies work as a partnership. This reminds the reader that we can do life in partnership with God.
I am loving Lynette Eason’s novels. They are suspense out of the top drawer and absolutely fabulous.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

This is second book in Lynette Eason’s Blue Justice series, and I liked it even better than the first one! The story follows the St. Johns, a law enforcement family we were introduced to in the last book. This book focuses on one of the sisters, Chloe, but also gives us glimpses of the other family members.

One of my favorite parts of this book is the great characters! I thought the relationship and budding romance between Chloe and Blake was handled really well. I also loved reading about Chloe’s K-9 partner, Hank – he played an integral role in every step of the investigation, and it was interesting to learn a little bit more about that part of law enforcement.

This is not a typical suspense novel! There are unique elements throughout, from the situation Blake faces with his kidnapped daughter, to the plot that revolves around human trafficking. Lynette Eason does a great job with that tough subject matter, and with the action – it’s hard to stop after “just one more chapter!” This is a great book to add to your summer reading list.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. Thank you, Revell Books!

The personal connection of these characters to human trafficking and the resulting emotional adds power to the message of awareness and need.

Chloe is strong, smart, and powerful, especially with her K-9 partner Hank by her side. Eason admirably treats this partnership with the meticulous respect it deserves. Blake is one of the good guys… well-versed in the gifting of sacrificial love whether the recipient is family, friend, or stranger.

This fast-paced plot is captivating and moving on a deeper level than the average story. Called to Protect is sure to impact readers with the power of knowledge, compassion, and empathy. I highly recommend this book, it is frankly a must-read title for fans of romantic suspense.

I borrowed an ebook of this title through a paid subscription service. The opinions expressed are my own.

She spent lots of time trying to solve the problem of where the group of girls were being held in this human trafficking bust and mystery case. She wanted the girls to be safe and wanted the criminals to be caught. After US Marshall Blake MacCallum's daughter was found to be missing He started working on the case. I feel like I love Lynette Eason's writing more with every book I read of hers. This series is one of her best and the characters practically spring off the page. Chloe was a great heroine and I loved all the page time that Hank the dog got. As much as I enjoyed book one, this one was better and also easier to follow.

Derek was a good hero. Strong without being pushy or overbearing. Talk about impossible options!! This guy has got it bad. Either turn on his entire life and kill the folks there with him, or lose his daughter. One thing I really admired was how Eason managed to portray his feelings and his predicament, showing the pain in his heart without getting down into melodrama.

I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, and it complicated matters to have Claire's relative Rachel caught up in this same human-trafficking group. I was keeping up my hopes for Derek's daughter pretty well, but I really wasn't sure about Rachel's chances. Definitely an edge-of-your-seat read!

Thanks to NetGalley for a free ebook copy. A positive review was not required.

This is the second book in the Blue Justice series by Lynette Eason. This series follows the St. John siblings, where this book is Chloe’s story. Chloe is K-9 officer and she is assigned to a case to help locate US Marshall Blake MacCallum’s missing daughter as well as a suspected human trafficking ring. Chloe’s fiancé dumped her for another woman so Chloe is reluctant to trust another man. This story is a race against time to find MacCallum’s daughter, as well as stop the trafficking ring.

This book was seriously amazing. The story was so well written and suspenseful. Eason did a wonderful job writing about a very serious subject but was very compassionate to victims and brought some insight to this very real problem that is happening. I love all of Eason’s stories, and I think this series is quickly becoming one was my new favorites, can’t wait until the next installment is released.

Lynette Eason has quickly become a go-to author for me. Called to Protect, book two in her Blue Justice series, opens with a chilling scene that instantly hooked me!

This book is packed with action as we enter a story around a missing daughter and human trafficking. An interesting twist in the story happens when US Marshall Blake MacCallum is ordered to kill the judge he's protecting and tell no one about his daughter's disappearance or she will die.

Eason transported me into the middle of the scene with a truck and a shootout. As you can tell there is a lot of tension in this story and Eason did an excellent job building a story that I couldn't put down.

I am loving this series by Lynette Eason!! I love her writing and she did not disappoint with this book. I love that she has centered the series on a family tied to law enforcement. The family dynamics have a twist. This second book in the series was well developed and gave some focus and background on the family without taking away from the storyline and main characters. I can't wait until the next book comes out!

I really enjoyed this book! It was suspenseful and kept me guessing through the whole book. The characters are well written and believable- and quickly become dear friends as you journey through the book. It gave me insight into a world I'm not familiar with.

Called to Protect by Lynette Eason is book 2 in the Blue Justice series. I have long been a fan of Lynette Eason, but this new series is her best yet! I read book 1 as well and this book definitely continues the story. However, I do not think reading book 1 is necessary before reading this one. This book dives deep into the world of human trafficking. It makes this very real problem quite real and scary. At the same time, there is another story going on where US Marshall Blake MacCallum is put in a dilemma, torn between saving his daughter from a kidnapper and doing the unthinkable to save her life. This book will keep you up late. The action never stops. It is an amazing read and I cannot wait for the next book in this series!! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Title: Called to Protect

Author: Lynette Eason

Series: Blue Justice book 2

Chapters: 29

Pages: 320

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Rating: 4.5 stars

Called to Protect is the second Blue Justice book by Lynette Eason that follows law Enforcement family the St. Johns in South Carolina. This one focuses on Chloe and her K-9 Partner Hank a German Shepard. After a break up Chloe has sworn off man and dating, considering Hank to be the only male she likes. She wants to focus on her job, but then Hank's nose lands them in the middle of a human trafficking case.
US Marshall Blake MacCallum who just happens to be Chloe's childhood crush daughter is kidnapped to use as leverage against Blake to get him to kill a judge. He's racing against the clock and Chloe and Hank have been added to the task force to bring down the traffickers. Blake and Chloe must work together to rescue his daughter , save the judge and stop the traffickers. Neither can afford to admit their feelings for the other. Not with so much at stake.
Called to Protect moves just as fast as the first book in the series Oath of Honor Isabelle St. John’s story. The human trafficking part of the story is new to be in romantic suspense I don't think I've ever read in a novel. But it's not something that is new to me, the plot of the novel is almost something that could have been ripped from today's headlines. It is a parents real fear in today's society. It was even the topic that I wrote my senior thesis on for my criminal justice degree. So I am glad that Lynette didn't shy away from such a tough and heart breaking topic, but it something that needs to be talked about. Lynette handled the topic with grace and balance. She included what she needed to but didn't go overboard. I would still recommend this adults. But I do think teenagers especially teen girls need to read this with their parents.
This series continues to give me Blue Bloods feel in book form. I recommend even though each book focuses on a different St. John to read them in order. If you read this one first you may be spoiled for things that happened in the first book. I look forward to book three Code of Valor, which is Detective Brady St. John story.

Suspenseful story, intriguing characters, sweet romance. I liked Rachel’s determination and how Blake never stops in the search for his daughter. Chloe’s interactions with her siblings are a hoot, and Hank is a fun character to read. Blake and Chloe show a lot of promise for future reader-swooning, so here’s hoping they’ve made plenty of progress by the time book #3 comes out!

I did want more of Izzy and Ryan from Oath of Honor – I wanted to catch up with them here in this second book – but you know, they did already have a whole book all about them, and there are a lot of St. Johns to give page time. ;)

Story Notes

Lynette Eason brings her signature nail-biting story telling to the second installment of the Blue Justice Series that focuses on the ugly crime of human trafficking.

There are many crimes in this world that are terrible but there is none so heinous as human trafficking. It matters not where the victims come from or end up, they all are mistreated in the worst ways imaginable. And while most of us are aware of the vast number of people that are trafficked from overseas, there are millions taken from our home towns and cities every day that we never see or hear about. This story by Ms. Eason takes a good look at this dark side of crime and the tragedy that is destroying women’s lives. The story opens on the night that Penny St. John disappears – she had gone on a date with a new boy and their quick stop at his friends house leads to more than she bargained for – human traffickers take her to be sold. Fast forward six months and the scene of an auto accident involving drugs. Chloe St. John was called in with her K-9, Hank, to discover the origin of the drugs that were tossed out onto the pavement during the accident. The search of the involved vehicles leads to more than she expected – twelve frightened young women in a secret compartment of a semi-truck. Not finding her cousin among the young ladies is disheartening but Chloe does surprisingly find the daughter of US Marshall Blake MacCallum, a daughter she wasn’t aware was missing. Rachel MacCallum is carrying the guilt of her deep resentment towards her father – a father she didn’t even know until her mother died a few years ago. But her kidnapping is supposed to serve the higher purpose of removing a judge who is extremely tough on trafficking and is seeking to support new laws. Blake had been given the ultimatum of either killing the judge or losing his daughter forever and was scrambling to keep both alive. The unexpected recovery of his daughter brought him a measure of peace until he discovers that she left the hospital to go back for her friend who is still at the trafficking holding house. Applauding and cursing her bravery, Blake asks Chloe to help him try to follow Rachel with the help of Hank. As they work together to find Rachel and, hopefully, Penny, both Blake and Chloe will have to dig deep into their long held faith to find the strength to face the growing nightmare. They are hoping against hope they are not too late and that they can find the girls before they are gone forever. This book gives you chills and suspense that grows with each turning page. And while it did take a good, long, hard look at this terrible crime, it was not so gruesomely done as to make it impossible to read. I’ve had the chance to talk to former victims of human trafficking through a volunteer opportunity and what was done to these women is heartrendingly awful. I’m very pleased that Ms. Eason did work hard to convey the lack of hope and terror that was felt by these women so that readers could see these were not just wimpy people who chose not to fight back. Traffickers are very good at what they do, unfortunately, and it is rare that they are caught before their victims have been sold. And their support in law enforcement and political offices helps to keep their work undetected. I loved how Ms. Eason showed the dedication of those who work these cases and that this case was one that had a better ending than most. I would have preferred a bit more on the spiritual side of things to have been included as well as for the ending to have been expanded a little more to see how the rescued victims were dealing with the tragedy. The lack of these two inclusions kept me from giving the book 5 stars. However, I do think that Ms. Eason is hitting her stride with these complex crime dramas that make me stay up way too late to finish. I’m greatly looking forward to her next book that comes out in January, I’ve been waiting to read the rest of Brady’s story (there was an excerpt in this book) and how he will deal with the curve balls thrown his way.

I received this E-book free of charge from Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation from either company for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

I loved this fast paced Christian suspense novel. It deals with a sensitive subject but it shows the darker side of society and helps to bring justice to the victims in the story. I love when you get to see the characters that protect us find love and this book does just that.

Chloe St. John is a K9 police officer who is part of a crime fighting family. She is surrounded by her brothers who are also in law enforcement and a mother who is Chief of Police. Chloe is called to an accident where drugs are found. They also find girls and begin to slowly unravel a sex trafficking ring.

Blake MacCallum is a US Marshall who is protecting a judge who has taken a hard stance on sex trafficking. Blake's daughter is kidnapped and he is ordered by the kidnappers to kill the judge, something he has no intentions of doing. The kidnappers who have his daughter are also the ones running the sex trafficking ring.

Blake and Chloe join forces to rescue Blake's daughter and to rescue the girls in danger. This hunt places them in very dangerous situations but draws them closer together. But when Chloe finds herself in the worst kind of danger she can imagine, can she rescue all of the girls who are counting on her?

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest feedback.

This is book two in the Blue Justice Series. Since this is the first in the series I have read and had no trouble understanding what was going on, I would say it is a stand alone book. However, now I want to go back and read book one. I fell in love with the St. John family and want to learn more about them. I love the writing style of Lynette Eason. It is full of suspense, mystery, family and romance.

Chloe St. John is a beautiful K-9 cop. When she starts helping Blake MacCallum,, a handsome US Marshal, the sparks that follow are great. Chloe and Blake must put their feelings aside till they can figure out the human trafficking ring that effects both families.

I look forward to reading book three.

My thoughts: Lynette Eason is one of those authors I just can't put down. CALLED TO PROTECT is the second book in this series, but it stands alone so readers do not have to read the first book (Oath of Honor) in order to understand this one.

Having teenage daughters this book was kind of hard to read since it is about the sex-trafficking ring and shows how easy it is to lure girls in. While Rachel may not have trusted the man who took her and her friend, she did go with them, and that is where she ended up in trouble. I would have like to have known how they found one missing girl, but I guess that is left up to my (active) imagination.

Chloe and Blake are racing against the clock and desperate times call for desperate measures. Blake is savvy enough to realize that even if he does meet the kidnappers demands he would never see Rachel again--without a miracle. But time is against them and everything seems to lead to a dead end.

As Ms. Eason warns: "buckle in for a fast and furious ride that will have your hearts pumping from the beginning."

I was given a copy free on netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Wow and wow. I’m going to be careful about giving spoilers here so as not to dampen the susoense.

.The suspense and action never stops in this book until the resolution of the story. The storyline could come from today’s newscast. The characters are great and I loved the family aspect to this story. Even though this is the second book in the series, this one stands on its own very well. Lynette Eason has just moved onto my list of favorite Christian suspense writers.

This is a clean book with no foul language or embarrassing scenes. It’s so well-written it doesn’t need those things to make it a great story. Highly recommend this book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Like all of Lynette Eason's books, this one was another exceptional read. It was rather difficult at times because the subject matter is about human trafficking. It really put me on edge at times but it was definitely worth reading.

It was fun reading about the St. John family again. They are such a great family and I enjoyed getting to know them again. This book definitely stands alone but the first book in the Blue Justice series, Oath of Honor, is well worth reading if you haven't yet. I really enjoyed that book, too!

This book focuses on Chloe and her K-9, Hank. I really loved reading about how the police officers work closely with their dogs and I fell in love with Hank and all he could do. I also enjoyed Blake, who has been friends with the St. John family for years but is now relying on them in a professional capacity as his daughter has been kidnapped. Blake is a U.S. Marshall and the bad guys who have taken his daughter are demanding something of him that is beyond the pale.

I loved the character of Rachel, Blake's daughter. She is so complex. She is strong yet so desperate to feel loved and worth-while at the same time. I really like how the author makes her such a real person as she struggles with what has happened to her. As I said, because this focuses on human trafficking, there are a lot of tense moments in the book where I just wasn't sure I could plod on with the story, but I'm so glad I did. Yes, the hard moments are hard, but it's well worth the read and it was an enjoyable read - just difficult in places.

The story has so many twists and turns and just when you think that things are going to be solved, something new happens and you're off and running again with the characters of the book. It's definitely a fast paced book! I really enjoyed this and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

I have been reading Lynette Eason‘s novels since some of her earliest ones published by Love Inspired Suspense. I have watched her talent develop over the years into first class suspense and have several friends who have now read most of her books also. We all look forward to each one that is published. I often have the good fortune to receive a review copy which is a true blessing. Called to Protect more than met my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced suspense novel.

Called to Protect jumps in foot first and takes off running from the very first page. Chloe St. John and Deputy US Marshall Blake MacCallum find themselves working together on a human trafficking case with a much too personal connection. Both Chloe’s missing cousin and Blake’s kidnapped daughter may be held by the traffickers. The action is nonstop and the suspense builds with each page. Chloe and Blake must learn to trust each other and depend on God if they are to rescue the missing girls before it is too late.
