This is a captivating book that tells us about Barbara's journey. She found her way to pastoring a small church, which had its up's and down's. It was a joy to be able to read her book, and hear about her experiences and lessons she learned. I loved the way this book was written. It was a hard book to put down.

This book gives a very realistic look into the world of pastors. This is a true story with the names changed to protect people's privacy. That allows the author to show us some of the challenges that come with ministering to a congregation that is declining and is unwilling to change.

While we do get to see some of the joy of working with this particular congregation, most of the book deals with the fact that they just don't seem to have the energy or motivation to implement ideas the pastor presents to them to promote growth. I've never been a pastor, but I have been in congregations where this has been the prevailing attitude, and I know first hand how frustrating it can become.

I was super happy to read this book. Most people jokingly say that pastors only work one hour a week. They work a 24 hour/day job with no days off, and this author did as well. Sorry to say that churches are in this sad state as well, no matter where in the US. Good read!
Thanks to author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free,it had no bearing on the rating i gave it.
