I found the stories strange. Not the typical style that I would pick up to read. The writing was good and kept me reading to the last page.

A pretty decent collection of short stories but I felt that I had already read most of them before. I am not sure if they have been published previously in another collection or if they are just very, very, very similar to others I have read. Nothing outstanding here but an enjoyable read nonetheless.

Beyond the Gossamer Veil is a collection of short stories centered around ordinary people with encounters of the extraordinary kind, set in various time periods (post US Civil War, Victorian England, present day Middle East) and different genres - mystery, horror and thriller. Among my favorite tales:
"Memento Mori" - set in Victorian England, wherein a pair of policemen investigate a seemingly ordinary double murder that turns out to be something entirely unexpected
"The Delivery" - told though a hidden journal entry of a young courier entering an manor house on a routine delivery that crosses the boundaries of known science

Many of the short stories could expand into full length novels, as I wanted to learn more about the backstory (and aftermath) of the ethereal beings that may or may not be of this world.

This book was not quite what I expected. For some reason, I expected receiving some "real experience" with the paranormal; which wasn't that at all. I did enjoyed three short stories in this books; "Memento Mori","Ghost hunters" and "Uncommon Valor " that did made me cry; but the rest fell flat for me. It was either using some hard english I couldn't understand or I couldn't identify the paranormal aspect of the stories ..

This was a really good read! I enjoyed this collection of scary stories. I must say that my favorite was the last one. I will try other books by this author.

Good collection of short stories about life and death and the supernatural. They range from war stories with supernatural elements to tales of dark magic and horror, to ghost stories and hauntings. A couple stories were lighter and more introspective, while others were pulse-pounding thrill rides. And nothing like your unsuspecting victim who starts out in an everyday circumstance, only to find themselves on an express elevator to hell, figuratively speaking. Enjoyable read.

Do not read these in the dark... alone... with the light off...

If you love a good ghost story, then you have to check out this collection of stories. Each one is sure to send a shiver down your spine! If you are easily scared, then this book is one that you want to read in full daylight. I loved these stories! Each one has its own element for the supernatural, and each story is perfectly crafted for maximum jumps and gasps.

Settle down for some fun! It will be hard to pick your favorite story!

A collection of short stories: some are very good and some just so and so.
On the whole a fast and entertaining reading.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher

Well, it has an auspicious title and really good intentions. If only that were enough. Alas, this collection of short stories was just completely pedestrian. The author’s fondness for genre classics shows in language and atmosphere, which wasn’t a draw for me personally, I don’t really care for those, M.R. James too ages to get through, but aside from that the stories just really lacked excitement. The writing itself was decent, amateurish, but decent, but the plots didn’t really wow. The sort of thing you’d forget from one story to the next. No stand outs, nothing spectacular. And entirely too many tales relying on the…but they were really dead the entire time…ploy. This collection is the sort of thing one might encounter quite often sifting through Amazon kindle freebies looking for something scary, this would be slightly above the average for that selection. It’s nice to see the author making an effort to rely on psychological scares over the guts and gore and this was perfectly (and quickly) readable, but no stand outs, nothing special. In fact it’s already fading from memory. Thanks Netgalley.
