When most people think of embroidery they think of their grandmothers doilies and table runners, or blankets of colorful thread pictures. This book goes beyond that. It’s about a specific style of embroidery that use geometric patterns to not only create art, but mend everyday use items like jeans, jackets, etc. The author heavily goes through making your own patterns, how they are drawn, and the easiest way to complete each pattern. As someone who has embroidered since childhood, I Liked seeing these new techniques and the unique patterns that seem fresh and new while being classic and useful.

This book gives a creative and fashionable way to mend clothing and other objects. I really enjoyed the aesthetics of this book and that not only did they teach you mending, you had a few other objects you could create new.

A useful little book of patchwork patterns and mending and patching instructions, along with several grid patterns of traditional and modified sashiko embroidery designs. My mother would be horrified to find I needed a book of references for mending instructions, but if you didn't have my mother, with this book you could fake it.

I loved this book! It blends traditional sewing and mending methods with chic modern styles. I used several of the tutorials on my own jeans, and have managed to salvage some favorite clothes that I was considering getting rid of.

The photography in the book is beautiful, and the instructions concise and easy to understand. There are many trendy DIY books out there, but this one rises to the top of the pile for me.

Very aesthetically pleasing sewing book but pretty limited in content. I felt like the products were pretty specific and would be of interest mostly for people already interested in the types of projects covered.

Make and Mend will be a welcome reference for sewers and quilters interested in learning about sashiko. The author explores the history of this method of embroidery. She gives a clear and instructive way to get started, lots of options, a variety of projects, accompanying photographs, mending techniques, and inspiring sashiko patterns. I can’t wait to get started on a project.
