This is a hilarious children's book told by a squirrel named Taco. Taco speaks directly to the reader, explaining a few facts about squirrels and sharing his favorite food - tacos, of course! The illustrations and the interactive story make this a laugh out loud read for kids!
Cute, educational and funny! I learned some things I didn't know about these little creatures.
With just enough silliness to keep kids entertained THIS IS A TACO allows them to learn about squirrels without getting bored. But it also brings up a larger message. As Taco says, if you want tacos in your stories, you have to make it happen. Taco the squirrel is resourceful and finds a way to keep itself safe, while also getting what it wants. Taco basically sends the message that life is what you make of it.
I loved this book! It was so adorable! The illustrations are fantastic and the story is funny!
Overall I liked the idea and tone of this book, but the execution was a little clunky in spots--specifically what the squirrel says in the first spread and last spread. It's going for Be Quiet! meets Dragons Love Tacos, and *almost* gets there.
Andrew Cangelose brings the world Taco the squirrel in This Is a Taco. You get a page of dialogue and then a picture on the facing page. But when Taco is not pleased with the text, he will make changes with a red marker. Plenty of fun is you like snarky squirrels and/or Tacos.
Thanks Netgalley for the chance to read this tale.
This book was absolutely hilarious. I will be buying this for the kids in my life and maybe for some adults who love tacos too!
This book is so cute! It is a educational picture book featuring a squirrel who has names himself Taco because he loves tacos. He as agreed to be in this book to help readers learn about squirrels. When he finds out there is a part about hawks being the predator of a squirrel he gets scared and rewrites the story to feature tacos! He has to rearrange the wording a few times to get the storyline he wishes. The book changes every time he rewrites it.
I was happy to get this copy from NetGalley, as I love to take short breaks from heavier plots by reading some children's/middle grade books - it's just such a simple world with laughter and learning. This is a Taco is no different. It's short and whimsical and I'm sure children will love it. The drawing style is quite unique but simple and I like that the learning of squirrels is frequently interrupted by Taco (the squirrel) when he doesn't agree with the narrator. A sweet little book that I think most kids would enjoy.
A squirrel is promised tacos if he appears in a nonfiction story about squirrels. But things go quickly downhill when promised tacos do not appear. This is one determined squirrel. He is going to get his tacos even if he has to write them in himself. This was a lot of fun. The illustrations combined with the story is sure to make kids laugh.
This was a cute book! The illustrations were done very well and children will love seeing them. I like how the story gave facts and then the squirrel changed it to suite himself.
I'm always drawn to the ridiculous, and this sort of book can be just as entertaining for adult readers as for younger readers.
This Is a Taco! is a fun book about making your own story.
Not all squirrels are happy living off nuts and tree bark. Some prefer a good crispy taco, and can you blame them? This delightful picture book is the story of one such squirrel who dares to fight the narrator and find its own happy ending with tacos. Assisted by charming art work, this storybook is sure to be a fun read with your own rebel squirrels.
When I read a children's book to my 5 year old nephew I expect him to laugh and want to read it again. I don't think he really understood this one and said the squirrel was "kinda rude" for interrupting the story. I thought the story was cute but I think he is just a little too young to understand the true message about making your story what you want it be.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was unable to read this book as the data was corrupt and would not open via kindle or Adobe Digital Editions. I would love to read it still if the file can be fixed.
Taco is a squirrel. He loves tacos. This book is designed to inform the reader about squirrels, using Taco as an example - however, when we get to a discussion of squirrel predators, Taco takes it upon himself to intervene, not wanting to be eaten by a hawk - and who could blame him?! Editing your own story requires a careful hand, though, as Taco soon discovers...
This picture book is both fun and informative - and would probably be a big hit at storytime!
I received access to this title via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book! I too love tacos, so the title caught my eye. It's about a squirrel who isn't a typical squirrel. He really loves tacos. It gives some fun squirrel facts as well. It's so funny and clever. This would be great for even kids that are a little older (like 2 grade) down. If you get a chance to read this, do it!

Taco is a silly, funny squirrel which we had a lot of fun reading about. The books started with some information about squirrels, then changes to another narrative done by Taco. It's kind of teaching kids with engaging illustrated books. Eventually if the character is cute, kids love it. And Taco is very cute :)
We loved it, recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for giving a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Book is blank. Nothing more than book cover. It looked like it should be a good. Book. I hope they fix the download.
Kids love silly books. Sometimes the kind of humor that kids love, works for adults as well. In this case, it was dumb humor, which I usually don't like, but it worked for me. The fourth wall has come down, and Taco, the name of the squirrel , takes over.

This starts out being an educational book about squirrels, but then jumps the shark, and goes off the rails, as Taco takes over the narrative, and saves his own life.

Taco is funny, and silly and dumb, and I had a lot of fun reading about him.
The perfect antidote for all those books out there that try to teach science in pitcure books.
