Although it is not written badly, it's definitely not for me. If you like a slow pace, slow burn, slow action, then go for it, if not - then it's not for you. The characters were given all the intriguing characteristics, but it's just not used: he is a tomb rider who does not ride tombs and she's an Egyptolog who does not use her knowledge...

Alexandra Quinn has spent her life uncovering and studying ancient relics. But when her own past resurfaces, she isn’t prepared. The man who shattered her young heart is the last person she’d expect to rescue her from an intruder just in the nick of time. To solve a string of murders from Cairo to London, she’ll have to work with the rakish Benedict Weston, Viscount Marlsbrook. Alex knows better than to trust Benedict, but it’s impossible to forget his kiss and the wicked promise it holds.
This was a cute story. I’ve read and watched similar plots but it didn’t really deter from the enjoyment of the book. I liked both characters. However, I do wish there had been more of a treasure-hunting to it as the description makes you think.

Rating 3/5

This was a huge disappointment! It started off great with the introduction of Egypt and its history and has an amazing foundation for an exciting quest for the characters to embark on but NONE OF THAT HAPPENED! I was so sad, especially because I love Egypt's history! Benedict is a tomb raider who doesn't raid any tombs. Alexandra is an egyptologist who is danger and has history with Benedict so is distraught when she discovers he's the one sent to protect her while they work out a murder. While I liked the plot of their second chance romance, I didn't like the lack of adventure that made it all the more special. I mean its Egypt people! Why did they leave what could have been a fantastic adventure full of mummies and reincarnations and tombs for the cold city of London. Very boring.

Historical Romance that includes a "Rakish Lord" and a murder mystery means I know I'm in for a good time! This was set in the 1890s so it wasn't the bodice ripper I was hoping for, but it is a sweet second chance romance!

I absolutely adored Alex. I loved her strength and straight forward attitude. She wasn't about to let anyman walk over her but she was also feminine and kind. I loved the contrast of her character.

I wish I could have read the othwr books first. I don't normally read murder and mystery historical romance books but I was thoroughly engaged with this one. I thought Alexandria and Benedict made an awesome couple together. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

I received a free copy for an honest review from netgalley. Murder betrayal mystery and love. This book has them all. I love that the main characters knew each other before the start of the story. This is definitely a little bit different from the other books I've read in this category but definitely worth a read.

Received in exchange for a honest review.

this was a great addition to the series. I enjoyed the suspense aspect while seeing Benedict admit he is in love and questioning himself and his ways. He had reasons for doing what he did that Alex didn’t like but it did put a drift in their relationship.

Benedict is a good main male character. He is strong, stubborn, didn’t always do what others agreed with but was necessary and totally in love with Alex. He feared love because he felt he didn’t deserve the love of Alex or anyone for he isn’t a good person. Even though he sacrifices for others he felt he didn’t meet up to what the other person should have in a partner.

Alex was stubborn and independent. She stuck by her guns but also was passionate and caring. When she gets stuck in the danger accidentally by her mentor is when Benedict came back into her life. She still had feelings but didn’t want to let him in because of the fear of him hurting her again. She was also wary of his motives.

At one point we see them succumb to their feelings and you see the spark and attraction between them. You see Benedict fighting himself and changing. He is wanting to be what Alex needs. As the danger ramps up and the mystery of who is killing those around them they are getting closer. Only Alex didn’t really quite trust Benedicts motives and when this is realized and spoken it does crush Benedict.

Than he does the ultimate sacrifice and things should change. But Benedict is fearful and it takes one man to open his eyes and the end is amazing. A great entertaining story that has you engrossed from the beginning..

Alexandra Quinnis an expert in translating hieroglyphics. Someone thinks she has been sent a map that will lead to treasure in Egypt. That puts her in grave danger. Her problem is, who is the bad guy that has been killing people for the map???.
Among the suspects is the man she was once engaged to.
Benedict Weston needs the money from the artifacts he finds to get his family estate out if debt. Just how far will he go to do that??
A romantic, murder/ mystery for us and our characters to solve. Our brave and independent by heroine will go to any lengths to find the villain.
An entertaining historical adventure.

Alexandra Quinn is a scholar of Egyptology whose friend Professor Stockwell has entrusted her with a mysterious artifact of a long dead king with a curse. She’s attacked in her home by an intruder looking for a map when she’s rescued by Lord Benedict Marlsbrook. After Benedict he discovered the professor murdered he knew Alex was next on list and vowed to keep her safe, and get the map. Benedict had broken Alex's heart years ago when he walked away from their love, but when they must work together to stop the cunning murderer. Alex is again tempted by Benedict’s kisses and the passion smolders between them, but is either willing to be heartbroken again when the adventure is over after they find the killer. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

This wasn't a bad book, but it just didn't capture my interest. The whole secret message story line was hard to get in to.

'A rare gift'

Intrigue and secrets in the cut and thrust 19th century world of the antiquity hunter. What was it about? It was a time when Egyptologists went in droves to ancient sites risking life and limb to unlock the mysteries of the Pharos with their discoveries of ancient tombs and cities. Jealousy and competition were rife. There is no doubt that countries heritages were ravaged, their cultural histories decimated. Some worked for the riches involved, selling priceless artifacts to the highest bidder, others committed to making sure the treasures stay within the countries who had the right to them.
Benedict Weston, Viscount Marlsbrook, a brilliant archeologist, was of the former set, using his skills to right his family's fortunes. In taking that path he threw aside his chance for happiness with the only woman he ever loved.
Intelligent Alexandra Quinn, a renowned Egyptologist, is disturbed by an intruder, intent on not only stealing an artifact sent to her by her mentor, but it seems she is on the menu. Ok so in a Harrison Ford raider of the lost ark move, Benedict arrives in time to save her. What seems like attempted robbery is placed in the light of other innocuous deaths of persons associated with her now deceased mentor and his last quest.
A trail of bloodshed leads from Cairo to the drawing rooms of Lomdon. Who is behind it is unknown, but their hand appears to reach everywhere and Alexandra is a prime target.
Of course the interplay between Alexandra and Benedict is the new unknown. Can Alexandra ever trust him again? Can Benedict be someone other than he is?
A grand adventure with a tortured romance and menacing evil overtones. Ah! The Dance!

This very good novel starts off with her in the study, she starts to hear noises and knows she is not alone. He stalks her and she is forced to shoot him, he is wearing body armor. Benedict Weston, Lord Marlsbrook, came to her assistance when she is attacked in her house. Benedict and Alexandra had once been in love. But he had deserted her and gone to Egypt for several years. This book definitely kept my attention. Everybody seems to be an Egyptian authority. Benedict, I would not trust anything he said or did. He always seems to have an ulterior motive. I think he is a scoundrel and not trustworthy. She always seems to be nice and sweet except to scoundrels.
I like the book and found it had danger, murder, and intrigue. The author did a great job with this story, it was well written, coherent and easy to read. Her characters were very lifelike and in tune with each other to a degree. I highly recommend this tale and look forward to reading more of her books.

This was the third book in Ms. Kingston's Her Majesty's Most Secret Service series. I have not read the first two books yet; but rest assured, this can be read as a standalone with no confusion whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I bought this author's other books because this one was so much fun.

Alexandra and Benedict had a past, and things didn't end well. They were reunited in the explosive opening of this story. There was a series of mysterious deaths. Was Benedict involved? Was Benedict and/or Alex in danger? The hunt for answers quickly commences, in order to thwart any more tragedies. Even though Alex and Benedict loved each other, I didn't feel it was a sure thing that would be enough for their HEA. I liked that there was suspense throughout the entire story.

I received this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

I found Alex to be fascinating, she is an Egyptologist that is able to stand up for herself. The chemistry with Benedict crackled off the pages. They are forced to work together and I found myself racing through it. I was not disappointed in this book at all!

When Benedict Weston, Viscount Marlsbrook comes back to London from Egypt to save Alexandra Quinn, woman that he has loved and lost, he never knew he will be thrust into a mystery. As Alexandra and Benedict rush to unravel the mystery before the murderer gets to them, they also start falling for each other again. This is a lovely second chance romance story.

This isn’t a bad book, it’s well written and has an interesting theme, but I just couldn’t get into the couple. The H was a bit of an ass, seducing and leaving the h when she was younger, then coming back and doing it again ten years later. And the ridiculous “secret”message to be deciphered, zodiac signs, in Greek? That was just stupid to me. If you’re going to warn someone, or leave clues to something, that isn’t the way, There is a HEA, but by then, the H had burned all his bridges for me.

Having read this author once before I wanted to try another. This is a interesting series with the story being the tempter also. Suspense and romance are in this set back in time. This one is centered around Alexandra and Benedict. With murder a factor of the mystery it gives the thrill you want in this. Being it is set back in time makes it more interesting also. This is one that you follow these two with their personalities being such they keep you interested. Magic and mystery is a good formula with you being the one that benefits.
