This book totally stole my heart - I loved everything about it. I loved the slight craziness of the scenario, the complexity and flawed nature of the characters, the tension, the love, the twists. It was all amazing.

I blew through this one in literally one afternoon because I NEEDED to know what happened. It was the perfect mix of funny, heartbreaking and heartwarming and I wish it never had to end.

A great book club pick!

As Laurie is heading home from her dead-end job during the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, she locks eyes with a boy from the bus window. She spends the next year trying to find this boy that has made her believe in love at first sight. Problems arise when she indeed finds him-- when her roommate brings home her lovely new boyfriend. Yes, it's bus buy in the flesh. Laurie spends years keeping the secret from her best friend and trying to get over those feelings she felt for him. The book spans several years and finds our main character looking for herself in different parts of the world, different jobs, and new relationships.

This one is a tear-jerker and a charming unrequited (maybe) love story. I was in love with Laurie and her quirkiness, the way that life happens and our characters must roll with it, and I am a fan of these English stories in general (think a more dramatic Jill Mansell).

I recommend this for lovers of romance, British fiction, and book club readers.

This book deserves every one of the stars. I listened to it (as well as read it) and it was magic. I feel as though something is missing in my life now that it is over. I could not recommend this story more.

I absolutely adored this book. It was a great love story as well as a lovely story about friendship. I took this with me on a 16 hour plane ride and it made the time fly by. Loved it.

Loved this, So glad to see that it was chosen for Reese Witherspoon's book club. Rainy cold London sounded so appealing.

One Day in December Laurie is taking the bus home from work. She is exhausted and sick and just wants to hole up in her flat with her best friend. But she looks up from her seat on the crowded bus to see a guy sitting at the bus stop. He is immersed in his book, but when he glances up and makes eye contact with Laurie she is convinced that he is the love of her life. Laurie spends the next year searching every bus stop, every restaurant, every crowd, looking for the man who captured her heart with just a glance. Until one night he walks into her flat - as her best friend's boyfriend. Laurie is devastated but is not willing to cross a line. Jack O'Mara will never be hers. As the days go by Laurie gets to know Jack, as Sarah's boyfriend, and longs for what might have been. She decides leaving will be the best thing and takes off to Thailand. Where she meets Oscar and while he is not Jack, he is close to perfect for her. On the day that Laurie finally accepts Oscar's proposal, Sarah and Jack break up. Will Laurie stay with Oscar or take a chance on Jack? And what will it do to her friendship with Sarah when she finds out that Jack was "the" guy?

One Day in December was absolutely delightful. I could envision this hitting the big screen in the very near future. I loved Sarah and Laurie's friendship. It was true and everlasting. The author puts them in several different situations that are familiar to all best friends. My favorite though was on Laurie's birthday, when Sarah arranged for them to go to an event that was Grease themed. It was perfect in every way, including the Ferris wheel scene. I longed for Laurie to find happiness. Her longing for Jack was so heartbreaking because she was never going to tell Jack or really act on it. Predictably so Jack and Sarah's relationship imploded. And it was a long time coming, which was a little bit frustrating. Their relationship was very obviously no longer good, but they continued making each other miserable. I wanted to shake them both and say "Just end it!!". One Day In December is a Christmas book, there is only one way Christmas books end, but it is the way they get there that keeps a reader hooked.

Bottom Line - One Day in December was a funny, charming, delightful Christmas story. I only hope that it gets a full feature film instead of just a Hallmark movie. It would be worth the price of admission.

Very likeable characters, cute plot following the protagonists over several years. The ending was quite obvious, nevertheless worth the read.
4.5/5 stars

One day in December, Laurie sees a boy while she is on the bus, and they lock eyes. The connection is instantaneous and for Laurie, it is love at first sight. Both are too stunned by the quick connection to get on/off the bus, and they don't see each other again... until that boy shows up at a Christmas party a year later on the arm of Laurie's best friend. The story goes on to follow Laurie, the boy Jack, and her best friend Sarah as they navigate through their twenties, dealing with the ups and downs of life.
I loved this book!

I really enjoyed this book! It had an unexpected ending that was really nice. The characters were well developed and I felt like I actually knew them.

Very sweet book! Characters frusturated me a bit at times, but still an overall quick and sweet read. This was a Resse bookclub pick, which was surprising to me. For me, it was a bit lacking in terms of past reads she has chosen for her book club, so that could upset some who pick it up expecting it to be another winner like Where The Crawdads Sing. But for those who really love a nice time span love story, this will be a nice afternoon read. Thank you very much to netgalley and the publisher for my free copy in exchange for a review!

Do you believe in love at first sight? Laurie is sure she’s just experienced this as she’s on the bus and as she looks out of the window locks eyes with a cute guy. Time seems to stand still but before they can both react the bus continues on its route and she’s left thinking about the mystery man.

Every day and week when she’s out she is seeking his face in the crowd. Her best friend and roommate, Sarah, even joins in on the quest to find the mystery man but no luck. One year later though she meets him finally. Jack is just as wonderful in person as she expected him to be but there’s a big catch, he’s just been introduced as her Sarah’s boyfriend.

She won’t act on any feelings and she certainly won’t tell Sarah. Besides it seems like Jack doesn’t seem to remember her or recognize her from that day at the bus stop. It’s just that it’s going to be so hard to put aside her feelings for him when her best friend is constantly getting them all three together.

Years pass, there are marriages, moves and new jobs but through it all, Jack is the constant in Laurie’s life. Does she move on with her life or does she keep thinking of what if?

I really enjoyed this book even though I thought all the misunderstandings and complications could have been avoided if Laurie had just been upfront with her best friend but then there would have been no book right? I think what made this so readable was that it reminded me of several rom coms which I’ve loved and I could totally see this being turned into a movie. Looking forward to the next Josie Silver book.

Thank you for the review copy, NetGalley and Broadway Books. I didn't love this one the way everyone else seems to have loved it. I can see why it's been compared to the movie Love, Actually. I love the movie, and that's why I wanted to read this book. But, I just didn't love the characters. Jack really rubbed me the wrong way; I didn't find him likable. And, I didn't like that Laurie lied to Sarah for all of those years. I was really excited for this book, but it was a bit a let down for me.

Even before One Day in December was chosen as Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club's book of the month for December, it seemed like everyone was reading it. I saw it everywhere and the hype kept building and building. By the time I finally got around to reading it, the Hype Monster had me wary. Would it really be as good as everyone said? Would I connect with it the way so many others seemed to? Let me just say this: you know how at the end of a year, you’re reflective, you’re looking forward to the year ahead, and you’re possibly planning some big changes? There’s a feeling of hope and anticipation and you’re excited about new things, change, and all the possibilities of a new year? Well, that’s what One Day in December felt like for me, making it the absolute best book to end 2018 with.

Taking place over the span of ten years, this story takes its time unfolding. It’s truly a love story in every sense of the word, and it explores romantic relationships, friendships, and family relationships. It was a realistic portrayal of the highs and lows of life, and I think what I loved most about it was how honest it was. It didn’t shy away from how messy and complicated life and love and friendship can be, or the fact life tends to be far from straightforward or easy.

Throughout the course of the book, I laughed, I cringed, I held my breath, I alternately wanted to scream at the characters and hug them, and I cried. Oh boy, did I cry. I was sobbing by the end, and I can’t remember the last time a book made me feel that way. It was funny and touching and equally heartbreaking and heartwarming, and I loved it so, so much.

I’ll admit, there was a point while I was reading where I looked down at my Kindle and groaned when I realized I was only halfway through the book and still had over four hours left. That’s often the drawback of books like this, that deal with little pockets of life - it's necessary for them to be lengthy to fit everything in, but there's usually a point where it begins to drag. Luckily the story picked back up and I read the last half quite quickly. And even when it dragged, I was committed to seeing it through because I was so invested in the characters.

One Day in December is a book I won’t soon forget. Laurie, Sarah, and Jack have a piece of my heart now. I’m so glad this book lived up to the hype, and I know it’ll be one I recommend time and time again.

Everything you want from a rom-com, with none of the sap. Beautiful, movie worthy, happy tears ending. Loved it!

Most reviews said this novel was predictable, but this novel was SO much more than I expected. I felt like I was living this book alongside my best friend, all the time bonding over our love of Bridget Jones and a glass of great wine.
A thoroughly enjoyable read that I would recommend to those who need a little Christmas magic any time of year. Love!

One Day in December made it onto my 2018 favorites list at Chick Lit Central. It was such a sweet story from start to finish. While it gave off a similar feel to Love, Rosie, there were different circumstances throughout. Laurie was in an interesting predicament and I enjoyed seeing how it played out over the years, and if she and Jack would ever get together.

There were some great heart-stopping moments throughout the novel and I found it hard not to smile while I was reading it. I thought the idea of a Grease festival would be a lot of fun and hope that something like it can be created in the US, perhaps as a traveling event.

I loved everything about this novel and think it would make the perfect romantic comedy film. Here's who I would cast...
Laurie: Lucy Hale
Jack: Armie Hammer
Sarah: Jane Levy
Oscar: Tom Bateman
Amanda: Rebecca Rittenhouse
Luke: Jai Courtney

Laurie is jaded and certain love at first sight is only for the movies. Then, she sees a stranger through her bus window and spends the next year pining for the man from her missed connection. Unfortunately for Laurie, once she is finally introduced to the same man, Jack, he turns out to be her best friend Sarah's new beau.

I started this book expecting a light, fluffy book about star crossed lovers. Instead, this book delves into a far more complex love story, and also examines friendship, marriage and the choices we make to shape our futures.

Thank you to Broadway Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.

First, I don't believe in love at first sight. Love just doesn't happen like that.

That being said, I enjoyed One Day in December. I was rooting for all three characters throughout the book, and I enjoyed getting to know them. It was a long road for all of them - a lot happens in ten years - and I found myself getting impatient to find out what happened in the end. I did like the ending, by the way, but I wanted to see more. Honestly, I hope that there is a sequel someday. Overall, it was a good story that was perfect to read in winter, just as I'd hoped.

However, I didn't like the writing style. It was in first person, and it switched between Laurie and Jack, which was fine, except they switched inconsistently. It seemed like the author didn't know how to write what she wanted to say, and to make it easier, she switched to Jack's perspective whenever she felt like it. Hopefully, a stronger voice will come with time. In spite of that complaint, I did enjoy One Day in December, and I look forward to more books by Josie Silver.
