'An enjoyable sports romance, but nothing spectacular'

This was a fun in between, quick romance read for me but not one that I'll easily remember when time passes by, you know? It wasn't a truly memorable story, just one of 'many'. Despite that, it was overall enjoyable and I really like this author's writing style. If you're into sports romance, this is definitely one I'd say to try out!

This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine. Heidi and Rob were well-written characters. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.

I could not wait to read this story and was not disappointed. This story had everything I enjoy while reading a sports romance. This was the first story I read by this author and know this will not be the last,

I was excited to read this book! I don’t read a lot of sport romance and I was looking forward to giving this one a chance. I liked the characters I thought they were well developed and I enjoyed the story. I did find it a little rushed but it was nothing I couldn’t get over. It’s a nice easy read and I recommend it!

I am a big fan of sports and romance. when I can get two for one, I love it. This story was cute. I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. One of the big things was Heidi. She seemed kind of whiney to me. She never really fought. I didn't really get into her until she stood up to Rob's BS with the publicity stunt. That was the big swing for me, however, that was almost at the end of the book. Rob was focused on his baseball career. He worked hard and did not allow for distraction. He was a jerk to Heidi and did not handle the situation with any finesse. I liked him better then. At least you saw his determination and grit. When they meet again, they both allowed others to manipulate and bully them. It all worked out in the end but boh characters were to "easy". The writing was good. There were some cute moments. I liked the story overall. I would read more.

Rob & Heidi have one amazing night together, but awkwardness spoils what could've been a relationship. Three years later, they meet again, but are hindered by a weird stalemate in which both their jobs are on the line. Compromise and some smart thinking could save the couple, but are outside forces stronger than their love?

Hitting It is a sports romance about an interracial couple that, surprisingly, has very little interracial drama. I found that to be quite refreshing and wonderfully non-tropey. I also found both main characters to be quite realistic and honest, both understanding that each other's job was important. My issues had to do with some of the "outside forces". Even at the end of the book, I was no closer to figuring out what their real deal was. Also, the romance between Rob & Heidi - while a bit sweet (and very steamy!) - didn't give me the "aww" feeling, although everything worked out in the end.

I still enjoyed the book, though, and look forward to reading more in this series.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book, which I received via NetGalley.

A sweet yet steamy second chance, new adult, romance. Sports, careers, spring break and more all rolled into this story of two people coming back together for a second chance. Hitting It is a quick read that hits all the bases!

This was a really good sports romance and a great start to the series. Rob and Heidi had one night together while on spring break and now have not seen each other for three years. Now she needs to interview him to keep her job. I liked these two but sometimes the chemistry was a little lacking between them but other than that it had a good plot and I enjoyed the book.

Rob met Heidi one night on Spring Break. Just one look and he knew the attraction he felt could not be denied. They shared a moment that would mean a lot more since they connected with one another so quickly. He is having difficulty with his new found fame and she is a journalist that asks though provoking questions. Reuniting with him once again quickly turns into something more and they complete each other in ways they couldn’t have possibly imagined. Great chemistry between the characters and feeling the pull of something more that happens once in a lifetime.

Kathy writes great sports romances and Hitting It is a great example of this! The characters that Kathy writes are great to read; they are so well thought out with great details. This is especially seen in the different POVs in each chapter. The plot was faced paced and a joy to read.

Rob Lee is just a good old Nebraska boy who had an amazing spring break fling with Heidi Wong in college. Three years later he is a rookie for an MLB team and she is a reporter who needs an exclusive with him to keep her job. Rob is trying to show Heidi that he more than just an baseball player and is pulling out all the stops to make her his. Life is never easy and being an adult is even harder.

Heidi Wong will do anything to keep her job, even if it means writing an exclusive on a man she claims she knows better than she does. Meeting Bobcats heavy hitter Rob Lee before he made it to the Major Leagues was a dream come true until he broke her heart by wanting to go their separate ways without exchanging phone numbers. Determined to get her interview, Heidi finds she has a challenge on her hands, especially since Rob isn't allowed to talk to the press. Will Heidi get her way or will Rob break her heart all over again?

What an interesting and entertaining read Ms. Lyons has delivered in this first book of her Locker Room Diaries where the main characters were riveting due to their back stories; the compelling dialogue drew me in from the beginning and had me enjoying how this story started, as Heidi does something no one ever expected of her. Really, she's brave and shows she isn't afraid to take a chance.

With the main characters, I loved their growing relationship, as the hero knows he shouldn't get involved with the heroine, and yet, he can't seem to resist. Will he be able to win Heidi over? Moreover, the hero is confident, determined and I liked how far he was willing to go to win the heroine over, even though his options seemed impossible because if he got caught he would face consequences. While the heroine, she's resilient and I liked how determined she was to get her story. No way could she give up, especially not when she's worked so hard to get to where she is. Then again, it's no wonder she works so hard because she's proving to her parents that she doesn't need to follow the path they wanted her to in order for them to be proud of her.

Overall, Ms. Lyons has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance wonderful and had me loving the hero's determination to show the heroine that they could have something great, if she's willing to trust him; and the ending had me loving how these two make up after their relationship goes awry. Certainly, the hero was willing to risk everything to be with her. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely because the heroine hit it out of the ballpark in getting everything she wanted. I would recommend Hitting It by Kathy Lyons, if you enjoy second chance romances, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Naima Simone, Amy Andrews, Kate Meader and Lauren Hawkeye.

When I went to a bookish conference in April I was finally able to pull together all the random bits of romance knowledge loose in my mind and realize that Kathy Lyons and Jade Lee are the same person. How did I not know this!?! I’ve loved Lee’s historical romances for years so I nabbed this first-in-a-series contemporary romance by Lyons as soon as it became available earlier this month. In Hitting It the sensible heroine, Heidi, meets an up-and-coming baseball player, Rob, during a spring break trip to Florida. The two college students take to each other immediately but then go their separate ways after a very short liaison. If you like uber sexy, new adult, or sports romances this one should not be missed.

Spring break leads Heidi Wong into a quick fling with Rob Lee. She never forgot hm so when it comes time to make it big as a sports journalist sh searches him out. The problem is he is not allowed to be interviewed by any journalists and the chemistry between them is out of control.
She gets her hands dirty to get the story and finds out things are not what they seem in his life. While he is trying to keep it together n the field.
To me the story had many places where it lagged. It didn't flow for me in a way to hold my attention.

Loved it. The characters were charming. Even the a bit crazy best friend that sets the stage for the whole brief encounter meeting on
Spring Break.
Heidi and Rob and their friends are all in college and off for a few
days of fun in the sun.
When Heidi is cajoled into entering a wet t-shirt contest she is
spotted by Rob and the rest is almost history!
When Rob asks Heidi out her best friend Sam that caused all the trouble in the first place makes Rob show her his i.d. so she
could take a photo. Loved the scene.
Rob and Heidi quickly become interested in each other and
end up in Heidi's hotel room.
Doors are left open for the reader. Mama would hate it but
the jazzy grandma would have enjoyed it!
Yes there are several love scenes.
But the encounter is brief when everyone has to return to school and real life.

3 years later Rob has met his goal and made it to the major league.
Heidi is struggling with her goal of becoming a reporter and ends up getting layed off. Not before she manages to talk her boss into letting her interview Rob.

Which she finds out is easier said than done. Oh Rob is all for
it in fact he couldn't be happier. As soon as the two meet the
sizzle erupts and the smoldering sparks are set a blaze.

A little bit of drama must happen before the two can actually end up with a happily every after.

The ball club won't allow the interview. The owners daughter has her sites set on Rob.

Just enough outside interference to keep the reader cheering for Rob and Heidi.

I loved Hitting it and I look forward to reading much more from
Kathy Lyons.

I received a complimentary copy.

This is one of those books you could read in an afternoon and absolutely love it from start to finish. The love between the characters will put a smile on your face, how they get there will have you laughing and when they finally get their HEA it will make you sign. Their is plenty of action, romance and sports to make this one of the best sports romance books I’ve had the pleasure of reading, one of the best I’ve read in awhile. Author has written such a brilliant sports romance that it will have book lovers out there coming back for more, I will be. I would absolutely recommend this book to all book lovers out there

2 Stars!

Being a fan of sports romance, I was excited to request this ARC.
Unfortunately this story just didn't do it for me.

Heidi and Rob meet at wet t-shirt contest while on spring break in Florida. They hook up, have a great time and Rob basically splits right after due to important game he has coming up. Rob is dedicated to his baseball career and decides he doesn't have room for anything (or anyone else)

Fast forward, three years later.
Heidi is in a bit of a pickle - land an interview with this superstar baseball player (who she's effectively been cyberstalking for years) or lose her job completely and fail to pay rent.
So our to characters meet again. "Sparks fly" yada yada yada.
I didn't feel it the second time either.

The characters were one dimensional. The subject of conflict was just scratch your head- huh? And the most important thing in a romance was just glossed over several times throughout the novel.
'We talked for hours', 'We laughed at each other's jokes', 'We bonded' (Just for clarification those are not direct quotes but similar phrases were used)

Anyway, I think if some clever dialogue between the characters was added it would've made this novel so much more better.
The love scenes were okay, but again, could've had more impact had a true bond been established between the characters.

Hitting it was a fast read. If you like sports romance with little angst, you might enjoy this novel.
It just sadly just did not work for me.

I can't say that I liked this one very much. I love sports romances, but the writing fell flat for me. Rob and Heidi meet on spring break, he falls instantly in lust, and they have sex within a couple of hours of knowing each other. Spring forward. Rob is a major star, and Heidi is a journalist who needs to write a story on him for her job. They then proceed to have sex after no contact for 3 years. Yeah, not really doing it for me. They have a sexual relationship, but I can't say that I buy them as an actual couple. There just isn't enough substance for me to believe it. This was a first for me from this author, but I would be willing to give her another read.
