I had such a good time with Never Deceive a Viscount. Young crime fighter, Lily, does try to steal the show from Emma and Simon but it’s the adults that provide a lovely, quirky romance that any Regency Romance reader would enjoy.

Through a major misunderstanding of what she witnessed, Lily is convinced that their next door neighbor is a murderer and sets out to prove it. When her older sister, Emma, goes after Lily as she does some breaking and entering they both land in a bit of an embarrassing situation. Now, unknown to Emma an infamous lord will move in as a mere Mr. and engage her talents as a portrait artist, all the while searching for clues to the identity of the thief who stole an important signet ring on that fateful night.

What we discover are two unlikely people falling in love, and a young lady convinced of a murder. Simon and Emma work well as a couple who are trying their best to not fall. Each has their reasons to be leery of the other and it’s an enjoyable time watching them get beyond their issues and letting what happens naturally… just happen. There are a few twists, and this story certainly kept me on my toes. If you love a good romp then Never Deceive a Viscount should be on your reading list. I’m enjoying this series and look forward to the next one.

Never Deceive a Viscount by Renee Ann Miller is book Two in the Infamous Lords series. This is the story of Emma Trafford and Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler. I have read the previous book but feel this can be a standalone book.
Emma is the older sister taking care of her younger sister while their brother is away at school. Emma is a painter and that is how she makes extra money. Lily the younger sister likes mystery/drama type books which leads her mind to think something is going on next door. When Lily sneaks into Simon's house to look into what is going on...Emma goes after her. Looking to distract Simon she kisses him and then runs.
Now Simon is looking for her and he thinks she took his ring. But the more times he spends with her trying to find out the truth the more he wants her.
Loved their story...Lily was so funny.

London - 1877

Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler, has an actress for a mistress who is totally involved in her acting. She wants them to act out various characters during their get togethers.

Lily and her older sister, Emma Trafford live across the street from the actress and Lily, who is addicted to mystery novels, has been spying on them using her opera glasses. Emma has chastised Lily about spying but she continues to do so behind Emma’s back. One night, Lily watches them make love and thinks that the man has killed the woman, so Lily goes over to investigate. Emma follows her to bring her home only to be caught by Simon in the dark but Emma manages to elude him and goes home. Then Lily shows Emma a nice signet ring that she found at the house.

Simon is furious to think someone broke into his home and stole his ring. So, he and his manservants move into his mistress’s home and he goes by the name Simon Radcliffe to try and entrap the thief.

Simon meets Emma at a neighborhood get-together and discovers that she is a talented portrait artist. He also suspects she might be the woman thief. So, he approaches her to paint his portrait. Their times together spark an attraction but Emma is terrified that he will find that she and Lily still have his ring. How can she get it back to him without confessing what originally happened?

Oh dear. This book just went on and on and didn’t offer much of an enjoyable plot. Both Simon and Emma have seen heartache in their past, but who hasn’t? I liked Simon a bit better than Emma because she always appears to be a scared rabbit. On a positive note, there are some humorous scenes with Simon’s elderly man servants and Emma’s housekeeper.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series and this one was equally entertaining. The characters were very likeable. Emma had a difficult life providing and caring for her brother and sister. She does this by using her skill as an artist. Her sister, Lily is a very likeable scamp, some of the things she says are priceless. Simon, Viscount Adler has his problems, although not financial ones. Simon and Emma are attracted to each other but they both have secrets that could hinder their relationship. There are a number of interesting secondary characters amongst the servants. I’m looking forward to the next in the series concerning one of Simon’s friends. I did preorder my own copy because I enjoyed the first in the series so much

I had a massive fit of the giggles during the opening scenes of this Victorian-era romance. The heroine Emma’s younger sister, Lily, is addicted to a series of penny dreadful novels and convinced she is constantly on the verge of stumbling upon a major crime. Invading the house across the street to investigate the ‘murder’ Lily thinks she witnessed, she manages to accidentally involve herself and our poor heroine in an actual crime when they end up knocking out a gentleman and Lily steals his signet ring.

Emma spends a considerable part of the book trying to react to Lily’s tendency to drag her into trouble, and managed to thoroughly endear herself to me at the same time. I thought she was adorable with her fiercely protective nature, and not surprised in the least that Simon fell for her. Of course, there are lots of shenanigans, not least when Simon’s former mistress (who Lily thought she saw Simon murder - you can probably guess what they were up to) arrives back in the picture at a very delicate moment.

This was a light, charming, thoroughly enjoyable read. Despite the humour, there was plenty of deep character building for the two leads and I finished the book very much believing they were an excellent match for each other. Fun and a bit different from the run of the mill historical, I’m giving this one five stars.

Clearly, Emma Trafford’s new neighbour is a lady killer but is the scoundrel with the scar capable of murder? Emma can barely contain her precocious younger sister, Lily the child swears she spied their neighbour engaged in foul play in his Bloomsbury love nest. But when Lily goes too far searching for “evidence,” Emma must save the imp by distracting Simon with an all-consuming kiss rife with danger and desire. Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler doesn’t know which is more infuriating: that an anonymous intruder set his soul on fire and left a deep longing in her wake or that during their encounter his signet ring, a token of his painful past, went missing. With the memory of a faint scent of paint spirits and the knowledge that his neighbour Emma is a portraitist, Simon sets out to capture his thief .
This is the second book in the series but could stand very well as a standalone, however it was good to catch up with Hayden & Sophia. Simon decides to ‘go by' the name of Simon Radcliffe whilst in Bloomsbury as he is somewhat notorious. I really enjoyed this feel good book, I was immediately drawn in with Lily’s assumption that Simon was murdering his mistress. The characters were very well fleshed & I liked both Simon & Emma but it was the secondary characters that added the icing on the cake. Lily was just delightful, then there were Baines & Harris Simon’s servants who were hilarious & finally Mrs Flynn. The story flowed really well & the pages flew over. There were misunderstandings & secrets which all added to this enchanting engrossing read.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

This book was an excellent second installment in Miller's Infamous Lords series. After meeting Lord Simon Adler in "Never Dare A Wicked Lord" it was enlightening to get to know the reasons behind his behavior and reputation and to watch him grow as he develops his relationship with Emma. Simon and Emma meet due to the reckless curiosity of Emma's younger sister but their meeting involves Simon being kneed in the groin and smashed over the head with a vase, leading Simon to search for the culprits of his injuries. One of the things that I liked the best is how believable the secrets that Simon and Emma kept were and how they both had to overcome their past fears and pride in order to embrace their relationship. Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!

My Thoughts:

This is the second book in the series by a new author on the scene.
I read her debut novel and was very impressed.
I was certain that it was just a fluke and that it couldn't possibly happen again with a new author but it did!
Not only did she continue to amaze me but her second book is a can't put down read.
Lily is an inquisitive and precocious younger sister to our heroine.
She is certain that she saw their neighbor commit murder and will go far to prove she is right.
Simon is unaware of the snoopy young lady who lives across the way. When Lily breaks into his home to gather evidence against him he is certain that his intruders are up to no good.
After following Lily to their neighbors home and indulging in a kiss with the stranger an attraction blooms between Emma and Simon.
Simon is out to prove his thief and intruder is Emma but he finds himself drawn to her.
How will this unwanted but mutual attraction play out?
I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 4of5 flames.
Their frequently interrupted intimacy is very disconcerting to our couple but the description is both humorous and sexy.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Never Deceive a Viscount entertains you with little imp Lily thinking their new neighbor has murdered his ‘wife’ when she sees them having sex through their bedroom window. Lily reads murder mysteries or penny dreadfuls to fuel her imagination. She decides to investigate the murderer across the street causing her sister, our sweet heroine, Emma, to follow and get her to leave the neighbor’s house. This causes all sorts of problems when Simon, Viscount Adler, discovers Emma.

This poor hero is quite handsome and described as very well built. He just knows Emma is the person who broke into his mistress’s house, her accomplice hit him over the head, and stole his signet ring. Thus, begins his elaborate deception to move into his mistress’s house. Simon has already sent his mistress out of the country to get rid of her, which makes Lily think he has killed her and disposed of the body.

The whole beginning set up to the story is far-fetched and too hilarious for words. Simon is going to prove Emma and a lover broke into the house. He is determined to wait her out with intimidation tactics. He even charges her with painting his portrait so he can be closer to her to find evidence of her thievery and deception. He doesn’t stand a chance. Simon begins to fall in love with Emma quickly and deeply.

Secondary characters, Simon’s valet and butler, Baines and Harris, are just as fun as little Lily. The two septuagenarians helped raise Simon and never let him forget it. The descriptions of the mistress’s house are just as entertaining as if another human character in the book.

Never Deceive is the second Renee Ann Miller and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Second in the series, but it can be read as a stand alone book. I am looking forward to the third.

Lily is a child with a vivid imagination and she doesn’t obey her older sister, Emma, so all manner of hijinks ensues. Simon wants his signet ring back so he is following clues that lead him to Emma and Lily. Emma has his ring that Lily took, but doesn’t want Simon to know. Can she return it without his finding out?

A Viscount is falling for his portraitist and she for him. This is a fun and comfy book to curl up with.

Emma Trafford has had it up to here with her younger sibling, Lily's, antics. Seems Lily has been spying on the neighbor and claims that he has killed a lady friend. Emma knows Lily must surely be mistaken. She tells her to let it go, but Lily cannot leave well enough alone. When Lily breaks and enters next door, Emma must give chase. She never would have dreamt that she'd nearly be caught, nor could Emma have foreseen what Lily would do next.

Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler is enraged and a little intrigued by the intruder who he nearly captured breaking into his home. She delivered a sizzling kiss that he has not been able to scrub from his mind. Unfortunately, the little minx had an accomplice. While Simon and his mysterious lady were occupied, her accomplice bashed him over the head with a vase and made off with his signet ring. Simon wants revenge. He also wants to discover the identity of the lady who pulled one over on him. Simon will not stop until he finds her.

NEVER DECEIVE A VISCOUNT is a fun read. Simon, the hero, is believed by his neighbors to be a murderer, or at least one of them. Young Lily is an avid reader of penny dreadfuls. She does not have much knowledge of what goes on between men and women so when Lily sees acts going on next door, she assumes the worst of her neighbor. When Lily's sister, Emma, won't believe her, she decides to investigate herself. Before they know it, they are up to their necks in trouble as Simon is investigating his own case.

Simon suspects Emma early on. He knows she was involved in the theft of his ring, but how to prove it. When he discovers Emma paints, he decides to get closer to her by employing her to paint his portrait. Both Emma and Simon have no idea the adventure they are in for, especially with Emma's interfering siblings. I really enjoyed Simon and Emma's tale and cannot wait to read the next installment of author Renee Ann Miller's INFAMOUS LORDS series.

I received a free copy from for an honest review from netgalley. Never deceive a Viscount is a great story. With lying about who he is as well as a case of accidental theft this book is so much fun to read. I can't wait to read other books by this author.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley to read in exchange for a fair review. Never Deceive a Viscount is Renee Ann Miller’s second book. We met first Simon Marlton, the infamous Viscount Adler in her other book Never Dare A Wicked Earl and while this book can be read as a stand alone why would you deny yourself the treat that Renee Ann Miller’s books are. Emma Trafford is trying to raise her two siblings Michael and Lily after the death of her parents. She is struggling to keep Michael in school and a roof over their heads by working as a portraitist. Lily’s precocious imagination leads them into a knock out confrontation with Simon, which leads to him moving in across the street pretending to be Mr. Radcliffe in order to solve the mystery of his missing ring. I loved everything about this story ... the characters, the steam, the lemon tarts. I am so happy to have discovered Renee Ann Miller’s books and can’t wait for the next one. Quite steamy Publishing Date May 29, 2018 #NeverDeceiveAViscount #NetGalley

Do you like funny and heart-felt historical romances? Then this is a winner for you. There is a precarious younger sister who mistakes some bedroom shenanigans with murder. Which isn't really that far-fetched for a sheltered young teen who devours mystery novels. Her sister, instead of giving the birds and bees talk, tells her to let it go which puts into motion a late night escape in which our heroine gets caught. Luckily she escapes, but now the hunt is on for the "lady intruder". Mistaken identities, a doting gay servant couple, a plucky orphan, a teenage brother with a gambling problem, some excellent art, and true love fill this fast-paced plot. I read one other book by this author, which was good, but this one is better. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

‘Never deceive a viscount’ started with an entertaining dialogue between Lily and Emma Trafford. Lily spies Simon Radcliffe across from her building, in what she believes is a murder taking place. Emma does not have the heart to tell her that this is a romantic interlude between two adults. However, Lily’s vivid imagination sets in place, events that will cause no end of mayhem for the main two characters and their romance. However, the secrets that they try to keep from each other will also add to heartache.
This was such an entertaining read with two great characters. There is romance along with laughter, when Lily is involved. Simon’s valet and butler are also so endearing and their relationship with Simon, had me smiling throughout. I can’t wait to see a story involving Lily and hope that these secondary characters reappear again!

The heroine’s little sister just stole the show, and something else besides!

This was a light, and entertaining miscommunication-themed romance where the initial miscommunication was caused by a little girl’s criminal act. The hero and heroine have their own problems to work out, but eventually find their way to love, and don’t end up throwing Lily into jail.

The shine has not gone from Ms. Miller’s writing. I read her first book and loved it and this book is just as good. Ms. Miller’s voice is refreshing in today’s historical romance world. It was a fast read that I just kept saying “one more chapter”. Simon and Emma’s journey to their HEA was a bit difficult. I loved how Simon kept trying ensnare Emma but she knew his game and avoided his traps (think cat and mouse). The compassion that both of them had for others whether it be their family, friends or just a kid who needs a place to stay and work (loved Nick) really stood out in this story. I loved this book! Looking forward to the other Infamous Lords’ stories.

Emma Trafford is an aspiring painter who is raising her two younger siblings following the untimely deaths of their parents. Her sister, Lily, is a precocious child with a vivid imagination and an unhealthy obsession with mystery novels. When Lily believes she witnessed their new neighbor, Simon Radcliffe, murder his lover, Lilly breaks into Simon’s house to look for evidence. Emma follows Lily into their neighbor’s house, and as an unfortunate run-in with the man. Emma and Lily are able to escape without being recognized, leaving Simon determined to find the two people who he was convinced meant to rob him. Simon’s search leads him across the street to Emma’s house. Emma is determined to keep her secret; Simon is equally determined to keep his own secrets – his is the infamous and scandalous Lord Adler – while ferreting out the truth from Emma. Neither of them expected to fall in love in the process.

NEVER DECEIVE A VISCOUNT is a juicy romance novel featuring two very likeable main characters. Simon is a wounded hero who must overcome his strong distrust of women. Emma is an independent – albeit “ruined” – woman who is more determined to make a career for herself as a painter. Neither of them is interested in love or marriage, but that doesn’t stop fate from giving them a shove in that direction. The sexual tension between the two is great. And their romance takes places in a realistic, lifelike setting. This isn’t the type of romance that plays out between two characters during the Season. There aren’t any balls or society gatherings.

But Lily is, by far, my favorite character. The teenage girl adds some comic relief through her antics.

Fun characters abound in Miller's second book! The clever, funny writing is just as good as the first book, but I think Simon is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH hotter than Hayden. He's a damaged, scarred hero in need of rescuing and those are my favorite kind!

It's true that Lily came close to stealing the show, but I thought Emma was a strong enough character that she could handle a hilarious little sister-sidekick and still hold her own. Her dry, sarcastic asides were hilarious and their interactions are laugh-out loud funny.

LOVED the witty banter between Emma and Simon and the tension and sexy bits were smoking hot! I like how they got to know each other through her painting--I also like that she is not your usual society babe and there is more going on than the typical balls and dinners. Lily's obsession with early detective fiction makes for good comic relief and keeps you on your toes wondering what she is going to get up to next.

This book is a keeper and goes on my favorite shelf. I'm really loving this series and can't wait for the next book!

Simon and Emma are quite the pair. Both have their secrets but the attraction between the two of them is such that it kept me turning the pages until I had finished the whole book. Ms. Miller's secondary characters are as wonderfully written as Simon and Emma. This book made me feel a part of their story from the beginning. While this is the second book in the series, you can read it stand alone as well. I cannot wait for Ms. Miller's next book.
