After a string of heavy, tough books, I was ready for a great chick lit read and One Day in December by Josie Silver fit the bill perfectly! Set in London- one of my favorite places on Earth- Laurie is a twenty-something aspiring magazine journalist living with her fabulous and gorgeous best friend Sarah. One day in December (get it??), Laurie is on the top level of a double-decker bus when she sees her dream man sitting as a bus stop. They lock eyes, the world stops, and Laurie falls in love. Unfortunately the bus pulls away before they can meet.

She then spends the next year looking for this mystery love of her life, only to finally be introduced to him at Christmastime as her BEST FRIEND'S NEW BOYFRIEND! The book spans several years and follows Laurie, Sarah, and Jack's (bus guy) points of view. I loved this book because it wasn't just a simple love story, but was honest, real, and complicated with twists and turns galore. There also wasn't a "bad guy" in the group, which made you feel for the characters just that much more. 

If you're looking for your newest beach read, this is it! The ending did NOT disappoint.

I loved this book. It was exactly what I expected, but didn’t lean to corny. If I had paid more attention to the description, I wouldn’t have been so surprised that it took them so long to find one another. I would read another by this author. Would have loved to read a little more London in it though.

5 stars! One Day In December by Josie Silver was quite the page turner. I LOVED this book! The way this story was weaved made me feel like the characters were my friends and I was right along beside them on their journey. This emotionally charged story spans a decade and keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. If you believe in love at first sight, this book is a right up your alley!

This was a really cute story about strangers passing and making a connection but then losing touch with each other. Will they ever find each other again?

If "Me Before You" had a book baby with all 10 seasons of Friends, and then that book baby had a book baby with "Love Actually," it would be this binge-worthy read. Need I say more?

Cute little mix of Me Before You and One Day. Predictable but gets the job done, the romance sucks you in and you're left wanting more.

This book has a note from the editor in the beginning about how it was a story that made her smile for the first time all year. And as skeptical as I was when I picked it up (not because of the book itself but because what book can make a smile feel so rare?)...she was right. The tale follows Laurie, a young woman in London who connects from a window of a bus with a man and falls in love at first sight--and spends a year looking for him, only to meet him a year later as...you guessed it, her best friend's new boyfriend. The story follows ten years of their ups and downs and I didn't see many of the plot turns coming. The inside jokes, the connections and the beautiful story itself were heartmelting and I read the entire book in a sitting. I can say when I put it down at midnight, I was fully in love with Jack and Laurie and all the side characters, and I went to sleep so happy that books like this exist.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a story of real life and the characters are so real also. I would recommend this book to others. Very enjoyable.

A complicated love story that is captivating. I really enjoyed this story of missed connection, life, and friendship over the span of 10 years. It's a great book to cozy up to when the weather is cooler.

I received a free copy for an honest review from netgalley. I am sure there is an audience for this book but it is not me. I am a sucker for a romance and happily ever after but I don't like the way Jack and Laurie got there. The book sets up coming in and out of the lives of Laurie and Jack over a ten year period with small glimpses of what is occurring in there lives. This book just didn't work for me.

I really enjoyed this book. The story takes place over a 10 year period of time and delves into the relationships of a trio of friends; the highs and the lows. Are 2 of the main characters destined to be together? The reader gets to follow their journey from when they first see each other to how the story all ends. The characters were very likable. The conflicts were very real and I enjoyed seeing the entire story unfold. Definitely a cozy book that I would recommend for a read any time. It is definitely a great feel good holiday story or an enticing beach read!

Every now and then you get the gift of reading a book that touches your heart and makes you smile. One Day in December is that kind of book. Laurie is on a bus in London at Christmas time when one glimpse at a man changes her life. The next time she sees Jack, he is introduced to her as her best friend, Sarah’s new boyfriend. The story wends it’s way through a decade of lost chances and friendship and loss. I loved it, and appreciate getting to read this galley to spread the word.

When I started this book, it screamed "rom-com movie" to me. The plot moved slowly, but it the end it was an enjoyable and heart-warming love story.

One of my favorite genres is the light romantic comedy/drama, so I was excited to find One Day in December. Turns out that not only is this book in that category, it also refers frequently to other books and movies in the genre. I could see hints of Bridget Jones, One Day (with Anne Hathaway), Say Anything, and many others. I enjoyed reading a book by an author who knew her way around the genre quite well. Josie Silver is an assured and entertaining writer.

The story itself was engaging, and the characters were by and large charming (some more than others, of course). The relationships between the characters felt real. On the other hand, the plot seemed to take too long to play out. It made sense to me that it took a while for the tangles to unwind in a satisfying way, but I, like other reviewers, did think the dramatic tension went on for too many years.

One thing I don't like much about the romantic comedy genre is overly dramatic climactic scenes. (Did the main character in Must Love Dogs really need to jump into the water to swim after her love interest? Please. Just wait until he rows back to shore.) In my opinion, the climax of One Day in December avoided this pitfall and, as a result, was more satisfying than most endings in this genre. Sure, the climax of this novel does have a bit of melodrama, but it still somehow pulls off being charming and delightful.

All in all, One Day in December is an enjoyable read about characters you'd probably like to be friends with.

This was an enjoyable read! The characters were easy to like and empathize with; their dilemnas so taut and believable. There was only one thing I didnt like and that was the sex scene with Jack and Amanda. It was tacky; it didnt have to be described in detail and I was not expecting this to be a trashy romance book with an unnecessary scene to satisfy that audience. If that scene had been edited out altogether, this may pass for a modern classic dramedy, maybe even a movie. But the friendship between the characters, the simultaneous love and tension with all three of them was unforgettable.

Solid chick lit…doesn’t take itself too seriously! You’ll laugh, cry, and say “Oh! No!” Definitely a fun weekend read :c)

For anyone needing an uplifting, charming, feel-like-you’re-reading-a-Hallmark-movie, novel, One Day in December is IT! I’m a sucker for Christmas movies and books, so I jumped at the chance to read an ARC of a Christmas book—in May. Now, the colder temps in the winter accompanied by a fireplace MAY have made this book even more charming, but I still loved it. The book was dubbed a cross between Love Actually and When Harry Met Sally. I can see it, but I couldn’t stop thinking of Emily Giffin’s Something Borrowed, which I loved, while I read this. Only the basic premise was there, but it was enough to keep brining me back.

This book is a QUINTESSENTIAL comedy, and I’m talking the original definition of comedy (think Shakespeare’s comedies), where the characters are made out to be so much worse than they really are, and at the very end, the darkness that has plagued them for so long somehow dissipates and ALL IS WELL IN THE WORLD AGAIN (cue every Hallmark movie you’ve ever seen—and I’ve seen, and continue to watch, plenty!). There were times that I wasn’t sure who I was rooting for—it was because characters were thrown into impossible situations that turned into Catch-22s…either way someone LOSES! So, readers just had to keep plugging away, rooting for a lot of people in a lot of different ways.

The London setting had me hooked right away. I love England. I always have, and I always will. And I love the London vernacular. I prefer chips to fries☺ Yet, whatever your cultural preference, everyone needs a feel-good romance once-in-awhile. I highly recommend this one. It was charming. I hope it gets turned into a movie—I’d take a Hallmark one with a bit of editing☺

I LOVED this book!! I thought this was an unique storyline! Laurie sees a handsome guy while on a bus, they make intense eye contact, and the guy jumps up to get on the bus as the bus pulls away. Laurie spends the next year searching for this mystery guy. Lo and behold, he ends up being her best friend's new boyfriend Jack. Queue the feelings of longing, despair, guilt, etc. This book definitely didn't play out as I expected, which made me love it more! It sucked me in, and I felt that familiar sense of loss when you finish a fantastic book. I highly recommend this!

Sweet and heartbreaking story of love, second chances and hope. I am not a big fan or romance novels but this one is such a refreshing story. The characters are memorable with just the right amount of real-life in it. Will for sure recommend this to my fellow readers.
