This is a terrific series- I somehow missed passing along my praise for this installment which as always had me rooting for Robo most of all. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This is book 4 of the Timber Creek Mystery K-9 Mystery Series. Officer Mattie and her K-9, Robo, are called to a murder scene. There they find the charred remains in a shallow grave. Then, 2 more adults and a child are found on the Ridge as well. Will Mattie and Robo survive the killers rampage, as she tries to solve the murders and stay alive.

I am almost caught up with this K-9 series and have enjoyed it very much. This book is a great addition to the series. It starts off with Cole Walker, local vet and Mattie's "boyfriend" is out riding with his daughters. Their dog comes running with a stick, at least that is what they thought it was until he came closer. It was a boot, with a foot inside it. They hurry home and Cole calls the police. Mattie and Robo are called in to see what they can find. What they find is a body that looks like it was burned, but before or after death is the question. As the crime lab and coroner investigate, it ends up that Mattie will have an unexpected link to this victim of foul play.

Mattie and Robo have an amazing bond, as partners, as companions and as family. Robo knows when something is wrong with Mattie and vice versa. Robo has so many skills. He is not a cadaver dog, but can find dead bodies, he can scent an area and recognize the scent later, he is also a search and rescue dog, so is often called on by the police for investigations, which means Mattie also gets involved. Sometimes that involvement puts her in danger. Once again the supporting characters add much to the story. Maddie has taken a local teen under her wing when she finds out that her father is often away and she is alone a lot. Does she and her father have anything to do with the murder? There are a few suspects in this case, but motive is a question that needs to be solved. Mattie and Cole are becoming closer in this story, and when she is in danger, nothing will keep Cole out of the investigation. The story moved along at a fast pace, building suspense throughout with twists and multiple suspects. The plot had enough complexity to keep readers invested until the satisfactory ending. I will definitely continue reading this series and whole heartily recommend it.

A solid instalment in an engaging series. The heart of this - and what I really love - is both the Colorado wilderness setting and the relationship between Mattie and Robo. Very readable.

A friend recommended this series to me, and when I saw this latest book available for review from Netgalley I decided to give it a try. A few pages in I decided to stop and go back to read the first 3 books in the series and I'm glad I did. I've enjoyed this series, and I've enjoyed watching the author hone her technique as it progresses. It's clear that she knows the animal side of the stories (both from a veterinarian aspect and a dog handling one). And over the series she's done a good job of revealing the whys and hows of her main character, small town police officer Mattie Cobb, and the reasons for the dysfunction in her personal life. This one has an interesting mystery and the investigation reveals more of Mattie's family background to both Mattie and the reader. The entire series has engaging characters and beautiful descriptions of the Colorado setting. And then there's the dog, K-9 Officer Robo. I do love a good story with a dog as a major character. I'm a fan, and look forward to the next installment in this series. As an aside, I did listen to the first 3 books and parts of this one, and can also recommend the audiobook versions for those who enjoy listening.

My thanks to Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for providing a copy for an unbiased review.

When K-9 officer Mattie Cobb and her canine partner Robo track down a body on Colorado’s Redstone Ridge they have no idea they are in the cross-hairs of a vicious murderer. As Mattie and her friends and colleagues work a crime scene accessible only by horseback, the murderer is waiting in the wings with knowledge from Mattie’s past that will change her present and future forever…if she survives.

As the clues lead investigators to identify the body, Mattie and her crew make more gruesome discoveries on the ridge that link the current murder to a crime that is decades old.

When the murderer attacks Robo and Mattie, will they both make it out alive or will the past overwhelm her?

Burning Ridge is a gripping read that had me turning pages well past when I’d planned to put the book down. Between wonderful, vivid descriptions of amazing landscapes and well developed characters and a plot just complex enough to keep you guessing and following the clues, the story pulls you right in. Set aside time to read when you pick up Burning Ridge, part of the Timber Creek K-9 Mystery series.

Burning Ride is the second book I've read in the Timber Creek K-9 Mystery series. And, I just have to face the fact that this series isn't for me. And, it all boils down to the fact that I'm just the wrong reader. It's a bit frustrating when a book has everything I usually like, a small town with a main character with a traumatic past. And, of course, a dog. Who doesn't like dogs? Yet, I feel no connection with the story nor the characters. It's so bland. And, that's just my opinion. I'm sure others love this series and I get it. I wish I did. Instead, I feel during the progress of this book that it just lulls along at a slow pace and that I'm not truly engaged in the story.

Now, this all sounds pretty negative. However, this is just me. If you like crime stories, set in small towns and if you are a dog lover. Then, I don't see why this series won't work for you. It's not all bad, you know. I did want to know the ending of the book and it was an interesting ending.

Mattie and her K-9 partner are so well done in this well written, very suspenseful series. The amount of action keeps the pace of the book moving quickly and recent fires in the news makes those parts seem very vivid.

This is the 1st of the series I've read; there is a lot of back story I missed, I'm sure. And the story is so sad - no resolution on so many levels. I might read the next in the series, but have no need to go back.

I love mystery, suspense, and romance all rolled into one story. Margaret Mizushima does a good job combining all three. Burning Ridge is the fourth book in this series that gets better with each new book.

I found this series through my buddy read group. I love the characters, especially the K-9 partner, Robo who works with Mattie on her cases. The slowly developing romance between Mattie and Cole Walker, the local vet, is moving forward nicely. Each book gives the reader a little more insight into the main characters, the small town where they live, and the mountain scenery.

The police procedural is well researched and unfolds realistically in each novel. The tension and suspense builds to a nail-biting crescendo that had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put the book down.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I would love it if the author decides to make audios in the future. I would listen again.

This had me from the first page! I loved how facts from the past kept changing the truths of the present, until no one really knew what was really going on. It was fascinating to see how it all wove together so seamlessly at the end. And there was a really fabulous dog!

This is the 4th book in this series and perhaps reading the previous books would benefit readers .

This is my 1st book by the Author but won't be the last - both the concept of k-9s use in law enforcement and the great characters make for a great book .

Mattie Cobb and her partner, K-9 Robo, are part of the police force in Timber Creek - they are called out to the discovery of charred remains of a body .
The hunt for the killer and the facts about Mattie's past revealed hooked me right in . The supporting characters are well developed and gave weight to the storyline .
The plot was complex , fast paced building to a suspense filled ending .

I will definitely be reading the previous books in the series and any future ones in this setting
.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't realize this was a book in a series when I requested it. I am very particular about reading books out of order but in this case I not only really enjoyed the book but was also introduced to a new author. I will now be in search for the rest of the series.
Mattie Cobb is dragged into a investigation with very personal ties. Her whole history of the life she thought she came from will be brought to light. Once the investigation is in full swing, Mattie is kidnaped from her home after finding her faithful K-9 partner, Robo, drugged in her yard. Cole Walker, Mattie's boyfriend, has to act fast to save Robo's life and find Mattie before the worst can happen. .
This is a great who done it and I love any book that features a human/dog relationship.
Can't wait to read the rest of Margaret Mizushima's books

Well done! The featured K-9 is true to breed, and I loved that. Thank you to the author. This book has a bit of romance, lots of mystery and some suspense. Pure enjoyment. I would love to read the others in this series.

My copy came from Net Galley. My review is my own left here because I can do that.

Mattie Cobb and her partner, K-9 officer Robo, are part of the police force in Timber Creek, CO. When the local vet and his daughters discover partial human remains while horseback riding on a nearby ridge, Mattie responds to the scene with Robo. Finding charred remains of a body in a burn pit, Mattie is soon on the trail of a brutal killer. The case becomes quite complex, revealing secrets about Mattie's own life that she has tried to hide.

Wow! This book totally sucked me right into the story from the very start. Burning Ridge is the 4th book in the Timber Creek K-9 series, but I was easily able to jump right in and enjoy the story, the setting and the characters. I'm definitely back-tracking to the start of this series though. I enjoyed this book so much I need to read them all!

Mattie is a strong character and her bond with Robo is awesome, but realistic. The supporting characters (like the local vet love interest, his daughters, a new teenager in town, her foster mom) are all well-developed and give the story weight and atmosphere. I liked how the author wove the murder case in with Mattie's own horrible childhood experiences. It gave the plot a nice complexity. The story moved along at a fast pace, building suspense throughout with twists and multiple suspects. The ending was well done. I didn't want this story to end -- but, I have three prior books in the series to enjoy now!

I will definitely continue reading this series. Can't wait for the next book!!

4 stars

This is another great book in the Timber Creek K-9 Mystery series. The author delves deeper into Mattie's relationship with veterinarian Cole and others in her community, but there is still plenty of action and mystery to keep the reader interested.

While Cole and his daughters take a relaxing ride into the mountains to scout relocation sites for a group of sheep, their dog discovers the charred remains of a murder victim. The police scout the area and find 3 more shallow graves of victims killed in a similar fashion years before the most recent dead man. Mattie and Robo investigate the scene and discover they have a close personal relationship to the dead man. Even more troubling, issues from Mattie's past that she has worked very hard to keep hidden may make her the next victim on the killer's list.

This is a quick, easy, and entertaining read. It's a bit procedural, but the characters and stories are likeable enough that I didn't mind going along for the ride.

I was given a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a gripping mystery with shocking crimes. It is also a good mystery thriller for those that enjoy thrillers. It is the story of a working K-9 and his handler as they discover bodies and work to solve the cases. I found the writing fast paced and the charcters well crafted to the story. It was a little dark [ for me as I do not usually read violence and had to skip a few pages. I did enjoy the writing and hope to read more books by this author. The plot and story were excellent.

Thank you for the ARC which does not influence my review.

When veterinarian Cole Walker and his daughters discover a burned boot with foot still inside, Deputy Mattie Cobb and her K9 partner Robo are called in to see if Robo can find the rest of the body. They find a horrific scene with burned remains and the case comes too close to home for Mattie when the victim's identity is revealed. Then the situation becomes direr when three more burned and buried bodies are found nearby. These victims had died 30 years ago but the MO with the current victim is too similar to be ignored.

Mattie's childhood past continues to haunt her and she ends up in danger when the killer sets his eyes on both her and Robo. Now it's a race against time for Cole and the police to save Mattie as a forest fire engulfs the wilderness near the crime scene.

This was a thrilling read and another strong entry in the Timber Creek K9 mystery series.

I received an eARC via Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.

This is the fourth Timber Creek K-9 Mystery. The writing is stilted and the story is improbable. I finished it but did not care for it much. The author telegraphs a lot so there isn't much that surprises.
