Whew, was this one a wild ride! I wasn't able to put it down as Ella shows up to clean out her dead cousin's apartment and finds a clue that perhaps the drug overdose wasn't an accidental suicide, after all. Before she knows it, she's been kidnapped and she isn't sure that rough-around-the-edges Sam, who rescues her, can be trusted.
I enjoyed the characters and the suspense but at the end it wasn't quite as tight a plot as it started out to be, and Ella makes some extremely risky moves. However, the ending was satisfying and of course it all worked out all right.
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

Gone was a great suspense read. It starts out with the hero, Sam, rescuing Ella...although she doesn't know at first if he is telling the truth and it takes a while for her to trust him. I think one of the most frustrating things about this story to me was how the heroine seemed to just do things sometimes without thinking.
I liked the romance. I thought it was cute how it developed and I loved the ending. I also really liked all of the secondary characters.
All in all, Gone was a very good read. I recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.

Another LIS mystery title! I've read a few others by this author, but it's been a while. It was nice to get back to these books, and this one was well written!

Gone is one calculating, devious, thrilling, mysterious story is awesome - plain awesome - Sam is looking into the human trafficking ring when he saves Ella in the process and ruins his anonymity. How does he do that - well I think you probably can figure that one out - in this one act of Christian love - selflessness - makes Sam the guardian of Ella - now I don't mean parental guardian - -a personal guardian over her - because the guys who tried to get her do not want her opening her mouth - they want to permanently silence her but they have to get through Sam first. Who will come out on top? Well you will not believe what happens next - now that I wont share with you because I am not going to ruin the story - but it is so worth the read and worth the wait to find out for yourselves. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley' all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Gripping intrigue! We're quickly pulled into the story as the second book in Shirlee McCoy's FBI: Special Crimes Unit series kicks off. The characterization is strong as this pair try to figure out who's guilty of what and whether they can count on each other to help get the bad guys. An entertaining read for sure!
FBI Special Agent Sam Sheridon is undercover on a missing teen/human trafficking assignment when he sees a woman being kidnapped and blows his cover to rescue her.
Ella McIntire doesn't believe the stories that are being told about her cousin's death, so while she's in town packing up her belongings, she's doing some investigation on her own. She never expects to get hit over the head and kidnapped in doing so! She's super thankful Sam was there to save her, but she's not sure how much info she can trust him with.

FBI agent Sam Sheridan has been working undercover to dismantle a human trafficking ring. 17 teens missing from the same area in just over a year is an epidemic, and he's got his eye on the prize - until, he witnesses a kidnapping and sees an opportunity to rescue one. He blows his cover to take Ella McIntire out of harm's way, but is stunned to discover, instead of a young teen, a grown woman. As it becomes increasingly clear that Ella is more target than victim, Sam employs everything he's learned as an agent to keep her safe. Will it be enough?
When Ella learned of her cousin's death due to an opioid overdose, she knows something is fishy. Her cousin's mother died of a drug overdose, and her cousin wouldn't even take an aspirin, if she could help it. No way, would she ever OD. Finding herself bound hand and foot in a shipping container, means she's gotten too close. Since her cousin and only family is dead, will anyone even miss her if she disappears?
Gone by Shirlee McCoy takes readers on a thrill ride that careens around twists that I didn't see coming. Suspense readers will especially enjoy the story, although there's enough romance to satisfy the romance reader, too. I definitely recommend reading this one!

Ella is trying to figure out who tarnished her cousins name. She never thought it would wind her up in the killers webs of lies, it quickly did. Ella is a strong character both mentally and physically, but everyone has their breaking point. FBI Agent, Sam, is able to connect with Ella on a deeper level and keep her moving and motivated to survive. Believing her cousins death was not suicide, Sam formed the foundation of trust with Ella. Sam and Ella were working against all odds and survived.
Ms. McCoy does a great job of making novels packed with intense action, the characters are always on their toes. The physical and emotional toll these characters took, was considerable. The supporting characters added to the plot, it gave a deeper sense of trust and community within the small group. Ms. McCoy made her plot believable, while touching on very sensitive issues. The chemistry between Ella and Sam was a little harder to believe in, it felt a little forced. The relationship developed in a time packed with fear and fight or flight, it would be difficult to have a sweep you off your feet romance. Gone is a good read, I would have liked to see a little more of the relationship before the happy ending; however I’m still satisfied with how it all worked out. I would recommend Gone to readers who enjoy more suspense than romance, its a quick read with a happy ending!

Ella is asking questions about the death of a cousin and seems to have caught the eyes of the wrong people. Undercover FBI agent Sam witnesses a kidnapping while trying to take down a trafficking ring and can't help but break cover trying to do whats right and save her. Now hell do everything he can to make sure that she is safe as people are trying to make sure they don't get away.
I love when a short book can are action packed with barely a moments break. I loved getting to know the characters and seeing what Ella did to catch the eyes of these people who came for her. I loved how protective Sam was for her even if it was he job and that he was not the type of person who would back down when witnessing something happen. Although that does seem like bad work ethic he should've expected something like this when going undercover... I loved that there was so much going on to keep the readers guessing. Overall pretty great book I really enjoyed it!

Gone tackles the subject of human trafficking. Ella is undertaking her own search for her cousin Ruby, who is now missing. Agent Sam Sheridan has been investigating a trafficking group for years, and he witnesses Ella being kidnapped by the group.
I get really frustrated with characters who fall into that stereotype of running into danger when they should heed the words of caution. Ella was such a character. She didn't trust Sam. Who doesn't trust an FBI agent without some sort of reason? She acted like a twit sometimes, running off in a panic and disregarding Sam as he tried to keep her safe. I suffered through enough horror movies in my teen years as the teen heroine ran straight into the killer's reach to have much patience in my reading for that sort of thing. What saves her character, though, is that at other times, Ella acted like an adult with regard for what Sam wanted her to do for her own safety. Her caring for her cousin and Sam shows her depths as a character.
Sam makes the story better. He's patient, confidant in his skills, and quite a man. He falls for Ella and will do anything to keep her safe.
In true McCoy fashion, the story moves from one dangerous scene to another. However, it's the emotion around the search for the character of Ruby that makes the story gripping. One of the most emotional scenes is at the end, when Ella finds the answer to her quest.
I've read a lot of Shirlee McCoy books. Her stories always are well-written, packed with action, and bring a bit of the Gospel into the fictional work. Gone releases July 3.

This is book two in the FBI: Special Crimes Unit series. You miss a little history of the main characters but it is still considered a stand alone book.
If you like suspense, action, and mystery you will enjoy this book.
I enjoyed getting reacquainted with this crime unit. If you have not read book one, you will not have trouble understanding this one. This books focus is on Sam Sheridan. He is deep undercover, yet when his cover is blown he will stop at nothing to protect Ella.
Ella is just trying to find out the truth about her friends death. Yet when she stumbles into much more can she allow Sam to help her and still keep her distance?
I look forward to more in this series. I enjoy the writing style of Shirle McCoy

Ella McIntire wakes up tied up in a metal box, not knowing where she is, she was traveling to Maine to investigate her cousin Ruby's death that was ruled a drug overdose. The thing is that Ella knows that her cousin would never have touched drugs, as Ruby's mother was an addict.
Sam Sheridan is part of the FBI Special Crimes Task Force, he's been undercover trying to tie suspects to the Organization a crime ring that preys on homeless people, and foster children, they are also involved in human trafficking. He sees Ella being taken, and rescues her, but she doesn't know who to trust and fights him every step of the way.
Will Sam and Ella be able to work together to stop the Organization and find Ruby's killer?
An action-packed thriller that starts with a bang, high speed chases, and danger around every corner. Sam is used to being the tough guy and protecting himself from being hurt, he admires Ella for her determination to keep going even when she is cold and tired, and how she won't settle for cheap explanations of Ruby's death.
Ella comes to like Sam's team, and she likes that they listen to her, and respect what she has to say. She has a strong faith, and really admires Ruby , who encouraged her when she was going through a hard time.
Overall a fantastic story from beginning to end with high suspense, and plenty of action. I liked the interaction between Ella and Sam as they come to trust and respect each other, and Ella is able to make Sam believe that he doesn't have to be alone. Fantastic read!

Gone by Shirlee McCoy is a Christian romantic suspense. The opening is intense and grabs you attention. The book opens with Ella kidnapped. Ella is a very likable character. She demonstrates that you can be strong without being physically strong and trained. She has been asking questions about the death of her cousin who was her only living relative, Ruby. Even though Ruby has passed away she feels like secondary character and you love her.
This is Sam’s story if you have been following the series, FBI Special Crimes Unit. Although each of the books can be read alone. You will also be excited to see the other team mates actively involved in the case. I love each member of the team and hope they all get their own story. Back to Sam; He seems perfect. He is so calm, cool and collected during all of their adventures. He exudes confidence and competence. He is so sweet to her.
The story line is about human trafficking. It is a very disturbing plot line but the author addressed it very well without a lot of details.

I got into this book from the start. Ella has been kidnapped and is clueless as to why. Sam saw the kidnapping and is determined to save her. I loved that Ella didn't trust Sam at all to begin with. You couldn't blame her either. Who would trust a complete stranger who says they are there to help you right after you've been kidnapped. Sam was a great guy though. He had a job to do but saving Ella came first.
I was happy to have read the previous book about this team but it isn't necessary to follow this book. It stands on its own quite well. I'm hoping the author gives each of the team members their own story because you get to liking them through the series and want each to get their own happy ending. There is action, trust, betrayal, and love in this book. The author did a great job of keeping things interesting and me wanting to finish to see what happens next.
It was a 4/5 for me. Truly enjoying this series.
Thank you to the publisher for the copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

"Gone" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the second in a series, but it works as a standalone. There was plenty of suspense from the repeated attempts to kill the heroine. Sam is a patient, handsome hero who keeps his cool and knows how to keep Ella safe. I understand why she comes to like him.
However, she's like a deer in the headlights. When something spooked her, she panicked and acted irrationally, often dashing directly toward danger. Which made Sam's job doubly difficult. I suppose most people would act this way in real life, but I'm baffled as to why Sam is attracted to her (except her looks). At least, when not panicked, she was willing to follow directions that would keep her safe.
I was surprised that a competent, special FBI team could not anticipate what happened at the very end as I knew what was going to happen, so it felt forced to me. And not much time was spent developing the characters, so they came across as somewhat one dimensional.
The Christian element was the heroine deciding that God does have a plan even during tragic events. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, this is not my favorite novel by this author, but it was still an enjoyable fluff suspense.
