First off I have to say I Loved “Built to Last” so much that I just couldn’t put it down once I started it. I went into reading this book with mixed feelings. I have read every one of Julie Ann Walker’s Black Knights Inc. series of books and loved them. I knew this was the last of this series and was sad to see the end of all my favorite characters. Would the author be able to do justice to the series? Well, I have to say that I think this is the best book of the series other than maybe the first book. From page one of the prelude to the end, it was filled with angst, true profound love, and just hang on to your seat action. You will not be able to put this book down. All my favorite characters showed up and everything came to a wonderful finish. I am a happy reader of the BKI series and would give it a lot more stars than is allowed. Thank you Julie Ann Walker.

Built to Last is the twelfth and conclusion to one of my favourite romantic suspense series, Black Knights Inc.

Built to Last is a second chance romance with all the action, intrigue, mystery, suspense and heat I've come to expect when reading Ms Walker's work.

Angel is a character who has remained elusive in the previous titles and little information had been revealed regarding his past or persona. I was incredibly eager to discover more of his story and Built to Last did not disappoint. He is dangerous, lethal and inventive and hot.

Sonya is smart, capable, and adventurous. This pair share a past and she is now working for the wrong side of the law with evil mastermind Spider.

Sonya and Angel's story is one of forgiveness, honesty, love and sacrifice.

I look forward to seeing what Ms Walker comes up with next particularly after the enticing epilogue in this title.

I wanted to not like this book since it is the last in this series...but I just couldn’t do it! Darn Ms. Walker for writing such amazing characters and building such a great world with Black Knights Inc. Angel has been the elusive member of the team. He has popped up here and there throughout the series, but for the most part he has been as much a ghost as his character is said to be. He is a great character...brutal, driven, focused...but he is also broken. Enter Sonya. She is a warrior in her own right and for the most part I really love her. She had a few moments where I was on the fence, but overall, she is a strong character who holds her own well against the strength that is Angel. Their history plays out in flashbacks and, while beautiful, it is also heartbreaking. Their obvious love for each other shines through, but a sense of duty won the day and these two thought they were forever lost to each other. Obviously, being a romance book, Angel and Sonya’s story end with a happily ever after...but this is also the closing of the series...and it was nice to touch base with some of the BKI crew throughout the book. My biggest issue with this book was how the characters futures where presented...I appreciate knowing where these men and women are supposedly going as the series ends, but it didn’t feel like an organic extension of the story so much as a bullet list to get through to make sure everyone was covered. Still, with that being my only real beef, I couldn’t give less than the 5 stars it deserves! Bye BKI...I’ll come back to visit soon!

Julie Ann Walker wraps up her Black Knight Inc. series with an exciting conclusion in Built to Last and ends it on a high note. Angel Agassi planted himself with the notorious crime boss Spider in order to finally take him down. What he confronts is the love of his life, Sonya Butler, who is now working for him as his right-hand woman. He’s not sure what happened to self-assured and confident Interpol agent he wants knew, but he’s gone to great length to not be the man she once knew 10 years ago. Mark Rissa, Mossad agent, gave up that identity for a bigger cause and sees exactly what he gave up for that cause. Tension is tight between Sonya and Angel as they work to get along and wonder what the other is truly up to now that they are ‘working’ for Spider. The author has raised the bar in this story as the suspense crescendos right up until the end, with all the Black Knights involved in taking down their nemesis. An added bonus to this story is the nice conclusion for Rusty and Ace. Can this book get any hotter? Built to Last is a high-flying adventure with a few twists and turns. This has been a thrilling ride reading this series and Built to Last gives a glimpse of the past couples and a look to the future. I can’t wait to see what she has for us next.

There are many secrets, deceptions, twists and turns that author Julie Ann Walker is very good at, as she carefully leads her readers to where she wants them. The characters in this series are always intriguing, and Angel and Sonya are no exception.

If you want edgy, fast-paced action, intrigue, suspense, a steamy romance, bad guys getting their just desserts and a team of amazing people that you will love, then get your hands on BUILT TO LAST.

4.25 stars-- BUILT TO LAST is the twelfth and final instalment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult BLACK KNIGHTS INC romantic suspense /military, action series focusing on an elite group of ex Navy SEALS, FBI, CIA and military heroes headquartered and fronted by a custom motorcycle shop in Chicago known as Black Knights Inc. This is assassin Jamin ‘Angel’ Agassi, and thirty-two year old Interpol agent Sonya Butler’s story line. BUILT TO LAST can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in orders, especially the last few instalments, as there is an ongoing premise focusing on a terrorist known as ‘The Spider’.

Told from several third person points of view including Angel and Sonya BUILT TO LAST follows the rekindling romance between Interpol agent Sonya Butler and assassin Jamin ‘Angel’ Agassi, a man who is familiar to our heroine yet not. Ten years earlier, Sonya Butler saw her lover murdered trying to take down a bomber, and in the ensuing time has continued to grieve and never moved on. Fast forward to present day wherein Sonya will come face to face with a man, although unrecognizable, reminds our heroine of the love she has lost. Enter Jamin ‘Angel’ Agassi, Sonya’s former lover, and the man that will once again, destroy her heart. What ensues is the (re)building relationship between Angel and Sonya, as our couple unknowingly work together to stop the man they have come to know as ‘The Spider’.

Angel is an assassin, known as the Prince of Shadows, an assassin feared by all. Ten years under cover with an assumed identity finds Angel struggling to keep his secret from the woman he loves. Two weeks in her presence, and Angel battles both his attraction to, and the questionable circumstances under which, our heroine now finds herself working for the terrorist known as The Spider. Not only does Angel have secrets to hide but Sonya’s secrets are soon to be revealed.

Throughout the last few instalments there has been a building relationship between Colby ‘Ace’ Ventura and Rusty Parker. Their ongoing attraction to one another is stifled by Rusty’s inability to come out of the proverbial closet, a closet hindered by his family’s deep –rooted religious beliefs. A life and death situation opens his heart such that Rusty must come clean to the people he loves.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line couples-some by cameo, updates or offhand mention. The author ‘introduces’ six new warriors who have been assigned to the BKI team-here’s hoping for a new spin-off.

BUILT TO LAST is a story of betrayal and vengeance; family and forgiveness; love and a happily ever after. The premise is intriguing, action packed and entertaining; the romance is passionate and fated; the characters are dynamic and charismatic. Julie Ann Walker’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC is an edgy, sassy and intelligent series with lovable heroes, and brilliant heroines.

Built to Last by Julie Ann Walker is the final book in the Black Knights Inc series. I found it exciting and emotional and a fitting conclusion to the series. The men of Black Knight first came on my radar when I read Fuel for Fire. However, of all the men highlighted the one who piqued my interest was Angel aka the Prince of Shadows. From the moment he was introduced I wanted know his story. I had so many questions regarding his past. A former Mossad agent. Angel is a man of mystery who sported many identities and one whose name instilled fear in the hearts of many. This installment provided me with all I need to know and more.

In the last two books, I watched as the team tries to capture Spider, a criminal mastermind who has proven to be a thorn. They got their chance when Angel infiltrated his organisation and commenced working for him. While there, he came face to face with the woman who owned his heart.

Sonya Butler an Interpol agent and Spider’s current victim of blackmail. It would appear he had incriminating evidence, which could land her in prison for the rest of her life. As such, she was forced to work for him to avoid a prison sentence. Angel believed her to be a traitor, but he would soon learn that not everything should be taken at face value.

The interaction between Angel and Sonya made for interesting reading. Sonya had no idea that Angel was the same man who she fell in love with ten years ago and who she thought was dead. Although she was still mourning the loss of her lover, she found herself drawn to Angel like a moth to flame. There is something about Angel that reminded her of the love she lost. Keeping up the facade proved tricky for Angel as he would find himself reverting to habits with which Sonya was familiar. I waited with bated breath for the moment she would figure out Angel’s identity.

I understood why he needed to keep his identity secret all these years. However, I could not accept his decision to keep it from Sonya indefinitely. His actions reeked of cowardice and selfishness. This installment showed that behind the tough and fearless facade lay a man who struggled with real human emotions.

Spider made my skin crawl. He is the personification of evil and a misogynist to the bone. The reason for his vendetta with the Black Knights came to light. Elusive and arrogant, but self-importance would prove to be his downfall.

The story which began on an interesting note, moved between the past and the present. Angel’s past came to light, and we gained insight into how he became to be the person he is today. I got a first-hand look into how Angel and Sonya’s’ developed ten years ago. This enabled me to understand their current emotional state. Watching them trying to navigate the secrets, pain of the past, and present took me on an emotional journey I never expected.

Besides the main romance, built on the love story between two members of the BKI that had been brewing from the previous installment. This romance, although not one I would normally read, was sweet and strangely, it put a smile on my face.

Intense and exciting action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat whenever they occurred. I found myself re-reading these scenes, as I could not get enough of them.

Conclusion and Recommendation
Built to Last offers a second chance romance sprinkled with action and suspense, which kept me engaged from start to finish. It is a story about love, forgiveness and second chances. Perfect for fans of romantic suspense.

This final book in the Black Knights Inc. story was a very satisfying one. Angel and Sonya had a history, but as they were getting close, only Angel knew about the history. I've wondered about the mysterious Angel since he became a part of BKI because his story was never shared. Now that I know it, I have to say it was worth waiting for. This story wrapped up all of the story lines from previous books and gave each member of the team their happily ever after. I'm sad to see the end of this series, but I can't wait for more from Ms. Walker.

Phew--what a ride the final book in the Black Knights Inc. series takes us on!

We finally get to know the mysterious Angel better, and the plot with bad guy extraordinaire Spider comes to a head. Angel's story is a second chance romance--Sonya's the woman he fell in love with before his extensive plastic surgery, before his vocal cords were altered, before he changed his identity--and the side he was on (or did he?)--multiple times. I wasn't a huge fan of the way he was determined for way too long that he'd never let Sonya know who he really was--honestly, dude, that's never a good idea, everyone knows that; plus it will never, ever work, geesh--though I guess I understand why he did it.

Actually, no. Not the right choice, Angel. You had So. Many. Chances. Grrrr. Anyway...

(On the whooo hooo! side of things, the Ace/Rusty storyline finally gets resolved too--yay! :) )

If you've read all the rest of the books in the series, there's no way you're going to want to miss this one. Even if every single series character doesn't show their face here, there is a wrap up at the end that lets readers know what their future plans are going to be. If you're new to the series, though, I really don't recommend starting here--at the very least, you'll want to read the last few that come before this one first. A standalone this book isn't--but a non-stop adrenaline ride for at least 80% of the book, it is. :)

This is the twelfth and I suspect final book in the series (even if I wish it weren’t true!). You most definitely should read them all and read then in order. However, I would suggest that you have some light reading in between as these are high speed, full on books which take all your energy and adrenaline. The plot flowing through all the books has been brilliant and the romances have been SUPER hot each and every time. I think these would make an amazing set of films.

In this book Angel gets his happily ever after – which is somewhat unexpected, but absolutely the most romantic, sad, moving, intense story – and actually, so do Ace and Rusty... finally.

As we learn about his background and find the only woman he ever loved is mixed up with “Spider,” it is all a bit of a shock, but obviously the layers are hidden and interwoven so who really knows what’s what! Sonya is certain that she’s met someone special, but in the completely wrong setting. The fact that she is reminded constantly of Mark, her first love, is not helping.

As we see everything unravel, we can only be patient as the strands of the story reform and BKI brings order to chaos. Such a wonderful ending to a really excellent series. Most definitely on my reread list, but I reckon even the second time around I will be worrying about them all!

Since I had only found this series with the last book and loved it, I knew I wanted to read this one too.

Sonya Butler is trapped with the world's worst criminal mastermind and she can't believe she is stuck there. But he has evidence against her that could ruin her for good. So, she has to bite her tongue and wait until she gets free. When Spider, the criminal, has Jamin “Angel” Agassi sitting at his desk and wanting him to steal for him, Sonya can't believe her eyes when she sees a picture of who he used to look like. Could it be possible he was, or just a carbon copy of the man she loved 10 years ago?

Jamin “Angel” Agassi works with the Black Knights Inc. and now he is undercover to help capture Spider. The man responsible for a lot of bad things happening on the dark web. Angel has let himself get captured to infiltrate Spider’s compound and can't believe his eyes when he sees Sonya standing beside Spider. She can't work for him because when he knew her 10 years ago, that wasn't the Sonya he knew.

Can Angel rescue Sonya and capture Spider? Will Sonya find out who Angel really is? Can Angel and Sonya move from the hurt feelings and past to have a future? Will they both survive Spider when he finds out who they really are?

I love a good romantic suspense and this series has all the feels and suspense to make it a great story. I have to make time to read the rest of the series soon. If you are looking for a great romantic suspense, I recommend this one but would suggest starting from the beginning. I know I have missed so much just reading the last two. So grab them and enjoy!

Built to Last is the final instalment of the Black Knights Inc and it gives us Angel’s story. It is a pretty unique second chance love story among the usual action, danger, and catching bad guys we’ve come to know and love with this series.

Angel and Sonya cross paths for the first time in 10 years when Angel is “captured” by the criminal mastermind known as the Spider. Angel himself is a pretty cool, calm, and collected guy, even if he is a little scary. When I learned what he has given up for the greater good and to save the world, I wanted nothing more than for him to have his happy ending with Sonya, who we learn is a good woman.

We also get a second romance between Ace and Rusty, who are dancing around each other. The two men provide us a good dose of verbal sparring as we wait for them to get their act together.

I loved the two romances combined with the action, which is great too. I loved watching Angel, Sonya, Ace, Rusty, and the Black Knights Inc team bring down the biggest of the big bad guys. I had fun with the danger and life or death situations and seeing the good guys win in a way you only can when such situations are fictional.

But I think my favourite thing about Built to Last is we get to learn ‘where to next’ for each of the Black Knights Inc couples we’ve met over the years and I thought the finale was perfect. It has been a pleasure reading this series and I’m going to miss these guys and gals.

Lee’Anne – ☆☆☆☆
I just love these Black Knights Inc. boys! Built to Last might have been my favorite of the series so far just because it’s action packed from page one to the final page and I loved it!

Angel is a Black Knights Inc. operative gone undercover to capture Spider, a man who has been haunting his team for a long time. Angel was an operative in his “previous life” who had extensive facial reconstruction surgery to take on a new identity – as Angel. This mission is hitting especially close to home for him because his ex from that previous life seems to be Spider’s girl Friday. Spider is blackmailing Sonya into working for him and she’s reluctant and sassy every step of the way. She also has an odd feeling she’s met Angel before – he reminds her so much her ex, who she watched die…

I really loved that this book literally never has a dull moment, one scene to the next – I couldn’t put it down. As much as I loved Angel and Sonya, because they’re both amazing and so perfect for one another, I think my favorite part of this book was Rusty and Ace’s story – this book was almost a 2-for-1 deal and I loved it! Usually I’m not a huge fan of (actually… I usually HATE) authors flipping back and forth so much from one couple to another, but Julie Ann Walker does a brilliant job with it in this book. I hope we’re set to get more from these BKI men!

What a great wrap up to this series! I love seeing everyone and finding out what they were doing. And I'm curious as to what will happen in the future because of the way the ending was left open.

As for Angel and Sonya, they had a lot to get past for them to work out. I dont know that I could have done it.

The side romance made me smile. I won't spoil it for you by saying who it is ;) just know it was perfect.

RIP-ROARING, POPPING JAW, SACRIFICES, LOVE THESE MEN AND WOMEN STARS!!!!!
I cannot say enough how I have loved this series. I love the men and women of Black Knights, Inc and it was an ABSOLUTE PLEASURE to be immersed in their works, from Ghost to Angel, these men and women have taken me on an adventure filled with suspense, action, secrets, betrayals and most importantly love. In this story we finally, finally find out who is Angel, really? So many guesses and hints and all it takes is knowing that his past love may be in trouble and he answers the call. I loved that Angel and Sonya were able to be reunited. I only had 2 hang ups, and the first one was , that they finally catch the bad guy and it was anticlimactic like Ace stated. The other thing was that I really, really, really, wanted Ace and Rusty to have their own book, at least a novella, however Ms.Walker did do an excellent job with these two in this story...*cue the violin*** it was sweet between them! It was awesome that all the past characters were present and we got a future outlook of all couples and their children and how they will move on, from now. I'm so sorry to see this series end, but maybe, just maybe...there might be a new group in town, Lol.
4.5 heartwrenching, lovely stars!!!!

I loved the ending to the series, and Angel's story. I'm glad that we got to see Angel's past and why he changed his face. I'm sad to see this series end, as it is one of my favorites, but it was a great and satisfying ending.

Built to Last is the series finale for Black Knights Inc. so it had a lot of expectations to live up to. And it did not disappoint! The chemistry between Angel and Sonya is scorching and it's such an interesting twist on a second chance romance. I liked finally getting to know the enigmatic Angel. And I found Sonya quite entertaining with her cursing in foreign languages. I wished she were a little more cop-like in some situations, especially given her job at Interpol, but she explains her skill set well.

Ace and Rusty's relationship finally gets addressed as well. Though I might have liked to see them get their own book, it was a satisfying end. We also got to see some of the characters that haven't been around much in recent books, mostly Ghost and Rock. There's also some Boss and Becky, who are always fun. The rest of the team gets at least a mention since not only this their last book, it's also their last mission before the team disbands. (Though I'm seeing some spin off possibilities.)

I haven't always loved the villain POVs in this series, but the Spider was well done. I actually would have liked more of him since we've been building up to him over the last few books. But I did love the action scenes, though they're not as flashy as some of the other books have been.

I thoroughly enjoyed Built to Last. I feel like it's a satisfying end to the series, though I'd certainly be happy to spend more time in the Black Knights world.

I have loved the Black Knights, Inc series from the very beginning. As the twelfth book publishes, it’s rather sad to know that my time with these amazing men and women is coming to a close.

I also find that I really don’t want to say too much about Built to Last, the final story in this series that has kept me on the edge of my seat for a very long time. Why? Because if you’ve followed the series then you need to experience Angel and Sonya’s finding each other again, dealing with their past and fighting the most evil criminal ever all for yourself. And if you’re starting the series here… well, you need to go back to Hell On Wheels and follow through the entire series because the threads woven throughout all the stories shouldn’t be missed. I don’t mean that to sound harsh, but a series built on intrigue, black-ops, secrets, and hidden agendas really needs to be read from the start, coming in on the last book won’t give you the entire story.

Angel and Sonya have both been through hell – there is no other way to explain it. Both have moved on but without all the information they really needed. Today, Angel is quite different from the man who Sonya loved, and Angel has never stopped loving this woman in spite of almost desperately trying with a woman in every damn port. Watching them come together, learn each other’s secrets and take down a madman while celebrating their love for each other was a roller coaster ride that I completely loved. If this series had to end, then Built to Last took it out with fireworks. I can’t wait to see what Julie Ann Walker has in store for us next. If you love Romantic Suspense, really intricate story-lines, intriguing believable characters, and one heck of a story then you’d enjoy the Black Knights, Inc series. I simply don’t believe you can dive in at the end or the middle and get the full effect or enjoyment of this series. But that’s my own opinion, that choice is up to you.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The BKI series has been amazing. I have loved the journey that Julie Ann Walker has taken her readers on and she has not disappointed with her last book of the series. Angel has been the mysterious one from the beginning who you have always wanted to know about. You not only get a glimpse inside of his world, but you find what helped shaped him as a person and who influenced him. And when he and Sonya are together, the sparks will fly. If you have loved the BKI series you won’t want to miss this book.

I love a book with the combination of romance meets black-ops, action and suspense and Julie Ann knows how to deliver. This is latest book in the Black Knights Inc and although it can be read as a standalone, it is much better to have the back story of the support characters and what lead to this moment in Angel's story.
Angel and Sonya have a history where in his youthful arrogance of thinking he knew best, he made a decision for the both of them that kept them apart. Now his secrets are being exposed, he will have to work to have a future with her. I for one am glad that Angel and Sonya have their chance at a relationship built to last.
This story reveals who the elusive Spider is and why he has targeted the Black Knights.

In this pulse-pounding closing installment of the Black Knights Inc. (BKI) series, we see Angel finally land his HEA. Though he's had plastic surgery and a name change, Angel has loved Sonya for ten years. He's changed so much, both physically and vocally (the thought of altering someone's vocal cords makes me cringe), that she doesn't recognize him. Of course, she also thinks her lover from 10 years ago (Angel-then named Mark) is dead. Angel doesn't tell her his secrets to keep her safe but Sonya immediately begins to associate Mark and Angel in her mind due to the similarities.

Guys, my heart could not take it. These two and their long-lost-love almost killed me! Angel and Sonya are just so meant to be together and I did not think Angel's story would move me like it did. Who knew Angel was so sentimental and just a marshmallow for his gal!?!

Ok, on another note: this book also gives us some prime Ace and Rusty time. Woohoo! Let's just say that their sexual chemistry is off the charts.

I'm sad to see this series come to a close, really I am. This is the series that got me into romantic suspense and almost each and every book in the series will be a true reread for me. However, in the end Walker gave readers a BKI reunion for the books.

Even if you haven’t kept up with this series, this is a must-read for any romantic suspense fan.

Fast-paced and action-packed, this book was a perfect ending to a wonderful series.

Angel and Sonya were perfect together. This is not quite a second chance romance since Sonya doesn’t realize that Angel is really the former love of her life who she thought died 10 years ago, but this one still packs all the emotional twists and turns you would expect as these two find themselves unable to stay away from each other as they try to stay alive and out of the hands of the enemy. And although I know why Angel had to keep his identity a secret, watching Sonya see little things of her lost love in Angel and then doubting herself was tough.

As part of the story we get to spend time with other members of the BKI team. From the constant snark to the total commitment the team has to each mission and to each other, it’s hard not to love this group. And Ace and Rusty’s story was one of my favorite parts of the book. Listening to them constantly sniping at one another, watching Rusty sacrifice himself, and then getting to see these two get their HEA was so satisfying. And I absolutely loved Rusty’s mother!

With so many hidden and double identities, the threat of nuclear destruction, and some secrets that were well played, this book was an intense read that really had you feeling like you were in the middle of this mission. The emotion was raw at times, the pages were filled with tension, and the plot had a grit to it that had me wanting to read faster…but at the same time slow down since this is the last book in the series.

I have really enjoyed this series and am sad to see it come to an end. Although this one can be read as a standalone, I would recommend starting at the beginning – this series is filled with great characters who all have their own wonderful story, and some things will make more sense having read the other books. As for the series, story lines were wrapped up nicely and the stage has been set for the possibility of spin-offs and new characters – so bring it on!

I highly recommend this one – and the entire series!
