This book has a great concept and I loved the fact that it is bilingual but I wasn't a huge fan of some of the images and I didn't find them very child friendly. I showed the pictures to my daughter and it didn't keep her attention which is a shame but they may appeal to other children (she didn't like the faces). Other than that minor issue its a good book, positive, bright and a good learning tool.

If you know a child who loves capes this is a must read! Capes are magical and when you put one on you have super powers! Combine this love of capes and add a splash of Spanish and you have the perfect book! Great Cape o' Colors: Capa de Colores is a great book for teaching children Spanish! Each page is colorful and bright and features a child in a different type of cape. Children will learn in Spanish the color of the cape and who wears this type of cape. A superhero wears a red cape...children will learn that red in Spanish is rojo and hero in Spanish is un héreo! A king wears a purple cape...púrpura is purple and un rey is king! Also included in this book is a Spanish pronunciation guide! Children will have fun reading Capa de Colores to find their favorite cape and will learn Spanish along the way!

We are bookworm couple and we have made sure that our kid listens to bedtime story every day. It makes us look for new story/material frequently. During one such hunch, I was mail from the author of Great Cape O Color. And I said yes.

Well, the book contains various roles/characters/working people and what they wear in life. The same line is given in Spanish so kids can learn the language. There is no story part. Yes but good learning part, which for me is must in kids bok.

A good artwork. You can call is Pictionary of color and roles.

This book contains just about every occupation that could possibly use a cloak or cape. It starts out strong but gradually becomes a bit silly or forced. By the time it gets to Little Red Riding Hood it’s exhausted all the ideas. Every page contains text in English and Spanish, with a pronunciation guide at the beginning. The artwork is basic and the grammar easy.
At the end there’s a color wheel, which is always fun. In all it’s probably a good time for little ones, even if it loses traction as it goes.
Just to add, there’s a link for extras online, but as of my reading there’s nothing on the publisher’s website on this book. Might be too new.

Clever idea for a children's book to have a cape that changes colors to pretend the children are different characters or professions. I like that it was bilingual, except that it was not laid out as cleanly on some of the pages to fit in both English and Spanish.. The illustrations were pretty good. However, there could be some improvement to the faces to make them look more child-like.

This is a nice bilingual book. It’s the story of a cape, and all the things this cape can be to different children. There is nothing truly great about this book, it’s just nice. It’s simple for little ones to compare the Spanish and English words. The illustrations seem very dark for a story about great colors. And at the end when they show the color wheel, I wish the color wheel was bilingual as well.

Karl Beckstrand uses a cape to teach colors, cultures and careers to children in Spanish and English. The illustrations are expressive and detailed. The vocabulary is for many interests. The colors were very thorough, some I had never learned. There is also an English-Spanish pronunciation guide to educate, that is appreciated.

This is a educational children's book. Not only does it teach colors, It teaches different careers using the magic cape. And it is written in both English and Spanish so it will teach your child different language. The pictures are bright and colorful and will grab even the smaller kids attention. With the book teaching language I personally believe the book would be good for any aged Child.

I have read and reviewed other books by Karl Beckstrand and really enjoy his book. I love reading to the kids and I prefer educational as well as fun books over fairy tales. Karl books bring both education and fun. The book is very short only about 100 words. So a very quick read, but if you delve into the education part it can make it a bit longer of a read and great way to connect to the childs education.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.

Great Cape o’ Colors by Karl Beckstrand

5 Stars

Magnificent!

The Great Cape o' colors allow children to explore the many different things that they can do with a cape. The capes are different colors and bring to the imagination of what a child can do. The book is in English and Spanish, so it can be a learning tool for children of both languages, and they can learn from each one, while enjoying the magnificent colors and illustrations that lend to the new costumes. The graphics are realistic and have a great hue, not too bright, but definitely colorful. With a brown cape, you can be a space ranger, and with a goldenrod cape, you can have a super suit, and be a heroine.

A cute multicultural book teaching Spanish via a multi-colored cape. Superheroes and wizards, judges and monks. The faces are a little weird, as is some of the art - giving it a rushed, photoshopped sort of feel. But I like the "around-the-world" vibe it gives.

Thanks to NetGalley and Karl Beckstrand for a copy in return for an honest review.
