By far the best book by Lynette Eason I have read and maybe even the best book I have read all year. The tension was so crisp keeping me on the edge of my seat until the very end!

Chloe St. John is one of the top officers in the K-9 unit with her partner Hank. After a rough break up, Chloe has decided Hank is the only man she wants in her life. She and Hank have been working on a human trafficking case that has ties to her missing cousin. US. Marshall Blake MacCallum has been on protective detail of a judge in town after the judge receives death threats for his tougher stance on human trafficking. When Blake’s daughter goes missing, he receives a message telling him that if he wants to see his daughter alive he has to kill the judge. A task force is assembled to take down the people behind everything and Chloe and Blake work together to find his daughter and hopefully find answers to what happened to Chloe’s cousin.

This has got to be one of the very best romantic suspense novels I have ever read. Most of the books I read lead up to that point of biting my fingernails to see what is going to happen and then it stops the tension before it actually gets to that point, something that is truly frustrating. I usually feel that the author could have carried the action and tension a little further, even without getting gory or to a point that would turn readers away. Eason found a way in Called to Protect to make every page a nail-biting experience. I felt a connection with Chloe from the very beginning. Her passion for her job and her passion for helping those around her pulled me in and had me rooting for her to succeed. I had a few questions about Blake and if I should really connect with him at first but it didn’t take long to find that connection and root for him as well. The plot line of this story is a very sensitive subject as it deals with human trafficking. As much as we would like to say it doesn’t exist, it does and we have to do what we can to keep it from expanding. Without giving anything away, I loved how it played out. It wasn’t a quick unrealistic ending, each character brought exactly what they were supposed to at just the right moment to let the scene come together perfectly. The ending is left open for the next in the series and I feel certain it will deal with Penny, Chloe’s cousin and after the little we read of her here I can’t wait to see what more is in store for these characters. I recommend this to readers that enjoy a fast paced suspense read that is going to leave you thirsting for more.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

When Chloe and her drug dog Hank are called to sniff out a cargo truck they find more than they bargained for. Women hidden in a secret compartment! This opens a case for a human trafficking ring in the area. Chloe meets Deputy US Marshal Blake MacCallum when one of the girls calls him from the hospital. It turns out that Blake's daughter was one of those rescued from the truck. Before Blake can even get to the hospital though Rachael disappears again. Will Chloe and Blake be able to figure out who is behind the trafficking ring before it is too late for Rachael?

Have you ever had one of those books where it is so good yet it stresses you out so much you have to keep putting it down? Called To Protect is one of those books! I loved the suspense, but yet the subject matter was so difficult. There are a few subjects that I have a hard time reading about. Abuse/kidnapping of children and then apparently human trafficking. I think the hopelessness for the victims in both cases touches something in my heart and I just can't deal! Anyway, the author did a great job depicting the subject matter and managed to make me uncomfortable and keep me on the edge of my seat. The relationship between Chloe and Blake was sweet and developed slowly and left in the early stages at the end. They definitely have chemistry together.

So, if you like true-to-life stories and like suspense then I recommend this book to you!

This story, just like all of Lynette Eason’s books, immerses the reader directly into the action and it’s non-stop all the way through. Heart-racing, blood-pumping tension on every page. Some recurring characters from previous books in the series so best to read the books in order. Lots of violence and hard to read. This book is not for sensitive readers. For mature audiences only. The author has an excellent writing style and her books are always well edited.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and NetGalley. These are my own thoughts and opinions.

The St. John family is once again forefront in the Blue Justice series, and this book focuses on K-9 cop, Chloe St. John. When US Marshal Blake Mac Callum's daughter goes missing, he and Chloe join forces as her cousin is also missing under similar circumstances.

The theme focus of this book is human trafficking which is a difficult subject to read about, yet it is in the forefront of today's news. Eason handles it beautifully showing how easy it is to abduct a girl in today's society. She describes the treatment and handling of the girls without so much detail that it is gruesome; but at the same time, making it obvious what a horrible situation sex trafficking is.

Hank the K-9 was one of my favorite characters. It was obvious how well trained he was and how much he wanted to do the job he was being asked to do. Chloe and Blake had a great never give up attitude and were determined to find Blake's daughter and Chloe's cousin. The slowly developing romance between Blake and Chloe was sweet and did not take away from the main focus of the human trafficking.

Riveting and compelling from beginning to end, Eason does an excellent job with a horrible and sensitive subject

Called to Protect is the second book in Eason's Blue Justice series featuring the St. John family comprised mostly of law enforcement personnel. This book focuses on the tragedy related to human trafficking, both the tragedy that leads to it and the tragedy that results from it. Eason graces her readers with cameo appearances by two characters from her Elite Guardians series.

For six months Penny St. John, teenage cousin to Officer Chloe St. John, had been missing. Law enforcement, including most of the St. John family, had been actively searching for her. Unlike Rachel MacCullum whose disappearance had gone unreported. Unreported because she was being held as a means of forcing her father, Deputy US Marshal Blake MacCullum, into killing the judge he was assigned to protect. The only place Blake had to turn was to his best friend, FBI Special Agent Linc St. John, and consequently Linc's sister, Chloe. Would the three of them be able to use their available resources in time to save Rachel and to find Penny?

Human trafficking is becoming a growing problem in our world today. According to the Polaris website, the International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally, and that it is a $150 billion industry worldwide. Force 4 Compassion's site says that 3,287 people are sold or kidnapped and forced into slavery every day, and that is just the reported cases. I appreciate Lynette Eason using her platform as a novelist to keep this issue in the public eye. Let us all seek to be informed of ways we can be part of the solution.

In addition to raising our social consciousness, Called to Protect is a good read. The characters are engaging the plot captivating and well-paced, and the dialogue believable. I highly recommend this book and this author. I thank NetGalley and Revell Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. I just finished the second book in the Blue Justice series, and a warning, once you turn that first page the nonstop action is going to make you keep turning and gasping, as the shoes start to drop. This one is just as good as the first, and we are with the St. John family, and mainly Chloe and her K-9 Hank, but other members of this police family are here.
The book deals with the tough subject of human trafficking and we meet it first hand when a member of their family goes up missing.
While the author is giving us different family relationships here, and there is more than one, we deal with murder as a way of shutting someone up, there doesn’t seem to be any regard for human life, and when the final move is shown it holds many surprises. A don’t miss book, with a final tease at the end!

A teenage girl, related to the MacCallum family, is unwittingly lured into being captured for human trafficking. Six months later, Chloe St. John, a K-9 cop and her family find a possible lead after a traffic accident. Meanwhile, U.S. Marshall Blake MacCallum's daughter goes missing and is being held until he does the unthinkable. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through Netgallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This book is suspenseful from the beginning until the end of the book. I love this book and plan to go back and read the first book in this series. Blake, also, is seeing his best friend's sister, Chloe, in a new light and there is a glimpse of a future romance. This is a Christian romantic suspense book but the emphasis is on the suspense. Blake and Chloe need to rescue his daughter, Rachel, as their first priority.

Lynette Eason delivers again with a suspense thriller that will not disappoint her fans or her new readers! Blake McCallum is hot on the trail of the human trafficking ring that took his daughter Rachel and Chloe is a big help, with her magnificent and talented dog Hank. For me, Hank stole the show (or the plot) with his dogged persistence and steadfast loyalty no matter what he was asked to do. The tension was non-stop as Blake and the St. Johns race against the clock to save Rachel before she is sold at an upcoming auction. The bad guys in this book are really bad, and the action is so breath-taking that it is hard to put the book down until the final satisfying scene. There is just enough clean romance to entice readers of that genre and plenty of suspense for everyone! This is a must-read for Eason fans, and I totally appreciate all of her research that she obviously did into human trafficking and the use of dogs to track people and drugs.

Wow! What a tough subject matter to have as the centre of the investigation and it hits really close to home for quite a few characters. Right from the first page in the action starts and is non-stop the rest of the way through. There were so many times that I was holding my breath waiting to see what would happen next. It did not take me very long to connect with the characters and wanting things to work out for them. The villains had absolutely no regard for human life which made them terrifying. Can Chloe, Hank, Blake and the rest of the team find Rachel and the other girls in time?

I felt drawn to Rachel; she is in such a frightening position. I loved that we got to follow her point of view; this showcased not only how scary her situation is but her determination to overcome. She pushed herself in order to fight for freedom and justice, not only for herself but for the other girls as well.

It pained me to learn what Blake went through in his past relationship and how it has affected his relationship with his daughter. I felt his fatherly love shine though and really hoped Rachel would get the chance to know just how much he loved her.

I enjoyed how the talents of Chloe’s canine partner, Hank, were featured. I enjoyed how the relationship between Blake and Chloe developed slowly and took a back seat to the case. I liked that it was not pursued until the case was wrapped up. You could feel the connection between these two but they both put their focus on the case first.

Ms. Eason writes a gripping story that provides just enough detail for you to connect with the characters but does not go overboard on the details that will make you cringe. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next installment to be released.

Book two of Blue Justice series, Called to Protect by Lynette Eason is a great read. Full of action, suspense and a little romance. Good writing and a scary subject. Human trafficking. Ms. Eason keeps you turning the pages to see what will happen next. Continuing from the first book in this series, An Oath of Honor, Chloe is a member of the St. John family. Many of whom are all involved in law enforcement. With the teaser at the end of the book I'm already excited to read the next book.

I received this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Chloe and her canine partner, Hank are out to find and close down a human trafficking operation in this action filled story. I love the closeness of this family as each of them play their part in law enforcement. This book reminds me of Dee Henderson's highly acclaimed O'Malley series. There are a lot of characters to keep up with in this book which proved challenging. Highly recommended!

Loved this book. Chloe is a K-9 cop and is good at what she does. Blake has always been a family friend, but she has always had a secret crush on him. He is a US Marshall and his daughter has been kidnapped so he will kill the judge he is protecting. Chloe and her family are determined to help Blake find his daughter.

The family has an additional hat in the ring with a cousin having gone missing into a human trafficking ring. The two cases are connected, everyone knows it. So finding Blake's daughter will help more than just him, it will give them information to maybe help their cousin. This was an adrenaline filled book, with no down time at all. The author did a great job with handling touchy subjects and had obviously done her research.

It was a 5/5!

An outstanding sequel to Oath of Honor (Blue Justice, #1, read it and loved it!) and what I hope turns out to be a continuation of this amazing series about this strong law enforcement family. This book is Chloe St. John’s story and she finds herself attracted to U.S. Marshall Blake MacCallum. Blake’s daughter, Rachel, is missing and he has been told to kill the judge that he is protecting if he wants to see his daughter again. Chloe is a K-9 officer along with her canine partner Hank and while working an accident scene, it turns in to a human trafficking situation. Ms. Eason will weave these two intense storylines as Chloe’s case will overlap with Blake’s. She and Blake must both concentrate on bringing Rachel home alive as well as the other young girls. This is a heart wrenching story due to the human trafficking that is all too real a threat to our young people everywhere. I love the strong Christian and moral code that runs through every book that Ms. Eason writes. Her characters are so genuine and you cheer for them as they do what is right and honorable. Called To Protect is the second book in the Blue Justice series that takes place in Columbia, South Carolina. The series revolves around the St. Johns family of law enforcement and the medical profession. It is a large family and I am happy to think that maybe that means a long series is in store. The matriarch of the family is the Chief of Police and the siblings work in the same police department as well as the FBI. This is the story of Chloe and her K-9 Partner, Hank, and a family friend, Blake MacCallum, a US Marshall. Blake's daughter, Rachel, goes missing and someone is threatening to kill Rachel if Blake doesn't kill the Federal Judge that he is protecting. The judge is sponsoring a bill to make a heavier sentence to those convicted of human trafficking and someone wants to stop him. A semi trailer truck was involved in a wreck and was found to have drugs and girls that have been missing. The girls appear to part of human trafficking ring involving drugs. It becomes apparent that everything is tied together. A task force is put in place to pool resources from different federal agencies to find the culprits.
This is a fast paced and action packed story that is typical Lynette Eason. Ms. Eason knows how to tell a tale full of great likable characters, danger and suspense. It is edgy and stressful as law enforcement works to find the bad guys and thus the victims as quickly as possible. A little faith and romance rounds the story out for a great Christian suspense. We see appearances of characters from other series as well.

This one was hard to put down! It really opened my eyes to how easy it can be to get caught up in a sex trafficking ring. I highly recommend reading this one and educating yourself on the signs for a sex trafficking ring.

I loved Oath of Honor, the first book in this series, and couldn't wait to dive into the second one. I didn't know if it could possibly be as good as the first one, but I had no need to worry. It definitely is! It's an intense nail-biter from the very first page. It had my anxiety high and my heart racing.

Dealing with the serious topic of human trafficking, Called to Protect is a compelling, heart wrenching, and hard to put down read. It's disturbing to think that what happens in this book is actually happening all over the world right now. It wasn't always an easy read, but it's an important one. I appreciate books that shine a light on these heinous crimes.

One of my favorite aspects of this story was the relationship between Chloe and her K-9 partner Hank. The amount of trust they had in each other was awesome. It just reiterated how amazing those dogs are.

It was great being back with the St. John family and even though this is book two in the series, it stands alone just fine. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys heart-pounding suspense. I can't wait for the next one!

Suspense, thriller; Romance, clean; mild Christian faith elements
Intense, fast paced novel with human trafficking of young women as the backdrop for this criminal thriller. Chloe St. John's job as a handler of a trained drug and tracking dog, Hank provides an interesting twist on this detective story. U.S. Marshall Blake MacCallum's daughter is taken and notches up the intensity as he is pressured to commit a crime to save his diabetic daughter's life. Criminals, Chloe's missing cousin, Blake and Chloe's growing attraction to each other, and lots of family backstory made for an interesting read. Love the honorable, hardworking, and diligent law enforcement story, along with the family background for both characters. Both characters have background that make their romance and their determination to find and arrest the criminals, a great read.
If you like action/suspense/criminal drama with a dash of romance, and some faith as part of your read, this is a great fit.

For the past year, Chloe St. John has been working as a K-9 cop with her German shepherd partner, Hank. After being dumped by her fiancé for another woman, Chloe has decided that Hank is just about the only male she likes. She's over the whole romance thing and focuses her attention on doing her job. Because a serious case of human trafficking with connections to her missing cousin just landed in her lap.

When US Marshall Blake MacCallum's daughter goes missing, he's ordered to kill the judge he's protecting and tell no one about his daughter's disappearance or she will die. Blake races against the clock to rescue his daughter while Chloe and Hank are asked to be a part of the task force assembled to bring down the traffickers. Chloe finds herself attracted to the silent, suffering man, but thanks to her previous bad judgment, she wonders if she can trust him. And can Blake trust himself around this firecracker of a woman?

Bestselling author Lynette Eason warns readers to buckle in for a fast and furious ride that will have their hearts pumping from the very start.

Lynette Eason has done it again. There is suspense everywhere you turn. Chloe gets into all kinds of situations where her life is put in danger. Blake is put in a terrible situation. Does he kill or does his inaction get his daughter killed. This is a fast paced story with a little romance thrown in. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next installment of this series.
