This was my first read from this author and I really loved their writing style. Their words flowed throughout the book and really encaptured me into the storyline of this story. I found the storyline to be very enjoyable with characters I could not get enough off.

Having allied themselves with the Band of Bastards, the Brotherhood is committed now more than ever to eradicating the Lessening Society. Recovering from their most recent battle against the last of the lessers, the Brotherhood comes to realize that the fight against their enemies is far from over.
Throe, Xcor’s former second in command, is using an ancient tome to summon a new army engineered by a force more dangerous and evil than the Omega.
And now the brothers of the Black Dagger Brotherhood will be tested both at home and on the battlefield.

This is book number 16 in the black dagger brotherhood and I have to say I still am addicted to this series as I was with book 1. This book focuses on Assail and Sola as well as Vishous and Jane (as well as the rest of the gang). I really don't want to say to much due to it being book 16 and if I say anything it with be full of spoilers so all I will say is this book is full of action and it explores real life issues in a relationship (even though vampires, a ghost and an assassin lol).

I loved this book so much and was really worried due to the fact the book before this The Chosen wasn't my favourite in the series. The world and the characters are so well done and you can't help but love each character you meet, well except the lessers. I loved reading more about V and Jane and I have to say I was so worried there for a while. Getting to know Sola and Assail was great too but I felt something lacking with their story line but I still can't pin point what was missing.

I ended up giving this book 4.5 stars and I am excited to keep reading this series. It is one series I never want to end.

3 1/2 Star Review.....

While I'm constantly saying, I won't read any more of this series, I find myself drawn back time and time again. This was an acceptable story, but once again there was so many back stories, you could easily get lost.

An interesting premise, introducing a new threat to the Brothers world, but I suppose the author needs to maintain the reader interest somehow. For me personally, I think I'm just about done with the BDB, as much as I loved them in the early books.

Another fantastic Black Dagger Brotherhood book! I am glad they went back to Assail & Sola, I really wanted to hear how their story ended after it being left so unfinished!

“Well, hello, beautiful … You are a sight for sore eyes.”

3.5 stars

After all this time, I still get stupidly exited over a BDB release, and when I learned that this book was finally going to give us Assail and Sola’s story – with a secondary storyline for Vishous and Jane, I couldn’t not wait to get my hands on it!

V is one of my fave of the brothers, and with us getting a glimpse of he and Jane having some problems in the last book, I was a bit scared going into this one, but so damn thrilled to be back with this couple. And what I really liked about their story in this book was that it was so real. They are having issues, and though their lives are far from normal, they are dealing with the sort of things that every couple has to deal with. It was real, but OMG, my boy almost broke my heart! I’m not sure I’m 100% ok with how it all played out, but their struggle was beautifully told, and I loved how the two of them turned things around, opened up to each other and found their groove again.

Assail and Sola’s story has been building in the later books of the series. They’ve both taken a bit of a back seat more recently, but it’s finally their time! Assail has hit rock bottom. He’s literally on death’s door until his cousins track down his lost love with the hope that she can drag him back from the brink. And OMG, the feels! The big moment is spine-tingling, and watching these two finally find their time was just gorgeous. But Sola knows nothing of Assail’s world, and they have a long way to go to find their HEA. I would have liked a bit more time with them rather than their story feeling like a sub-plot, and once they were together I didn’t really feel it like I wanted to, but there were some swoony moments, with a wonderful family tie-in with Sola’s grandmother and Assail’s cousins adding a lot to their story, and I enjoyed watching it happen for them.

These two stories would have been enough to carry the book for me, but we also get the story of Vitoria Benloise. Honestly, it bored me, I wasn’t interested, and we absolutely could have done without it. Though it does provide a nice opportunity for some badassery.

But there is a new threat emerging. A mysterious evil with its sights firmly set on the species, the Brotherhood, and in particular the King. It’s a new direction for the series and I’m keen to see where Ward takes it.

So yeah, I didn’t love it as much as I hoped, but I did like it, and the seeds are planted for the next book. J.R. Ward has announced that The Saviour will feature Muhrder, with a side-story for Lassiter, and I remain excited for what is coming next.

3.5 stars.

V is the man. I know there are a lot of BDB readers who aren't a fan of V and Jane, but I can't help it, i just adore them and glad there was plenty of them in this story.

JR Ward never disappoints, and I wait impatiently every year for a new Brotherhood book.

I was hooked right from the start, and now I am left waiting again.

Can't wait to see what Ms Ward brings use next.
