This was really cute! It started out like any other "nature" book--with habitat and eating habits, but with the menace of hawks--squirrels' natural predator--it literally went off-script and tacos ensued!
That story was hilarious! It was informative and imaginative. I am super curious to see how soft squirrels are and do they really eat tree bark? The ending with Taco and all the Tacos was hilarious! Definitely, recommend! Thank you to the publisher for providing me a copy to review.
This is a Taco is a very cute, short book completely appropriate for its age range. The book is about a squirrel, named Taco, and gives a brief overview about squirrels. I even learned something new… who knew that their ankles could turn all the way around! The pictures were cute too.
Made me smile.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher, Diamond Book Distributors, for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Taco is a squirrel. He is the star of this seemingly informational book about squirrels. Taco doesn't like everything that's in this book, so he decides to change a bunch of the words. That doesn't always work out as he planned, but it ends up great for taco lovers!
Good for preschool storytimes. It would be great for school age kids who are doing a unit on writing and editing your work as well.
"This Is a Taco!" is such a cute book! I suppose I am biased since I work in an elementary library, my daughter's favorite food is tacos and when she was younger she named all the squirrels that came into our yard.... but still! Taco the squirrel loves tacos, all he can think about are tacos! When a hawk almost snatches him up for lunch, he does some quick thinking, grabs a red marker and changes the story. It is a quick read that young readers would enjoy.
This was the cutest picture book. First I must thank netgalley for this advanced reader copy. The book follows a little squirrel named Taco that is obsessed with tacos. It is an educationally funny book that gives the reader some squirrel info as well as lots of fun and silliness. I would highly recommend this book to everyone of all ages to read. It will definitely make you smile.
A picture book will always have some space in my virtual shelves. One of them would be this book. Its illustration is beautiful. The story is hilarious.
One big problem, they are just too short. When I want to read more, they brought me to the end of the book.
I thought this was a really cute Children's book-- imaginative and informative. Loved the squirrel 'hijacking' the story. I really liked the illustrations too. Nice book for early readers and for parents to read to their children.
Funny read - kids will love Taco! It begins as a non-fiction book until Taco gets his paws on it!
I think this could be a cute book about editing writing to craft the story that you want. But instead it comes off as a book confused with being fiction or nonfiction and also a book with contradictory info about squirrels. I did think the illustrations were cute and as a writing mentor text it could be useful. I enjoyed it, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.
Boy would I have liked more squirrel facts instead of Taco interrupting all of the time to talk about tacos, but alas.
I didn't know squirrels can move their ankles around to be able to climb in any direction. Either way, then it became a broken record of a discussion about how hawks shouldn't be the natural predators of squirrels but squirrels should be the natural predators of tacos.
It's funny, it's got a quirky kind of style in that things are crossed out and written over by our main character Taco, but I think it could have moved a bit further into the fact-sharing realm and still been a funny book about a squirrel named Taco.
This is a Taco! is a story about Taco the squirrel who loves to eat tacos. The book provides several facts about squirrels that Taco revises to fit the life he wants. A cute story that little kids should really enjoy.
This is a fun book! I smiled all the way through it. Taco is a squirrel with attitude, and information. Both the illustrations and story are great. It will be so much fun to read this to my young grandchildren!
Very cute, informative, funny, and entertaining. I'd certainly pick this over a bedtime story with my son than anything else.

I love meta-fiction, particularly in children's picture books. Such titles serve as great mentor texts for exploring elements of author's (and illustrator's) craft. This book parodies the genre of children's informational texts about nature by featuring a subject - Taco the Squirrel - who isn't particularly representative of the species. Taco rebels against the master expository text, breaking out of the role of illustrated subject to take control of the exposition as author and determiner of the illustration. It's brief, engaging, and clever, with lots of entry points for kids to play with harmony and disruption between text and image and subject-object relations in English sentence structure.

Really funny little book, excellent to read aloud for small children. Witty, smart and educational.
Review A non-fiction book about squirrels that is hijacked by an actual squirrel who doesn't agree with the facts. Fun illustrations and a cute story, but I would have liked to have a little more factual information, and maybe a slicker way of Taco changing the wording. This would have made it easier for this to be read aloud to a class.

A funny, adorable book about a sassy, taco-loving squirrel. As the book goes through various facts about squirrels, Taco turns these facts on their head, revealing he hates tree bark (but loves tacos!) and has a fear of heights. Eventually, Taco gets tired of the narrator talking about squirrels and decides to rewrite the book into his own story. It has a very inspirational ending message, as well ;)
For some reason, many of my coworkers are squirrel fans and when I shared this book title with them, they immediately squealed and demanded it be purchased for circulation. Having now read the book, I fully agree with them. Taco is a delightful little squirrel who loves to mess with his narrator and kids (and parents) are absolutely going to get a kick out of his adventures in this comic-style picture book!
