This was not really my cup of tea. I thought I would be into it more than I was so I kept going just to see if my opinion would change. Unfortunately it did not.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about missed chances. Well, it’s more like a second, third, fourth, etc chance romance. I thought that the characters were likeable and easy to root for. The chemistry between Laurie and Jack is easy to see from their first encounter. Fate can be cruel, however, and they are kept apart for various reasons over the next ten years. I loved the message that true love can conquer all (that’s not really a spoiler) and that sometimes a person just needs to take a leap of faith to find true happiness – even if that leap is out of character. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel-good romance. Bonus if you like stories that highlight Christmas as well. Thank you to NetGalley, Crown Publishing, and the author for a digital ARC of this book.

A fantastic romance that follows two people who see each other from afar and fall in love in an instant and who become friends by happenstance when they are both in other relationships.

A great pick for book club holiday selections! Follows the two main characters over ten years as they move closer and further away from each other before finally ending up together.

This was exactly the right read, at exactly the right time.

While riding the bus one evening in December, Laurie sees a man and instantly knows he's the one. He looks up and sees her too. But as fate would have it, the bus drives away and he never got on.

Laurie tells her best friend Sarah about this and then spends the next year searching for the mystery man all over London. It isn't until almost a year later that she sees him... and he turns out to be Sarah's new boyfriend.

This is the story of what could be, what is, and what we wish would happen. It's about friendship and love and loss and being there for one another. It's honestly a really love read - the right amount of romance to not put you off (if romance isn't your thing), but mostly it's a story about people and how they come together ... and sometimes drift apart.

I really enjoyed it and am eagerly awaiting Josie Silver's new book The Two Lives of Lydia Bird. She was able to create likable characters that really felt like they could be my friends.

Recommended read. It's quick, easy and makes you feel happy. Perfect for anytime of the year.

Thank you Netgalley, Crown Publishing and Broadway Books for an advanced copy in return for an honest review.

Laurie is a likable protagonist, and Jack is mostly a likable guys. None of the characters are perfect, and there are mismatches along the way, but most of them are all likable, even the unsuitable suitors. This was a enjoyable summer read, would have been a great beach read if only I'd been on the beach, and I might pick it up again, but would at the very least recommend it to those who enjoy kinda straight up romances with an enjoyable cast of characters.

The characters were definitely the most likable aspects of this story and although I did occasionally want to smack one here or there, I mostly felt as if decisions and actions had reasonable consequences, and it didn't seem too unbelievable when things came around at the end. Nor was I super frustrated by damage being perpetrated to people along the way which at the half-way point I was afraid I might be.

One Day in December is one of those perfect fun reads. Sweet, sappy, and a little heartbreaking, I couldn’t put this one down. Laurie and Jack had an unforgettable momentary spark ignite between them one day in December. That missed opportunity left both of them looking for each other in the coming months. They finally meet when Laurie is introduced to her best friend Sarah’s new boyfriend...Jack. Ten years of missed opportunities follow, with Laurie and Jack never being in the right place and time to explore their relationship. The story is predictable, but satisfying nonetheless. A great pick, perfect for either the beach or a snowy day! Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

One Day in December is a beautifully written love story between Laurie & Jack. Spanning over 10 years, marriage, breakups, overseas trips, death, & falling outs, Jack & Laurie find themselves unable to tear away from each other, despite everything (including each other) that is trying to keep them apart. It reminded me a lot of Ross & Rachel, who are also a slow burn of a love story. I loved every moment of reading this book.

This is a really cute chick lit romance! For those who like Emily Giffin or Sophie Kinsella, I'd recommend this in a heartbeat. The main character locks eyes with a guy from a bus and immediately senses something special, but lets the moment slip away from her. She spends the next year hunting for this hunk, only to find him....dating her best friend. Of course, there's a certain tension to this romantic triangle; the author makes it fun and easy to read. A cotton candy novel that is satisfying in the end. :)

One of my new favorite books! This author has such a way with words the pages flew by in no time! I can’t wait to see the next work by this author! This was such a joy to read!

As far as meet cute goes, I can honestly say the receding blackened part of my heart likes “the love at first sight” kind a lot. No seriously, I love them.

Now, throw in missed opportunities, friends to lovers, a slow burn, love unrequited and I’m a goner. “One Day In December” was utterly satisfying for the romance reader that I am!

I know some will read the blurb and gently back away from it because I’ve myself let the whole “heartbreak, missed opportunities spanning 10 years” thing scare me off…for a little while. I mean, it sounded heavier than what my mood was set for (moody reader, always, here!) and I decided to wait a little bit before diving in.

Last night, as I was perusing the never ending list of books available on my kindle, I told myself to stop being ridiculous, I had loved every previous story this author crafted, why not this one?

I started the book around 11pm and finished it just before 6am. That’s how invested I became!

Starting “One Day In December” felt entirely comforting for me, given I’m a great fan of the author’s pen—no matter the genre, she easily lures me into her stories in just about a couple pages (Josie Silver also writes as Kat French/Kitty French).

It took even less this time for me to be taken with the heroine, Laurie’s voice being like listening to a good friend. The wit, the brit slang and the setting felt somehow cocooning, as—you’ll have to trust me about this one— the opening chapter will make you walk into Laurie’s shoes and see the scene through her eyes. Yes, I was expecting to see my breath fog in the night anytime now.

One night of December, through a misted-up bus window, Laurie finds herself ensnared with a man she knows is THE one. One look, a short lived moment suspended in time but the bus drives away and the magic is lost. But that fleeting moment felt so right, Laurie is persuaded fate is at play and with the help of her friend Sarah, will look relentlessly for “the bus boy”.

One chapter in and I was absolutely charmed and entirely set on chasing fairytales along with my new pal, Laurie. She was such a great character, friendly, funny and real.
I’m not a bitch though, or maybe ‘m just a quiet one inside my own head. Isn’t everyone?

Given the nature of the premise, I was certainly dreading the love triangle aspect the blurb hinted at… except it never washed over for some reason.

I want to stress over how given the intricately awkward situation, the author never gave into nastiness, horrible unnecessary drama or worse, rush things out to tie loose ends. The characters she crafted are solid in that way, flaws and all they never acted incongruously.

As much as I wanted Laurie to have her fairytale come true and find her “bus boy”, I wanted her friendship with Sarah to stay unburdened and safe. Neither of the characters ever displayed signs of inconsistency and this is where I must give my extra cookies to Josie Silver, she made me so invested in the story I genuinely cared for all of them. I cared about Sarah and Jack. I cared for Laurie and Oscar. I cared so much for Laurie and Sarah. (I’ll admit I cared a whole lot… less for Jack and Amanda and the other whatshername.) None of the relationships as the years passed felt like mere plot devices, I wanted to see them all happy and the author gave her characters necessary time to grow and relationships bonds to unfold. I loved this about this book, yes it was very much a romance but the testing friendship bonds part of it was an almost greater appeal to me.

And although a tiny part of me was of course rooting for the fated couple, I just didn’t want the book to end, ever. Isn’t that the best feeling? I was that lost in the story I didn’t feel the hours pass at night.

Of course there were some tensions here and there and I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting the emotional angst thrown at me at times, but all of it felt so good, the tiny cracks and fractures Laurie, Jack, Sarah or even Oscar would let us glimpse at meant somehow… the fairytale wasn’t over just yet. That maybe it was just waiting for the right time to finally be.

And when finally, after years of love, friendship, humor, heartbreak, loss, the stars finally ALL align—without ever feeling contrived— and make all that hoarded yearning set free… I can’t even with the feelings and sense of righteousness!!!

I know, I often declare “ALL THE FEELS” about the books I adore, but really—ALL THE FEELS—were delivered in the end and it felt just so damned good.

Not even the over the top cliché but heart-melting scene at the end could dampen my mood. NO. This book was one wonderful treat that will do nicely if you’re looking for something to curl up to come the winter nights. Pure delight.
If anyone asks me I’ve ever fallen in love at first sight, I shall say yes, for one glorious minutes on 21 December 2008.

To be honest, I actually didn't have high hopes for this book.  I had started it a few months ago and wasn't completely drawn in.  It seemed a bit like the author was trying to write the new Bridge Jones' Diary (which is a book and movie series that I absolutely love) so I put it down.  Then a friend who's book taste I admire mentioned that she had really enjoyed it so I thought to give it another try only this time, I opted for the audio version.  Are you ready? … I LOVED IT!!

I don't know if it was the narrators (there are two) or if I was just in a different mindset but I thoroughly enjoyed One Day in December. It's light-ish read. A romantic comedy, for sure. A little predictable, even. But oh so wonderful. It's an escape into the lives of two truly human characters. Characters who have flaws and hopes and ups and downs, just like we do. As a romantic comedy, it does have a bit of a predictable ending but I found that the journey to the ending was enjoyable that I didn't mind.

I'm not sure what the plans are for this book other than having been chosen by Reese Witherspoon for her book club but my guess is that we will see it on the big screen (or perhaps as a limited series) in the future. If this happens, I will definitely be in line to buy my ticket.

Trust me, if you are looking for something light and fun…a book to escape into, then this is your book!

I chose this novel because so many people wanted to read to but I found that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked.

I love love LOVED this book. A sappy holiday romance with heart. I cried ALL THE TEARS! I can't wait to read more books from Josie Silver.

One Day in December has SO many things going for it: a Christmas-themed holiday meet-cute, a friends-to-lovers arc, and that super-adorable cover art (which I know isn't that important, but still, it's super adorable). Instead, Josie Silver's novel feels like fanfiction of something else, where we KNOW that a certain couple is endgame, but we have to suffer through all of this pointless bullshit before they get their happy ending. (Especially when she puts our OTP in the freaking summary. If I know where the story is going - that basically, Silver's going to purposefully put her characters into pointlessly dramatic situations - the entire story becomes drama for drama's sake. Stupid, pointless drama.)

I found myself reading in binges while on vacation, one half of me hoping the novel would get better and then the other immediately regretting it. Like, I would actually roll my eyes and yell at my iPad. Will this book get better? I hope it gets better. But do I hope it gets better? Why do I hope it gets better? Ugh this book is such trash! I never really bought the initial premise of the meet-cute and so always kind of felt like there was no real motivation to want Jack and Laurie to get together. (And their actions never convinced me, either.) Then Silver finally gives them their Moment and it's like, meh, I'm more happy that this book is finally over.

On top of all that, Silver uses dual narration as a crutch, which is one of my absolute biggest fictional pet peeves. When an author chooses to use dual narration, there better be a good fricking reason for it. If the only way to know which character I'm following is by the name that's written at the start of the chapter, an author has failed. Most of the POV switches happened at pivotal scenes, too, when knowing how Jack felt about Laurie would "tug at our heartstrings". No! It annoyed me! Who the f*ck cares what Jack thinks!

So, I don't know... should you read this book? Maybe. A lot of other reviews are giving it high marks - but maybe those same people think Andrew Lincoln's character in Love Actually was romantic. (I didn't.) There are so many good holiday-themed romance novels out there; you owe it to yourself to find one.

his was a book that kept me on my toes. Though this is billed for fans of Notting Hill, it reminded me more of Serendipity. Silver’s book is about star-crossed lovers with horrible timing and it tugs the readers along through the decades until its very RomCom resolution.

Well-written, charming, and just a cozy winter book to kick off my reading year. If you don’t like love triangle plots, this isn’t the story for you. But I loved almost everything about this novel!

I'm certain I can't be the only one who reads wintry reads just as spring is sliding into summer, right? Even though I'm longing for lounging in and around the pool, I cozied up to One Day in December for one last hurrah with winter and I'm glad I did. It gave me the angsty read I was craving. The search for love, the enduring friendships, the kinda sorta love triangle, the unrequited love, the undercurrent of longing and the roller coaster of life with these characters that spanned years and years was just what I needed to escape into this week. Added bonus? It's set in England!

If you're looking for a romance that going to make you work for that HEA, this one is for you.

I LOVED this book! I was constantly going back and forth between being upset about the possibility of potential cheating, but I adored how the story turned out. I can't wait to read more from Silver!

I enjoyed this book. It was a nice light read but I did find the story a little predictable. It was also very British and made we want to look up some of the euphemisms and phrases.
