Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

he first few chapters did really intruiged me but after that I lost interest in the story more and more. Wasn't as thrilling or exciting has I had hoped. The whole bone keeper myth started out fun but after a while wasn't as thrilling. Might try some other books by Luca Veste anywho

Slow Thrillers are not my favorite. I also don't enjoy when characters make assumptions that a normal person wouldn't make. I don't understand how that happens, except in a world where a writer needs the character to move to the next step. I need more thoughtful events to take place or I don't believe them.

The plot line was great but the delivery fell short. There was not much in the way of character development and there was a lot of repeating about guilt and how it was affecting their lives. There were parts that were really good, but a good chunk of the middle lagged on a little. One of my irritations is when a leading role has virtually no notable characteristics on their own and only looks good compared to his incompetent or unattractive colleagues/friends/customers. At first, I tried to disregard it but then this grew so annoying, I began disliking the protagonist just because she acted so superior to the others. The investigation got bogged down halfway through the book and the ending was a disappointment.

The Bone Keeper was the perfect, creepy read that kept me up late at night. Luca Veste tells the story in alternating perspectives (past and present) and included a few twists along the way which kept me guessing. Definitely a creepy read that will stay with me for quite some time. I look forward tobreading more of Veste's books.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in return for an honest review.

The Bone Keeper by Luca Veste is a crime/horror novel revolving around a town's long maintained ghost story 'The Bone Keeper'.

I didnt' enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. I felt that the mixing of crime and horror didn't work well together and the book should have chosen to be one or the other.

This creepy sinister story opens with a bang. Would make a good Halloween read. Or summer or anytime. Luca always delivers and he did so here. Loved the whole story, characters, pace.

This one really had potential but didn't quite hit the mark for me. It never seemed clear how exactly Louise figured out early on what was going on. The pacing seemed ... slow, I guess, for a thriller, so the twist fell flat. By the time we got to it, I wasn't really invested. The characters didn't have much depth to them, and I never connected with any of them.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for a copy of this ARC.

I really enjoyed this one!
I shouldn't have waited so long to get to it. I felt like the beginning could have been trimmed down but once it picked up it really took off!

Louisa is a police officer and is on the biggest case of her career. A serial killer. She's worked hard to keep her past a secret because she has no family left. But her memories are wiped out. She starts having flashbacks and realizes she may be closer to this crime than she would like anyone to know.

I was hooked by all the characters. You can tell instantly that victim Caroline is hiding something. Once Louise starts to think she may know more than she let's on, it gets really interesting!

This book was...interesting. The past/present perspective was interesting, but I don't think the big reveal was worth all the confusion to figure out what was going on. This book was just very confusing in general for no real reason. I am all for a big reveal, but not at the expense of the story making sense and being logical. The characters were very one dimensional and unfortunately did not have a lot of depth.

Eh - Not sure why I didn't love this one. The plot sounded fantastic, and I really loved the first few chapters. It felt kind of slow for me, and the ending was uneventful for me. All that being said, I still did enjoy reading this, it was a quick read and I got through it in one go.

The Bone Keeper opens with four children entering a disused tunnel where the legendary 'Bone Keeper' is suppose to live. Only three come out the other side. We then move onto a stranded woman, found wandering the streets, singing a song about the Bone Killer, who she claims abducted her. It's DC Louise Henderson who is put in charge of getting to the bottom of the mystery and determine if The Bone Keeper is fact or fiction.
The constant flipping between timelines and characters was ultimately confusing, and made it difficult to follow the plot. I'm very picky when it comes to thrillers. I want something original, and The Bone Keeper didn't fulfil my expectations.

This was one creepy book!!! But loved it....love the creep factor! This book was a bit slow at times but very interesting story line and definitely kept me captivated till the very end.

The Bone Keeper has one of the creepiest openings that I’ve read in awhile. Keep me reading from the first page. I highly recommend if you enjoy crime fiction - there's a dash of horror and a bit of humor. This is my first book from Luca Veste, but it is not going to be the last.

Thanks Netgalley for this story.

What if the bogeyman that haunted you as a child was real?

20 years ago 4 kids go into the woods to hunt for The Bone Keeper. Only 3 return.
When a bleeding woman is found in the streets claiming to have escaped The Bone Keeper the police are sceptical. DC Louise Henderson isn’t so sure it’s just a myth though.

I have mixed emotions about this book. It is dark, creepy and twisted. It starts with a bang and sucks you in.

I found the middle a bit lacklustre though and the various POVs and time periods made it a bit confusing to keep up with. It was however all tied up in the end and made a bit more sense. Although, I still have some questions about why Lousie was so terrified of The Bone Keeper.

I found all of the characters a bit flat and I was not a fan of Louise. I did enjoy how the scenes were set though and you could really feel the fear and how eerie the woods were

That being said, I did really enjoy the creepy childhood bogeyman element of the story. It did make it a chilling read. I also was desperate to know who or what The Bone Keeper was and I thought the ending was pretty good. It wasn’t rushed and explained some of the previous chapters. All in all, it’s not my all time favourite book but I did enjoy it and would recommend giving it a read if you love a creepy plot.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review

The Bone Keeper by Luca Veste is a deliciously dark tale set in modern day United Kingdom. The Bone Keeper is a legend that has been around as long as anyone can remember. The story of a mysterious entity that lived in the dark woods surrounding pretty much every town all over the UK. Every disappearance is credited to the Bone Keeper. The proverbial boogie man, the legend of the Bone Keeper is spread around in the circles of children everywhere. It is; however, considered to be a myth.

When Caroline Rickard stumbles out of the woods in a delirious state, with mysterious wounds covering her body, she is singing the haunting song of The Bone Keeper, insisting that the legend is real. That the Bone Keeper really exists. The case lands on the desk detectives Henderson and Shipley. Shipley is a die hard Bone Keeper denier, but for Louise Henderson, a complicated past leads her to believe that the legend may not be a complete fabrication. The case of Caroline Rickard becomes much more complicated when another body is found in a similar area to where it is believed Caroline may have been held. The deeper the detectives dig the bigger the case gets as more and more bodies start to stack up. The case is soon thrown under the umbrella of the major crimes unit. Henderson and Shipley stay on the case, feeling committed to see the case they started to the end. The novel is a twisted tale that looks into the darkest parts of human nature. It is a dark and moody tale that keeps the reader in edge to the end. A fun read.
