I'm all for learning the "true history" behind famous people, objects, and stories. And this was a fascinating journey, from Canadian wilderness to British zoo. That being said, I didn't exactly love this book. I wasn't a fan of the anthropomorphism. I wanted to know what happened to the bear, not how the author thinks she felt.

I received this copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Winnie`s Great War is the true story of Winnie the bear, from her birth in the forest to the day she met Christopher Robin. It is expertly told and the difficult-to-understand aspects of war are explained in the present day by a parent to child dialog.
A quick word of warning. As a child, moments of suspense (such as "Is this character going to get hurt in this situation?") greatly upset me. This book had quite a few such situations (and sometimes the answer was "yes") and as I child, I would have never made it to the end of this book. This is something to keep in mind with those patrons who have similar reactions.

This story is for everyone who has every loved Winnie the Pooh. The story follows Winnie (or Winnipeg, her full name) from her first venture our of her den, through her mother's death, and on to being bought by Harry during the war. I enjoyed the diary excerpts throughout the story.
